Chapter 26: The Dragon's Sleep Dangong

The so-called Sleeping Dangong, as the name suggests, is a kind of exercise practiced by Taoist monks while sleeping. It is said that this dragon sleeping pill gong is a line of kung fu passed down by Chen Lu's ancestors, and it also belongs to the inheritance of Wenshi and the Hidden Immortal School.

The dragon sleeping pill gong sounds very mysterious, but in fact there are only three mantras.

The first mantra of the dragon sleeping pill is: "The heart is dependent on each other, and the gods fix the void." ”

This is done by concentrating your thoughts on a space with a diameter of one inch below the tip of your nose and above your lips. The "void outside the body" often referred to by Taoists refers to this area, which is also a bridge between the Danjia and the northern Qing cultivation method and the cultivators themselves. There are even some Taoist sects that call this area "the entrance to the door" and "the door of the Xuanjiao".

According to the "knowledge points" that Qi Huan has mastered, the real "entrance trick" is not here at all. The so-called Danjing is like a sea, and the scrolls are all talking about "a trick at the entrance", but where is the "trick at the entrance", no one is willing to reveal it, which is the same as the "unspeakable" of Zen Buddhism.

Although this piece of emptiness outside the body is not a doorway, it is also a convenient place for meditation and contemplation, and the sleeping skills of Buddhism are also concerned about the same point.

Of course, it is not enough to just keep the mind, but also to close the eyes to "look inward" at the breath in and out of the nostrils, and the ears to listen to the subtle sound of the breath in and out.

The word "keep" is easy to say, but it is not easy to do, and the minds of ordinary people are most appropriately described by the words "heart ape and horse", but it is extremely difficult to hold a point in a three-pronged manner, even if it is only for three or five minutes.

What's more, for ordinary people, even if they think they have been preoccupied with "guarding", in fact, there are still countless subtle and almost imperceptible subtle thoughts in his heart.

For thoughts, Buddhism even gives a detailed calculation method, the so-called one moment is one thought, twenty thoughts are one moment, and twenty moments are a flick of the fingers. A flick of the fingers, that is, a second, that is, an untrained ordinary person, in a second, there will be four hundred subtle thoughts in his heart.

Everyone can't detect it, it's just because ordinary people's minds are too careless, and only cultivators who have undergone long-term training have the opportunity to perceive these subtle "small movements" in the depths of their hearts. Buddhist disciples practice meditation, and Taoist monks "drill into the darkness", all of which start at the place of controlling thoughts and work hard.

The second trick of the dragon sleeping pill gong is also two sentences, eight words, called: "The heart forgets each other, and the spirit and qi are one." "In the past, the dependence of the heart and breath still belonged to the superficial stage of acquired breathing, and when it came to the step of forgetting the heart, it was already the transition stage from acquired breathing to innate breathing. The interdependence of the heart is to "guard" a little void outside the tip of the nose through thoughts, eyes, and ears, which belongs to the Dharma. To put it bluntly, it is by paying as much attention to the breath as possible, so as to achieve the effect of calming the mind, and only by going further and forgetting all the mind and breath can we achieve the so-called natural breathing state of Ren Yun, and it is possible to open the door of innate breathing.

The truth of this second trick is clear, but it is very rare to be able to actually reach this state. The vast majority of people who try to sleep on the dragon are stuck at the stage of the first trick of interdependence, either they fall asleep or keep guarding, and suddenly the spirit comes, and their minds float so that they can't sleep at all, resulting in insomnia. Of course, even if you forget your heart, you still haven't left the scope of your acquired breath, because the breath that your heart forgets is still just a void on the tip of your nose.

As for the state of "sleep" pursued by this dragon sleeping pill gong, it is described in the third trick as "falling asleep suddenly, the prelude to the great determination". The sleep mentioned here is not the kind of lethargy that ordinary people have completely lost consciousness, so the word "suddenly" was added in front of it to modify and describe the sleep of this dragon. Ordinary people have achieved success in cultivating the first trick of heart-to-heart dependence, and can quickly enter the so-called deep sleep state, sleeping only three or five hours a night, and then they can be refreshed in the next day. It's just that no matter how deep sleep is, in essence, it still belongs to the category of drowsiness, and once a person falls into a drowsiness, he can't be the master of his own house.

The third trick of the dragon sleeping pill gong "suddenly sleeping" refers to a state of sleeping without sleeping, sleeping without sleeping, to put it bluntly, it is to be able to maintain a state of "awakening" in sleep. To use an analogy, even if a cultivator enters a dream state while sleeping, he can still bring up an awakening in his heart and understand that he is dreaming.

This state of staying awake in sleep sounds incredible, but it is actually a manifestation of the monk's transformation from a state of sleep to a state of concentration. To put it bluntly, for cultivators who have truly reached the third trick of the Dragon Sleeping Pill, sleeping is a kind of meditation, and it is not a general meditation, but a state of great concentration that is close to the innate state.

There are only three sentences and twenty-four words in the mantra of the dragon sleeping pill gong. But for ordinary people, even if they get the formula, they still have no way to start. is like Mei Chaofeng in the Legend of the Condor Heroes, although he got the Nine Yin True Scripture, he couldn't figure out how to cultivate, and finally ended up practicing blindly and going crazy.

The Taoist Danfa has been passed down for thousands of years, paying attention to "passing on the torch". The so-called salary refers to the Danjing mantra copied in the book secret book, which belongs to the manifest tradition, as long as ordinary people are willing to spend money and work hard to collect, they can always get it. However, fire refers to the word "fire", that is, how to interpret the Danjing formula, how to start, and how to deal with the various realms encountered in cultivation, but this large part of the content is only passed on by word of mouth among disciples, and does not fall into the secret transmission of words. The word "fire" is the true meaning of the six ears of the Dharma among monks!

For Qi Huan, the knowledge points in his mind are more detailed and comprehensive than the "fire" of the secret transmission of master and apprentice. Because there is no way to describe many experiences in the practice in words, just like the Buddha on the Vulture Mountain to show the public, only the Venerable Kasa smiled slightly, and the message transmitted between the Buddha and the Venerable Kasa is the kind of Zen of epiphany that cannot be described in words at all.

To put it bluntly, in addition to the theoretical knowledge points of the dragon sleeping pill gong in Qi Huan's mind, there are also all kinds of precious experiences that his grandfather gained when he practiced this exercise.

Because of this, many people "sleep" for ten or eight years and can't do the "heart-to-heart dependence", Qi Huan did it within a hundred breaths, and went further, and soon forgot about each other, and then turned into a state of sudden sleep that seemed to be asleep but not asleep.
