Chapter 4: The Princess and Caesar (1)
The dazzling sun hung in the sky, cloudless, and the clear sky seemed to be a calm lake, and the waves were not alarmed. Only the occasional bird passing by will bring a slight ripple.
Rome-Caesarea.
For most Roman citizens, it was no different today than it was in the pastβthe recitations of the schools, the sacrificial bells and carols of the temple, the neat slogans of the barracks, the busy footsteps of the pedestrians, the shouts of the market vendors, the noise of arguments in the council............ These various "symphonies" converged into a day in Caesarea, every day, and still today.
However, many people also know that today is different from the past. It may seem common for a special group of visitors to visit Caesar's castle, but these people are so unusual that the adults don't know how to receive them, or whether to welcome or send them off.
In the corridors of the castle, Theodore walked quietly forward, followed by Herodotus, sweating profusely, as if something terrible had happened.
"The moat in Caesarea must be completed this year, and the attached aqueduct will be built, and I will build another aqueduct in the new city to supply the water supply of the residential areas. β
Theodore lowered his head, looked at the notepad densely written with words in his hand, wrote down what he had just said, and walked forward unhurriedly.
"Very good, should be built, smart and practical, I don't have any meaning. Herodotus hurriedly chimed in: "The life of Roman citizens should be our first concern!"
"And I hope that at the next meeting there will be a discussion of these ordinances concerning the security of the city, and Herodotus will bring them up by you. Theodore handed him the notepad and said with a slight hint of teasing, "I don't want any more complaints about obstruction of traffic!"
"Rest assured, I will do this......, but!" Herodotus strode up to Theodore and stopped him, "Can we talk about the 'visitors' first?"
"Well, of course!" Theodore smiled and walked to the side of the guardrail, leaning against the guardrail and handing Herodotus a "please" gesture: "Is there anything you want to ask?"
"Isn't it too abrupt to let someone who doesn't know the details enter your castle?!, not to mention that it should be the duty of Virgil and himself to receive foreign guests and negotiate with them!" His tone was a little fierce: "I beg your pardon, but as your courtier, I must protest! This is simply the most irresponsible act! The laws of Rome are not ornamental! Moreover, the purpose of these people is unknown and ...... They will be a threat to Rome!"
"Threats? What threat can they pose?" Theodore smiled, "We're just getting a group of homeless knights back to their allegiance to their masters, what's the threat?"
"That's a threat! Dear Miss Helena, your friend, she is the heir to that empire! Of course, she didn't have any liliang in the past, so we can acquiesce to your protection of her. But now these knights will be her liliang. Herodotus became more and more agitated the more he spoke, so much so that he trembled: "The time for the return of Haringus and Talboa is too short, let alone those lords who don't mean anything. Maybe Miss Helena doesn't have any ill intentions in her own right, but the knights don't! They certainly didn't come all the way to find her just to have a manor for the rest of their lives!
"So, you don't think they should be allowed to meet now?"
"Of course! But it's too late. Herodotus glared at Theodor like a grumpy child: "Didn't the generous and merciful Caesar give them a parlor as if he were entertaining guests?"
"Oh, my dear Herodotus. Theodore chuckled and shook his head: "You still don't understand. β
"Yes, I don't understand!" said Herodotus, in a deep voice, "what are the great Caesars?"
"I mean, we don't yet have a formal identity, not for us, but for the Haringostar Boyas, and the rest of the northern humans. β
"To the Romans, I am Caesar, but to them I am only a foreign ruler, and even the whole of Rome is an alien! Maybe the people at the bottom will not feel much, but the scholars, the workshop owners, the knights, and even the nobles, they will resist us. Theodore said softly, "Because the culture and way of life of Rome is unheard of by them, people will resist the unknown, let alone a completely different civilization?!"
"What do you mean......" Herodotus somewhat understood what he meant, "We need someone to admit it?"
"And the recognition of an imperial heir could not be better!" Theodore nodded: "This will make more people recognize us, so not only should we not be wary of them, but we should welcome them! Let them treat Rome as one of their own people, with whom we can cooperate and rely on each other." Helena will be the most important bond between us, these knights are desperate for help and recognition, and so are we!"
"As long as they approve of Roman rule, we will help them, maybe twenty years, maybe a hundred years, and Rome will be no different from them!
"It's shocking!" Herodotus glared and raised his head: "Is this what you have been planning for a long time?
It's just a rhetoric that just came to mind............ Theodore muttered in his heart, but he still kept a smile on his face: "If there is no objection, please go and gather those dear councillors, many things are better planned in advance!"
"Follow your will, Caesar. Herodotus' satisfied smile floated across his face, he bowed gracefully, and then swayed away from Theodore's sight.
Looking at Herodotus in the distance, Theodore's smile gradually disappeared, and was replaced by a trace of inexplicable melancholy, always feeling that something very precious had been soiled by himself, and he couldn't bear it.
"Helena, Helena......" Theodore whispered, "what shall I do? What shall ......I do? What will happen?"
"Friends, allies, what are we supposed to be?"

Theodore, alone, strolled quietly to the door, where the faithful Knight Will was standing guard.
Will, who was going to die in Tulgar with Raymond, was slapped by his boss and then taken out of Tulga Castle by Terenus in a coma. By the time he woke up, the Order had crossed the Vistula.
"This is an order from your commander Raymond to you, Adjutant Will. Live and then go find a new purpose for yourself!"
After Terenus said this, the silent Will no longer looked up, and acquiesced in the validity of this order, and voluntarily joined the Knights of the Dawn, which had been shrunk several times, intending to follow the experienced commander first to see if he could really find the meaning of his true life as Raymond said.
"Greetings to you, Lord Julian!" Will saw Theodore approaching, and immediately smiled and bowed his head to him, "Do you have any orders?"
"No, just walk around. Theodore waved his hand and pointed behind the door with a little curiosity: "Aren't they finished yet?"
"The Flag Bearer of Terenus is discussing with Princess Helena, but the exact details are unknown. Will replied, "Would you like to go in and have a look?"
"I?of course not!" said Theodore with a smile, "since you have promised others, then you must abide by it, and the right to use it here is now theirs." β
"You're a good guy. Will said with a smile, bowing his head slightly in a sincere tone, and looking at him sincerely: "You are also willing to take us in." Of course, thank you more for your willingness to give Princess Helena protection instead of going to ...... Go...... I think you should understand. β
"She's my friend, and I'm not going to take advantage of my friend, and I've promised someone else to protect her!" Theodore said softly, "Is anyone going to take advantage of his friend?"
"Xiexie!" Looking at Theodore's expression, Will didn't know what else he could say, so he had to thank him.
"Speaking of which, can you tell me your name?" asked Theodore, "Are you a knight?"
"Will, that's my name!" Will tilted his head and smiled, "The former adjutant of the Tulga garrison, and now the adjutant of the Flag Bearer of the Knights of the Dawn, is he also a knight?"
"Tulga?" asked Theodore, "I heard that you fought a great battle there!"
"It's our comrades-in-arms, it's amazing!" Will's face was a little gloomy: "For two days and two nights, 20,000 orcs besieged us, and they even had catapults! Many excellent warriors died there! Fatis, Macia, Remy, Landzel, Raymond............ Many people!"
"If it weren't for their generosity, we wouldn't even have managed to break through!" they defended their glory, and we lost forever!" the young lieutenant seemed to laugh at himself, as if he was remembering the lost robes: "I can only ...... Barely survived!"
"Sometimes it is more heroic to live than to die! But to live is to create the future!" Theodore patted him on the shoulder: "Our enemies are still strong, and there is still a long way to go to defeat them!
"Bang!" rang, and the door to the living room was pushed open.
Elendil walked out with a puzzled face, wearing the longsword of the Knights of the Dawn, but still wearing the eagle armor of the Imperial Guard, and the purple horsehair helmet in his arms, standing in front of Theodore.
He seemed to have thought about it for a long time before deciding. Stand up straight and give Theodore a standard Roman salute before speaking, "Tyrenus Flag Bearer invites you in, Caesar!"
