Chapter 137: Skill and Strength
The school grounds in the outer courtyard of the royal palace were chosen as the dueling arena. Byron, who was shackled all over his body, was escorted by soldiers to the jousting arena. The beast was excited, and glanced at Byron, who was about to show his fangs. Today's weather is gray and windy, and the sun is trying to peek out of the clouds. Joshua sat in the center of the west side of the arena, listlessly "watching" the battle that would ultimately decide a man's life and death.
Thousands of people came to see Byron's life and death. They stood in a row in the walkways of the outer walls of the royal palace, and also crowded side by side on the steps of the fortress and tower. Some of the houses closest to the palace were filled with people at the entrance to the stable, in the windows of the arched bridge, and even on the balconies and rooftops. And the square itself was even more crowded, forcing the palace guards to keep pushing and driving away, thinking that there was room for a duel. In order to be able to watch the duel comfortably, some people brought stools, while others brought wooden barrels. How nice it would be if a big theater was found to be the venue for this duel, Joshua thought boredly, and if Roger was defeated and Byron was executed, the funeral expenses would be saved. Some onlookers carried their children on their shoulders, and the crowd screamed incessantly.
"βman, you never thought that one day your life would be in my hands, did you?" Roger raised his hand so that Miranda could put the light chain mail off his head for him, and smiled at Byron, who was not far away. "Or that your life is in the hands of me and Schroeder. β
"Of course, all this is premised on my belief in your innocence, and I propose our proposal to Parsa. In a few years' time, I believe that this duel will forever be recorded in the annals of the Kingdom of Reims. Whether you end up on the execution table or if this injustice is cleared. β
"Alas, no matter what the occasion, you always show that you don't care. You must know that my life has been handed over to you, and I hope you can occasionally take it seriously. β
"That's true. You can see for yourself? I'm already serious today. A smile twinked at Roger's lips.
"Ah, indeed. Byron thought to himself, among the captains of the Five Dragons Knights, Roger and himself were the closest. In the eyes of ordinary people, Roger's witty and humorous personality is so incompatible with him, who has always been rigorous. But they can still make friends. "Very well, once you get serious, then the final victory is indeed closer to us. β
"You're right," Roger agreed, "Parsa is not a person who doesn't hold grudges. He's already taught you and Master Haig Mallory on this, and he's probably going to teach me in Floating City. β
"Are you sure you don't have a helmet, my dear?" Miranda handed him a towering golden helmet with a copper plate on his forehead and a blue gem that reflected a flash of light, the symbol of the Blue Dragon Knights. But Byron found that the armor of this helmet had been removed. "With a helmet, I have to tie my hair up, which is too inconvenient. Roger put on his soft brown leather gloves and lifted his saber again, "I'm still used to the feeling of my hair flowing on the battlefield. β
"I just hope that your hair doesn't get caught by that beast, and that's a blessing. Miranda spread her hands.
Beside the beast Schroeder stood a little girl with blond hair. The beast in armor is a behemoth, the heavy armor made of special metal developed by the chief mechanic Albert Einstein wraps its body like armor, and the red steel is densely covered with grooves and scratches from the battle, of course, it may be the marks left by Einstein when he tested the strength of the metal, and of course there is a boiled cotton liner underneath. And the armor also has a collar-like design, which is close to the throat and protects the owner of the armor.
From Schroeder's movement across the courtyard, Byron did not notice how much the weight of the armor had any effect on him. It was as if he had been carved out of a boulder. The broad, seven-foot-long giant sword was stuck on the ground in front of him, and Schroeder gripped the crossbar with a pair of giant palms with mechanical gauntlets. Seeing this momentum, even Miranda was moved. "Schroeder looks menacing today. Miranda said quietly.
"He's always been like this. Roger replied nonchalantly.
Although Byron only has the word "trust" in Roger, he also has his own doubts, and his heart is raised to his throat because of this. Looking at Roger, he traveled lightly, wearing only soft leather clothes except for shin guards, arm armor, armor, and knee pads. The chain mail was covered with a layer of gleaming copper scales, but the two combined were less than one-sixth of Schroeder's heavy armor. And Roger didn't even have a helmet, not even a nose guard. His Western-style longsword is very dazzling, and the wider it reaches the tip, the more suitable it is for both stabbing and slashing.
Byron remembers that when he used to go on a journey with Roger, in the face of a strong enemy, Roger's tactic was to keep circling around, luring the opponent to attack, until he was exhausted and couldn't even lift his sword, and then launched a counterattack after the last one. Whether Roger's abacus worked in front of a beast like Schroeder, Byron's heart was still uncertain. After all, he hadn't seen Schroeder's strength run out.
Between the two duelists, a platform protrudes from the stone tower on the west side of the school grounds, where Parsa and Ecbeldo are seated. Joshua, as king, sat at the bottom of the platform, surrounded by many guards.
Parsa glanced briefly at Byron and raised her arm. A dozen trumpeters immediately played so that the crowd began to quiet down. Ecbertor walked into the arena with the Bishop, praying to the Goddess of Light to make a decision on their innocence, and to ask the warriors to give strength to the righteous side.
"Looks like Mistress Roger is a bit contemptuous of you. Little Erin on the side said to Schroeder with a smile. On one side was the heavily armed leader of the Red Dragon Knights, but the opponent was dressed very lightly, and everyone present would have the same thoughts as Erin without exception.
"You're wrong. If he chooses to wrap as tightly as I do, he's going to lose today. Schroeder touched Erin's head and walked to the center of the court, "He must be trying to use his skill and speed to beat me." β
There is a thirty yard gap between the two. Roger strode forward, and the beast quickly responded. The ground didn't shake when the beast walked, and by the way, the martial arts trial forbade the use of fighting spirit on both sides, Byron thought to himself. With only ten yards left, Roger paused to speak, "I didn't expect you to really become Parsa's acting knight?"
Schroeder snorted contemptuously, "How embarrassed I would give up such an opportunity!" he continued to step forward, unmoved.
Roger slid to the side. "Do you think Byron murdered the king?" the beast turned, keeping Roger in his sights. "He's the king's own brother. β
"If Byron were sinless, the gods of heaven would have given you strength, wouldn't they?"
Roger's sword thrusts, but Schroeder pushes the sword aside with his palm wrapped around the mechanical gauntlet, and then swings his greatsword at Roger. The leader of the Blue Dragon Knights quickly avoided unscathed. The longsword thrusts again. Schroeder slashed at the spear again, but Roger quickly retracted, followed by another lunge. This time, the tip of the sword slashed across the beast's chest, making a piercing metal scraping sound, leaving a long, bright scratch on the red steel armor. "It's Einstein's masterpiece," Roger laughed, "and if it were an ordinary heavy armor, it would never be able to help my sharp sword."
Schroeder grunted and charged, looking a little heavy on his gait as he couldn't use his fighting energy, and slashed his greatsword at Roger's head. Roger easily dodged the blow again. "If you can use your fighting energy, I will have to move my head with that real red heavy explosion slash just now. β
"Roger, are we here to fight or are we here to talk nonsense? If you could use your fighting spirit, you would have started the tsunami rush a long time ago. β
"is used to distract you. Roger stabbed the beast in the abdomen with agility. However, the solid armor made this sneak attack useless. However, Schroeder's backcut also fell short. The long sword shook around the giant sword, and Roger's attack stretched in and out like a spiritual snake, seemingly feint to capture the lower plate, but in fact, it went straight to the upper body and stabbed at different parts.
"Do you want to use skill to defeat Schroeder's strength? But the show has just begun. Erin clapped her hands and said, "But he's finally a feast for my eyes!"
