Chapter 21: Mercy is useless
The ancient Buddhist temple of the green lantern is like the hearts of the people.
In the west of this Hangzhou Mansion, on the Putuo Mountain of Lingyin Prefecture, there is a magnificent temple, which comes from eight bluestone paths on all sides, and there are 3,864 Buddha statues in the temple along the way, which is named, Ten Thousand Buddha Temple.
"Do you know? Master Hui Cong is going to take his two disciples down the mountain to seek meditation today. A little monk swept the floor and said to his companion who was sprinkling water next to him. The other little monk was stunned for a moment, and said with envy on his face: "Are you the two uncles who have made the dust and the precepts? It's really good, they are not a few years older than us, and they have the hope of participating in Zen meditation and entering the Buddha." ”
The little monk who swept the floor just smiled and said lightly: "Master Huicong said that everyone has their own way of Buddhism, and the two uncles are just young, but the Buddha is delicate, so as long as we also devote ourselves to meditation, we can also become that Buddha." The little monk who sprinkled the water also grinned when he heard this, and said: "Although Master Hui Cong accepted Chen and Lijie as disciples, but every time Ming Xuan you go to deliver food to the ancestor, he will be willing to transfer you a few words, which is really good." ”
"What are you saying badly about your uncle and me here?" Just as the two little monks were speaking, they saw a slightly fat young monk suddenly fall behind them, startling the two of them. After the little monk named Ming Xuan came back to his senses, he also knew who it was, turned to look at the young monk, and said helplessly: "Uncle Jieshi, you have secretly run down the mountain to drink wine and eat meat again, although Master Huicong has never said this about you, but the abbot has explained, if you break the precept again, you will really be punished to go to the backyard of the Hidden Scripture Pavilion to sweep the fallen leaves." ”
He didn't care about it, and wiped his hand that seemed to have just eaten something and was stained with oil on the corner of the monk's robe, and said: "Senior brother Abbot is just old and nosy, besides, I didn't steal wine and meat, uh." As soon as he finished speaking, he also had a wine burp, and the two little monks also looked helpless. Guarding the mountain gate on this side, this uncle and uncle sneaked out to drink every three or five days, and every time they went to their side, so they were not less punished for the precepts.
The little monk Mingxuan knew that his uncle had always been such a scoundrel, and said helplessly with a smile: "Just now, we were separated from Mingtai, and I heard him say that he went to Lin Xunyuan to find you, and called you to go to the Baoxiong Palace, and the abbot and Huicong Master are waiting for you." Now that you have just come back from the mountain, the Mingtai will definitely not be found, so Uncle Shi should go to the Baoxiong Hall quickly. After listening to the words of the little monk, he knocked him the head, turned around and ran towards the temple. Seeing that the shoes ran away and didn't have time to pick up the ring, the little monk Mingxuan rubbed his head that was knocked by him, and laughed softly: "I seem to understand a little bit, and I have learned the Zen of Uncle Ringmaster." ”
In the main hall of Baoxiong, more than 30 monks from the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple gathered together, including the abbot and the abbot of the three halls and six courtyards. Gathering together today is just to send this Hui Cong and his two disciples down the mountain to seek Zen. "I'm sorry guys, I'm late, and the book "Garo Buddha" is very good, so I delayed it a little, delayed it a little. As he spoke, he ran into the Baoxiong Hall under everyone's gaze.
Looking at his sloppy appearance, he didn't even wear a pair of shoes, and he was still full of wine and oil on the corners of his mouth, and those who knew his virtue understood what was going on. When the abbot saw that he was also coming, he said calmly: "Since everyone has arrived, let's chant the scriptures and pass on the things." After saying that, the two monks respectively handed over a string of prayer beads to the hands of the ring and the dust, and then the group of monks chanted, and the ring almost fell asleep. HC looked at his unruly disciple, but he kept smiling, but the senior brother who had taken the ring was dusty, and he didn't know if he was cultivating the angry King Kong or what, so he kept staring at him with wide eyes, making him uncomfortable to sleep.
The next day, after all the explanations were completed, the old monk Hui Cong took his two disciples out of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple, and traveled all the way west according to the route set at the beginning. On the way, except for the fact that he secretly ran to break the ring to eat meat and drink wine, there was nothing to do.
Although Na Lichen and him are both disciples of this Huicong, he has always been unaccustomed to the actions of this ring, and even asked his master Huicong more than once. The old monk Huicong didn't know if he was asked the question of getting used to the precepts or what, so he just said lightly: "There is a Buddha in his heart, and he stays there, and this is his ability." Every time he heard such an answer, Lichen no longer asked deeply, his master was famous for his good temper in the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple, and he would not preach the precept anyway.
Traveling all the way to the west, sometimes when he arrives at a place, the old monk of Hui Cong will stop there for a while and make a picture, sometimes it is just a stream in front of the farmhouse, sometimes it is just a dead tree on the side of the road in a hurry, and even sometimes, just when he wants to paint but he just says, but sometimes, he also says, and finally paints again. Every time after this, the old monk of Huicong still has to ask what he saw in the dust and the ring, but the dust can say a lot every time, but the ring is always only three words, too lazy to read. Monk Huicong listened to the answers of the two, and he still smiled faintly as always, and there was nothing more.
Since leaving the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple for more than a month, the only time I have communicated with Na Huicong for a long time is still at the foot of Nawudang Mountain. When he saw a ruffian bully bullying a business owner, a man who looked like a soldier shot out and took away the bully, and then aroused his interest in the ring, and asked with interest: "Master, if you fight, there are people who have beaten you on this Wudang Mountain." ”
Surprisingly, HC didn't just smile at some unstoppable questions as usual, but this time he answered with a smile and said: "The predecessors don't know, and the descendants don't know." Now, there is one person on this Wudang Mountain who can win half of my sword. Seeing that this master, who usually only laughs, was interested in taking care of himself, he asked again: "It is said that the peak of martial arts is both through Xuan, so no matter who has predecessors and descendants, you are already at the peak of Tongxuan, how can anyone win your half sword?" As a teacher all his life, for the sake of Buddhism, he never thought about taking that step, but it was too late to understand, he was still young, and he stepped on it. After listening to the clouds, it was the master who talked about his Zen, except for hearing that there was a young man on Wudang Mountain who took more than half a step above the Xuan, and the others didn't think about it much.
One day, when the three of them were passing by a small village, they happened to encounter a group of bandits who burned, killed and looted, and Lichen subdued the group of bandits under the instruction of HC. Monk Hui Cong looked at the dilapidated village in front of him that was messed up by these thieves, and let the ring distribute their coils to the suffering families, and only whispered to those thieves: "My Buddha is merciful, you don't want to kill again, put down the butcher's knife, go to the nearest temple to concentrate on cultivating Buddha, and the green lantern is the companion, this is to turn back." The thieves agreed, and the leader-like man cut off his hair with a knife on the spot, and then left with his men.
When they arrived at the Shiyan Mansion three days later, they learned that after the three of them left, the group of bandits on Wushan had returned to the village at night, this time not only robbing the finances, but also slaughtering the village. Monk Huicong looked at the notice of the city wall, just lowered his head indifferently and turned away, reciting the scriptures, and when he saw this, he also recited the scriptures with him, only the precepts, and looked at the official notice for a long time.
At night, the monk Huicong, who was chanting in the wing room of the inn at night, seemed to be waiting for someone, and the door was not closed. After a while, sure enough, he walked in holding the rosary given by the abbot when he left the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple. Monk Hui Cong opened his eyes, looked at this disciple of his own, and said, "You are here to solve your doubts?"
Hearing this, he said indifferently: "The disciple is not confused. ”
"That's what you figured out?"
He put the string of prayer beads in his hand on the table and said, "I figured it out, if it is Zen to turn back to the shore, then this Buddha, I can't do it." ”
Monk Huicong heard this, put down his hand and said flatly: "But this is that, my Buddha is compassionate." ”
After putting down the prayer beads, he turned around to leave, but when he heard the words of Monk Huicong, he still turned his head and said indifferently: "Since this is the case, I will let the gods and Buddhas know about it." ”
"Mercy is useless!"
