3 Chapter III
The shadow of the bat passed through the window, and Theodora's movement of the window suddenly stopped.
Fortunately, the shadow, like the legend of midnight, did not linger in front of his window for too long.
The black image is a ghostly ghost that lands lightly on Gotham's dripping beast, with a few smooth jumps, gradually disappearing out of Theodore's view.
"Whew-"
Theodore let out a long breath.
It was only then that he realized that he had just been so nervous that he didn't dare to breathe.
Bats, those damn bats, big bats all over the estate.
The memories of the past are like clouds of haze that linger, entwining around his mouth and nose in wisps, making the alveoli feel suffocated and depressed.
Just like the British think that going out and encountering a black dog will lead to bad luck.
Bumping into a bat before he could move was not a good sign for Theodore.
But he also has no habit of putting things off.
After confirming that there was no one around, Theodore finally jumped off the ledge.
Under his window was facing a lawn, and during the day Theodore had seen a few children bury nails in itβheh, Gotham orphans.
Theodore rubbed shoulders with the rusty nail tips and then climbed over the walls of the orphanage strewn with glass ballast.
Since Timothy was reluctant to take the initiative, he had to let others do what he was exposed.
However, just like the previous turn, the school added a physical examination program.
This time, Theodore is still dominated by Gou.
After all, no one would be stupid enough to report Bruce Wayne with their real name, right?
Theodore put his hands in his pockets, wore a black mask on his face, and pressed the cap down on his head.
He shuttled through the alleys of Gotham, and in just ten minutes, he had keenly avoided a gunshot. Bullet deals, two junkies, and three drunks throwing up in the back alleys of the bar.
Finally, he stopped at the mouth of an alley that smelled of garbage.
This is it.
Secluded, quiet and in a good location.
And there was only one person present.
In the alley stood a woman in thin clothes and heavy makeup.
Even children under the age of 10 can tell their occupation at a glance.
"Good evening, ma'am."
A slightly hoarse voice sounded behind Lina.
At the same time, a cool hard object silently pressed against her lower back.
Lina reflexively raised her hands.
The woman said quickly, "I haven't opened my business today." If you want money, I've hidden twenty dollars in the soles of my shoes. Take it and don't hurt me, okay? β
The robbers behind were suspiciously silent.
"Thank you for your generosity, ma'am, but I'm not here today for the money."
Judging by the position where the voice came from, he seemed to be a little short.
Lina quickly said, "So what do you want?" Get a shot for free? No problem. Right now? Is it here? I had an umbrella in the small bag on my waist to make sure I wouldn't look back the whole time. β
ββ¦β¦β
Here again the robbers fell into that long silence.
Short and short %@&**! Lina scolded in her heart: she speaks intermittently, like a soft water gun, and deserves to shoot * early* and * obstacles!
"Actually, ma'am, I'd like to ask you to do me a favor." The man behind him said unhurriedly.
Lina's heart tightened.
In Gotham, this kind of inexplicable door-to-door commission is much more dangerous than robbery and deception.
At the same time, a wide coat covered Lina's shoulders, and despite the cold, hard objects that covered the coat, it did not remove.
"The gratuity is in the pocket of the clothes, ma'am. Please put on this school uniform jacket, tie your hair that you don't usually wear, put on a mask, and go to the anonymous phone booth two blocks away to help make a phone call. β
"To whom?" Lina asked.
She tried to stay as calm as she could, trying not to let her voice tremble.
βGotham Child Protection Society. The other party replied.
ββ¦β¦β
There must have been a problem between my ears and the other person's brain. Lina thought.
"To whom?" She asked incredulously.
Person: "Gotham Children's Defense Society." β
ββ¦β¦β
Very good, it seems that the problem is the other party's brain.
Lina stood numbly in the alley, listening to the other party teach her how to make a report call "As a high school girl who has just started school, I accidentally found that Tim in the third class next door has been abused by her adoptive father".
It's so bizarre, everything that happened this night, it's so bizarre.
It was only now that Lina realized that the mysterious robber behind her, although he had lowered his voice to the greatest extent, still sounded immature with the childishness of a young man.
Also, he's slightly shorter, probably not because he's short in all aspects.
"You're Tim?"
"I'm not."
"Tim is your friend?"
"He's not."
"Well, that's your lover?"
"Not even moreβdon't ask, ma'am, I just happened to see it."
It was a bizarre night that suddenly seemed to be less so bad.
Lina frowned and looked down at the school uniform draped over her shoulders: "If you hadn't pointed hard at my waist now, I would have thought you were a saint who came down from heaven." β
"If you're willing to help, I can be a saint now."
Lina smiled, and was about to turn around to say something, when the moonlight in front of her eyes suddenly dimmed.
A long, strange and legendary shadow that seemed to come out of a nightmare story had come to the entrance of the alley at some point, covering the two of them silently.
A terrible, muffled, must have come from hell, like a throat cancer attack, echoed through the deep, filthy alleys.
"What are you doing?"
Behind her, the young man against her seemed to freeze completely.
Lina heard the young man behind her let out a somewhat broken grunt, or rather, a groan. Recite.
If he wasn't the one with the weapon, maybe she would have misinterpreted the voice as a cry for help.
Alas, little boy, nosy little boy.
At the critical moment, the matter of saving the world still has to let women come.
Lina smiled, turned around, put her arms around the other's neck charmingly, and shook his hand under the school uniform by the way.
"I'm sorry, just a little fun...... I took his money. β
Lina softly smiles at Gotham's most mysterious and terrifying lore.
She's not afraid of Batman.
In the past, Batman had saved her as a little girl.
Batman doesn't hurt the innocent.
This bat freak with pointy ears has terrified all criminals, made β‘β‘ leaders and thugs gnash their teeth, and his code name has been mockingly called out countless times in the mouths of the people of Gotham.
But when doom does come, the vengeful shadows that appear in the night, and the lively Robin Bird, are the only things the weak can hope for, the light that splits the clouds.
It's like the bat lamp that shines in the sky over Gotham.
In the crook of her arm, the young man seemed to relax.
Lina looked at the "robber" with her peripheral vision.
He was indeed very young, and most of his face was covered by masks and hats. From her current angle, she could only see that under the other party's long eyelashes, the half-covered eyes were as clear as carefully cut sapphires.
Batman didn't leave.
But the young boy seemed to have gained some courage, and followed Lina's example, and let out a somewhat flirtatious laugh.
"Yes, just a little bit of fun...... I didn't know Batman would care about anything like that - you're not going to break my arm for it, are you? It's just a joke. β
Probably not Theodore's delusion, after he uttered the word "joke", the atmosphere in the alley condensed like liquid nitrogen.
The woman next to him, under the cover of the school uniform, suddenly stabbed him in the ribs.
ββ¦β¦β
Oh shit, jokes, jokes.
He said the wrong thing.
Just as the physiological stiffness was about to spread to Theodore's body, the figure at the mouth of the alley disappeared as abruptly as when it came.
Theodore let out a long sigh of relief.
Lina snorted, leaned out from under her school uniform, and threw a rattling can into the trash bin at the entrance of the alley.
"It's amazing, I thought it was a gun - an empty beer can? You're going to take this out and rob it? β
The boy doesn't seem to have recovered from the shock of meeting Batman.
He explained dryly, as if by endorsement: "The human waist is sensitive to touch, but the ability to distinguish details is very poor. β
So, if you want to find an excuse to punish someone, you can write words in the back of him and let them guess the strokes.
For people with no special training, this method is tried.
It is guaranteed that after a "game", you can still owe more than 300 lashes.
Lina didn't hear Theodore's words, she raised her eyebrows and stared at the other man's face in a black mask.
"Well, guess what, I'm going to do you a favor?"
The young man closed his eyes in distraught.
He looked at the entrance of the alley and whispered to himself, "Nosy guy." β
Lina giggled.
As if to comprehend the teasing meaning in her laughter, the boy added in embarrassment: "...... I hate bats. β
"Oh, really? That's pretty surprising. β
The young man widened his eyes, pulled the school uniform off Lina's shoulder, and turned to leave.
"Wait, are you going to find someone else? They may not be willing to help you with this kind of thing like I do. β
The footsteps stopped hesitantly.
Lina: "Well, you know at this time of the night, there's no one on duty at all, and the phone is only stored in the message log, and the group of people from the Child Protection Association don't even listen to it, right?" β
Theodore said stiffly, "At least I tried." β
Find an outsider of the opposite gender, who has no previous crossings, who is much older than high school, and whose career is also contrary to that of the student, to make this call.
This practice is indeed safe, but the uncertainty is also very high.
If it weren't for the fact that he didn't know how to fake himself, Theodore didn't want to pull outsiders in at all.
- Isn't it more subtle for him to put on a wig himself, change into women's clothes, and come to make this call in person.
Lina laughed again.
"So, let's send letters, at least they'll read them during the day. I know a reliable channel that can send letters anonymously on your behalf. β
The young man looked at her cautiously, as if assessing Lina's emotions at this time, as well as the truth of her words.
After a while, as if to verify that she was "trustworthy," the boy took a handful of change out of his pocket and gave it to her.
"Middleman's honorarium."
Then, the two men stayed in the alley, waiting for Theodore to pull out the cap of his pen and finish writing an anonymous report letter.
Lina: "You're not from Gotham?" β
Theodore: "Just arrived. β
"I'll just say it." Lina nodded, "You're not Gotham at all. β
She looked at Theodore's movements: the boy was using his left hand, writing a long list of dog-like words.
"However, this kind of caution in small details is too Gotham."
When the letter was ready, Theodore covered the blank paper and put it in his arms. The woman led the way before him, and suddenly remembered something, and returned two-thirds of the money she had received.
"Well, the middleman doesn't have to pay so much."
"You'd better take it." Theodore didn't reach out to pick it up, "Just make up for my fright, and delay your night...... Business. β
"What the hell is the business, I'm only doing it on the first day, I haven't opened it, and I'm still waiting for a little boy."
Lina rolled her eyes widely: "Forget it, I'll quit, I'll find a tavern to work as a waitress tomorrow." β
Theodore looked at her in shock.
Lina laughed heartlessly again.
"They said it was a quick deal to do it β my mother, an irremediable poisonous worm, shared a needle with someone else, contracted a blood disease and needed a lot of medical bills. Anyway, you know, things like this happen every day in Gotham. β
"I had no choice but to put on the shortest piece of clothing, find the smelliest alley, and wait for someone to come to me, and think that no one should come."
"As a result, I waited for you."
Lina feigned shaking her head, but Theodore didn't miss the two drops of sparkling liquid that shook off her eyes.
Oh, it must be that the distance between each other is too safe, and the state of each hiding their hearts is too peaceful, so she will pour out her accumulated emotions to a child who is at least ten years younger than her.
"So I thought, forget it, I'm so unlucky anyway, and business will definitely not be good, so it's better to find a class and get a fixed salary."
"And then, maybe one day, just like you happened to see Tim, someone happened to see me."
Lina wiped the corners of her eyes and smiled brightly at Theodore.
"Life doesn't always get that bad, right?"

In the Batcave, Batman takes off his helmet.
Behind him, Robin was changing his uniform when he suddenly heard a shocking news.
"I saw Theodore Green."
"Whoβoh, Theodore."
Tim reacted, quickly swapped out his shorts, and approached Batman.
"Well, do you think my judgment is justified? Does he really look more like Superman, or is he another person we all know? β
Batman groaned for a moment.
"It's not quite like that."
"How so." Tim was a little confused, "Speaking of which, why is he out at such a late hour?" What was he doing when you found him? β
ββ¦β¦β
After a brief, abyssal silence, Batman coldly spat out a word.
"Buy. Spring. β
ββ¦β¦β¦β¦β
In the bat cave, the world's No. 1 detective and No. 2 detective looked at each other and were relatively speechless.
