Chapter 33 The Road Is Difficult
The heavens and the earth are lonely, and the heavy rain is like a pillar.
On the official road of the mountain road with heavy rain and mud, he was busy wearing monk's clothes.
It turned out that because of the heavy rain, a large pile of stones rolled down from the mountain and crossed the official road.
When a little monk saw this, he did not choose to go around, but stopped in the heavy rain, braved the heavy rain, and moved the stones off the road.
There are stones to wrap around on the mountain road, and there are stones to wrap around in the heart?
After moving the stones, the little monk stretched his hands out in the rain, took a handful of water, washed off the mud on his hands, and then continued to walk.
From one small clue one can see what is coming.
The continuous rain has caused the Yuqing River to slowly overflow the riverside on both banks, and the river is overflowing.
On the Yuqing River, the monk in the center of the stone bridge welcomed a visitor, who was also a monk.
But one monk is big, and the other monk is small.
The big monk is called the honest monk, and the small monk is called the Buddha seal monk.
The Buddha seal monk arrived, and the honest monk opened his eyes.
Monk Foyin was happy and said, "Half Senior Brother, I saw you from a distance just now, as if I saw a lotus flower. ”
The honest monk smiled slightly and said, "When I look at you now, it's like seeing my Buddha." ”
Monk Buddha Yin said: "Half Senior Brother, Master originally asked me to ask you two questions, what is human nature? What is Buddha nature? I think these two questions are too big, so I want to change them, but I want to change them to three questions? Is it okay?"
The honest monk looked at the Buddha seal monk and neither shook his head nor nodded.
Monk Buddha Yin asked: "Half a senior brother, my Buddha said, 'Put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the ground'." If it is a butcher who kills pigs, do you think he will go to hell after he dies, and do you think he can be reincarnated as a human in the next life?"
The honest monk asked rhetorically, "You said that the butcher kills every day, what do you want?"
Monk Foyin said: "Of course, it is to sell meat to earn money and support the family. ”
The honest monk Zhengse said: "I'll tell you a story." There are scriptures that say that at the intersection of Jingshan Road in Taizhou, there is a person named Zhao Ni, who has been killing pigs for generations. And one night he dreamed of a hundred thousand pigs, all of whom spoke human words, and said to him, 'My generation was slain and suffered, and now you have fulfilled your sins, and you will be punished, and we will be freed from suffering.'" The next day he was about to get up and kill the pig, when he suddenly screamed and went mad and died. ”
"There is also a story, also in a scripture, that once Manjushri was passing by the door of a butcher's house in the form of an incarnation, and saw several men trying to capture a pig and prepare to kill it. The Bodhisattva stopped and called out to the pig to be killed by his name, and the pig immediately agreed, and ran to Manjushri in a tamely manner. The butcher was horrified and said, 'Don't kill this pig.' So he asked Manjushri to kill another pig. Manjushri called out to the second pig in another person's name, and the pig also ran over tamely and stood beside Manjushri. The butcher was horrified and said, 'Don't kill this pig.' It turned out that the names that the Bodhisattva shouted successively were the names of the butcher's parents, so the butcher was not allowed to kill them. The butcher's parents also killed pigs during their lifetimes, and they both became pigs after their deaths. ”
The Buddha Yin monk was a little confused, and he was just making a living, but he was also retributed. We don't eat pork, and we can't ask everyone not to eat pork.
The little monk remembered that on the way down the mountain, he saw the group of monks who were willing to stop the Dajin Iron Horse from going south at the cost of their lives, did these people also have to bear such a big karma.
Unexpectedly, the honest monk's eyes suddenly lit up, and he shouted: "When I encounter injustice, my Buddha will also make a lion's cry." ”
Monk Foyin smiled slightly: "Half senior brother, do you also make a lion song here?"
The honest monk did not respond.
Then the Buddha Yin monk continued to ask, "Why are you and I different?"
The honest monk asked rhetorically, "Guanyin Bodhisattva is holding a Buddha bead in his hand, who is he reading?"
The Buddha Yin monk said: "Guanyin Bodhisattva holding Buddha beads in his hand is chanting Guanyin Bodhisattva. ”
The honest monk continued to ask, "Why does Guanyin Bodhisattva recite his name?"
The Buddha Yin monk said: "It is better to ask for others than for yourself." ”
The honest monk continued to ask, "What is it better to seek others than yourself?"
The Buddha Yin monk replied: "The Buddha is not far away in the Lingshan Mountain, the Lingshan is in my heart, and everyone has a Lingshan Pagoda, so that they can repair the Lingshan Pagoda." ”
The honest monk continued to ask, "What is the Dharma?"
The Buddha Yin monk replied: "The Buddha plucked the flowers, and the leaves smiled." ”
The honest monk continued to ask, "Where does laughter come from?"
The Buddha Yin monk replied: "A smile is an epiphany, an epiphany comes from gradual enlightenment, and gradual enlightenment is to go to epiphany." ”
The honest monk smiled slightly, and then shouted, "Why are you and I different?"
The Buddha Yin monk replied: "South is the north, the north is the south, the body is like a Bodhi tree, and the Bodhi itself has no tree." ”
Then, the Buddha Yin monk folded his hands and made a big bow.
Everyone in the world thinks that the Southern Sect of Zen Buddhism and the Northern Sect of Zen Buddhism are completely different from each other, but in fact, the kung fu before the Epiphany is the ascetic gradual enlightenment. It's just that some people can't see it, and they don't want to do it when they see it.
The honest monk bowed his head and folded his head, and then continued: "I'm afraid that I have realized the wrong Dharma, and I am even more afraid that I will say the wrong Dharma, and I am afraid that I will teach you how to walk step by step now, and finally teach you how to walk step by step in the future. ”
The Buddha Yin monk Buddha sang, "Amitabha." ”
In fact, the Buddha seal monk has a third question, but there is no need to ask, the third question is "The saint seeks the heart, who seeks the Buddha?"
Monk Buddha Yin said: "Half senior brother, I won't ask you the Dharma in my third question, but I will ask you some truth." ”
Seeing that the Buddha Seal monk wanted to speak and stopped, the honest monk opened the door and smiled: "What do you want to ask me to stay here?"
Monk Buddha Yin smiled and didn't speak, but as if to say, "How do you know, why don't you be half a senior brother?"
The honest monk smiled and asked, "Should an official who has been treacherous and evil for 10,000 years deserve to die?"
Monk Buddha Yin thought about it, nodded, and shook his head again.
The honest monk continued to ask: "Should a famous general who has gone down in history and made outstanding achievements deserve to die?"
The Buddha Yin monk didn't think about it, and shook his head directly.
"If there is a problem with the private virtues of a high-ranking monk who has made meritorious contributions, you can help him conceal it, or you can help him hold a rod for thirty years and expel him from the temple, which one do you choose?"
Monk Foyin thought for a moment and said, "I choose the latter." ”
The honest monk continued to ask, "What if that person is your master?"
The Buddha Yin monk was stunned and couldn't help shaking his head.
The honest monk continued: "You can't go to extremes in everything, everyone's angle is different, not to mention that there may be a blind eye, and you can't see Mount Tai." Once a person is determined to be evil, he does not see his goodness at all, and once he is recognized as good, he does not see his evil at all. Gold is not a saint, and people are not saints. ”
The honest monk paused, thought about it again, and continued: "For example, the example you just mentioned, after being a butcher for more than 20 years, he can only kill pigs, and when he is in the end, he can no longer kill pigs, how can he support his family? For the sake of faith, let his family and children starve to death?"
Monk Buddha Yin seems to understand a little, and always feels that what he said makes sense, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the question he asked.
The honest monk touched the head of the Buddha seal, and then said, "From different angles, no one deserves to die, so I stopped here." If they can be stopped, they will not be allowed to enter the town to die? If they can't be stopped, or if they haven't had time to stop them before, that's the only way. Stopping one is one, and it is finally a life-saving. ”
The Buddha Yin monk said: "What does the half-senior brother mean that no matter who he is, he can become a Buddha on the ground by putting down the butcher's knife?"
The honest monk laughed and said, "The world is very puzzled to put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the ground, saying, 'No matter how big a mistake I made before, as long as I put down the butcher's knife, I can become a Buddha on the ground, which is very reasonable.'" Actually, it's not, because the real mystery lies in the realization that 'the butcher's knife is in my hand', and I just heard someone say, 'It's better to carry the knife in your hand than to let it be a mermaid'. There are many people in the world who are evil and do not know evil, and many people know evil and do evil. In the final analysis, there is a bloody butcher knife in their hands, and there is just a difference in severity. Wouldn't it be a good deed if you could really let go and turn back from now on?"
The honest monk continued: "The bodhisattva has a heart, and teaches the world. Be kind to the world, and the world will be kind to you. ”
After speaking, the honest monk looked serene, folded his hands, bowed his head and said, "Amitabha." ”
The Buddha Yin monk looked at the Yuqing River, which had already crossed the stone bridge, and muttered alone: "If all the sand in the Ganges River, if it is sand, wait for the Ganges ......"
In the old post house not far from the stone bridge, a hunchbacked woman could not move, but she seemed to be thoughtful and enlightened......
