Section XXVII Rear

Few people have elaborated on Thomas's strategy in this pursuit, because it seemed to them to be a matter of course and course. But true military men often praise it and see it as the best example of the combination of courage and resourcefulness. The pursuit consisted of a series of smaller battles, with Thomas winning eight battles and eventually annihilating the Paro people.

The second battle that led directly to the rout of Paro's army was a classic night raid. After the death of General Rudolph, the Paro army was eventually attacked by Thomas due to lax security, and the headquarters was besieged and routed. This great victory frightened the Paro army, and it only took Thomas to wave the Flying Serpent banner and the Paro army immediately scattered like frightened grouse.

In fact, it wasn't until after this battle that the world really understood Thomas's ambitions. The so-called "stuck time tactics" are just a front, at best a backup strategy. Thomas's real goal is to rely on his army of less than 10,000 people to defeat Paro's entire army in one fell swoop, recover the whole of Casilos, and thus establish a great achievement that has never been done before. Prior to this, many people had compared Thomas to the ancient name, but it seems that his ambition was to surpass all the ancients.

Looking through Thomas's past achievements, many people think that he is characterized by prudence, calculating, and courage. But this time Thomas proved that he had all the qualities needed for a great general, and not just one or two. He is a fox when he needs to be a fox, he is a lion when he needs to be a lion, and he is a hungry wolf when he needs to be a hungry wolf. After the night attack, Thomas urged his men without mercy to force the march at an astonishing speed, closely pursuing the remnants of the Paro army, and every subsequent battle ended with his overwhelming superiority.

Thomas's army was rapidly expanded. His victory has shaken the whole of Casillos, and many of the remnants of the Cassilos Rebellion, which had been defeated and suppressed by the Paro people, have joined the Flying Serpent banner. Ten days later, Thomas reached the outskirts of Flors and marched his troops towards the lost royal city. However, the Paro people have long since lost the confidence to continue to hold on. They retreated ahead of schedule, and in order to stop Thomas, they burned the famous city before leaving, and thousands of civilians died in the fire. It was a dangerous tactic, and they did achieve their goal of delaying Thomas for two whole days, but it also left Cassilos and Paro with an irresolvable feud......

—Excerpt from "History of the Styghian Wars"

"Urgent, urgent, urgent!" the herald, or messenger, waved the letter in his hand, and his face was full of joy, and rushed all the way to the deepest part of the palace. It was the place where His Majesty Rangier lay ill, and it was also the place where the princess lived her daily life.

Now everyone in the city knows that His Majesty Langier's body is "unwell". Of course, this "discomfort" is only a subtle statement, a kind of word play between the aristocracy—Rangier is sick and old and decrepit, and this time he is afraid that he will be favored by the gods of nature.

But then again, all of this is something that everyone is aware of, so it didn't cause any big waves. When His Majesty Rangier chose to let Princess Irina rule instead of making a comeback herself, everyone knew that the king's health was not optimistic.

The messenger rushed all the way to the most central area before being blocked by a few guards.

"There's a royal council going on inside, and you have to wait here. ”

One of the guards walked into the room and made a gesture as he came out. Several men searched the messenger and let him in.

The furnishings in the rooms are much simpler than one might expect, with little furniture. A large conference table with chairs owned by each minister on the edge of the table. On the bookshelf next to it, there are various reports and documents. A clerk stood nearby, recording without saying a word. A little farther away there is a nondescript, slightly strange screen. Princess Irina and her five ministers (i.e., the "tentatives") looked at the messenger who entered through the main entrance.

"What's the urgency?" someone asked.

"Letter from General Thomas...... General Thomas defeated Paro's main force under the city of Drake, killed the general of Paro, Duke Rudolph, on the battlefield, and annihilated at least sixty percent of the enemy's army! ”

The messenger said as he presented the letter. Princess Irina read it first, then circulated the letter to her ministers.

A few coughs came from behind the screen. The messenger looked at the screen in amazement, could it be that there was someone eavesdropping behind it?, but all the nobles who attended the royal council, including Princess Irina herself, looked as usual and did not seem to hear this strange sound at all, and he could only suppress the doubts in his heart.

The letter was finally passed to the "interim" Foreign Secretary Landwin. When the others received the letter, most of them were surprised and delighted, and even Landwin's fingers began to tremble when he began to read it.

“...... The losses of the troops were quite large, but the courage of the soldiers was usable...... Giving up the Drake ...... Pursue the defeated army of Paro......" He whispered a few words, then wiped his eyes, as if not believing what he was seeing.

"Your Highness, this letter may be fake!" Landwin said suddenly.

"Fake, but it does have Thomas's stamp on it! And you look at the attached documents...... It was Thomas's list of knights. Several of them are militiamen...... Only Thomas would do that, wouldn't he?"

But the letter says something impossible. Thomas actually defeated the main force of Paro in the defense of Drake City, and killed the enemy commander, and he is still ...... Pursuit?, all the lords present, do not forget the strategy that General Thomas has told here in the first place. I think it's most likely a trick of the Paro people. They may ...... Possible...... Captured Master Thomas's ...... Seal!" Landwin resisted.

But his words were not shared by others. Princess Irina took the letter from Randwin's hand.

"If it was a ploy on the part of the Paro, then what were they doing it for?" asked the princess gently.

"Probably to prevent us from reinforcing Thomas ......"

"We can't reinforce Thomas right now! unless we send all the Pegasus Knights. Someone said in a mocking tone.

"Or to let our guard down so that they can launch a surprise attack. ”

"Where did they raid from?"

"Anyway, it shouldn't be true...... Attention, this is not Thomas's handwriting!"

"Lord Duke, haven't you read the letter, General Thomas has been wounded, so this letter was ghostwritten by one of his men. ”

"I don't believe it's true anyway!" Landwin jumped up and roared loudly. "Thomas can't ......"

"Lord Duke, I think you need to get out of the way and calm down for a while. Irina said suddenly. Landwin froze there for a moment, motionless. After a few seconds, he read from Irina's eyes that the sentence was not a joke. He hesitated, not knowing what he should do.

"Guards!Duke Landwyn is tired, let him go back to his room and rest first. The other man beckoned outside. The two guards entered, they looked at Princess Irina first, and after receiving an affirmative answer from the princess's face, one of them helped Landwin out of the room.

"Our General Thomas is really in trouble, canonizing so many knights in one go. Probably all the surviving trainee knights have been promoted to knights. There are also several militias. The question of their territory will give us a headache. Watching Landwin leave, the others all smiled knowingly.

"Your Highness Princess, you have won this war. Even if you have a celebratory parade right now. One of the ministers stood up and said to the princess.

"Inform the front line of this news immediately! "It was suggested.

"General Thomas...... It's really amazing, and it's getting stronger!"

......

"General Thomas, it's really powerful, old and strong!"

In fact, more than 20 days ago, someone had already issued such an exclamation. It was none other than Rook. Luke let out a "tsk" exclamation as he flipped through the secret letter in his hand over and over again. "First of all, there was a one-on-one heads-up, and then in the outnumbered city defense battle, the Paro army was defeated in one fell swoop, and the commander of the Paro army Rudolph was killed. ”

That being said, there was no trace of emotion or adoration in Luke's expression.

"What shall we do, uncle, now that the Paros have been defeated by Thomas......" Ryan walked restlessly around the room. The Paro people are gone, and now it's Thomas who stands in his way!

They are now in the governor's mansion in a small town. The city wasn't too far from Drake's Castle, so they got the ending of the siege.

He stabbed Thomas, and Thomas would not forgive him...... Oh shit! It's better to fight anyone than to fight Thomas!...... old man I don't know how many unfortunate troops dared to stand in front of him, and tried to stop him with their arms in the chariot, but in the end, they were all turned into a small text in the historical record.

Ryan knew very well that if he fought Thomas, he would face an unwinnable war. A considerable number of Casilos' lords were reluctant to follow him, and even immediately defected to Thomas. Even if this kind of thing doesn't happen, and the two sides fight it out on the battlefield, he will definitely not be able to beat Thomas. Ryan knew this.

"I didn't do anything. Nephew, has your mind changed?"

"What's in mind?"

"Of course, it's about your plan to marry a princess!" Luke asked casually.

"Uncle, how are we going to marry the princess now? Thomas has won! He has eliminated the Paroes! Even if he hasn't been wiped out yet, it's not much worse! When he finishes cleaning up the Paros and turns around and discovers my betrayal, then we ......."

"Ha Lu Ha...... ......Haha "Dear nephew, leave this alone for now. I ask you, why should we go to war with Thomas, and if we can't win—as you say, Thomas can crush us to death with two fingers—then why fight him?"

"Why ......," Ryan couldn't figure out what his uncle meant for a moment.
