Chapter 2: The Edge of Life and Death

Alan himself doesn't know how long he cried, but he remembers crying until the end of the day, and he couldn't even shed tears. The excessive sadness and the fact that he hadn't eaten for nearly a day made him collapse and completely fainted.

When he opened his eyes again, it was already dawn. He had been moved into the room and lay on the bed.

By the not-so-bright light of the magic lamp on the table, Alan saw that there were eight people in their room. Cynthia, Cecilis, and Freya slept in the bed, Riel, Frey, and Ian slept on the small couch with Io, and Alyssa lay on his bedside and snooze.

The howls of the werewolves came and went, as if they never stopped.

Alan sat up and rubbed his red and swollen eyes, which were sour and astringent, and it took a while for him to recover.

Outside the window, the lights are bright, and people are constantly holding torches and patrolling the Four Seasons Garden, as if they have not slept all night.

Presumably the same is true on the city walls.

"Are you awake?" Alyssa's voice rang softly.

Allen's movements were already very light, but he didn't expect him to wake up after just moving slightly.

"Uh-huh......" Alan replied softly.

Maybe it was Alyssa who kept him guarded like this and made him feel warm and touched in his heart, and tears poured into his eyes again, but this time he held back.

In order not to worry Alyssa, he shook his head and tried not to think about it.

"Let's eat something then. Alyssa got up and went to the table to bring him two slices of bread and poured him a glass of hot milk, "You haven't eaten in more than a day." ”

The light and shadow intertwined on Alyssa's face, making her expression seem unreal, but even for a moment, Alan could see the haggard on her face.

"Thank you......" Alan took a deep breath, "You can rest too...... You must have not slept all night. ”

With that, he got up and freed up the bed.

"It's okay, I'm not sleepy!" Alyssa said with a hard sigh, "You need to rest more." ”

"You're still the same...... Alan sighed and pushed her to the edge of the bed, "Don't always be stubborn...... You're in a worse state than you were last time...... If you continue like this, your body will not be able to bear it. ”

Remembering the night spent in the wilderness during the triple trial, Alyssa smiled lightly and reluctantly agreed: "That...... I'll just sleep a little bit, and wake me up at any time if anything......"

"Hmm...... You can rest assured. Alan softly agreed.

Alyssa was obviously so tired that she had just fallen asleep as soon as she lay down.

I don't know why, Alyssa slept like this, and Alan instantly seemed to have lost some kind of spiritual support, and a tight string suddenly broke, making the sadness in his heart take the opportunity to run out again.

Tears flowed down his cheeks, and although he didn't make a sound, the sadness in his heart was exactly the same as what he had felt before...... It's just that this time his brain is much clearer, and he is no longer as groggy as he was yesterday, and he only knows how to cry......

It also made him realize that it was all true......

Another flood of memories struck......

I don't know how long he sat like this, but when he finally came to his senses, it was already dawn.

Riel muttered in his sleep, as if he was about to wake up.

"I've caused them too much trouble......" Alan sighed and gently pushed the door open.

He wanted to go out for a walk, and he didn't want his friends to wake up and see him like this.

The campus was already busy, and most of the people looked like they had just woken up, hurrying to the fence to change shifts.

He walked aimlessly, and before he knew it, he was back where he had been lying in a coma yesterday.

The prefect who was now in charge of all affairs was still asleep, and his rough voice rang loudly from the auditorium...... It's just that some of the power of yesterday is missing.

This ruddy-faced middle-aged man is of medium height, with broad and thick shoulders, and two thick mustaches on his lips, giving people a very reliable feeling. Now he was staring at bloodshot eyes, listening carefully to the reports from others.

After standing outside the window and listening for a while, Alan roughly figured out the current situation:

Nearly twenty hours had passed since the MONOCULUS appeared yesterday, and most of the people had died in that catastrophe, and the people were powerless to resist such a large number of unusually strong werewolves, and only a few survivors survived and took refuge here for the time being. There are now about 5,000 people crammed into the castle. In order to allow everyone to have a place to spend the night, all the rooms, including the classrooms, were utilized and roughly allocated on a voluntary basis. Adult men were roughly divided into three groups, taking turns climbing the walls to inspect the campus and keeping the boundaries in check, women and the elderly were assigned to care for infants and the wounded, and students and professors were told to rest in their rooms in case of any unexpected eventuality.

Although this so-called chief is actually just a low-ranking staff member in the Magical Management Society, it has to be said that it is quite remarkable to be able to make such an arrangement in such a short period of time...... Most importantly, his series of arrangements can provide temporary peace of mind to the people who have taken refuge. At the very least, the werewolf army has not been able to break through this ironclad barrier until now, which is already a great success. Another advantage of this enchantment is that outside magic can't penetrate in, so you don't have to worry about a werewolf attacking from the inside like yesterday.

This allowed the people hiding in it to sleep a little more peacefully.

It's just that everyone doesn't know how long this temporary security can last.

After all, unlike these seemingly tireless werewolves, no matter how strong a person's physical strength is, there will be a day when it is exhausted, and the same is true of magic power.

And it's not this that worries Alan the most......

"Sir...... There's something quite tricky...... "A young voice came.

"Just say anything! Every second counts now!"

"Uh...... That's it......" the voice still hesitated, "the food hoarded in this castle...... It's barely enough to last a day......"

Even the man who was called the chief was silent......

This has been the habit of this school for many years...... In order to ensure the freshness of the ingredients, the amount that was stored for three days was only enough for the students to eat, but now so many people are pouring in at once, and the food is consumed so quickly......

The werewolves outside the mountains and the food in the castle were about to run out, which made a sense of despair begin to spread in Allen's heart......

"Krivari...... Hepp ...... And human ......" Alan felt so depressed for the first time, "really...... Are you almost coming to an end......
