Chapter 29: Faith
There were probably more than 800,000 newborn human beings, which is much more than in later mythology.
But considering that the area of Kaos in this world is much larger, and the area around the Mediterranean Sea is probably an oversized island, there are not many of them.
As the god-king, Kronos and the gods who dwelt on the sacred mountain received the most share. They returned to Odils with 300,000 humans, including the original human king.
The Lord of the Outer Seas received 150,000 men, and Pontus and Uria received 100,000 each. The two sea gods brought humans to the island, which were transformed by the falling celestial bodies and shattered continents that had fallen during the battle between the Father and the gods. And the gods of the mountains, together with the god-kings, brought humans back to their birthplace.
Of the remaining 200,000 people, Gaia left 100,000 around his dwelling, and the rest was divided among the true gods. Some followed the god of light to the underworld, while others were taken by the god of celestial bodies to a place on the western edge of the continent.
It was the closest place to heaven and earth since the First Age, and Koos had his two daughters take care of the humans on his behalf.
Before leaving, each of the gods involved in the creation of man left their image in the Oracle of Delphi. In the dark, under the influence of the power of the gods, the oracle has also become extraordinary.
The 100,000 human beings who follow Mother Earth live in the Great Plains around the temple. They built houses in the likeness of the oracle and prayed to the gods for food to make a living. So the plants that humans can eat grow naturally around them, and for every time they pick one, one will grow, and their vines will never wither.
Newborn humans are grateful. They had nothing else to do but eat and rest, so they worshipped the heavens and the earth, the sun and the moon, and the gods.
At the behest of the gods, temples were built. The first generation of golden humans were naturally strong, with amazing stamina, and excellent learning ability. Humans who were taken away by different gods often took different gods as their main objects of worship, and they built temples in different styles according to their preferences in serving the gods.
In the process, perhaps due to the union of soul and body, coupled with devout worship, a mysterious power was born.
The gods were aware of it, and they may not have noticed it, because they didn't care about it. Perhaps it was too deliberate in its creation, and the human beings of the Golden Age only had positive and beautiful feelings, and on this basis, the birth of those mysterious forces also seemed very weak.
This weak power may still have some effect on the regional gods. But every one of the gods involved in the creation of man is a true God, and they obviously don't care about this insignificant existence.
Ryan is not surprised by this, at this time, the belief of human beings is not strong, because spiritual life is like this. Even because they don't have a body, they bring even less faith to Ryan.
"Perhaps only a life that has both wisdom and body, and has not been modified in thought, can give birth to a large number of faiths."
"Zeus in later generations was even able to break the upper limit of the priesthood with this, and make the human priesthood equal to the natural priesthood. Even what comes from faith is necessarily limited by faith, but that's terrible enough. ”
With some emotion, Ryan glanced at the origin of [wine] in the spirit world.
Weak. Even if the gods are full of praise for this, the so-called 'Dionysus' can only become the true god's gatekeeper with weak divine power.
In comparison, the god of wine in later generations even sat in the position of the twelve main gods of Olympus. As long as there is a steady stream of faith, Dionysus is a powerful god for a day.
In this regard, Ryan only has some speculation, but given that there are still few beliefs, he is not very sure.
But what he can be sure of is that, as the master of spirituality, Kaos was the first to come into contact with the existence of faith, and even if he prevented the generation of faith at most, he could not take the faith that pointed to others as his own.
It follows that faith may indeed be spiritual, but it is by no means derived from pure spirituality.
And Lane vaguely observed that the acquisition of faith did not seem to depend entirely on so-called 'devout worship'. In other words, the faith gained from mere prayer may be a small part of the whole, and it may fluctuate at any time according to the mood of mortal things.
After all, even as the creator of spiritual life, there are only a few spirits who can truly be called devout believers in Lane. Even the spiritual beings who were born later, those who had never seen Lane's existence, saw him more as a symbolic being.
They respectfully call him the 'Great Ancient Spiritual Will' and consider him to be the world itself without a human mind. In contrast, spiritual beings often worship the angels of the spiritual realm who travel between different planes.
"But even so, Christopher still doesn't have as much faith as I do."
"Sure enough, compared to worship, leaving deep traces in the history of a race, one's own priesthood has extraordinary significance to that race, and even becomes a part of the cultural inheritance of civilization, and the faith brought by these acts is more meaningful than worship."
Just like the spiritual beings at this time, although they were born of not many beliefs, Ryan could still feel that compared to their unconscious sacrifice to themselves, the concept of being their creator and the creator of the spirit world brought significantly more faith than the former.
This time, Ryan also went to test this conjecture. After all, the experience gained from spiritual life alone may not be suitable for all situations.
But now, Ryan can be sure of what he thinks.
As the creator of humanity, Ryan can feel that even if no human knows what kind of god he is, there is still a belief that comes from the 'collective' of human beings.
He even had a faint feeling that even if the human race of this era completely disappeared in history, no living creature would survive. But as long as the 'traces' they have left on the world remain, then this kind of faith that does not come from worship will continue to flow.
It may be curtailed, but it will not disappear completely, this is the instinct that the priesthood of [history] has brought to Lane. Perhaps this kind of miraculous power from intelligent life has a special nature that is indelible with time, and even after years, it will still be immortal.
"It's amazing...... Civilization, faith, life, is really the most elusive thing in this world. ”
"But if you say that, it doesn't seem strange that Prometheus will end up."
"Prophets? Latecomers? ”
"It's obviously a great fool and a great wisdom."
Recalling the two brothers' births, his own Metis-like operation, Ryan saw more deeply the secrets hidden behind the myths of his past lives.
The Fire Thief and his brother, who were the first to come into contact with the Bronze Humans, may have vaguely discovered the mystery of their faith, but in the end, they made different choices.
Three generations of god-kings have also discovered this, perhaps Pandora's treasure box, the great flood of destruction, the essence is also Zeus is an attempt to test the essence of faith.
He discovered this power, which was still weak at the time, and tested it. The result was gratifying, and he further filled in the missing part of the emotion on the basis of the bronze human, and then understood that faith is more than prostration.
And this is likely to be the key magic weapon used by Zeus to fight against fate and infinitely delay the birth of the next god king.
Even the subsequent Dionysus, the Twelve Trials of Hercules, is just his further exploration of the power of faith.
"Is it civilized...... It's exactly what I originally intended. ”
Glancing at the third spiritual realm, which was still very empty at this time, and the third oracle slab that was empty, Ryan finally set his sights on the humans.
Following the connection between the spiritual master and the soul, he gently plucked the strings in his hand.
So Kaos's first dream was born.
