Chapter 154: Cultivation is difficult
It is difficult to practice, and it is even more difficult to practice meditation, and Yu Zhenyi's state of mind can be described as rare.
During the meditation period, sitting meditation and regular walking meditation are usually performed at the same time and throughout the day. One hour is the standard time, and forty-five minutes is fine. For formal walking meditation, the meditator can choose a path about 20 steps long and walk slowly back and forth along the path.
Walking meditation is also very helpful in everyday life. A short period of time before meditation, such as ten minutes, is very helpful for mental concentration. In addition to this, the awareness developed in walking meditation is very helpful to us, because the body is always moving around throughout the day.
Walking meditation develops the balance, accuracy, and persistence of awareness, and it is possible to observe the profound Dharma and even attain enlightenment while walking meditation! In fact, a practitioner who does not practice meditation before meditation is like opening a car that runs out of battery, and it is difficult to start the engine of mindfulness while sitting in meditation
Walking meditation consists of paying attention to each step of the walk, and if walking fairly fast, paying attention to the movement of the legs, while meditating in the mind: left, right, left, right. and be aware of the actual sensation of the entire leg. If you walk slowly, pay attention to every lifting, moving, and lowering of your foot, and try to fully focus on the feeling of walking, no matter what the situation. When you reach the end of the trail, stand, turn and start again, pay attention to what is happening.
Don't look down at your feet unless you encounter an obstacle on the ground, because it doesn't help you to keep the image of your feet in your mind as you work on awareness. You have to focus on the sensation itself, and that's not visual. For many people, it is a remarkable discovery when he is able to perceive purely the causes of the body such as light, pain, cold, heat, etc.
Usually we divide walking meditation into three different movements: lifting, moving, and lowering the feet. In order to maintain precise awareness, we clearly distinguish between these movements, and at the beginning, we gently recite each action in our minds and let the awareness indeed follow clearly and powerfully until the end of the action. A subtle point is that when the foot starts to move downward, you should immediately pay attention to the downward movement.
Let's think about the movement of the foot lift, we all know its traditional name, but in meditation it is important to gain insight and understand the essence of the whole foot lift behind the traditional concept, starting with wanting to lift the foot and continuing through the actual process that contains many sensations.
We work being aware of the lifting of our feet, not to over-feel, and not to lose sight of our goal because of our weak feelings, but to aim clearly and accurately at the cause, which helps to balance our efforts. When the effort is balanced and the goal is clear, the mind is firmly grounded in the cause of awareness. It is only when these three elements are present that precision, accuracy, and mind are present that it can be developed. Of course, it must be the concentration and single-mindedness of the mind, and its characteristic is that the consciousness will not be scattered or scattered.
As we get closer to the process of lifting our feet, we see that it looks like a line of ants crawling across the road in rows, and when you look closer, it starts to shake and tremble, and when you get closer, it scatters into ants. So we knew that the original concept of the whole line was just an illusion, and it became clear that it was made up of ants connected by one.
In this way, if you look at the process of lifting your feet accurately from beginning to end, then the wisdom of the mind will be closer to the cause of observation. The closer you get, the more you can see the clear and true nature of the foot lifting process. This is an amazing fact of the human mind, when wisdom arises and deepens through contemplation, the reality of existence is revealed in a clear order, and as the wisdom progresses, the meditator becomes aware of that order.
The first wisdom that a meditator experiences is often the beginning to understand that it is not through the intellect or the power of thinking, but rather intuitively – the process of lifting the feet is made up of different mental and color methods, which occur in pairs and in pairs. The sensations of the body (the color method) and the awareness (the mental method) are combined, but they are different from each other. We will begin to see the whole picture of the sequence of inner events and bodily sensations, and we will be able to understand the cause and effect of the relationship between the mind and the color.
We will see very vividly and in real time how the mind causes the color to move, and when we want to lift our feet, the feeling of the body moving, and how the color method causes the mind to go to a shaded place when the body feels very hot. This understanding of cause and effect can take many different forms, but for us, when it arises, life becomes much simpler than before, and is nothing more than a series of mental and color causal continuums. This is the second wisdom in the development of traditional vipassana.
With the development of the determination, we can see more deeply that the phenomena that occur in the process of lifting the feet are impermanent, selfless, and appear and disappear at an incredible rate. This is the next level of wisdom, and the next view of existence, which is the ability to see directly from the awareness of concentration. There is no human behind these colours, and they arise and disappear, according to the law of cause and effect, a process of emptiness. This illusion of movement and solidity is like a movie, as far as we can understand it, it is full of people and objects, and it is no different from the real world, but if you slow down the speed of the film, you will see that it is actually composed of a static picture of a grid of negatives.
When one keeps oneself mindful during the solitary lifting of the feet, and is mindful of the movements, with the mind to see the nature of what is happening, the path to liberation taught by the Buddha begins in the present moment.
The Noble Eightfold Path, as the Buddha said, is known as the Middle Way, which consists of the eight elements: correct view, correct thinking, right speech, right karma, right life, right diligence, right mindfulness, and right concentration. In each of those times when mindfulness is strong, the five elements of the Noble Eightfold Path, Positive Diligence, Righteous Mindfulness, Righteous Concentration, and Righteous Thinking, are active in our consciousness, and at the same time, correct views arise as we begin to comprehend the nature of the Dharma. When these five elements of the Noble Eightfold Path arise at the same time, the mind is completely liberated from all kinds of afflictions.
When we use our pure mind to see the nature of what is happening, we are no longer bound by foolishness, but only see phenomena coming and going. When wisdom gives us an intuitive understanding of the process of cause and effect, and how the mind and color are related to each other, we no longer have a wrong idea of the nature of the law. Since we see that each cause lasts only one thing, we no longer have illusions about permanence. It is also because we understand impermanence and the suffering behind it that we are freed from the illusion that the body and mind are not suffering.
Intuitive selflessness frees us from arrogance and the misconception of having a permanent self. In carefully observing the process of lifting the feet, we see the suffering of the body and mind, and as a result, are no longer bound by the thirst for love. The three states of mind, known as the Dharma of Imperishability—self-slowness, wrong views, and thirst for love—make existence eternal in samsara, which is a cycle of thirst, love, and suffering, caused by ignorance of the ultimate truth. Prudently focusing on walking meditation will destroy this imperishable dharma and bring us closer to liberation.
You'll find that there are so many incredible possibilities for focusing on lifting your feet, and it's just about moving your feet forward and then placing them on the ground! Of course, the above description of the depth and detail of awareness in walking meditation also applies to concentrating on the abdominal movements, as well as all other body movements, during meditation.
The Buddha described walking meditation as having five additional and special merits. First of all, those who practice walking meditation regularly can increase their endurance for long journeys, which was especially important in the time of the Buddha, when bhikshus and nuns had no means of transportation other than their feet. If you meditate today, try to imagine yourself as a bhikshu and contemplate this merit that will increase your physical strength.
The second merit of walking meditation is to increase the endurance of meditation itself. Walking meditation requires double diligence, and in addition to the general mechanical diligence used to lift the feet, it also requires the mental diligence and awareness of the movements, which is exactly the positive diligence of the Eightfold Path. If this doubling of effort continues throughout the movement of raising the feet, moving forward and lowering, it will strengthen the vigorous and stable energy of the mind, which every practitioner knows is very important for meditation.
Thirdly, according to the Buddha, the balance between zazen and walking meditation is good for health, and alternating between the two will speed up the progress of the practice. Obviously, it is difficult to meditate when you are sick, and sitting for too long can lead to many physical disorders, but changing postures and walking meditation movements will revive the muscles, improve blood circulation and prevent diseases.
The fourth merit of walking meditation is to aid digestion. Indigestion can lead to a lot of uncomfortable feelings, which can be an obstacle to practice. Walking meditation can promote gastrointestinal peristalsis and keep it smooth. After meals and before meditation, there should be a period of walking meditation to expel drowsiness. Practicing meditation immediately after waking up in the morning is also a great way to build mindfulness while also avoiding dozing off during the first meditation of the day.
One of the last (but not least) merits of walking meditation is the establishment of lasting concentration. Since the mind is focused on each part of the movement as it walks, the concentration is continuous. Each step lays the groundwork for the next meditation session, helping the mind to stay on the ground at all times – and finally revealing the nature of reality at the deepest level. So I use the analogy of a car battery, if the car doesn't start all the time, the battery will run out. It is difficult for a practitioner who has not practiced walking meditation to sit on a cushion and achieve anything, but a person who is diligent in walking meditation will automatically maintain a strong mind and a solid concentration while meditating.
Once upon a time, there was a king named Chara, whose queen had never given birth, and King Chala was very sad. One day the king called the queen and said, "Go back to your mother's house, and when you find a cure for the child, come back as soon as you find a remedy for the child, so that I may not be troubled any more." ”
The queen was very uncomfortable, but she had no choice but to cry goodbye to King Chara. On the way back to her mother's house, the more she thought about it, the more sad she became, and she felt that it was really not interesting to live, so she decided to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff, and then walked through the woods and climbed to the top of the mountain.
When the Heavenly Emperor Shi learned about this, he felt very uncomfortable. The Emperor of Heaven thought: "This queen, in her previous life, was my sister, and now she wants to commit suicide because she can't have children, I must save her." The Emperor Shakti came down from heaven to the queen, gave her a fairy fruit on a wooden plate, and said, "Sister, eat this fruit, and you will surely have a good son, who will become a famous hero in the world." If the king doubts the origin of this son of yours, you can give him this wooden plate. This is an artifact in the Heavenly Palace, which can be used as the best proof of your son's origin. ”
The queen swallowed the fruit as she said, and when she looked back, she saw that the Heavenly Emperor was gone. I just walked a few steps, and I felt that my body was heavy, and it turned out that I was pregnant. She returned to the palace with joy and told the king of the events of the day. Of course, King Chara was also overjoyed, and the couple looked forward to the early birth of their son. At the end of October, the queen gave birth to a son.
After a few years, the child grew up slowly, but this child looked very ugly, and the world again
I can't find a second person who is so ugly. But ugly as ugly it was, the boy was very clever and capable, quick-witted, and powerful, and could grasp an elephant with both hands, and leap up to catch an eagle, and roar like a lion. His fame spread all over the country, and everyone sighed that he had such great skills, but he was so ugly.
When the ugly prince grew up, King Chara hired a princess from a neighboring country as a wife for him. The princess's name was Moonlight, and she was as bright and dignified as the fifteenth moon, and possessed all the virtues of the world. She had seven younger sisters, all of whom were extraordinarily beautiful. On the day of the wedding, the queen was afraid that the moonlight would know that her son was very ugly and disgusted with him, so she lied to her and said: "There is a custom in our country that it is most taboo for husband and wife to see each other during the day. ”
Moonlight believed it and replied respectfully, "Yes! ”
Since then, the ugly prince has been in and out every night, and he has never let the moonlight see his appearance clearly.
At that time, seven nations were enemies of King Chara, and the whole country was worried about it. The ugly prince thought to himself: "So many countries are enemies of our country, and they are often at war, and there is little peace, and the people are displaced. I should come up with a solution to this problem. He thought, "I'm so ugly, if I let the moonlight see it, she will be very angry." Angry, she will do this and this, and then how I will ...... If this plan is realized, it will certainly bring peace to the world and the people to be happy from now on. Then the ugly prince went to the queen and said to her, "I want to see my wife and see what she looks like." ”
The queen said, "Your wife is as beautiful as a fairy." But you look so ugly, as soon as the two of you meet, she will be very angry and throw you away, so you will have to fight a bachelor for the rest of your life, so you must not meet. ”
But the ugly prince asked again and again, and the queen thought, "This child is indeed quite pitiful, and he has been married for so long, and he does not know what his wife looks like." He promised to try to let the prince see the moonlight, but repeatedly told the prince: "Don't reveal your identity, don't let the moonlight know who you are." ”
One day, when everything was arranged, the queen went to the stable with the moonlight to look at the horses. The Ugly Prince is dressed as a horse breeder. When Moonlight saw the ugly prince, she couldn't help but be surprised, and exclaimed, "This horse is so ugly! ”
The queen said, "This is the groom who raised horses for the first king, and he was very dedicated to raising horses, so he was left behind." ”
A few days later, the queen took the moonlight to see the elephant, and met the ugly prince again in the elephant stable. After a few times, Yueguang couldn't help but be a little suspicious, and thought: "How can I see this ugly monster everywhere I go? Could it be that he is the crown prince?" So he made a request to the queen: "I have been married for so long, and I have never seen my husband's face, and I really want to see my husband's face." ”
The queen had no choice but to pretend to agree. The queen asked the younger brother of the ugly prince to pretend to be a prince, and passed through the palace gate with the prince's guard of honor and attendants, and then watched the procession by moonlight. Moonlight mistakenly took the ugly prince's younger brother for a prince, and was secretly happy to see him look good and majestic. However, according to the ugly prince's strategy, it is good to let Princess Moonlight see her true face.
But the ugly prince didn't want to see his wife, so he made his mother angry, so he had to find another way. One day he knew that the princess had gone to the garden to play, and he followed. The ugly prince climbed onto a fruit tree, plucked the fruit, and threw it at Princess Moonlight, just on the princess's back. When the princess saw that it was this ugly monster throwing fruit at her, she was furious in her heart, and then she thought again: "How can this ugly monster have such courage to dare to be rude to me? Besides, how can he go in and out of the royal garden casually? Could it be that he is my husband?" Thinking of this, she did not have a seizure and endured it.
That night, seeing that the prince was already asleep, Princess Moonlight secretly lit a lamp and took a photo in front of the bed. "Ah, it's really him!" Princess Moonlight hated and feared, ashamed and annoyed, and ran back to her parents' house overnight.
When the queen learned of this, she was very angry, and called the ugly prince to him, and rebuked, "Why did you let her see your appearance and run back? But the ugly prince said, "Mother, don't worry. Princess Moonlight's anger is a blessing for the people of the world, and from now on, the people of the world can support their parents with peace of mind. So he said goodbye to his mother and set out to find Princess Moonlight.
When the ugly prince arrives in the country where Princess Moonlight lives, he first joins a pottery workshop as a worker. The pottery he made was so beautiful that it had never been seen before, and the owner of the workshop was very pleased, saying, "Such good pottery, ordinary people are not worthy of use, and should be presented to the king." "Hurriedly send these pottery to the palace. The king was also very fond of them, and ordered them to be given to his beloved daughters. When the princesses saw these delicate and beautiful pottery, they were full of admiration. But Princess Moonlight recognized at once that it was the work of the Ugly Prince, and knew that the Ugly Prince had come to look for her, and the anger in her heart had not yet been removed, and she swore not to see this ugly monster, so she smashed all the pottery.
When the ugly prince learned the news, he went to work as a dyeer in a dyeing house. He dyed a piece of cloth with all sorts of acrobatic patterns on it, and the figures were lifelike, a rare treasure in the world. The owner of the dyeing house was busy presenting the cloth to the king. The king was so pleased that he showed the cloth to his eight daughters. All the princesses were amazed and enjoyed. Only Princess Moonlight knew that this was the work of the ugly prince again, and she didn't even look at it.
So the ugly prince went to the house of one of the ministers, and fed the horses for the minister, and the horses that he bred were fat and strong. The minister was very happy and asked, "What other skills do you have?"
The ugly prince said, "I can also cook good dishes." No matter what kind of flavor dish, I will make it. The minister asked him to give it a try, and it was really good, so he asked him to make a feast and send it to the palace. When the king tasted it, he exclaimed, "Ah, I have never eaten such a good meal!" and called the minister to him, and asked, "Who makes these meals?"
The king immediately summoned the ugly prince and appointed him as the head of the imperial dining room, who was in charge of the royal family's diet. One day, the king asked him to make soup for the princesses. In order to make his plan come true, the ugly prince deliberately fell when delivering soup and splashed all the bowls of soup on himself. The princesses were all taken aback, lest the ugly prince fall, but only the princess moonlight did not squint.
When Emperor Shi learned of these circumstances, he said with great emotion: "What a sacrifice this boy has made for the happiness of the people! Let me help him! I only need to lure the kings of the seven enemy countries here, and then the world will be peaceful from now on, and the people will be able to live and work in peace and contentment." So, the Emperor of Heaven forged the handwriting of Princess Moonlight's father and sent letters to the kings of the seven countries, saying that he wanted to marry Princess Moonlight to the king and form an alliance forever.
The kings of the seven countries were very happy to receive the letter, and each prepared a rich gift and came with a team to greet his relatives. When they were about to reach the country where Princess Moonlight was located, the seven welcoming teams met. Everyone asked each other about their intentions, and knew that they were all here to marry Princess Moonlight, so they quarreled. This one said that that one was fake, and that one said that this was too nonsense, and everyone took out the handwritten letter from Princess Moonlight's father, and then they realized that they were all fooled. The kings were furious, and they all said that it was so hateful for Princess Moonlight's father to tease them in this way, so they discussed: "Let us unite to destroy his country, and kill his whole family, so as to wash away the shame we have suffered!" The seven kings sent messengers to rebuke Princess Moonlight's father: "How dare you use a daughter to tease our seven kingdoms! We will immediately raise an army to ask for the guilt, and the day of mourning for your country is about to come." "While returning to his country, he summoned the army and killed him.
Princess Moonlight's father received a letter from the messenger and heard the news that the Seven Kingdoms had sent troops, and he was frightened, and thought, "What kind of sin did I do in my previous life to let me encounter such a flying disaster." The king called Princess Moonlight and scolded: "You are married, you have become someone else's wife, you should marry a chicken and a dog, whether your husband is smart or stupid, good looking, good and unproductive, it is your destiny, it is impossible to change it." You can't start from the beginning and be filial to your in-laws, but you think your husband is not good, and you return to your parents' house, which is why you caused such a disaster for me. I have no other choice but to cut you into seven pieces and give them to the seven kings for their forgiveness. ”
Princess Moonlight cried and said, "Please calm your father's anger and stop killing me." Please ask my father to recruit talents, I think I will definitely be able to find capable people to resolve this disaster. The king listened to his daughter's words and immediately made a job list be posted. The list said: "Whoever can resolve this disaster in his country, marry Princess Moonlight to him." ”
When the ugly prince saw that the opportunity had come, he hurriedly unveiled the list of talents and said to the king, "Please build a high platform at once, and let me come up to the stage to pray, and this calamity will be resolved." "The high platform has just been built, and the military horses of the Seven Kingdoms have already been killed. The whole nation trembled and pinned all their hopes on the prayers of the ugly prince. The king urged the ugly prince to come to power quickly.
But the ugly prince pretended to be sick, and said, "Oh, I am so sick that I can't walk a step, so I have to ask Princess Moonlight to help me to the stage." Princess Moonlight was afraid of being cut into seven pieces, so she took the ugly prince's arm and forced him to lift him up to the high platform.
The ugly prince stood on a high platform and said to the kings of the seven kingdoms in a voice like the roar of a lion: "God has made you kings so that you may be merciful to the people and let them live and work in peace and contentment. Aren't you afraid that your country and yourselves will be punished in the future for your iniquity?"
The voice of the ugly prince was like a thunderbolt, which shook the armies of the Seven Kingdoms and made them all look panicked and tremble, and the faint-hearted people were even stunned. As soon as the seven kings saw that the situation was not right, they immediately prepared to withdraw their troops.
At this time, the ugly prince said to Princess Moonlight's father, "You have seven daughters, and if you want them to find a son-in-law, there is no more suitable than the king of the seven kingdoms in front of you." You might as well marry your daughter to them, so that everyone will become in-laws, turn hostility into friendship, and the world will be peaceful and the people will be happy. ”
The king said, "Yes, it would be great if that were the case," and he gave the other seven daughters to each of the seven kings. Of course, the seven kings were very happy, and the people of all the nations rejoiced in unison for this great event. At this time, Princess Moonlight's father and his subjects learned that the ugly prince was Princess Moonlight's husband, and everyone was very grateful for his bravery and resourcefulness. Princess Moonlight also relieved his old regrets.
The king sent a number of men to escort the couple home. Since then, the nine countries have been mutual
Friendship, no more wars and disputes. A few years later, the ugly prince's father died, and the ugly prince ascended the throne and became king. He granted amnesty to prisoners, lightly taxed and paid light taxes, and used the Fa-rectification to educate the people so that they could live a happy life. Somehow, his appearance changed day by day, and he became more beautiful day by day, and the couple lived a happy life ever since.
The plaque above us reads the words "Nine Realms Return Together", and the word "return" is a combination of coming and going.
In Buddhism, we talk about this word called "Dharma Realm." Generally speaking, we are in the world, and we say that the universe is the universe up and down, and the universe is a world throughout the ages.
But what about the Dharma realm that we talk about in the Dharma, it also has a layered meaning.
It is the merits of this type of sentient beings that make it appear in such a world, and the quality of the world presented by each sentient being is also different because of the difference in its good and evil cause and effect.
So as far as this Nine Dharma Realm is concerned, like us human beings, we belong to the human world, like this person and above there is the world of heavenly beings, then there are also the world of saints above the heavenly people, like arhats, their lands, like bodhisattvas, also have their Dharma realm. The worst are the beings who have gone to hell, from the lowest to the highest, there are a total of nine worlds level.
So this "Nine Worlds Together" refers to a dharma, that is, if we know that there is a world of bliss, then we can believe in its existence, recite Nam no Amitabha, and come to this mental connection with him.
If you recite this until you are proficient and successful, then when we transcend in our lives, Amitabha Buddha will come and guide us to the Western Blissful World.
So in the whole Dharma Realm, as described in the scriptures, from the dojo like the one we have now in Guanyin Bodhisattva, there is Manjushri Bodhisattva in Wutai Mountain, and Jizo King Bodhisattva in Jiuhua Mountain, and each of them is in the same Dharma Realm, which is the Dharma Realm of the Bodhisattva, which is the highest.
So what about a bodhisattva like this, who will also be reborn in the Western Elysium in the future. Like us, when we practice in our world, everyone says that we should practice the Pure Land Method, recite the Buddha, and survive in the Western Elysium. As for the beings of the Nine Dharma Realms, I hope that they can all be reborn in the Western Elysium in the same way, which is called the Nine Realms Returning to the Same World.
But why do we put together this "return" with a go and a to? Generally speaking, our return is the return of returning, what does this mean? That is to say, when we achieve spiritual attainment, we will be reborn in the Western Paradise, and after becoming a Buddha there, we will return to the world of samsara to transform sentient beings.
Therefore, in our land, it is generally said that everyone should recite the Buddha and be reborn in the Western Paradise, which is called "going."
But if we imagine that there are so many Bodhisattvas in the Pure Sea of Bliss now, what is the main theme that they talk about the most every day? That is, how to return to the world of samsara and transform sentient beings.
So this word is very interesting, and this is also what my master and the Venerable Master wrote at that time. What does it mean? That is, not only do we have to make a wish to go to the world of bliss, but we also have to come back from the world of bliss to the world of samsara to transform sentient beings.
So this one word is a very clever combination of this method and this merit of self-interest and altruism. Therefore, if you make a wish and go, you will come again with your wish, and when you come together, it is called "the Nine Realms Return Together".
It is the final destination of each and every one of our practitioners.
When the Buddha was alive, the disciples asked the Buddha, why can't the poisonous dragon harm the Buddha? The Lord said, "There is no poison in my heart, and the poison of all living beings cannot poison me." The Living Buddha of Jinshan also had two similar incidents, which are now stated one by one:
Once the Jinshan Living Buddha ran from the Jinshan Jiangtian Temple to the outskirts of Zhenjiang to wander, suddenly saw a lot of farmers and policemen, holding wooden sticks and brooms, weapons of different lengths chasing a big centipede about three feet long, noisy, from far and near, Jinshan Living Buddha stopped and did not escape, nor did he move around; Seeing that they were chasing the centipede, they were hurriedly crawling forward, and crawling very fast, and the police officers behind were also in hot pursuit, as if they wanted to kill the poison and eliminate harm for the people, so they did not relax and chased to the death.
The centipede approached the living Buddha's side, the crowd shouted, the monk quickly escaped, so as not to be injured by the centipede, who expected the living Buddha, not only did not escape, but shook his hands and shouted: "Don't chase my senior brother, it will never hurt people and animals, you don't chase, I will stop it, introduce it to you, and mediate this dispute." The crowd has been chasing for a long time, and they are already exhausted, so they stopped chasing and pounced to see what tricks this monk played. What can he do to deal with the centipede? At this time, the Jinshan Living Buddha said to the centipede: "Senior brother come to me." After saying that, he lowered his left hand, and it was strange to say, this vicious centipede, sure enough, stopped advancing, slowly climbed to the hand of the living Buddha, slowly passed the arm to the head, several feet long, lay on the living Buddha's body, the living Buddha stroked with his right hand and said: "I say for my senior brother to take refuge, take refuge in the Buddha, take refuge in the law, take refuge in the Sangha, take refuge in the Buddha and never fall into hell, take refuge in the law and never fall into hungry ghosts, take refuge in the monk and never fall into animals." If it is like this three times, he said: "Senior brother, you go back to the basics!" The big centipede bowed its head and lay down, as if reluctant to go, and slowly went to the ground, so as not to see it. When the masses saw this miracle, they were amazed! They shouted that this monk was a living Buddha, because at that time, the name of the living Buddha of Jinshan had not yet penetrated into the hearts of the people in the towns and villages, and few people knew that the name of the living Buddha was miraculous, and there were even people who did not know where he came from. The living Buddha of Jinshan is also very strange, and does not answer their questions, turns around and runs, as if to escape something, and runs very fast, so everyone will chase the goal of the centipede and change it to chase the monk, until the Jinshan Jiangtian Temple, the living Buddha about into his meditation room to sit in meditation, when everyone chased to the Jinshan guest hall, the monk has lost his place. Everyone is talking about it, the Zhike Master thought that something was wrong, after everyone's statement, it was only then that it became clear, the Zhike Master said to everyone, you don't make a fuss, this is an ordinary thing, everyone go back, don't kill lives in the future, less publicity for this matter, everyone knows that the Living Buddha lives in Jinshan, so they unanimously call it "Jinshan Living Buddha".
The green snake was killed, rescued and resurrected
Beings with heavy hatred and hatred become snakes, scorpions, and centipedes after death, and because of their heavy hatred, they become animal snakes, scorpions, and centipedes, and it has a vicious and strange appearance, so that people can see that they are afraid and hateful, regardless of the big snake, the small snake, the big centipede, or the small centipede, so that people are shocked and jump up when they see it, and the timid ones avoid and flee, and the bold ones take sticks and iron objects and beat them to death. Therefore, snakes and centipedes are found to be killed by many people.
Jinshan Living Buddha once in Nanjing Louxia Temple in front of the cool, and several masters are talking and chatting, suddenly there is a small green snake crawled out, was found by the workers, they took ruthless action to kill, pick up the stone everywhere, you a little, he a little, the green snake killed, and hit into several sections, but the green snake is still beating there, when they hit, Jinshan Living Buddha saw to stop them from fighting, and wait until the living Buddha ran to the front, this green snake has become several sections. Jinshan Living Buddha compassionately loves all sentient beings, and does not want to have a sentient being killed in front of him, today he saw this green snake being killed, he has to take on the obligation to save the dead and help the wounded. Therefore, he took matters into his own hands, picked up the dead green snake that was broken into several sections, and then took a glass of water, chanted words in his mouth, about reciting the Great Compassion Mantra, recited for a while, and sprinkled the water on the dead green snake, read it slowly, sprinkled it slowly, everyone saw it and looked around the side, there was really an incredible effect, this little green snake gradually moved, and stopped for a while; The green snake came back to life and came back to life, and the living Buddha said three refuges for it, and it slowly crawled into the cracks in the stones.
At that time, the people who fought the green snake and the onlookers all had the highest reverence for the Living Buddha of Jinshan from their hearts, and they couldn't bear to hurt the lives of things casually, so they all took refuge in the Three Jewels sincerely. This manifestation of compassion of the Living Buddha not only saved the lives of small animals, but also healed the human cruelty of higher animals.
It is said that the living Buddha of Jinshan often said that he took refuge for snakes, scorpions, centipedes, etc., sometimes in his hands, sometimes hidden in his sleeves, and was very intimate with them, not only did not bite him, but also was very obedient, sometimes he was speaking for centipedes, and when he saw someone rushing to see, he hid the centipede in his sleeve, and when people asked him to see, the living Buddha raised his hand and said to the big sleeve: "Senior brother, someone wants to see you when you come out", and then the centipede slowly crawled out of the sleeve. Stop in the palm of the living Buddha's hand, don't move, wait until everyone has seen it, he said: "Senior brother, go in", it's really strange, the centipede slowly entered the sleeve, but after stopping for a while, the living Buddha put the centipede into the grass, and said a few words to him that people don't understand, the centipede is reluctant to swim into the grass and rocks in the mountains, this is the living Buddha heart is not poisonous, everything can not hurt, we usually people are injured by snakes and scorpions, are the poison in the heart has not gone, or have a grudge with the snake and scorpion in the previous life, So now that the enemy is meeting and being attacked and injured by him, if he is killed, it will increase the resentment of life.
In the future, the karma will be the same, and the retribution will be repaid."
Qian Weicheng, a candidate from Wujin County, asked Li Jianzhong, a fellow villager, to go to Beijing to take the exam together. On this day, they rode horses to Shandong and suddenly encountered a heavy rain. By the time they arrived at the town inn, the two of them had become soup chickens.
Due to the fatigue of the journey, they lay down on their heads after dinner. Not long after Qian Weicheng lay down, his eyes became hazy, and he saw that he had come to the capital, and he walked and walked unconsciously to the Gongyuan. Seeing that many candidates were looking at the list on the wall, who would be the champion this year? How many jinshi would he be among the top students in the club? He hurriedly squeezed forward. saw Li Jianzhong's name clearly written at the top of the list. He hurriedly looked down, and it took a while before he saw his name in the second and thirtieth place. He couldn't help but be surprised, and couldn't help but exclaim: "Hit!" Li Jianzhong, who was still asleep on the side, listened to it, and hurriedly asked, "Brother Qian, what's wrong?" Qian Weicheng rubbed his eyes and said, "I had a dream just now, I dreamed that you won the top prize, and I only won the top two or thirty. Li Jianzhong learned that he had the title of champion, and he was so happy that he couldn't sleep anymore, and waited for dawn with his eyes open.
However, the weather was not beautiful, and the heavy rain still did not stop. Li Jianzhong was so anxious that he couldn't sit still. Seeing this, Qian Weicheng kindly persuaded: "Brother Xian, don't worry. On a rainy day, we took advantage of this time to read a book. But Li Jianzhong is still worried about Zhongzhong. Qian Weicheng had no choice but to take out the book from the bookcase and read it with relish.
