Section 3 Arrival
The third verse is coming
In the dark underground hall, the melodious bells are wafting.
It is a shrine surrounded by an elaborately carved rock wall, and in the middle of the rock wall, a sacred statue is sculpted.
The statue looked like a giant mouse's head, except that the rat had horns. One of the corners is straight, while the other is curved into a circle. The statue's mouth opened angrily, and it seemed to exhale bursts of black breath from it. In front of the mouth, a huge altar was placed, and countless sacrifices were piled up in the altar.
Anyone who knows a thing or two about the art of sculpture will be able to see that this statue was formed on the basis of natural formation, with the addition of artificial details. It is because of this that this idol can be made to be very large. Even a giant can go directly into the giant mouth of the idol. And at the nose end of the statue, a huge bell hangs there.
Behind the altar, there is a long table. The long table looked unremarkable, but it had thirteen notches cut in it, and a stone was placed on the table in front of each notch. These stones look like ordinary magic stones, but they are painted with special patterns and imprints. However, all the rat people know that this is not an ordinary magic stone, but a gift from the rat god, and only the chosen one who has been recognized by the rat god can touch this magic stone without destroying it. In other words, the one who possesses this magic stone is the Abyss Lord, the supreme leader of the Nezumi Clan.
At this moment, twelve figures were sitting in their places at the table. Each figure wears a black cloak that shows their identity. Behind each figure stood a large crowd of supporters, guards, and retinues.
They are none other than the twelve Abyss Lords, the supreme decision-making structure of the Nezumi Clan. Just a few minutes ago, the entire temple was in an uproar. Because they were engaged in the most intense arguments, pointing fingers at each other, and uttering all sorts of swear and threats. But now, all the rats closed their mouths and looked at the idol in the distance with frightened eyes.
The giant bell on the tip of the idol's nose is making a loud sound.
No nezumi dared to climb the statue of the Rat God to ring the bell. Because the bell was a treasure given by the rat god himself, even the Great Prophet of Greyclaw did not dare to touch the sacred bell with his hands. The way to use that bell is not to strike it, but to worship. When a major event occurs and the Abyss Council needs to be called, the Grey Prophets will use the Great Bell to summon the twelve Abyss Lords.
At this time, above this cave, I don't know when it condensed into a black smoke. A dazzling bolt of lightning came from the black smoke just now, and it hit the giant bell accurately.
The gray prophets in the "This is ......" room were the first to react. They immediately bowed down and felt the wrath of the gods.
The Rat God was indeed furious, so the lightning did not stop there, but continued to shine in the black smoke. Every time the bell ended, lightning struck the bell again. So the bells rang incessantly, and the flashes of lightning polished the whole cavern. When the giant bell struck the thirteenth time, the dazzling electric light instantly changed direction, hitting the rat crowd, and turning more than a dozen rat people into pieces at once. Instead of being turned into charcoal by lightning, they were reduced to shards, suggesting that the lightning was not a natural phenomenon, but was the result of a powerful magical force.
The rats in the temple were silent.
With the exception of the Grey Prophet, the rest of the nezumi were actually speechless. There was no reaction even when the minced meat slid on his body.
From the direction of the statue's open mouth, words that did not belong to the world came out. The sound is strong, and it is full of indescribably powerful pressure. There were even timid nezumi who were scared to death by the magic of the voice.
Only the Grey Prophets understood the oracle of the Rat God. The gray-furred nezumi immediately obeyed, and they jumped to their feet and began to drive the people of the temple out. At this moment, the frightened rat people did not dare to resist the command of the gray prophet at all. In the blink of an eye, all but the twelve Abyss Lords were still alive and all the other rat men who were still alive were driven out of the temple by the Grey Prophet.
Only the Grey Prophet and the Abyss Lords remained. Each of them fell to their knees, waiting for the will of the Rat God.
In front of the idol, a strange energy suddenly condensed, and quickly formed a translucent mirror. Then, in the midst of the gaze of all the nezumi present, a figure walked out.
It was a tall nezumi, he was tall, about one and a half times as tall as an average nezumi if he stood up straight, he was clad in a black cloak like all Abyss Lords, but his exposed body was covered with fiery fur, and in his hands, he held a two-handed sword that shone with magical energy.
The red-furred rat strode towards the long table, until it reached a vacant corner of the round table. Here, there is the last piece of the abyss magic stone that has no owner, because that magic stone is engraved with the insignia of the rat god himself, so no one has been able to pass its test for a long time.
"I'm Ashrufat," the red-furred fur nezumi looked around, stunned, or at least panicked. "The Chosen One. He reached for the magic stone engraved with the rat god's own emblem. In the past, I don't know how many ambitious nezumi people in the Dao thought that they might become the Chosen One, and tried to get this abyssal magic stone. But each of them was immediately burned to ashes by the black flames that emanated from the stone. All the nezumi present were horrified to see Ashrufat grab the abyssal magic stone, clench it in the palm of his hand, and announce it to the surroundings.
"I have come at the command of God," said the red-haired rat-man named Eshurufat. "I will command you and fight for the glory of the Rat God, your civil strife has made the God extremely angry, and he has given the order that we must take Karak-Grom as quickly as possible!"
......
"Lord...... Master...... This is your abode......" the brown-furred nezumi introduced Ashruphat with a look of groveling to the limit. In front of Ashruphat was a cave dug out of the rock, and a door was installed at the entrance of the cave. It's already a pretty good place to live for the rat-people who live underground.
"I ...... I'm here to live......" said the brown-skinned rat man, pointing to a nearby cave that was more of a pit than the dwelling of Ashrufat. His voice stuttered slightly. Ashrufat's cold expression terrified him, for he knew that if Ashrufat said a word, he would be executed immediately. "Lord...... Master...... You...... What are your ...... If you need it, you can call it immediately...... I ......"
"I got it. Ashrufat replied. Then he walked into his dwelling. The whole cave looks fairly clean and tidy - by the standards of the nezumi. As he walked in, the sound of footsteps alarmed a group of rats that had been entrenched there, and they slipped into a small hole and fled.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to live in this place for a while. Ashrufat smiled bitterly at himself. "Carrie. He summoned in his head. "How's it going?"
"Something bad...... Carrie's voice sounded a little weak, "I hate the damn violent start and violent shutdown." I'm in the process of making internal adjustments to organize the data...... It will take some time to recover ......"
Ashrufat calmed down. Then he suddenly began to laugh at himself for when he had become so allergic. There was no need for the Rat God to deceive him at all, otherwise he could have given up halfway. In fact, the real downside to this deal is the Rat God β because he has already paid all the money beforehand. He sent Ashrufat out of that inexplicable ghost place, and helped him reawaken Carrie, if Ashrufat suddenly slackened off now, then maybe the Rat God couldn't do anything about it.
Of course, this is only "maybe". At least Carrie thinks the rat god must have set up some kind of trick.
Even if Ashrufat had no intention of breaking the contract, he could actually have a lot of room for flexibility. After all, what he promised to the rat god was only to "do your best", and everyone knew that there were a hundred explanations for the so-called "do your best", and none of them could be said to be wrong.
Eshuruphat checked the room that belonged to him and was bound to live in for a long time. It was a combination of natural and artificial caves, originally supposed to be a cavity underground, but was later dug out when the nezumi were digging a tunnel, so it was made into a room. The entire interior of the cave is a natural rock wall, and there are no back doors, except for a few cracks in the rock that are only large enough for rats to crawl out.
Of course, there is no furniture or decoration in such a cave. Ashrufat wasn't quite sure what was going on with the nezu-man, but by contrast, he seemed to have come to a barren country place.
Now Ashrufat began to understand a little bit about what the rat god had come to the door for.
To be honest, he originally thought it was a relatively simple thing to doβin a sense, it was the same as the Seven Nations Alliance's expedition to Callean. Using the understanding of religion and belief, it is enough to assemble into an army. And this time, the rat god also came down in person to build momentum for his appearance. In this way, things should be hand-to-hand.
But the fact that everything proves that Ashruphat is thinking too simply. Actually, it's normal to think about it now - if it would be useful for the Rat God to come down in person, he wouldn't need Ashrufat. He didn't need to find a loyal outsider to take on this duty, but only needed to personally appoint an emissary, for example, a gray prophet, to be the commander-in-chief, and he could solve this problem. It shouldn't be difficult to find a wise man with a lot of wisdom within such a large race, right?
The fact is that even if the Rat God himself appointed Ashruphat as the Chosen One, it would not change the selfish nature of these rats. After the initial fear dissipated, the rats quickly returned to normal. What followed was an endless tussle. Eshurufat's proposal to assemble an army was rejected by the rats one by one, and they desperately poured bitter water on Ashrufat, making a face of "I don't want to, but I can't help it", emphasizing their own troubles in order to get rid of the obligations brought by the war. In short, these rat people are all virtuous, and they always want to take advantage of others. Religious beliefs are important to the nezumi, but profit is their fundamental pursuit.
The only ones who supported Ashruphat were the Grey Prophets, but they were helpless against such selfish and despicable behavior of the race.
In this case, there is no suspense about the outcome of the matter. A meeting ended with a fruitful outcome - all the nezumi leaders agreed to join the war, but the details of the organization of the specific army, the arrangement of logistics, routes, reconnaissance, and so on were omitted. Ashrufat calculated that if the promises of the rat leaders at the meeting were all fulfilled, then he would probably be able to organize a nezumi army with a total strength of about 3,000 people. The fortress city of Karak-Grom is home to a full 50,000 dwarven warriors, and twice as many greenskins are fighting the dwarves.
Sure enough, it wasn't an easy task.
