Chapter 5: Life
Rick came out of the bath early, put on clean clothes, yawned and walked to his room, ready to catch up on sleep. He passed in the hallway by Captain Felena and the ship's owner, Lofes, who were talking, and heard their conversation.
"It's a long way off, and there's no way to determine where you are......" Captain Felena whispered. It's a big trouble that there are no stars in this area.
"Let's see if we can find the comms, if not......" Lord's Lopis whispered.
"I still haven't ...... at all."
"In that case, you can only go ......."
Rick was sleepy. He walked over and went to sleep as he had planned. What their conversation meant, he didn't know until he woke up.
On a fishing boat with limited space, each person's bed is just a rectangular hole in the wall, just the right size for a person to lie in and stretch their legs and hands without being able to sit up. When he woke up and opened his eyes, he saw the bed board in front of him, and moved his body to get up.
Sick saw Seren, with his back to the wall, folding his cloak into a cushion and dozing off on it. He bent his legs, one leg upright and the other leg flat, folded his hands on the knee of the upright leg, and rested his forehead on his arm with his head down. Chick could only see the back of his head.
Nick had the feeling that since he got on the boat, he had been sticking to him in every possible way. It was true that Seren was the only person he knew on the ship, but he still thought that Serene should be a more adaptable person, and would not stick to acquaintances as soon as he arrived in an unfamiliar environment.
With a deep sigh, he crouched down next to Seren, put his hand on Seren's arm and shook him awake, "I'm going to go up to the deck to see, do you want to come along, or do you want to sleep in my bed?"
Seren's head was raised, his eyes widened, and he immediately replied, "I'm going to follow!"
"Yes, yesβ" Rick clutched at a mess of hair, unaccustomed to it. He opened the drawer under the bed and took his things, and after arranging all the accessories, he took a knight to the deck for a walk like a dog.
Rick reached the doorway to the deck and looked out to see that the sky was not the right color. The color of the sky is not the usual reddish and yellow, but purple. He went up to the deck and looked out and saw many plants sticking out of the sea that looked like huge hooks, and the tips of the hooks had pear-shaped fruits that glowed with a delicious yellow light, just high enough to reach out.
"Don't touch those plants!" Standing on the bow floor ten meters above the main deck, the shipowner, Lofes shouted to the Seals, "That fruit is bait, and if you touch it, you will be hooked!"
It's almost time to release the ropes, and there is one of these plants standing almost every square meter of the sea. If it weren't for the protection of the paddle wheel with a magical wall, it would have been entangled and unable to move. As for avoiding these things and letting the main rope out, it is simply impossible. There should be no way to do this rope release operation. Xi Ke felt that he should go to the bait Chang'an Paite to talk about it.
While he was still trying to find someone, Captain Felena jumped over the railing from the bow of the ship onto the main deck, walked up to the front of Rick, and said, "The rope release operation has been cancelled, and the mage will meet in the chart room. γ
"Yes!"

Nick went to the chart room, and Seren followed. This room doesn't usually come in. Next to the door and on the left hand wall after entering the room are filing cabinets, and on the right wall are huge charts. Directly ahead is a window facing the bow deck. In the middle of the room is a four-meter-long wooden table. The space on the table was filled with just one magic weapon. It was a hemispherical transparent crystal dome with a hemispherical map that mimicked the landscape, and at the highest point of the map was a model of the Murphy about a centimeter in size, shaking in the realistic ocean. Originally, the hemispherical map would have simulated the environment around the Merger, including the ocean, the sunball, and even the brilliant fish, as if the entire place where the ship was located was put into a crystal cover. But now most of the places have collapsed into colored smoke, spinning aimlessly, indicating that there is no way to show what those places look like.
Nick, Chief Navigator Felena, and Chief Engineer Carlo entered. Chief Engineer Carlo walked over to the table, propped his hands on the table, and looked at the crystal cover with a sad face.
"Lord Lopis says he's not been here either. Captain Felena said. She walked over to a low circle chair at the table and sat in. Everyone else was standing.
Captain Felena explained the situation to Syck: "We were lost, last night's storm knocked us off the standard course, and now we have no idea where we are. γ
"Torrents don't usually displace ships, do they?" said the bait Chang'anpaite. It was only now that Xi Ke discovered that the bait Chang'an Paite was also there, and he was standing in front of the chart. Xi Ke had just seen the chart, but he didn't see the bait Chang'an Pater.
Captain Felena said, "Not usually. It may have been thrown into an undercurrent, or a storm riding a tornado...... It's useless to discuss the reasons now, but in any case, we did have a significant shift. We must have been far from the usual area of operation, where there were no maritime police posts, no guide waves from ports or supply depots, and no signals from other vessels. γ
Xike silently glanced at Seren, who couldn't figure out what it meant, and smiled back.
Captain Felena said, "I want you to use all your spells to find any clues that will help us to determine our coordinates. I don't know what you do, so I won't give you detailed instructions. You must know that this is an emergency, and you must take out the treasure of the pressure box. Whether it's landmarks, traces of a boat passing by, anything you find has to report to me. Navigator Felena clasped her head in her hands, her fingers digging into her hair, revealing a weakness she would never show in front of a fisherman: "Start food control now, that's all." Disband. γ
"Do you have any plans?" asked Chief Engineer Carlo. He pointed to the crystal shield and said, "This is a very expensive magic weapon, and it has become like this, and the distribution of magic energy around here is unusual. γ
"I can only do my best. Rick said. He led Seren.

Half an hour later, Rick gathered all the props he needed and sat down on the upper deck. He unfolded a large sheet of paper, pressed the four corners with pots and pans, and drew intricate patterns on it with the magic ink of the haode. He draws seagulls and waves all around, around a paddle steamer in the center of the picture, with a circle of magic symbols on the outside. Then he took a small pair of scissors, and with a click, he cut up a handful of hair from the comb and placed it on the paddle steamer pattern.
Xike is not an art professional, and his paintings are not pretty, but in short, the outline is roughly correct, and it is good to see what it is. Even if the seagulls can't seem to fly, the waves look like octopus feet, and the paddle steamer looks like a waterwheel, it doesn't matter, the spell can run anyway.
Seren sat and watched the whole time, and when Syk cut his hair, apparently preparing the materials for the spell, Seren spoke, "I haven't seen you use this kind of spell. This is a clear difference from Soni spells, and even the layman can see it.
Tuck tlucked the hair with his fingertips, "You haven't seen many of my spell casters. He made five complex gestures with both hands. A puff of white smoke rose from the center of the paper, as if opening the door of the birdcage, and hundreds of seagulls rushed out of the smoke, flew straight into the sky, spun around, and then scattered in all directions.
Without warning of this, Serene reflexively protected his head as the seagulls rushed out, and waited until they were all flying high in the air before lowering his hands and saying, "I really haven't seen it, you didn't use the sacrificial knife to cast a spell. γ
"I'm working on spells from other schools. Rick clapped his hands and stood up, watching the seagulls fly away with satisfaction.
"Which school?" Seren, who regretted it as soon as he asked.
Xi Ke began to recite a long list of the names of the spell schools, and he had not finished memorizing four of them. Serian had to interrupt him, "I know you've worked hard, that's enough. γ
Cheek stopped reciting and raised his eyebrows, "I've always been very diligent. None of the books he brought aboard were entertaining, they were all spell books that he had carefully selected and that were worth reading.
Seren's voice became hoarse because of his emotions at this time: "You, have you thought about the future?"
"What kind of future?" asked Rick rhetorically. His voice was also hoarse, but the reason for the hoarseness was different from Seren's, and it had something to do with the waves he had drenched all night before.
Seren's body shrunk slightly, hugging one knee: "It's like what I'm going to do in the future, what dreams I have. Do you really want to be like this, do you want to go on like this until you get old?"
Nick replied very quickly and categorically, "No, I didn't think about it. γ
"But you're serious about living. Serenne said. From studying this matter, it can be seen how serious Xi Ke is in living.
"Thinking about those things is not the same thing as living seriously. Xi Ke smiled bitterly and raised his eyebrows, but he couldn't understand that Weishenme had to think about those things if he was serious about living: "The matter of living itself doesn't need to be thought about at all. If you go and give the tail of the brilliant fish once, you can see that they are very serious when they struggle, but they don't think about dreams and futures. γ
Serian touched his chin and noticed that a mustache had popped out: "In other words, living is an unthought action?"
"You're thinking too much, or should I say I'm thinking too little? Xi Ke crouched down and rolled up the paper, "Let's put it this way, when I was still in the Dark Academy, I didn't even know if I would be alive tomorrow, and I didn't even think about the future. γ
"I feel like people like me have nowhere to go if they don't move forward. Seren's voice was softer, and he said, "But I also wonder if I want to move forward like this, which I have no choice but to do. γ
Not knowing Weishenme, what Seren said now made Xike feel anxious, as if the honeycomb in his heart had been poked. He thought about it for a while before he figured out that it was weishenme. Syk raised his voice and said to Seren, who was staring at him wide-eyed, "It's useless for you to tell me this kind of thing here!
Locke tucked the roll of paper under his arm, turned around angrily, and went downstairs into the cabin. He heard Seren's voice behind him, and he seemed to have bumped into someone: "Sorry, Master Ampaert! Ah, Rick, wait!"
Syk stopped where he was about to enter the lower cabin, allowing Serian to catch up with him. Syk turned on the spot and watched as Seren snapped two steps ahead of him, blinking at him with innocent and somewhat flustered eyes.
"Listen, I'll just say it once. Tick pointed a finger at Seren's chest and said, "From my point of view, no matter how hard you are hit by the failure of your mission, you are lucky enough to have someone to feel guilty about!"
Obviously, Serian didn't know how much taller and stronger he was than Xike, and he was five years older than Xike, but now Serian shrunk his neck, but he looked like a child who had been scolded by an adult. Seeing that Seren was at a loss, Rick tapped a paper roll on Seren's head, and asked with a flat mouth, "It's time for me to eat, do you want to come?"
"Yes!" Serian replied immediately.
Rick shrugged his shoulders, tucked the paper roll back under his armpit, and turned to start.
Seren, really, is a person who is very afraid of loneliness.
