Section XXXVI: The Pole

How can you win against an opponent with overwhelming heavyweight superiority who doesn't have the strength and physique to contend with?

If you throw this question at someone who's seen some adventures and thinks they know a lot about combat, they're likely to paint a rhetorical picture of how to win by accurately hitting their opponent's weaknesses with their dodge skills and dexterity – and it must have been done with ease.

Ignoring the last part, the previous account of how the lightweight fighters deal with heavy opponents is really right in terms of thinking.

The most important thing is to avoid your own weakness - that is, a head-on conflict between physique and strength that determines success or failure, and choose to dominate the enemy with dexterity and speed. In the mouths of these talkers, the battle will always be taken for granted like this: a nimble lightly armed warrior who easily dodges heavy weapon attacks in heavy armor and takes them down romantically and handsomely.

But if you're consulting a veteran or seasoned adventurer with actual combat experience, he'll most likely give you a not-so-romantic answer:

"Get a few helpers, or just don't fight him, turn around and run. ”

The advantage of the heavyweight is fatal.

A strong physique means that you can take more damage, and you can continue to fight after an attack that would be fatal to someone else - this leads to a miscalculation of the effect of an attack, and you make a mistake when you think the blow can be knocked out, and you die.

The powerful arms mean that longer and heavier weapons can be used, which increases the range and the power of a single hit. Even if it is true that the speed is a little slower than that of the dexterous lightly armed warrior, the strong combat power of being hit or injured is more than enough to make up for it.

The opponent can withstand multiple attacks, and because they are strong, they can use longer weapons. And if you get hit once, you will probably be seriously injured, and even if you do try to dodge the attack and get close to the range you can attack, this blow will not necessarily be able to knock out the opponent. Finally, you're close enough to get this distance, and if this blow can't be fatal, you won't have a second chance.

The conditions for victory were extremely harsh.

In order to make up for the huge gap in physical fitness, you can only have an advantage in acquired conditions such as skill or weaponry to bridge this gap.

But the most desperate point is that these acquired advantages can also be obtained by the other party.

So you have to play smart.

"Stalp, Tride—" The flames flickered in a circle, and Henry approached the monster at high speed with Kramer in one hand, and then mercilessly landed his sword on its forehead.

"Bang!!" "Whew!!" The thick skull began to crack under the powerful blade blow, but this attack was like the bamboo thorn in the previous trap that could not really deal damage. Almost as soon as the sage drew his sword and distanced himself, the wound began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Sure enough. "Henry's blow was a reservation, and the experimental significance was greater than the actual kill. Although it is more of the epidermis that heals and the bones underneath it are slightly slower, this astonishing recovery rate makes most normal attacks ineffective.

The monster began to wriggle its body and fight back, with a ten-ton body lying there, even Henry wouldn't risk forcibly blocking its attack head-on.

The sage had no choice but to dodge, and Aya and the others, who had stayed behind him, sensed his predicament, and after a little observation, they gathered together and said something in their ears, and grabbed all the remaining arrows and went around the long way to approach the monster from the other side.

"Whew-" "Whew-" The leather boots crushed the grass off the ground, and the sage's eyes shone with a blue glow, changing from one hand to two hands, keeping the tip of the sword pointed at the monster.

It has a certain level of intelligence, as can be seen from what has happened before. Thus it was able to realize that Henry's Kramer could inflict great damage on itself, which gave the monster a rare caution, and it was wary of Kramer's next attack, so when the Sage pointed his sword at it, it subconsciously began to retreat and distance.

This vigilance and caution gave Henry a respite, though he didn't need it all, but it also made it difficult for him to get close to the monster.

He leaned in the direction of his head, while Mira, Kaleva, Lulu, and Aya, behind him, took a moment to run near the severed tail.

"Teacher, pay attention to the meat of the tail!" Mira said loudly to the sage of something that Miss Doctor had noticed after being carried by Aya and running to the vicinity to take a look at the firelight.

"Meat?" Henry kept moving and confronting each other, and looked at the severed tail next to him.

The tail that fell next to it lost its activity after struggling for more than ten seconds, and it no longer writhed like an earthworm. With his powerful night vision, Henry was able to catch a glimpse of rough skin that was 4 centimeters thick, and the muscles that had been strong near the skeleton seemed to melt and turned into pink rotten flesh.

The rotten flesh is very similar to the structure of the parasite that was hacked to death before, and does not have the fibers of real animal muscle, but more like the structure of a tumor polyp grown by a patient who has absorbed human nutrients from the body and is cut open - they cannot provide any strength, so naturally, the tail can no longer move.

Henry reacted immediately.

Aya's instincts were correct. Although the monster has a complete structure similar to that of an amphibian dollfish, it is only a mimicry of the mana stored in its body and the condensation of flesh and blood from the fused subject.

Because the creature form conforms to its current behavioral tendencies, it simulates a similar form. It didn't really become this creature, and no matter how well the simulation was put in place, it was still just a façade.

Simple fungi simulate the survival mode of plants after parasitism, and simulate the survival mode of animals in order to meet the expectations of reproduction and expansion.

However, because of the lack of variation in the way it mimics, there is a kind of "complete mimicry or no at all" flavor, but some parts can also be speculated on the structure of the organism.

This is the mistake they have fallen into before, treating it as if it were a real animal.

But this thing is not. It is only a mimicry, and although it is undoubtedly made of flesh, even the muscles that allow the body to move are only simulated by the magic stored in the body.

Once cut off and distanced from the main body, it loses its mana supply, and it will revert to the appearance of a puddle of rotten meat.

The way to deal with it is actually very simple.

Much like the enemy that Kramer's weapon was originally designed to face a long, long time ago.

"It still feels pain. Look at the notch in the tail, where the skin is not fully grown. This way, even ordinary arrows can be driven straight in. "Despite being a scholar rather than a warrior, Aya's sensitivity to weaknesses is even higher than that of the Roan Maiden, based on her knowledge of living things.

They wanted to create an opportunity for the sage, the pain would make the creature instinctively stiffen, and with Henry's fighting level, a split second was enough for him to swing three swords.

"Teacher!" Mira shouted again, raising three fingers at the sage.

"Hmm. Henry nodded, and then decisively began to close the distance.

"Roar!!" The monster that had lost its tail could not run for a long time because it did not have a counterweight balance, and it stayed more in place and faced the sage, which was right for Henry, and he deliberately ran in front of the monster for time, and it turned around in place as expected.

"Release!" the girl seized the opportunity and gave an order.

"Bang Bang-" "Bang-" Two crossbows and two bows shot out one after another.

"Boom-" "Take!" But because of the distance, three of the four arrows missed, and the only one that hit was the hunting bow in Lulu's hand - the arrow pierced deep into the tail wound of "Boom !!" made the monster roar again, and Henry also seized the opportunity to decisively stop, turning around on the heel of his right foot and slashing his sword from the bottom up.

"Smack!!" Krammer sliced open the bones of its jaw and sliced its upper jaw open, several fangs flew out with spit and blood, and half of the tip of its tongue flew out, and the sage dodged to the other side without greed, followed by another sword, this time slashing diagonally from top to bottom on the bite muscle of its left mouth.

The monster that was still bubbling on the surface of the "Roaring ——!!" body had lost its most powerful weapon because its mouth had been cut, and the few people behind it did not immediately distance themselves when they saw that the disturbance effect had been achieved. They were still waiting to prepare when they could support Henry.

"Qiang ——!" The sage dodged a grasp of the opponent and slashed at its right limb with Kramer.

The invincible greatsword of the "Snap ——!" succeeded in slicing it off, and Henry then ventured forward and kicked the severed right front paw, intending to leave it out of its body and lose its magical attack and die. But at this moment, the monster whose wounded part of its mouth had been largely repaired suddenly jumped up and swallowed its severed limb in one gulp.

"Roar!!" it rolled and distanced itself and the pimples on its body grew more and more frequent, and Henry realized that something was wrong, but he stopped and stepped back again before he could get close enough to wield his greatsword.

"Bang dong!!" a slender knob with a metallic sheen and bumps of size stuck on the ground where the sage had just stood, followed by the next one. After all eight arthropods and long legs stretched out in two or three seconds, the originally fat baby fish skin was suddenly torn open and fell to the ground like a rag bag, and a giant spider with a metallic glow appeared in the field.

The "hiss——!!" monster, which no longer has the ability to roar, stepped on its peeling skin, and in just a few minutes it actually changed its form again, much to the astonishment of almost everyone.

"Qiang ——!" Henry approached again, but the giant spider with eight long legs was far more agile than the fat baby fish before, it moved its long legs to easily open the distance, and then lowered the front half to face the deadly mouthparts of the sage, and the second half of the legs were raised to lift the important torso to a height of three or four meters, so that the tall sage could not be cut by Kramer.

"Clever, this is an evolution of our previous attacks. The more agile body makes it easier to dodge attacks and traps, and the carapace case is more resistant to sword attacks—" Aya explained in shock, but before he could finish speaking, the Sage slashed off a knuckle that approached him without resistance.

"Huh?" said Miss Doctor.

"That sword is no ordinary sword. The girl sighed and waved the others back. The rest of the battle was completely out of their way, and although it seemed that the monster that had turned into a spider due to the consumption and the severed tail was a whole circle smaller, it seemed that the hard carapace containing minerals was comparable to metal armor, and although the texture was more brittle than steel, enough strength was enough to break it, and that alone enough strength was enough to eliminate most people.

Cheerful or unwilling, they can only leave the responsibility for dealing with the monster to Henry alone.

"Hah-" Henry easily severed the ends of the two arthropods closest to him, and milky white bodily fluids began to leak out of the fracture, but the monster that seemed to have abandoned the sense of pain did not stiffen again. It decisively used its remaining six legs to open up the distance, moving laterally even faster than it could get up and at a faster speed than the sage who had activated the enhanced magic at this time.

"Three hundred and sixty degrees of attack without dead ends. "Someone used to describe the movements of spiders in such a word.

With eight legs spread out, one side stretched out and the other curled up, this biological structure is not suitable for long-distance running, but it is astonishing in its speed when dealing with a single target over short distances.

There is no doubt that this is an evolutionary scheme that has evolved after withstanding their attacks.

In just a few minutes, defenses have evolved in response to external threats, just as the slow evolution of organisms in nature for millions of years to adapt to their environment has been accelerated to the extreme.

This is the pole of the life form itself, and everything is a characteristic of the organism itself, perhaps a characteristic that it simulates after absorbing other living beings. It may not have real wisdom, but the speed with which it seeks advantages and avoids disadvantages and instinctively selects countermeasures is already comparable to wisdom.

It's just that this "speed" is not without a price.

Whether it's a miraculous high-speed evolution or simply driving this huge body to move, it requires a huge amount of energy. Since the parasitic absorption at the beginning to the assimilation of the host later, the accumulated mana is actually a preparation for the next generation after fusion, and now it has to use this stored energy, just for its own survival.

This magic should never be used again, which is why it mimics the animal's digestive system to mimic the act of eating—the magic is stored for the next generation, and the meat is eaten so that the body can sustain itself so that it can travel long distances.

But now that both physical and magical power have been consumed, and the sage has sensed its weakness—

Henry reached into his fanny pack and pulled something out.

The so-called toddlers of the assimilated villagers before did not dare to cross the shrine's inscription rope precisely because of the magical barrier that existed.

The so-called enchantment called by the people of the Moon Country, in fact, according to the explanation of the Rigal magician, is "the alien magic repelling circle".

A powerful single mana combined with a runic form can greatly weaken outsiders who are not homogeneous in it. In more popular terms, it is the "forbidden magic array".

And for monsters who live by magic, the forbidden magic array is almost no different from death.

"Click-" The druid rune stone in his hand lit up with a green glow, and the sage made a feint to lure it to attack again after rushing in front of the monster, and then threw one of the White Dragon Legacy that he had borrowed from the island in the middle of the lake at the predetermined place.

"Bang ——!!" The dazzling white light spread out from around the rune stone in an instant, and the diffuse magic made Mira in the distance feel a little uncomfortable, and the little unicorn farther away also screamed, and the monster in the center was even more like an electric shock in the sound of "hiss-" and the green smoke came out of its body and froze in place.

"Knock ——!!" But the sage, who was the source of the mana output, was not affected in the slightest, and he took a heavy step, and then rushed out with a higher speed and power than in the shrine.

The fused monster is magically driven, and the magic that was originally scattered in the body of each bug and individual is condensed to drive the huge body - this means that although it does not have the organ vital points of traditional creatures, there will still be a magical "core" somewhere in the body.

Considering the convenience of delivering magic to all parts of the body, this core will naturally be in the very center of the torso.

The huge baby fish is difficult to judge because of the hypertrophy of the torso, and it has become a spider and shrunk by one size, which is much easier to find.

"Boom!" The scattered air under his feet blew down the grass, and the sage who jumped up opened a distance of several meters from the ground, facing the immobile monster, from top to bottom—

slashed out a sword—

"Bang !!!"

The shell shattered, followed by a spill of bodily fluids, and the glowing mana core in the center of the torso that vibrated like a heartbeat was accurately hit.

Then cut it open.

"——!"

The light of the runestone dissipated, and Mira and the little unicorn in the distance breathed a sigh of relief, while the monster in place remained motionless.

The severed body froze in place like a stone statue, and as everyone nervously looked at it, it suddenly trembled and slowly poked out its knuckles again at the sage standing not far from the front.

"......" Henry did not move, looking at it calmly.

Whether this is the creature before it dies, the regret of not being able to reproduce the next generation, or whether it is just the remnants of the magic that prompt the instinctive desire to attack, they don't know.

Even if you are a sage or a doctor, there is still a limit to what you can answer.

They just watched it quietly.

"Click—" Come fast, go fast. The cost of rapid evolution was revealed after losing its magic as maintenance, and the surface of its body began to have a texture like weathered stone, and the flesh and bodily fluids inside turned completely gray-black and lifeless.

"Whew, whew, whew—ha-" Edge, unaware that he had been holding his breath, suddenly gasped loudly in the distance, and then sat down on the ground sweating profusely.

"Wow, knot, it's over?" Caleva let out another fuss exclamation, Mira gave him a blank look, and Aya chuckled quietly as she looked at the tall young man covering her mouth.

Lulu grabbed the bow and slowly walked to the sage's side, looking at the dead tail next to her, and suddenly raised her head to look at the sage.

"Mouth class (this). ”

"Taberu?" She asked solemnly, judging by the purity of her expression.

This is a beautiful little girl.

Seriously.

"It's going to have diarrhea. The sage shrugged, then pulled Kramer back into the scabbard.
