Volume 1: The Scourge of Witchcraft and the Enemies of a Thousand Years Ago Chapter 24: The Secret History of the Winslow Family (1)
"How's it going?" asked Arle, as soon as he stepped out of the door with one foot, Alan couldn't wait.
"Uh......" The wind blew Riel a little sober, but opened his mouth, but lowered his head again, hesitating whether to tell the truth.
In fact, Alan was already looking through the window, and Riel's reaction was too unnatural, so whether he said it or not, it was confirming Allen's guess now.
Seeing Riel's expression, Alan immediately understood, it seemed very unsatisfactory. His mood also fell to the bottom in an instant, and he lowered his head and stopped asking.
The rain was still falling, and the three of them walked out of the school gate with umbrellas all the way, and no one spoke.
As they approached the candy house, Alyssa said goodbye to them. She and her grandmother live near here, and there is a sheep intestine path that turns right until it ends.
"Ah...... Well, wait a minute. Alyssa was about to step into the path when Rare suddenly spoke.
"What's the matter?" Alyssa looked back, a little surprised.
"Hmm......" Rare tilted his head unnaturally to the other side, and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Thank you." β
As soon as Alyssa heard this word, she didn't respond very specially, but leaned over and smiled, and said, "See you in the afternoon!" and hurriedly disappeared into the path.
Riel breathed a sigh of relief, as if something had finally been put down, and his brow was not as tight as it had been when he first came out of the exam room.
Alan didn't know what was going on between them, and after repeated questioning, Riel was embarrassed to tell the story of what had happened.
Eren was very happy to hear this, because the knot in Ryel's heart had finally been untied after all this time.
"Hey, I said, don't worry too much about the results of the written test, let it pass the past one, what we need to do now is to try our best to do well in the other two exams!" While Riel was feeling better, Alan quickly comforted him again.
"Hmm...... I'll do my best. Under Allen's repeated persuasion, Rare's expression finally seemed to be less heavy.
The two of them chatted without saying a word, and soon walked to the candy house.
The door was closed, and it seemed that old Adrian had gone home early to prepare lunch for them, and the two of them walked along a small path behind the house into the woods.
Sure enough, as soon as the two of them walked near the old Adrian's house, they smelled a long-lost smell of fish.
The smell of the food seemed to be more healing to Rare than the comfort of others, and it swept away the frustration he had just caused by failing the exam.
They looked in the direction of Old Adrian's house, and saw that the fence wall was clearly visible, and Old Adrian had not placed an enchantment. Looking further into the courtyard, he and Kelly were busy with the midday meal.
There's a lot of naughtiness in Riel's nature. He noticed that old Adrian and Kelly were busy concentrating, and they were still facing away from them, and suddenly pulled Alan who wanted to enter the yard, and came up with a ghost idea.
He motioned for Alan to remain silent, and crept out with him from behind the two men, scaring them a little, and by the way, seeing what old Adrian looked like when he was taken aback.
Alan originally refused, he didn't like pranks as much as Riel, but he couldn't stand Riel's stiffness, so he had to give in.
However, Kelly's reaction puts Rare's plan in ruin.
"Hey, two lads, long time no see!" they had just crept into the yard when Kelly suddenly turned around and greeted them excitedly, and old Adrian looked back at them with a smile on his face, as if he had known they had arrived, which made them both startled.
"Oh! how disgusting!" Surprised by the ease with which the plan was discovered, Riel said with a disappointed face, "How did you know we were coming?
Kelly smiled, pointed to his nose and didn't speak.
"Remember, Mr. Connor, that phantom horses are known for their excellent eyesight, and werewolves have the most sensitive noses and ears on the road. Old Adrian said with a smile as he tapped Riel on the head with his cane.
"Actually, Kelly smelled you when you first stepped into the woods, but you were still a little far from here, and I decided to finish my work before going out to meet you. But after a while Kelly told me that your footsteps should have sounded clearer and clearer, but as you approached the place, they were unexpectedly softer...... I knew right away what was going on - you want a surprise attack from behind, do you? Old Adrian explained it to him in detail and asked, "And...... Did you come up with the idea, Mr. Connor?"
Ryel found that his plan had been completely seen through by old Adrian, and that he had even guessed his idea, and felt that his pride was seriously frustrated, but he didn't want to admit it readily, so he struggled to ask, "Why me and not Ellen?"
"It's simple," old Odrian smiled, "because that's not his style." β
Feeling defeated, Rare squatted down in frustration and tossed over the grilled fish.
Since his reaction was so cute, the other three couldn't help but laugh.
"Kelly, you seem to be in a lot of energy...... How's the leg injury?" asked Allen, holding back his smile and looking at Kelly.
It's just that in just four days, Kelly doesn't look as thin as he used to be, and judging from his actions, the injury on his leg should not be a big problem.
"It's out of the way...... This is all thanks to Mr. Audrian's care. Kelly said gratefully, "We werewolves have wounds that heal faster, and Mr. Adrian still stews game for me every day to replenish my body...... I wasn't used to eating cooked food at first, but I found it to be much easier to digest than raw meat, and I'm trying to get used to it now...... And with the house that Mr. Adrian had built for me, I finally didn't have to get in the rain anymore. β
"He has to sleep until three o'clock every day for the past few days before waking up, and it seems that he was really tired enough before. "At first, Arthur was reluctant to sleep next door, but the past two days have gotten better...... Probably because the smell was too strong when he first came, haha. Old Adrian quipped.
"Uh...... I'll go to the shower as often as you tell me......" Kelly looked slightly embarrassed, as if he didn't quite understand that old Adrian was joking. However, Alan knew that it was not a big problem, and it would be a few days before he would get used to the old Adrian's way of speaking.
"By the way, Alan, did you go well on your exam today?" asked Old Adrian.
"Uh...... I feel like it's going well, but ......" Alan looked at Riel who was salivating over the grilled fish, leaned closer to Old Adrian and whispered, "Please don't mention this matter to Riel for a while, he seems to have done a bad job in the exam, and he was very depressed before he came here, and it finally made him feel better." β
Old Adrian smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Honestly, he can't be blamed for that...... Originally, he was not very interested in the things in the textbooks, and the examiner who came to our school this time had a bad temper, so I think it had a great impact on him. Allen added.
"Oh, how bad?" said old Adrian.
"Pretty poor...... It doesn't match her outfit at all. "She looks quite young, I don't think she is more than twenty years old, and she dresses very gorgeously, as if she came from a well-bred family, but she seems very irritable and aggressive, because there is something very serious wrong with the papers, and she starts yelling before she gets out of the carriage, without giving Mr. Labredo a chance to defend herself." β
"Yo, she likes to yell, so her temper isn't very good...... What's your name?"
"Let me think about it...... Uh, it seems to be...... Eve...... Eve Winslow. β
"Ha, Winslow!" Old Adrian sneered, and glanced elsewhere, as if remembering something, "Winslow...... I really didn't expect to hear this surname from such a distance. β
"You know her?" Alan startled.
"No, I don't have any impression of her...... I just know some other people in their family. β
"Do they have a lot of family?"
"It's a lot...... The Winslow family has lived in Krivari for generations, and is a magical family with a long history, if not hundreds of years...... Most of the people in their family work for the Magical Management Society, and they are the kind of people at the top...... Do you understand what I say?" said Old Adrian's voice a little faster.
"Uh...... This is the first time I've heard about their family, but I've heard Uncle Dean say that the Magical Management Society is the most powerful body in the continent, and all the rules and regulations that are now in force are made by it. β
"That's right, that is, all the laws and regulations that people are now obeyingβthose selfish rules, were made by the Winslow family. β
"Selfish?" Alan asked, seeing the change in old Adrian's mood, cautiously, "uh...... You don't seem to have a good impression of their family?"
Old Adrian himself realized that he didn't answer Allen's question directly, paced back and forth slowly, and then said, "If I want to understand all this, I have to tell you a little bit of history." β
