Volume 1: The Scourge of Witchcraft and the Enemies of a Thousand Years Ago Chapter 50: Frey Wagbine and the Perpetual House
"Wagbyne?" Riel felt familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had heard it.
"I remember that one of the girls who was identified before us seemed to have the surname Wagbein. "Allen's memory is obviously much better than Riel's.
"Oh! It's the girl who laughs and her eyes are crooked. After Allen said this, Riel also remembered.
"I think you're talking about Freya, she's my sister. Frey said.
"Hi Senior, my name is Alan Paterner, and this is Rare Connor and Alyssa Dark. Alan held out his hand as he introduced.
"Your last name doesn't sound familiar, and it doesn't sound like you're from a nearby city. But since you've been identified so early, you must all have quite a strong family background, right?" Frey asked tentatively as he stretched out his hand, his tone still sounding cold and even a little disdainful.
"Sorry, this may be about to disappoint you. Alan said lightly, "We are from Beya, a small and extremely remote town. β
"Oh, then why are you so high in the order of identification?" Frey was a little surprised, and his hand stopped in mid-air.
"It's all in his light. Alan pouted at Ryernunu, "Because he is a boiling physique, Professor Stubone made an exception for us to do the appraisal together. β
"Oh, boiling physique. This kind of constitution is indeed rare. Frey's hand turned to Rare.
Riel didn't want to shake his hand, because Alan had already put his hand out, and he pretended not to see it, which was rude.
Thankfully, Alan didn't care about that, withdrew his hand, and gave Riel a look that motioned for him to shake hands with Frey.
After Reluctantly shaking his hand, Frey reached out to Allen again, "Please don't mind, it's just a little bit of my personal habit." β
Alan was a little surprised, and didn't understand. He thought that Frey refused to shake hands with him because he looked down on his origins, and he didn't expect him to reach out again.
"I never care if I am noble or not, I only look at whether I have the ability. Frey nodded at him. Knowing that they weren't relying on family power, his tone sounded much better now than it had just been.
Alan nodded in understanding.
Frey looked at Alyssa, and saw that she had kept her head down and had no intention of shaking hands, so he said, "Please wait a moment, in principle the first people who need to visit the school will need to be received by me, but there are two others who have arrived before you, and they will arrive later." β
"Good. Allen said.
As soon as Frey's words fell, a sweet voice was heard from their north: "Brother." β
Several of them turned their heads to see that it was Freya walking this way. Cynthia was also with her.
"Oh, I didn't expect you two to be quite fast. In the past, when you asked me to wait, it would have been at least an hour, but this time I thought it would take a long time. Frey said with a smile.
"Brother, stop making fun of me. Freya habitually lowered her head, her face seemed to turn red again, "It's just a simple make-up, it's different from when you go out before." β
"It's the first time I've seen someone so shy. Riel whispered to Alan, "It's easier to be shy than Alyssa." β
"Let me introduce you to my sister, Freya Matilda Wagbin, the future healer. Frey said.
Freya glanced at them, smiled politely, nodded and lowered her head.
"And this young lady is the second daughter of the Winslow family......"
"I'm Cynthia Natalia Winslow. Frey just wanted to introduce Cynthia, but Cynthia interrupted her, and she opened her mouth to introduce herself.
Frey looked a little embarrassed and smiled helplessly.
"Nice to meet you, Alan Paterna. Cynthia took the initiative to reach out to Alan and said.
This came as a surprise to Allen, as Cynthia wasn't there when they introduced themselves just now.
"Oh, you've heard of each other for a long time?" said Frey, who was also a little surprised.
"Hmm. Cynthia replied simply.
Alan didn't know how to answer, he wanted to say that he didn't know, but it was not good for Cynthia to get off the stage, so he had to shake hands with Cynthia. But the moment Eren touched Cynthia's skin, a chill hit her, making Eren shiver - her hands were too cold. Although it is already September, it is a sunny day today, and the temperature is not too low.
Alan was a little confused and looked at Cynthia and found that Cynthia was also looking at him.
Looking at each other, Alan suddenly felt that there was too much in her eyes. This look is a little different from the first time I saw her, mixed with a little coldness in calmness, as if it can easily reject people thousands of miles away, but it seems to be full of expectations. The look was so complicated that Alan didn't want to blink the moment he took it.
A storm welled up in Allen's heartβthe look felt familiar to him, as if he had seen it somewhere.
Time seemed to stand still in that moment.
"Well, that's the end of the gossip. Frey looked a little upset and parted their hands.
Alyssa also tugged hard at the corner of Alan's clothes.
Only then did Alan realize that since he was in a daze, the hand had been together for a while. He quickly nodded embarrassedly and took his hand away.
Cynthia didn't seem to care, though.
"I'm going to show you around the school. With that, Frey led the way into the arch. Alan also heard him whisper to a few other people who also had ribbons on their arms, asking them to receive the new students who came here next.
Freya and Cynthia followed side by side, followed by Ellen, Riel, and Alyssa.
The space inside the hall was quite large, a bit beyond Allen's imagination, and it was more than enough to accommodate at least five hundred people to practice magic in it at the same time. Although there are no windows on all sides except for the doors, the ceiling is densely packed with magic lamps, illuminating the inside as bright as the outside. The arch directly opposite them had light shining in from the outside, and it seemed that the hall and the minaret behind it were not closely connected.
Frey spoke, "This is the general classroom, where you'll be going to have classes in a day's time. All of our indoor general classes are done here. β
"We, are we all in the same department?" asked Allen.
"That's right. Although our professors are different, the general classrooms are all here. Frey explained.
Alan nodded.
"If you go east from the left and right doors, or just go out through the front door, you will see the twin spires where we are studying our major course. Frey continued as he walked forward, "Of course, this door is much closer, but due to the large number of people in class, this door is usually reserved for ladies to avoid crowding. Boys usually consciously take a long detour through the doors on both sides. β
"It's strange, according to this layout, the road here doesn't seem very complicated, why does Uncle Dean say it's easy to get lost?" Alan was a little puzzled.
By this time they had come to the arch to the east, and when they walked out, Alan found that the general hall and the twin spires were very close to each other. He raised his head and looked up, only to feel that the two towers seemed to be higher, and he couldn't see the tops at all, and a strong sense of oppression came over him.
Between the two towers there is a stone wall connected by four reliefs. The relief is divided into two parts: upper and lower. The top half is engraved with four people that Alan didn't know at all, and their expressions were solemn, making Alan feel that they were sacrosanct. The second half resembles some battle sequences related to the four people.
There is a door on the left and right towers, and Frey said as he walked through the door on the right, "This is the Elemental Classroom, and the tower on the left is where the Space-Time and Medical classes are held. β
Alan was looking at the statues, but Alyssa tugged at him only to find that Frey had already walked in, so she quickly followed.
However, after entering, Alan found that the structure was completely different from what he had thought. He had expected to see a hall like an auditorium, but after walking for a while, they realized that they were still in a long hallway. And this road is not wide, barely enough for two people to walk side by side, and it does not seem to be designed to allow many people to pass together. The magic lamps on the walls were also not very well lit, adding a bit of historical flavor to the already very old looking walls.
Just when Alan was wondering, a bright light suddenly hit ahead.
"It's the end?" Alan thought.
This time, however, he had guessed wrong, and was astonished by what he saw: this time there was indeed a hall in front of him, but there were no tables, chairs, benches, or blackboards or anything like that, only a criss-cross staircase, and a messy set of small doors in the walls around it, which led straight to them. The staircases are also arranged irregularly, some are very short, leading from the floor to some rooms, others are protruding from mid-air, or they are too long to see the end, and what is even more strange is that, unlike ordinary staircases, they are like matchsticks, without any bends, all leading straight to a certain room.
"What a strange construction!" thought Alan.
But before Alan could figure out why he was built like this, he discovered something even stranger: the rooms didn't seem to be fixed...... They seem to be moving slowly!
He rubbed his eyes, thinking it was his own delusion, but he looked at it for a while before he was sure that the rooms were moving slowly, slowly, slowly! They were like bubbles in a bottle, disorganized and irregular. What's even more interesting is that almost all of the stairs change positions as the room moves, and although they are so close to each other that some of them look like they're about to collide, they are all safe in the end.
The only thing that didn't move seemed to be the north and south sides, and the corridor they passed through when they came behind them.
