The midyear festival, commonly known as the Ghost Festival, is called Obon in Buddhism in the seventh and a half months. On the fifteenth day of the first month, the Han nationality called the Shangyuan Festival, which is to celebrate the Lantern Festival, which has been in ancient times; On July 15, the Han nationality called the Zhongyuan Festival, sacrificing to the ancestors; On October 15, the Han nationality called the Xia Yuan Festival, which is to eat cold food and commemorate the sages. The festival falls on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and partly on the 14th day of the seventh month. It was originally a small autumn, and a number of crops were ripe, and the people routinely worshiped their ancestors, and made offerings such as new rice to report the autumn to their ancestors. Therefore, every mid-year festival, every family worships their ancestors, and when they make offerings, they perform rituals. On July 15, go to the grave to sweep the grave and worship the ancestors. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Taoism set three meetings and five wax days, of which July 7 is the moral wax, and it is the day when the middle meeting is the fixed Taoist people to the governance center to accept the examination. This ancestor worship date in July was later fixed on this day as Taoism fixed the birthday of Zhongyuan Diguan and the corresponding date of worship on July 15. It is a festival centered on the worship of ghosts, and it is one of the largest sacrificial festivals in China. Legend has it that on that day, the gates of hell were opened, and the ghosts of the underworld would be released. Spirits of descendants and descendants go home to receive incense offerings, while ownerless souls wander about, wandering wherever they can find something to eat. Therefore, in July, people hold "Pudu" and "almsgiving" almsgiving activities such as food sacrifices and chanting sutras, so as to prevent the lonely souls and wild ghosts from causing disasters to the world, or pray for ghosts to help remove epidemics and bless the safety of their homes. Therefore, in some areas, there will be a custom of Pudu on this day, called "Zhongyuan Pudu", and later it developed into a grand festival, called "Yulan Festival" and "Yulan Shenghui". There is a so-called "three yuan" in China, which refers to the fifteenth day of the first month, the middle yuan of July 15 and the fifteenth day of October. In addition to the Zhongyuan and Obon festivals, the folk also call July 15 as the Ghost Festival, which is combined with Qingming and October 1 as the Three Ghost Festival. The folk Ghost Festival has a close relationship with the Buddhist Midyear Festival and Obon Festival, and has its own unique color. In this way, the three streams of monks, Taoists and laymen are integrated, constituting a rich festival and customs on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month.
