Section 29 General Offensive
Section 29 General Attack
The green-skinned army still completed the last part of the road. Now, the dwarven castle in front of them is in sight.
Along the way, the harassment of the dwarves has not stopped. The harassment they were subjected to today was not a squad raid like yesterday's, but a bomb from the sky. In addition to the central road, there are many traps on the outside. Whenever some shrewd kid thought they had found a chance to get out of the group, they immediately regretted their decision. Because at any moment there will be a death pit on the ground, or a row of sharp stakes will fly out of the grass that can turn orcs into skewers at once. And, of course, there are the sharp wires on the downhill road, the bombs that detonate when you step on them, and the fuel that can turn a hillside into a sea of fire in an instant.
The greenskins cursed all the way, eager to catch the dwarves and eat them alive. But in any case, they knew the enemy's lair, and the castle built by the dwarves was ahead. The dwarves harassed them on the periphery so that they could not approach the castle. As long as they take the castle, then they will win the battle!
This is indeed a castle. A surface fortress built with the excellent engineering skills of the dwarves. While dwarves are generally more than happy to build fortified cities that integrate the surface and the ground, they can also build such human-like castles under certain conditions. And because of the differences in engineering skills between the two sides, the castles built by the dwarves are stronger and easier to defend and difficult to attack.
"The greenskin is coming!" At this moment, the lookout at the highest point of the castle had seen a torrent of green in the distance. In fact, he had been waiting impatiently in this position.
The Grand Forge, Naragrim, rushed to the top of the city in the shortest amount of time, snatched the binoculars from the lookout, and began to carefully observe the greenskinned lineup in the distance.
Naragrim is no longer what it used to be. At this moment, he had taken off the "standard uniform" of the engineers and was shirtless. However, because his body is already covered with various tattoos, his real skin is concealed. His hair was shaved off on both sides, leaving only the middle part, and was dyed orange along with his beard. The rest of the hair and beard are combed with lard so that they can stand on end, creating a striking hairstyle of "cockscomb". He carried two weapons on his back, a well-made musket, and a rune battle axe.
Although he still retains the honorary title of "Great Foundry", he can lose, and now Naragrim is already a butcher warrior.
"Very good, there are quite a few of them. Naragrim muttered to himself. He turned around, and there was already a large group of eager engineers (and some butchers, of course) gathered behind him. "Brothers, are you ready?"
The crowd erupted in cheers. After staying here for so long, every dwarf grew a little impatient.
The helicopters were still hovering over the greenskins, but they were no longer dropping bombs. Therefore, Greenskin can calmly set up at this time, ready to attack the castle.
It was said to be an attack, but in fact the Greenskins did not have any siege weapons at the moment. Their war machinery, if any, had been destroyed during two days of continuous harassment. According to the orthodox siege steps, it would be too late for the Greenskins to attack today. Because without the right war machines, it would be impossible for them to attack the fortified walls.
War machines must be built of suitable wood, and the dwarves certainly don't have much good wood left in the area. This means that this siege battle will drag on for a long time.
But it's clear that the Greenskins are going to break the rules. Instead of preparing for camping, they formed an attacking formation. A large group of bow and arrow boys were placed on the front line, and at a glance it was clear that the road was used to suppress the city. Behind the Bow Boy, there is a group of green skins carrying giant trees. Even the dwarves had to admit that Greenskins were fast, and the only large log in the vicinity was chopped down and used as a breaker.
"Artillery ready. Naragrim shouted loudly.
At the gun emplacements below the watchtower, the engineers had already begun to be nervously busy. The gunpowder was reloaded almost instantaneously, and in front of each cannon, two gunners carefully shoved new shells into the muzzles.
Although the invention of gunpowder and cannon has an ancient history, there have always been only two types of shells in this world, and even the Society of Engineers has not been able to invent a third: the first is a solid cannonball, and the second is a shotgun, also known as a shotgun. Although chain-shells were sometimes used by gunners, they were often considered to be a variant of solid shells. But before the war began, the Grand Forger Ashrufat invented a third type of cannonball, which was the flowering shell they were about to fire now.
Such shells were hollow, and gunpowder was stored in the middle. The shell of the shell was loaded with a new type of runestone. When the cannonball hits the ground, the violent impact will cause the runes on the cannonball to explode, detonating the gunpowder inside the cannonball. In the weapons testing field, these shells were powerful, but this was their first actual combat. Because even with the skills of the dwarves, this kind of cannonball can be regarded as difficult to make, powerful but expensive.
The greenskins under the city have been lined up. It's still early, and it's still a long time before it gets dark – enough time to fight two fights. There was silence on the battlefield. The dwarves adjusted the muzzles of their cannons, and the greenskins waited silently.
The sound of war originally began on the greenskin's side, with tens of thousands of sharp blades beating rhythmically, making bursts of primitive beats. It is an ancient ritual of the Greenskins to spread fear to their enemies.
But it makes no sense. The dwarves guarding the city today may be far inferior to them in numbers, but they have a clear battle plan and confidence in victory. The dwarves were the last to check their weapons. These steels will destroy these green torrents of destruction with their roar.
"Enough!" The Tin Boss stopped his men's clapping ceremony. "Ah, kill them all...... Waaaagh......”
The greenskins howled and went on the offensive. The Ironhide Boss does have the talent to match a war commander, and under his command, Greenskin's actions don't seem disorganized. The Bow Boys rushed to the wall, trying to get close to the walls and use their bows and arrows to suppress the city. When they were done, the strong greenskins of the brigade would carry the giant logs under the cover of bows and arrows to strike the castle gates.
Ordinary orcs are the type who have muscles but no brains, and can do whatever they want. But the IQ level of a boss is definitely not comparable to that of ordinary orcs. The Ironhide Boss had a keen eye, and as soon as he arrived in the city, he noticed that the makeshift castle was too fragile compared to the powerful city fortresses of the dwarves.
That's right, it's a castle made of stone. But the castle is tall, but it's thin. Because it lacks the complex multiple defenses that dwarves are used to. Ordinary castles (i.e., human castles) are generally divided into outer walls and internal towers (or long halls). And this temporary castle is one of two – in other words, the entire castle is a building, there is no distinction between inside and outside. This makes the defensive role of the castle inelastic, and a breakthrough at any one point is equivalent to the fall of the castle.
"Give it to me! Give it to me!" Under the supervision of the boss and the leaders of all ranks, the bow boys of the brigade began to move closer to the castle. The goblin archers came first, followed by the orc bow boys.
The cannon at the head of the city opened fire unceremoniously.
The new flowering cannonball landed in the center of the goblins' battle array. With a dull explosion, a piece of it was neatly "ripped" off in an instant. The impact of the explosion caused the entire phalanx to collapse, and the goblins recovered from their shock and immediately began to flee crying for their fathers and mothers.
The rout of the goblins did not affect the orcs behind to continue to follow at all, and certainly did not affect the other cannons to continue firing. In the blink of an eye, the battle was in full swing.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!" Above the city, the engineers cleaned the chambers, loaded the cannons, and aimed them at a speed that ordinary gunners could hardly achieve. They compensated for the lack of cannons with their skillful skills, and in the time it took for the average gunner to fire three shells, the gunners at the head of the city had already fired four shells.
The power of the flowering shells is very amazing, and each time the shell hits, the air wave generated by the explosion will first directly lift the green skin around the landing point, and then the shrapnel fragmented by the shell will scatter in all directions, causing a large area of damage. Everywhere he went, there was a mess, and flesh and blood were flying. But the orcs vented all the grievances of the march, rushed forward desperately, and began to fire arrows at the city.
While the arrows posed little threat to the sheltered dwarves, the few clear-headed Greenskins soon discovered something strange that the Greenskins were not attacked by the musketeers.
The war between the Greenskins and the Dwarves has been going on for so long that both sides know each other very well. For the Greenskins, the dwarven muskets and cannons are an absolute long-term nightmare.
But if there is a chance to choose between the cannon or the musket on the battlefield, then the really level-headed greenskin will choose to charge at the cannon.
Although the dwarven cannon is terrifying, it is really strictly speaking, the green skin that died under the cannon is really not too much. The cannon is powerful and has a long range, but after all, it is troublesome to reload, and it is impossible to arrange too many of them at once. More often than not, artillery existed only as a deterrent, or as a heavy weapon for attacking fortifications.
Compared with cannons, muskets have the same principle, but because they are easy to carry, they can be placed on the battlefield in large quantities at one time. It is impossible to place a thousand cannons on the battlefield, but it is not too difficult to arrange ten thousand musketeers. Besides, muskets are far more convenient and quicker to reload than cannons—in short, a combination of factors makes them far more casualty than cannons.
In fact, no matter what the battle, the dwarven musketeers can always be seen and play a major role on the battlefield. Musket bullets also always pose a great threat to the greenskinned hoplites.
For Greenskins, this may have been the first time they had seen no musketeers in a siege.
The battle went on for a while. The Archer Kid took the powerful damage of the Blossom Cannon, and aimed his shot at the cannon's firing port. Although there is still a lot of room for improvement in the accuracy of the green-skinned bow and arrows, it can't stand the crowd, and there are still many arrows that are lucky to be shot in, and the dwarves have a few cannons that have begun to slow down.
Greenskin's excitement was greatly encouraged, and with the shout of "Waaaagh ......", the orcs carrying the giant tree began to rush forward. A few flowering shells blew the greenskins carrying the wood to the ground, but new greenskins were immediately replenished. The giant tree was eventually carried to the gates of the city and began to ram the walls.
Seeing that the city gate was about to be breached, the greenskins went crazy with excitement, and Waaaagh's shouts became even harder. Even the goblin bow boys were able to endure the powerful damage of the blossom bullets without fleeing.
However, this situation only lasted for a short time. As the greenskins were busy banging on the door, the flowering cannonball fell over their heads. These were not fired from cannons, but dropped by the dwarven defenders. This was much faster than firing from a cannon, but in a short period of time, a dozen shells fell, killing and wounding most of the orcs attacking the city gates.
