Chapter Ninety-Seven: The Corpse
Updated: 2012-08-21
It was nearly noon, the hottest time of the day. The radiation clouds from the sky pierced through the sunlight on the ground with a scorching heat, and even with the protective clothing on the body, I still felt an unnatural stinging pain. It was a sign that the strong radiation had penetrated the protective suit and irritated the skin, and the entire caravan was probably aware of the danger except for Zero, who was unaware.
Moni squeezed her body even further behind Zero, her slightly thin body feeling more clearly that the pervasive radiation of the earth was infecting her. And at such a hot moment, even through clothes, Zero still maintains a normal temperature. Moni sticks to his body, which can somewhat lower the rising body temperature.
Another source of deterioration came from Lala overhead, whose round body was looming listlessly over Moni's head. The body temperature of alien beasts is lower than that of humans, which is somewhat related to the habit of gold swallowing insects to live underground for many years. Now, it acts as a hat for Moni, largely avoiding direct sunlight on Moni.
While navigating around most of the ruins of Morin City, Lala's shrugging body suddenly seemed to be stimulated by something, and suddenly tensed up. Moni immediately noticed something was wrong, and subconsciously reached out to hug Lala.
When he took the beast down, his round eyes were full of doubt, and the diamond-shaped coat of arms on his forehead was emitting a strange green light. Moni suddenly felt strange, but after a short time, the green light on Lala's forehead disappeared, and the little beast changed back to its lazy appearance.
"What's wrong?" asked Zero, sensing movement behind him, as he drove the car.
Moni shook her head and said, "Nothing. ”
After a small episode, the caravan had bypassed the city of Morin and began to take the road to Phoenix. The road surface has basically improved, which has made everyone breathe a sigh of relief, and it seems that even the temperature of the earth is not so high.
Moni was still holding Zero and whispered, "I wonder how Behemoth is doing now?"
Zero didn't reveal the situation of the behemoth to Campber, so Campbell only thought that Behemoth had disappeared in the chaos of Titan City and was missing. Listening to Moni now, Zero's eyes reflected the seemingly endless highway and thousands of miles of clouds, and said lightly: "It should go back to its hometown, after all, it doesn't belong here." ”
"But does it recognize the way back?" asked Moni again.
On the empty road, there was silence. Zero doesn't know the answer to this question.
In the city of Morin, which is gradually moving away, there are a pair of eyes reflecting the image of the caravan.
The building, which once served as an office space, now has a sloping section on the fifteenth floor. The cement and steel bars exposed to the air in the cross-sections are charred black, and if you look closely, you can find hexagonal black crystals on their surfaces. It was the mark left by the rubbing of a hot object, and there were many scars like this in the city of Morin.
The eyes appeared in the window of the fourteenth floor, and the body in the shadows was faintly humanoid, which made a blade mantis perched on the opposite building very greedy.
The Blade Mantis is an insect-like mutant beast with a body hundreds of times the size of its ancestors and the size of a hemp eagle. Its turquoise shell has a metallic sheen, and in fact this creature armor is incredibly tough, allowing the Blade Mantis to withstand most heavy attacks. Its arms are scimitar-shaped, and the other side of the blade is covered with dense and irregular sharp teeth, which allow the praying mantis to slice through the surface of many living and inorganic objects.
This mutant beast likes to live in high places, like this knife bee mantis hiding in fifteen-story buildings. On weekdays, they mostly prey on other mutant beasts, and even living corpses as food. But today, the silhouette of the human body on the opposite floor allows the knife bee mantis to change its taste.
Its crimson-red compound eyes locked onto its target in the opposite building, and a pair of hard wings spread out behind it, swooping out of its hideout. A turquoise trail swept through the air, and the blade mantis burrowed straight into the window.
The next moment, the roar of a beast sounded in the window. I saw that in the dark space, the blue and green knife light of the mantis kept flashing, and more of it was blue-purple electric light.
The battle ended in less than a minute, and many of the mutant creatures hiding near the building silently watched the battle until the shattered body of the Blade Mantis was thrown out of the window, and almost all the mutants who wanted to make a bargain dismissed the idea.
With a bang, the corpse of the praying mantis hanging on the edge of the window fell to the ground with the sudden shattering of the outer wall of the window. A huge figure flew out of the building, and at this moment, the mutant beasts saw a new species that had never appeared in Morin City. The strange creatures with the head of a lion, eagle wings, and humanoid bodies made these mutants instinctively terrified.
And so, they retreated into the deepest shadows.
The strange creature flying over the city was in full view of a pair of wise eyes. The owner of the eyes is a giant wolf the size of a calf, covered in snow-white fur that is tens of centimeters long, making it look like a nobleman. The giant white wolf was lying on the roof of a gymnasium in the city, and through the pieces of glass under it that provided natural light, there were many giant wolves in the gymnasium.
Although they don't have the noble white hair of this wolf, judging by their size, these wolves should all belong to the same race.
Retracting his gaze from the strange creature in the distance, the white wolf looked at the entrance to the gymnasium. A dozen giant wolves were rushing towards the streets of the city, and the giant wolves with gray, black, or light brown fur were covered with patches of striking blood. The bloodstains don't belong to them, they belong to another creature.
Those creatures occupy most of the earth, and they are human beings who claim to be the chief of all things.
But now, there are several human corpses that have been dragged back to the gymnasium by the giant wolves. In today's world where food is hard to find, these carcasses will serve as food for cubs and adult male wolves. At least under the leadership of its wise Brian, no member of its clan has dared to break this rule.
On the highway, Zero Dangxing saw that there seemed to be an obstacle ahead.
The obstacle was two armored combat vehicles, as well as a dozen corpses outside the vehicle and on the road. The corpses were dressed as soldiers, and the armored vehicles and the corpses' camouflage combat uniforms had a phoenix coat of arms on them.
The caravan stopped, as Campbell recognized that both the chariot and the soldiers belonged to Phoenix. The coat of arms had already revealed their identity, and not far from the road, obstacles like this one appeared one after another, stretching to the end of the road.
With just one glance, Zero knew that there were at least a hundred corpses lying on this stretch of road. Looking at the deep marks on the armored vehicle, God knows what giant mutant beast attacked this Phoenix army.
