Chapter 18: Vows (4)
"The communication channel is always on." Shelley said calmly, as he wished, he saw Luo Jia's face blue and white for a while, and then quickly turned red.
From the moment the original was found, Vogrim was noisy in the channel. But after the words about the wedding just landed, the signal fell into an eerie silence. Father Tech had to confirm twice that the communication signal was not affected by the fluctuations in subspace, and on the contrary, it was operating exceptionally smoothly. Shelley even recorded an additional clear sound of rain to add to Victor's white noise playlist.
She brushed back the cobwebs from the bedside lamp and lit the remaining oil, the dim light of the fire casting shadows on the curtain and rekindling the long-lost popularity of the attic. She listened to the heavy breathing in the channel and looked up at Luo Jia, who was still standing in place. He still covered his forehead, standing in place, neither advancing nor retreating.
"Do you have anything to say?" She asked, "I'll shut it down if I don't have anything to say?" β
"Wait!" Fogham and Roga said in unison. Shelley raised his eyebrows, thought for a moment, and felt that it was better to tease the one in front of him. She adjusted her sitting position and looked at the little one: "It's really not okay?" β
While aboard the Twilightstar, Roga was most afraid of Foggrim's chatter, and Phoenix never cared what his excessive intimacy would cause to the precocious childβor rather, he never cared about the effect of his actions on others.
Shelley knew that Roga also saw the pattern of Fogham's behavior, as well as the cold nature behind it. This may have been one of the important reasons why he escaped from the Twilight. Ordinary children may be accustomed to this warm illusion, but this is the heir of an emperor.
The golden-skinned child lowered his head and muttered, "Don't let him talk enough this time, next time he will have to go crazy......"
"What's crazy?" Fogrem broke the silence, "Is there anything more crazy than being inexplicably seduced into subspace and having a marriage contract?" β
"I remember the last time that Ada said you had a leg with Nkali." Victor's voice interjected at the right time, "reminding" Vogrim of his predicament.
There were a few strange noises on the other side of the channel, which seemed to be the sound of fists hitting the body. Victor snorted loudly: "I'm just repeating a fact!" β
Fogrem ignored him. "Don't tell him about the following." He reminded Shelley, followed by two muffled snorts from the Midnight Lord. "That's the body, and it has nothing to do with me." He rebuked, "We don't know each other very well. β
"That's not what you said last time you bragged. If Conrad had your freewheeling self-awareness, he would have lived to the fortieth millennium. Victor replied gloomily.
Shelley quickly sketched out a scene of Midnight Lord being trampled at Fogham's feet, rolling his eyes and not to be outdone. This scene had happened so many times aboard the Twilight Star that she barely had to use her imagination.
The Father of Technology sighed, glad that Luo Jia couldn't hear the conversation. Or rather, it is precisely because the little protoplasma can't hear that the two of them are so unscrupulous.
Out of some respect for the timeline, the status quo of the grandmother's paradox remains unresolved in the fortieth millennium, as well as concerns about the direction of Luo Jia's own development. When the little guy was on the boat, the two of them would not be so arbitrary to grasp each other's pain points and quarrel. Obviously, no one wanted little Roga to be fed all sorts of bad jokes about Coetze's mental health and Fenus's head before he met his brother.
She beckoned to Luo Jia, and the little guy hesitated for a moment, then slowly moved his steps and walked over.
He had apparently grown a lot taller since the last separation, and had already touched the chin of the seated tech priest. He craned his neck and hung his head, and the boy shook as Shelley put his hand on his shoulder, making the priest laugh.
Colfaron would not have believed that his prophet would be like a quail with a cowing neck. She thought.
She laughed as she pinched Roga's chin and lifted his head up to face herself. "Does it still hurt? Show me. β
Luo Jia sighed, still covering his forehead.
"Does it hurt or doesn't it hurt?" Shelley asked, gently flicking his fingers away. Luo Jia let go of her strength and obediently turned her head sideways to make her see more clearly.
"What?" Vogrim's attention finally shifted away from the bickering with Victor, "What doesn't hurt, where did he get hurt?" Is it serious? Who did this to you? β
"It doesn't hurt, it doesn't feel anything." Luo Jia replied in a low voice. The redness and swelling from the collision were almost gone, but because he was jumping too quickly at the time, and it hurt a little when he was startled. Shelley pressed her fingers against the remaining lump and gently rubbed away the last bits of bruising.
"What are you hiding if it doesn't hurt?"
"I ...... I forgot. Luo Jia said awkwardly. The Tech Priest heard something that the little guy didn't want to admit. Fogham was still yelling, muttering something like a weak heart, a stiff wing, or something like that.
Luo Jia just didn't know in what capacity to accept their care. Shelley thought, what a cruelty it was for a child of this age. It's a pity that she has seen too many cruel stories, and a cute child alone is no longer enough to stir her heart. She reached out and pulled a strand of his broken hair behind her ear.
"How's it going tonight? You suddenly disappeared into the banquet, and the pastor was in a hurry. We've been looking for you for a long time. "If you don't show up again, I'm afraid you'll really have to break through the curtain of reality and subspace, and break in and fight.
"It's fine. I met the Scarlet Lady, and she was ...... Have ideas. I think she was probably a powerful servant, but she was very dissatisfied with her master. She wants to use my powers. β
"Oh, a deal." Shelley gently stroked the top of Roga's head. "Be careful, there are countless hidden terms in any deal with a subspace minions, and the first one is... Winner takes all. β
"She can't win." "From the beginning, she just wanted to ask for my recognition to earn a place for her rebellious self. What is her owner's name...... The Lord of Change seems to be much inferior to the Insatiable Queen, and even her servants are not as loyal as her. At least Ulaia still wants to do something for his master, and the Duke of Trivani is simply impatient to find me. She had something else on her mind at first, but when she saw ......"
As he thought back to the deal, he felt more and more that Casas had treated him very well. Although Nevrita acted in a twisted manner, almost everyone Roga saw on Colchis did so, but in varying degrees of immersion.
"Oh?" A simple question, the rising tone dragged Luo Jia back to reality. He realized that he couldn't help but boast to Shelley about his accomplishments again, and that the last time he did so, all he ended up with was the ashes of Bethlehem and the pit after the Twilight Star had disappeared.
Don't lie to yourself. A voice in his heart said. You've been abandoned once, don't you have a long memory?
He saw the Priest of Technology sitting on the soft couch, tilting his head slightly, his gray-blue eyes staring at him intently.
"What did she see?" Shelley's lips closed one by one. Ignoring the metal neck exposed at the neckline, and the thin silver-white metal wire on her head, she is almost an ordinary and elegant scholar, a... Concerned mothers of their children.
"Nothing." He swallowed the information about the King in Yellow and the strange black brand, and said quietly.
There will never be only one betrayal, that's what Shelley told him.
