Chapter 6: The Cage
The next day, Lily took her small notebook and asked Aiden questions about whether John had ever borrowed a dictionary from him, and if she thought John was acting strangely.
I got a yes and there reply.
The former Lily was confirmed in the diary, so Lily hurriedly asked the latter, and Aiden felt that John was acting strangely.
Aiden replied that John often ran upstairs and downstairs, and often lay on his stomach and didn't know what to see.
Lily immediately remembered John's description in his diary that he had seen strange golden square words rise from the ground and fly high into the sky.
Finally, Lily, who confirmed that there was no more information, also borrowed the dictionary from Aiden, and got up and went to the gym in the corner of the third floor to find Camille.
She had to make sure with Camille that there was anything wrong with the "sifting tour".
Before arriving at the gym, Lily unexpectedly saw Camille, who seemed to be doing strength training with two dumbbells.
Camille has neat short blonde hair and an orphanage-style exercise suit, but the strength training of dumbbells makes her hold up the exercise suit on her body, and some of her exposed arms are also muscular.
Lily, who looked at this, couldn't help but touch her forearm...... Well, slender but stretchy, huh......
Shaking her head, Lily knocked on the ajar door of the gym and successfully got Camille's attention.
"Sister Lily, good morning, why did you come to the gym?" Camille asked, a little happily and a little confused.
Happy because she is usually the only one in this gym, and I am also confused because she is usually the only one in this gym.
"That's right." Lily glanced at Camille's "pectoral muscles" and explained her intentions, and showed Camille her copy of the list of the "screening patrol" team on August 29.
"So, why did you take Bana's place on that 'screening tour' that day?" Lily asked directly.
"Bana...... Oh, I remember, Bana had a high fever that day and couldn't participate in the 'screening patrol', but John said that the 'screening patrol' that day was going to a sports center in the south to carry some things back, and it would take a lot of strength, so he finally called me in. ”
Camille only thought about it for a second or two, and then remembered why.
"That'...... Did anything strange happen to you that day? Also, maybe it's a little strange for me to ask, did you think there was anything strange about John that day? ”
Lily pondered her words and asked Camille.
"Strange things......" Camille thought for a few seconds about Lily's question, and said word by word:
"I don't know if it's a strange thing, but John didn't go to the sports center in the south that day, but instead took us all the way to Dunlun's Eye." Camille turned to a gym equipment and took his water glass, returned to Lily, took a sip of water, and continued:
"You know, I don't think much about it, and I thought it was strange when John suddenly changed his destination, but I didn't think much of it, and the rest of the group didn't say anything, so I just thought it was a regular occurrence."
With that, Camille filled the lid of the cup and handed it to Lily.
Lily subconsciously took it, took a sip, and then coughed twice, it turned out that Camille's water was salty, and it seemed that salt had been added.
Returning the lid to Camille, Lily coughed again, and then continued:
"Then did you think John was a little abnormal that day?"
"Perverse...... Is it?" Camille was a little confused.
"Like, suddenly breaking away from the group and going alone, or trying to cover up or something?" Lily combined John's diary with her own questions.
"I'm sorry, Lily, but I don't remember anything that strikes John as something out of the ordinary." Camille just shook her head.
Lily was a little disappointed to get such an answer, but she still got a little useful information-
John will change the target area, and everyone in the "Sift Patrol" team is used to it.
Lily thought for a moment, motioned for Camille to sit first, found a place to sit down, and asked about some details of the time she and John went to the Dunlun Eye, and finally got the information that the Dunlun Eye had been turning on its own because people had left the fog, and the structure of the support point seemed to be starting to loosen, and it might collapse in another 8 or 9 years.
After thanking Camille, Lily went to the attic on the 5th floor of the orphanage alone, which she liked very much, and it was the quietest part of the orphanage during the day.
Sitting down slowly, Lily reached out and hugged her knees, her chin resting between the knees of her legs, and watched in silence through the attic window at the outside of the orphanage.
The water-like mist surged slowly but with life, and although it was silent, no one knew what was hidden inside, and why it was connected to the Arabic numerals 2 and 4 of the earth.
"[Two Points of Fog]....... Hm. Lily repeated the name of the fog outside in a somewhat awkward pronunciation.
Ten years ago, on February 4th, humanity had completely lost the right to soar in the sky, and the fog was like a cage that trapped all humans in this cage, unable to leave.
Human science and technology have also been greatly restricted, all communication-related equipment has lost its function and has become a pile of broken copper and iron, and all equipment that can observe the microscopic world of atoms and above has also lost its observation accuracy.
I heard that there is also a writer surnamed Liu in Xia Guo who wrote a science fiction novel called "The Four Body Problem", which cleverly describes the theory of "technology lock", so that even if the book is not spread by means of the Internet, it is still translated into multiple versions in many countries and is a hot seller.
Now, John has suddenly disappeared, and Lily herself is about to face the unknown horrors of the bar mitzvah.
She actually wanted to find someone to hug and cry, but she couldn't think of anyone who could let her be coquettish like this, if only Cha Tang's mother was still in the orphanage......
"It would be nice if Cha Sugar's mother was still there....... Right? ”
Suddenly, a male voice came from the spiral staircase leading to the attic.
Lily was taken aback, but then she reacted, a little ashamed and a little annoyed:
"Ande, at this point in time, why didn't you come to the attic when you didn't go to the kitchen to help?"
The person who came was Ander, the closest child to Lily in the orphanage, except for John Hue Aiden, and she almost wanted Ander to be her own brother.
Ander didn't rush to answer, just hunched slightly and sat down in front of Lily with his hands behind his back.
"Rub it!!" Ander jerked his hand out from behind his back and handed it to Lily.
I saw a small turtle-like thing made up of various parts in Ander's hand, and then I saw Ander twist the small key on the side of the "turtle" a few times, and the "turtle" moved its body in Ander's hand.
"Sister, happy birthday." Ander smiled and put the little thing in his hand into Lily's hand.
