Chapter 151: Meditation
At this time, Yu Zhenyi is like a Buddhist practitioner, and he wants to go through this purgatory cave.
Look at the various states of life and practice meditation.
When the Xiang Zen Master was walking, he was thirsty and looked around for a water source, and just happened to see a young man walking on a water wheel in the pond not far away, and the Wu Xiang Zen Master asked the young man for a glass of water to drink. The young man said in an envious tone: "Zen Master, if one day I break through the red dust, I will definitely become a monk like you. However, after I became a monk, I don't want to wander around like you and live in a fixed place, I will find a place to live in seclusion, meditate in meditation, and never show my head again. ”
The Wuxiang Zen Master asked with a smile, "Oh, then when will you break through the red dust?"
The young man replied: "I know the nature of the waterwheel best in our area, and the whole village uses it as the main source of water, and if I find someone who can take over from me to take care of the waterwheel, without the shackles of responsibility, I can find my own way out, and I can see through the red dust and become a monk." ”
Zen Master Wuxiang said, "You know the waterwheel best, what would happen if the waterwheel was completely submerged in the water, or completely out of the water?"
The young man said: "The principle of the waterwheel is that the lower half is placed in the water, and the upper part turns against the current, if the waterwheel is completely immersed in the water, not only will it not be able to rotate, but it will even be swept away by the rapids. ”
Wuxiang Zen Master said: "The relationship between the waterwheel and the flow of water can explain the relationship between people and the world. If a person completely enters the world and plunges into the rivers and lakes, he will inevitably be swept away by the tide of the world; if he is completely born, pretends to be high, and does not associate with the world, then his life will be floating without roots and idling. Therefore, a cultivator should enter and exit properly, neither stand idly by nor devote himself to smashing, so that both birth and entry into the world can stand side by side, and this is the correct attitude for dealing with the world and learning the Tao as a monk. ”
After hearing this, the young man said happily: "Zen master, your words really made me suddenly!"
After the spread of Buddhism to the east, the bell also became one of the main utensils in the jungle. The bell is closely related to the daily life of the temple, and is a signal for the daily life of the Buddhist temple and the music of the Buddhist celebrations. The bell is generally made of copper and iron, and the "morning bell and dusk drum" we usually say refers to the "big bell", and the big bell is also called the Van bell, which is generally hung on the bell tower, and has a bell head for special management. Because of its loud voice, it is also called Hong Zhong. The bell has a special status, except for major pujas, and only strikes once a day in the morning and evening.
"The Hundred Chapters of the Qing Rules" said: "The dawn strike will break the long night, and the alarm sleeps; "The sound of the bell not only reminds the monks not to forget their practice, but also warns the world to awaken people and dispel their troubles. As for the number of times the bell is struck, everyone knows that although the rhythm of the bell ringing in each temple is not necessarily the same, the number of times is the same, it is one hundred and eight times, although there are many sayings, but it is generally believed that there are one hundred and eight kinds of troubles in life, and the bell is struck one hundred and eight times in order to get rid of these one hundred and eight kinds of troubles.
When I first practiced, it was a small magic barrier that was easy to break. When the power of the Dao deepens, the fundamental habits of many beings hidden in the eight consciousnesses are forced out by Kung Fu, or the thoughts are flying sideways, or the delusions are confused, the power is very great, and it is extraordinary, and the cultivator is the only one who has the last hurdle, and it is the most difficult to escape.
It is all self-reliance, I am afraid that I can't grasp it, and I must rely on the power of the Buddha to help, but I can only hold my mind and recite the mantra. The mantra is the vajra heart seal of the Buddha, no matter what kind of demon, it will be shattered when encountered.
The power of the spells to subdue the demons, with Leng Yan as the most victorious. On the same day, Ananda proved the status of Sudra Huan's first fruits, and he still got out of the prostitution seat. The second is the mantra of great compassion, which is said by Guanyin Bodhisattva. Guanyin has fourteen kinds of fearless merits, so the power of subduing demons is also great.
But to hold the mantra kung fu, you must be familiar with it on weekdays, otherwise the devil is coming, I am afraid that I can't remember the words, how can I be profitable? How can I correspond?
Therefore, in the daily homework, the two mantras of strictness and great compassion must be recited every day and cannot be interrupted. Practice hard and be specialized. However, ordinary people are delusional, and if they do not add the help of mantras, they may lead to slackness. If it can be like mourning, it is like saving the head. then in one line of samadhi, it is really the best. If you take it as careless, or if you are lazy and give it away, it is better to hold the mantra as sure.
Magical powers are originally a very simple thing, as long as your heart is pure and your heart is fixed, these are the functions of the heart, and it is a thing that is self-sufficient in human nature, and there is nothing particularly unusual, but ordinary people do not understand this truth, and they do not have this ability, so they think it is wonderful and incredible.
Actually, people with real supernatural powers don't talk about it, just like a person who has tens of millions of dollars in the bank, will he go around preaching about it? I believe that no one will be so stupid!
People who really have supernatural powers will know that people are harming you when they say that you have supernatural powers, because once this kind of thing is publicized, all people will come to you to ask for advice, then won't your life be over? This is a little better, but the worse situation is that you don't have supernatural powers, but people insist that you have supernatural powers, and at this time you say that you don't have supernatural powers, it seems that you are losing face, so you also pretend to have supernatural powers, then this is a big lie, and you will go to hell.
Even if you have supernatural powers, if people often come to you to challenge and test, like those who know martial arts go to various Taoist halls to find people to compare, then don't you have to fall down? There are many problems and many disadvantages, so people who really have supernatural powers understand these things and cannot talk about them. Of course, it is not impossible to use supernatural powers, but it depends on the situation and cannot be used indiscriminately.
If we can keep our hearts pure and at ease, this is better than having supernatural powers. If you have supernatural powers and see other things, if you don't have wisdom, you will immediately run away from the supernatural powers, and that is even more harmful.
Even if you get supernatural powers, don't be attached to them, because clinging to supernatural powers will most likely lead you to the wrong path. For example, if you see someone who has a calamity next prayer, but you can't see the next prayer, maybe you will be wrong in your judgment. Therefore, it is also dangerous to have supernatural powers, so you should use them carefully.
You have to be pure when you keep the vows, you can't say that we who practice meditation have wine and meat through the intestines, and the Buddha sits in the middle, and it doesn't matter if he eats wine or meat, as long as he doesn't do bad things, this kind of thinking will slowly evolve and produce evil views.
The Buddhist scriptures say, "Don't cling to supernatural powers." But most people think that supernatural powers are very good and can help people heal diseases and relieve misfortunes, so why don't you cling to supernatural powers? This is not until you reach that state before you will know that there is a profound truth in these words. In fact, if you don't ask, don't cling, your ability will be greater, this is the way!
Of course, supernatural powers can also be cultivated, but without correct knowledge and correct views, what are they doing when they are cultivated? Ordinary people regard supernatural powers as a tool for selling fame and reputation, and this has become an evil view.
Not only are supernatural powers not attached, but so is all wisdom. When the realm of meditation is present, if you don't keep the precepts, evil perceptions will arise. When we practice and keep this current mind, we will not be prone to accidents, and we will not miss time and take a long detour on the path of cultivation.
King Bosnian had a daughter named "King Kong", who was widowed at a young age. The king and his wife took pity on their daughter's plight, built a palace for her, and sent 500 kaki attendants to sing and dance all day long, in order to relieve the princess of her empty and lonely days.
One of these kabuki was an older man, named "Tokatsu", who often went to the market to buy rouge pollen and fragrant flowers. One day, Du Sheng went to the city to purchase, but found that the atmosphere in the city was different from the past, and the public were holding fragrant flowers and competing to go out of the city. Du Sheng couldn't help but ask passers-by curiously:
"Excuse me, where are you going so happy?"
The passer-by replied, "The reason why everyone is so happy is because the Buddha of the Three Realms is speaking in the meditation of the garden, and he has not only renounced birth and death, but also taught the people the way to practice in order to achieve the state of liberation, so we have prepared incense flowers to make offerings." ”
After hearing this, Du Sheng was very happy, and thought to himself: "I have lived to such a long age, and it is really a blessing to meet a wise sage, how can I miss such a rare opportunity!" So, Du Sheng took out part of the money that was originally going to buy incense powder, bought flowers, and followed everyone to the garden house. After bowing to the Buddha with great sincerity, he stepped aside to scatter flowers and burn incense, and listened to the Buddha's teachings with reverence.
After the end, Du Sheng returned to the market to retrieve the things she had bought before, because the merits of listening to the Dharma, coupled with the retribution of the good deeds in the past life, made the pollen, fragrance and weight of the flowers she had purchased better than before, and even increased several times.
When Du Sheng returned to the palace, the princess and the singers were already impatient, and they all asked Du Sheng: "Why have you been there for so long, are you lazy somewhere?" Quick, to be honest!" Du Sheng reported the truth: "Have you ever heard of the sage 'Buddha'? The supreme of the Three Realms is speaking for the public at the garden retreat today, and teaching the way to relieve troubles. The sound of the Buddha's Dharma is like beating a huge Dharma drum, which is enough to shake the three thousand worlds, and the number of people who come to the garden to listen to the Dharma today is even more immeasurable. The reason why I came back so late was because I went with the crowd to the Garden of Solitude and listened to the Buddha's teachings. ”
After listening to Du Sheng's account, the princess and the other maids could not help but feel mixed joy and sorrow when they learned that the teachings of the Lord were profound and unpleasant, and could not help but be overjoyed. I was glad that the Buddha was already in the Acropolis, but I was worried that I was not blessed to hear the Buddha's teachings, so I sighed and said, "I didn't know what karma I created in the past, but I didn't have the blessing to hear about the Dharma?"
But the princess thought about it for a moment, and said to Du Sheng, "Since you have already heard the Buddha's teachings, why don't you preach to us what was going on at that time?" Du Sheng said with a sad face: "The slave and maid have a humble status and an impure mouth, how dare they preach the Dharma so casually. Princess, why don't I go and ask the Buddha for a look, can you say?" After receiving the permission of the princess, Du Sheng hurried to the ashram to ask the Buddha for advice, while the others waited anxiously in the courtyard for Du Sheng's return, and their thirst was like a child waiting for his mother to come home.
When he arrived at the ashram, he sincerely bowed to the Buddha and then expressed his intention. The Buddha told Dusheng, "If you go back to the palace and speak for the people, you will liberate many people." However, before the Dharma is preached, the people listening to the Dharma must prepare a high seat for the person who speaks the Dharma, so that it is in accordance with the rules. Du Sheng returned to the palace and repeated the words of the Buddha, and the people were very happy to hear it, so they decided to take off one piece of clothing and fold it into a throne. Du Sheng, on the other hand, returned to his residence to bathe and change his clothes, showing his respect for the Fa with a pure body, mouth, and mind.
Under the blessing of the Buddha's power, Du Sheng's statement is very wonderful, and it is no different from the Buddha's own declaration, so the princess and the singers all dispel doubts and evil thoughts, and immediately attain the fruit of Sudra Huan. Unfortunately, just as the public was listening to the Dharma, the palace suddenly caught fire, because everyone was listening to the Dharma intently, unaware of the danger of the environment, and by the time they found out, the fire had already been out of control. As a result, the princess and the 500 kataka were burned in the flames, and they were reborn in the heavenly realm after their deaths.
When King Bosnian heard the news of the fire in his daughter's palace, he immediately led people to put out the fire, but when he arrived at the scene, the palace had already burned to ashes. Although the king of Persia was heartbroken, he could only quickly order someone to prepare a coffin for the funeral of the princess and the kabuki. After the funeral, the king of Persia came to the ashram with a sad face, and after paying homage to the Buddha, he sat down on his seat with a sad face. The Buddha asked, "King, what are you here for?" and King Bosnian replied with his palms folded, "My beloved daughter, Princess Vajra, was unfortunately killed in a fire and even the 500 Kabuki who served her on a daily basis were buried in the fire cave. I don't know what kind of karma they have created in the past, and they have suffered this misfortune today? ”
The Buddha told King Bosnia, "In a past life, there was a city called 'Palanai'. One day, an elderly lady in the city led 500 maids to hold a sacrifice ceremony outside the city. The rules of the sacrifice were so secret that no one was allowed to approach anyone except this family, and anyone who did not know about it was burned to death in the fire. At that time, there was a Buddha named "Kara", who lived in the mountains and practiced, going out in the morning to make bowls, and returning to the mountains in the evening to work hard. On this day, when the Garrot Bowl passed by the place of sacrifice, the old lady was very angry when she saw it, and immediately sent for her to be caught and put into the flames. Garo waited until his whole body burned to scorch, and suddenly he appeared to be full of divine powers, and flew into the void.
The public present saw this
When he realized that he had offended the Holy One, he fell to his knees on the spot, wept bitterly, and said in repentance, 'What a foolish and ignorant group of women who have eyes and do not know the Holy One, and have insulted and hurt you. We know that our sinful karma is as heavy as a mountain, and we pray to you, the Holy One, to give us a chance to repent and get rid of the sinful karma we have created. 'The Buddha listened to the sad voice of the elder lady, and immediately descended from the sky and entered the realm of Nirvana. In order to express her repentance and kindness, the elder lady erected a pagoda for His Holiness Kara and offered his relics. ”
Then the Buddha said another verse: "Foolishness and evil cannot be extricated from self-extrication; Foolishness does not mean that it is suitable for suffering, and when it is about falling into doom, it is knowing that it is not good. ”
The Buddha said to King Bosnia, "The old lady's wife was the princess Vajra, and the five hundred kataka such as Dusheng were the maids of the time. In fact, sin and merit always follow us like a shadow, and no matter how long it is, as long as the karma meets, it will appear, and this cannot be abandoned. ”
After the Buddha taught and perfected the principle of evil cause and effect, the people of all over the country, regardless of gender, old and young, took the three refuges and the five precepts, and followed the Buddha's teachings and practiced diligently.
Among all the disciples of the Buddha, the one with the most solemn appearance and the strongest memory is the Venerable Ananda. His Holiness Ananda had an extraordinary life, and he had a profound impact on the Sangha at that time and on Buddhism today.
Ananda joined the Sangha when he was a child, and he became a monk with Anaru, Bhatti, etc., and when the first seven princes of Shakti were ordained, Ananda participated in them at the youngest age.
Ananda's father was the King of Rice, and Devadatta was Ananda's elder brother, so it can be said that he was able to join the Sangha in his childhood, which can be said to be the hope of the Buddha. The most important thing for a great man in his life's career is to find a successor, cultivate him, promote him, and soon after the Buddha attained enlightenment, he chose Ananda. Therefore, when the opportunity was ripe, Ananda joined the Sangha with Prince Bhatti and others, followed the Buddha, and served the Buddha ever since.
There are many praises of Ananda in Buddhist scriptures. The Sutra says that he knows the timing, understands things, has no doubts about what he does, does not forget the things in his memory, and is knowledgeable and knowledgeable, and can endure and worship the saints.
Ananda, who grew up in the Sangha, had a gentle and compassionate nature and a touching handsomeness. He was the most respected woman in the Sangha, both inside and outside the Sangha, and he showed great concern for the bhikshunis and comforted the laity of the laity. It was also because of Ananda's request that the Sangha had women ordained.
Because Ananda was a person of the Saulon Buddha seed in the Buddha's mind, in order for Ananda to be able to control himself and concentrate on cultivation, the Buddha wanted to ask Ananda to be his attendant. This was the twenty-second year of the Buddha's enlightenment, and the Buddha was already fifty-three years old, when the Buddha was living in the bamboo forest ashram and Ananda was chosen to be the Buddha's attendant. Before that, the Buddha did not have a permanent attendant, and the service to the Buddha was carried out by the bhikshus in turn.
At this time, Moggallan knew what the Buddha meant, and he and Sariputta came to persuade Ananda and said, "Ananda Bhikkhu! The Buddha means that you should be his attendant, for example, if the east side of the pavilion is opened, the morning sun will shine on the west wall first, you are young and promising, intelligent and gentle, we hope you can bear it!"
After hearing this, Ananda excused himself with heavy responsibilities, and after the persuasion of Moggallan and Sariputta, Ananda put forward three conditions: 1. The Buddha's clothes, whether old or new, should not be worn. 2. If a believer asks the Buddha to make an offering, he does not serve. 3. He doesn't go to see the Buddha when he doesn't go to see him, but he is willing to serve the Buddha.
When Moggallan and Sariputta presented Ananda to the Buddha and conveyed Ananda's conditions to the Buddha, the Buddha was not angry, but exclaimed with great joy: Ananda is really a virtuous bhikshu, and his request is to avoid ridicule and to take precautions. Because Ananda Bhikshu was afraid of being criticized by others, saying that Ananda served the Buddha for clothing and food, he knew prevention, so he asked for this.
Since then, Ananda has been a servant of the Buddha, and he was only in his twenties at this time. During his 25 years of service to the Buddha, he acted according to the Buddha's will, followed the teachings, and followed the Buddha to various places to preach the Dharma. With such causes, the Dharma flows like a sea into Ananda's mind.
The young Ananda followed the Buddha every day and became a mediator between the Buddha and the bhikshus. In the Sangha, he often maintained a sense of modesty, reverence, and shame. There are quite a few believers who have converted to Buddhism because of Ananda.
Ananda is a combination of piety, simplicity, diligence, prudence, modesty, incorruptibility, observance, lack of desire, and wisdom, and has the most thorough understanding of Buddhism, but his status in Buddhism is not high. The four major voices are heard, and there is no him in the sixteen arhats. Among the ten disciples of the Buddha, he was the most knowledgeable and knowledgeable, that is, the most knowledgeable, but he was the last.
Forty-nine years after the Buddha's enlightenment, the Buddha announced that he would enter Nirvana among the twin trees of the city of Nagara, which is more than 30 miles away from the Acropolis. Ananda knelt beside the Buddha and asked softly, "Buddha, what attitude should we take towards women in the future?"
The Buddha looked at the disciples kneeling around him, and then he said to Ananda, "Ananda! Remember the old women as your mother, the older women as your sisters, and the younger women as your sisters!
After answering the above question, the Buddha explained everything about the Tuvi, the construction of the pagoda, and so on. Ananda, who was emotionally fragile, thought that this was the last commandment of the Buddha, and his heart was sad for a while, and he unconsciously shed tears, he did not dare to kneel beside the Buddha again, and quickly ran to the garden and cried!
Ananda thought that the Buddha was about to become nirvana, and that all the other great disciples had already attained enlightenment, but he was the only one, so who would he be enlightened in the future?
When the Buddha saw that Ananda was not around, he called someone to call him and said to him again: Ananda, don't be sad! When there is a meeting, there is a separation, there is prosperity and there is decline, don't I always tell you? The world is impermanent, there must be life and death, and the broken car is maintained by repairing, and that is not a long-term solution, and the promising body will be damaged, and the Buddha will take care of you in the Dharma-nature. You have served me so long, you have been industrious and patient, you have lacked nothing to me, and I will repay you with this merit. If you concentrate on the path, it won't be long before you will be free from the bondage of your afflictions and you will be able to attain enlightenment!
When the Buddha said this, Ananda wept so much that he couldn't cry with gratitude, and the Buddha looked at everyone and said to everyone, "Bhikkhus! Ananda has served me very faithfully for many years, he is very gentle and kind, he has heard about it, and he will not forget it, and his merits will shine in the world in the future!"
Ananda covered his face with his hands and left the Buddha in mourning. Everyone present was in tears, but what was the use of tears like this? The most important thing was to ask the Buddha the question of how to make the Dharma stay for a long time, and after everyone had discussed it, they found Ananda and asked the Buddha: First, after the Buddha became Nirvana, who did he take as his teacher? Second, after the Buddha Nirvana, what did he do to settle down? Third, after the Buddha Nirvana, how did the wicked people be subdued? Fourth, after the Buddha Nirvana, how can the collection of the scriptures make people believe?
The Buddha replied, as usual, in a kind and sincere manner, "Ananda, you and everyone should remember that you should follow the precepts as your teacher, and settle down according to the four thoughts. If you walk according to the law, this is where my Dharmakaya dwells!
When the Buddha heard the Buddha's words, everyone was even more moved! They were even more saddened! What an authoritative voice this is! The Buddha entered Nirvana in this way! When the disciples from all over heard the news of the Buddha's Nirvana, they all gathered together, and Ananda thought that during the Buddha's lifetime, few women could come to worship in front of him, so he first asked the bhikshunis and lay women to come and worship the Buddha's body, so it can be seen that he will always be a sympathizer for women!
After the Buddha's Nirvana, when Mahakala presided over the puja, he rebuked Ananda on the spot in front of all the disciples: "The dirt is not exhausted, and you must not live here." Ananda had to say that he would reflect deeply.
That night, he practiced diligently, meditated, let go of everything, and attained enlightenment in the middle of the night. Ananda immediately went to Kasya, who closed the door and only promised to let Ananda in through the keyhole. Ananda entered the room through the keyhole, and this supernatural power proved that he had attained enlightenment, and Kasa made him sit on the throne of Leo and tell the scriptures.
The first collection of scriptures, such as the Long Ahama Sutra, the Middle Ahama Sutra, the Miscellaneous Ahama Sutra, the Additional One Ahama Sutra, as well as the Parable Sutra and the Dharma Sentence Sutra, were all recited by His Holiness Ananda in this famous first assembly of holy scriptures.
According to the "Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty", Ananda left Magadha before Nirvana and went to Visha. At this time, King Asah, who was about to go to war with Vaishali, thought to himself that if he was destroyed in Magadha, the bones would not be given to Vaishali, and if he was destroyed by Visha, they would not give the bones to Magadha, so he planned to enter Nirvana in the middle of the Ganges River, where the two countries meet.
When Ananda crossed the boundary river between the two countries, he flew into the air from the boat and emitted all kinds of colored light into Nirvana, and the Eucharist was divided into two halves, so that the ashes relics fell on both sides of the river. The kings of the two countries then took their own relics and built stupas in their own countries to worship, one was in the Dalin Chongge Lecture Hall in the north of the city of Visha, and the other was next to the bamboo forest retreat outside the royal house, called the Half-Body Relic Stupa of Venerable Ananda.
Magadha and Vishali were relieved of their suspicions because of the cause of Ananda's destruction, and no longer went to war, saving the lives and property of tens of millions of people. The sacrifice of Venerable Ananda is truly great and noble!
Although Venerable Ananda has perished, his merits to the Buddha, his contribution to the Dharma, and his gentleness, kindness, humility and forbearance will always live in the hearts of the Buddha's disciples.
In a past life, the Bodhisattva was an ordinary mortal, reaching the age of sixteen, with a very cheerful and open-minded will. He is well-read, and has not studied the classics unsystematically. He pondered deeply about the truth of various scriptures, what scriptures are the most true, and what "Tao" is the most stable. After thinking deeply, he exclaimed: "Only the Buddhist scriptures are the most true, and the way of non-action is the most stable." And he said, "Let me have peace in my heart of the true way."
His parents wanted to give him a wife, and he said uneasily: "The greatest evil scourge is not greater than **, if you bewitch the arrival of women, then morality will be lost." Won't I run away and be devoured like a jackal in the future?"
So he fled to other countries and sold his labor to make ends meet. At that time, there was an old farmer, who had no heirs in his old age, and occasionally picked up a girl on the way, which was gorgeous, so he happily raised and grew up, and was seeking a man as a couple. He searched all over the country, but there was no suitable person. The old man has been employing the Bodhisattva for five years, and observing his conduct, from small to huge, his heart is beautiful. He said to him, "Young man, my house is rich. I will marry my daughter to you, and you will be my heir!" and she gave her to him. This woman has miraculous virtues that deceive the bodhisattva's heart.
Not long after getting married, the Bodhisattva consciously thought, "I have seen the scriptures of the Buddhas, such as the use of color as fire, people as moths, moths greedy for fire, throwing themselves into fire, and eventually being burned to death by fire. This old man burns my body with lustful fire! He uses his possessions as bait to hook my mouth, and he deprives me of my virtue with the filth of his family!"
He walked more than 100 miles and rested in an empty pavilion. The owner of the pavilion came to him and asked, "Who are you?" and he replied, "I am here to spend the night." So the lord of the pavilion took him back to his house. He saw the beautiful mattress of the pavilion owner's house, and many dazzling treasures. There was a woman with a face like her own wife, who deceived the Bodhisattva's heart and lived with him for five years. His wisdom came to his senses again, and he thought, "Lewdness is a flea, a thing that can maim the body and endanger life!
When he was spending the night on the road, he saw another one wearing it
A treasure of the court, a woman who looks like a wife. He was as confused as before, and lived with her for ten years. Then he wisely realized, "My karma is too heavy to run away there." So he swore solemnly: "I will never stay again." He fled again.
He hurried through the night, and saw a large mansion in the distance, and wanted to get around it, so he hastened his walk, and the gatekeeper of the house cried out, "Who walks here at night?" and he replied, "I will go to the front and pass through here." The gatekeeper said, "It is forbidden to pass here!" and a woman came out of the house, and called him to come to him, and he saw a man who looked the same as his wife. The woman said, "You have fled countless times, and I have sworn to be your wife, where do you want to flee?" The Bodhisattva mused, "Is it so difficult to remove the root of greed, to such an extent?" Then the thought of the four impermanences arose in his heart, and he said, "I want to destroy all kinds of desires in the Three Realms with the meditation of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness.
When the thought of the "four impermanences" arose in his heart, his ghostly wife was immediately disillusioned, and his heart shone brightly, and when he saw the Buddhas standing in front of him, he explained to him the determination of empty life, no wishes, and no thoughts, and received the shamun ordination before the Buddha, becoming an invincible teacher.
Wisdom is a great blessing in life, with a smart mind, clear reason, when listening to the scriptures, thinking about the meaning of the law, smart people often understand quickly, in the wisdom of hearing is easier to improve. But if you don't know how to be smart at the same time, you will also go to the opposite of being smart, that is, being smart, and this kind of cleverness is mostly reflected in shaking a clever and selling a good job, but if you let this kind of cleverness develop, it is easy to generate egoistic misconceptions.
Among the ancient Buddhist laymen, there were people who had committed such mistakes, but fortunately, there was good knowledge at that time to help him stop the loss in time and avoid the further expansion of evil views. For example, when he read "Guanyin Bodhisattva Pumen Pin", he felt that the sentence in the scriptures "curses all poisons, and those who want to harm the body, recite the power of Guanyin, and return it to himself", he felt that this was too cruel to the perpetrator, so he privately changed "return to me" to "It's okay at both ends".
This change is not trivial, because the scriptures are said by the Buddha, and it is a great mistake for ordinary people to easily delete and change, but fortunately, there is a great knowledge of Buddha Yin Zen Master next to Master Su, and Master Buddha Yin Zen Master admonished Master Su and said: "How can you rewrite the scriptures indiscriminately, you must know that the sentence "still written by me" on the "Pumen Pin" is the salvation of the perpetrator, and it is precisely because of the great power of Guanyin Master that the perpetrator can make himself suffer, so that he does not dare to harm people easily, and you change it to 'It's okay at both ends' Isn't it conniving at the victim?" After listening to the words of the Buddha Yin Zen Master, Master Su hurriedly repented.
In the past, when the Buddha lived in the world, there was a monk who wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle and went to a secluded forest near the river, where he meditated alone under a tree, full of hope for the attainment of the Tao. However, this monk, although he is in a secluded forest, lives a quiet life, and seems to have no desire on the outside, but the ** in his heart is always ready to move.
If you encounter a bad climate or a rough diet, you will feel troubled and even complain, and your mind will fluctuate with the external environment such as color, sound, fragrance, taste, and touch, sometimes joyful, sometimes sad, and your heart will never be stable. Day after day, spring and autumn, twelve years have passed, and this bhikshu still has not attained enlightenment, so he is troubled and thinks, "Why am I still an ordinary man after I work so hard?"
Knowing that the cause for the attainment of this bhikshu was coming, the Buddha took the form of a samun, went to the forest where the bhikshu lived, and worked hard with the bhikshu. One day, when the night was falling and the moon was high, the two monks saw a turtle slowly crawling up the shore from the river, and a hungry fox was coming in the distance, anxious to find food.
In order to save his life, the turtle hurriedly retracted its head, tail, and limbs into its shell. When the fox left, the tortoise, which had finally saved its life, slowly stretched its head and tail and limbs outward, and finally crawled back into the river.
Both saw this scene, and the bhikshu told the Buddha that the turtle had a life-protecting shell, so the fox could not harm it.
Hua Shamen replied, "The people of the world are not as good as this turtle! When the turtle is in danger, it knows how to close its head and tail and limbs. However, people in the world are completely ignorant of the impermanence of ghosts peeping at all times, and if they want to take their own lives, they indulge their eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and chase the external six dusts of color, sound, fragrance, taste, touch, and dharma, and create all kinds of negative karma, so that the demons of affliction, death, and illness can take advantage of them. All this is due to the inability of the mind to make the decision, which will invoke the bitter fruit of the flow of life and death.
Huashamen then exhorted the bhikshus with a poem: "The Tibetan six are like turtles, the will is like a city, the wisdom and the devil fight, and if you win, you will be fine." Hearing this, the bhikshu was enlightened, and he gave up all kinds of cravings for the sights, sounds, fragrances, tastes, and touches of the world, and devoted himself to his practice, and soon attained the attainment of arhat fruit.
When the World-Honored One attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, he said, "All sentient beings have the wisdom and virtue of being like this, but they do not attain it because of delusional attachment." "Ordinary sentient beings cling to the five aggregates as real, and become greedy, murderous, and fornicatory. If one can raise awareness, stick to the six doors, reflect at all times, do not climb, do not cling, do not be greedy, and are not troubled, then the compassion and wisdom inherent in one's nature will surely shine in the ten directions.
When a monk came to the donor's house, he saw him gargling his mouth with a poplar stick, applying a bezoar to his forehead, wearing a shell on his head, holding a bilberry in his hand, and sticking it to his forehead, with a very respectful attitude.
When the monk saw him like this, he asked puzzledly, "What are you doing?"
The benefactor said proudly, "I want to pretend to be auspicious." ”
"What benefits can I get by pretending to be auspicious?" the monk asked.
In this way, you can get great merit, such as the death to be alive, the bound to be liberated, the beaten to be forgiven, and so on. ”
Hearing the benefactor's ignorant words, the monk smiled and said, "If you can get these benefits by pretending to be auspicious, that's really good." But tell me, where did this bezoar come from?"
"The bezoar is taken from the ribcage of the cow. The donor said.
"If you apply this bezoar, you can get good luck and good fortune, so why is it that the ox is forced to go to the trailer and ride with ropes and chains, and has to endure the torment of whips, hunger, thirst and fatigue?"
"That's how the cow lives. The donor nodded in agreement, but he didn't understand what it was for.
"Why is it that the ox itself has an auspicious bezoar, but it cannot relieve itself of its suffering?" Seeing that the benefactor was still confused, the monk explained again: "The ox has a bezoar, but it can't relieve your own suffering, and you just rub some bezoar on your forehead, how can you save your own predicament?" After listening to the monk's teachings, the donor felt that it made sense, so he was silent.
The monk asked him again, "What is this snow-white hard thing, which can make a sound, and where did it come from?"
"It's shells that come out of the sea. The donor replied.
The monk explained: "It was obviously abandoned on land by the waves and suffocated to death by the scorching sun. If so, how can it be said that it is auspicious? The worm lives with the shell, and hides in the shell day and night. But when it dies, the shell can't save it, and now you're only wearing the shell temporarily, how can you save your bad luck?" When the donor heard this, he nodded again and again, silently.
The monk knew that his words had already moved the other party and that it was time to save him, so he continued, "You tell me, what is that thing that the world regards as a joy pill and attaches great importance to it?"
"That's Bilgo!" The donor said.
"The fruit of the tree is the fruit of the tree. When a man wants to get it, he throws a stone at the ground, and the bilgo and the branch fall to the ground together. Because of the presence of fruit, the branches and leaves are knocked down. ”
"That's true. ”
"So, even if you have it, what good fortune is there? The fruit grows on a tree, but it cannot keep it. How can someone protect humanity if someone throws it to get it, and the branches and leaves fall at the same time, and they are burned into firewood and cannot save themselves?"
After listening to the sincere words of the monk, the confusion in the benefactor's heart was immediately solved. He finally understood that there is no external thing in this world that can dominate the good and evil.
Bodhicitta Statement: External help is important, but only oneself can truly dominate oneself. As the benefactor in the text realizes, there is nothing external in the world that can govern good and evil. Therefore, you must learn to be your own master.
One day, the Buddha said to the King of Meditation: Before the immeasurable monks, when the pure lotus eyes came to the world to spread the Dharma to the people, an arhat was walking on the road and met a woman with a sad face named Guangmu, who devoutly offered food to the arhats, and the arhats asked her, "Do you have anything on your mind? ”
Guangmu said: "Because my deceased mother did not believe in cause and effect and created bad karma during her lifetime, I was worried that she would fall into the evil path, so I did good deeds for her on the day of her death. But I still think about my mother very much, and I don't know where she is reborn now?"
Knowing Guangmu's filial piety, Arhat made observations and found that Guangmu's mother was suffering greatly in the hell path, and the arhat asked Guangmu, "What did your mother do when she was alive? She is now living a miserable life in the hell path. ”
Guangmu replied: "My mother liked to eat fish and turtles when she was alive, especially the eggs of fish and turtles, and she often fried or boiled them, and feasted on them, so she could eat hundreds of fish eggs in one bite, so in her whole life, I am afraid that there are tens of millions of fish and turtles that die in her mouth! May I ask Your Holiness, how can I save my mother?"
Luo Han sighed when he heard this: "There are too many bad karmas created by people in the world for the sake of a short three-inch tongue. You can recite and worship the holy name of the Pure Lotus Nyorai with all sincerity, and you and your mother will be blessed immeasurably. ”
When Guangmu heard this, he immediately sold his property, looked for the holy image of the pure lotus flower, and worshiped with all his heart.
One night, Guangmu dreamed that the pure lotus flower was shining with gold and was as tall as a mountain, and he told Guangmu, "Your mother will soon be reborn in your house, and she will be able to speak after birth, and she will tell you the cause and effect of all this." ”
After a period of time, the slave maid of Guangmu's family gave birth to a son, and on the third day after the child was born, she tearfully told Guangmu: "I am your mother, since I have been separated from you by yin and yang, I have fallen into the great hell and suffered immeasurably. It's just that I have a lot of sinful karma, and although I am reborn as a human being in this life, I am poor and lowly and short-lived, and I will die at the age of thirteen, and then I will fall into hell and continue to suffer. ”
After hearing this, Guangmu knew that this person was reincarnated by his mother, and his heart was filled with joy and sorrow, and he asked, "Mother, do you know why you fell into the great hell and suffered in the first place?"
The son of the slave replied, "I have fallen into the evil path because of my killing of sentient beings and slandering the Three Jewels, and if it were not for your dedication, I would still be suffering in hell." ”
"What is the condition in hell?"
The son of the slave replied bitterly: "Alas, it is so bitter that I really can't bear to mention it again, and the pain of a thousand knives is indescribable!"
When Guangmu heard this, he shed tears for his mother and the beings who were suffering in hell, and made a vow to the air: "May my mother be free from the suffering of hell forever!
