Chapter 4: The Escape
Guo Yang fled along the river for more than 20 days, almost hundreds of miles away from Wujiazhuang. He gradually felt a little at ease, but after all, he did not dare to reveal his deeds.
One day, when Guo Yang sneaked to the river to drink water, he found fish in this small river, which made him overjoyed.
At first, he wanted to catch the fish directly with his hands, but after splashing in the water for a long time, he didn't catch a single fish, but got his clothes wet.
Guo Yang began to think of a way, trying to use sharpened wooden sticks to tie the fish, but it was also unsuccessful.
He was inexperienced and did not know that the actual position of the fish after refraction on the surface of the water was not in its original place.
In addition, after all, he was too young and lacked strength, and the speed at which the sticks could not be pierced could keep up with the speed at which the fish could escape.
Later, he peeled a pile of bark from a grove, twisted it into a net, and tied it to a stick.
This method is good, after continuous testing and improvement, it took two days for Guo Yang to finally catch two fish.
Guo Yang was overjoyed, and quickly peeled and washed the two fish by the river, carefully wrapped them in mud, and ran into the grove in his hand.
As a small shepherd, I still have some experience in surviving in the wild.
He quickly dug a stove with a stick of wood, picked up a large pile of dry wood, crumpled a handful of hay, and lit it with a fire sickle.
After the dry firewood burned the whole pot stove red, Guo Yang picked up some loess and sprinkled it on the fire, and put the two fish wrapped tightly in mud inside.
Then, with his hands and feet, he used the ground to bury the whole pot and stove with loess.
This method of roasting fish was taught to him by the old shepherd, but it was the first time to cook some potatoes and ears of wheat before.
After waiting for an hour, Guo Yang carefully opened the pot stove and took out the two pieces of mud that had been baked and browned.
With a slight tap on the stick, two white fish appeared, scattering a rich fragrance.
After chewing grass seeds for a month, where could Guo Yang stand such a temptation, he had already sucked his saliva, and the two fish were eaten clean.
Guo Yang finished eating the two fish, and he was still unsatisfied, licked a few fingers of his hands clean, and then prepared to continue his escape.
Although he had never seen anyone sent by Steward Wu along the way, Guo Yang was not very at ease.
There are only a few big families in this area, and Wujiazhuang's power is very large, so maybe it has already let other big families intercept it halfway.
After eating his stomach, Guo Yang's spirits were greatly boosted, and he continued to escape into the distance overnight.
For more than a month after that, Guo Yang burned a few fish every two or three days. But he didn't dare to stay in the same place for too long, and often just finished eating the fish and hurried away overnight.
In this way, after more than two months of day and night, Guo Yang finally fled thousands of miles away.
On this day, Guo Yang came to a big river.
Looking at the wide river, Guo Yang was a little worried. This river is hundreds of zhang wide, the river water is turbid, yellow, sparkling, I don't know the depth.
The great river came from the vast west, and flowed mightily to the east.
Standing on a nearby hill, Guo Yang did not dare to approach. Because he found that on this river, from time to time, big boats floated by.
He, a fleeing sheep herder, had never seen such a formation, and for fear of being discovered, he fled to the nearby mountains in a hurry.
He wandered around the mountains for days, and whenever he had time, he lay on his stomach and observed the river and the big boats that looked so imposing.
Later, he decided to continue his escape along the river first, waiting for the opportunity to find a way to get to the other side of the river, so that it would be much safer. Thinking that no matter how powerful Wujiazhuang is, it is estimated that after crossing this big river, he should never find himself again.
Guo Yang walked down the river, but he could no longer net fish to eat. There must be fish in the big river, but Guo Yang has the courage to go to the river, the mighty water, he feels scared when he looks at it.
After walking for a month, Guo Yang found a small village near the river.
He hid in a small forest and peeked for a day, and found that the small village was supposed to be a fishing village.
The village is not big, there are only a dozen families, but each family has a small boat that leaves in the morning and returns in the evening.
In the evening, smoke curls from the village, and the sound of chickens and dogs barking can be faintly heard, mixed with the cheerful laughter of children. The men were barefoot and dressed in short coats, revealing their swarthy arms. The women are busy inside and out, and they must be cooking.
Guo Yang lay on his stomach in a nearby wood, tears slowly welling up.
He didn't enjoy it all since he was a child. For as long as he can remember, he lived in the sheepfold, eating goat's milk, sweeping sheep dung, herding sheep, filling grass for sheep, and sleeping with them at night.
If it weren't for the loss of a sheep, perhaps, Guo Yang would really slowly become a sheep.
Guo Yang was hungry and had some irrepressible impulses to go to this small fishing village.
In the end, though, he finally held back.
It's still not far enough from Wujiazhuang, maybe, Steward Wu will send someone to search for him in this area?
Guo Yang grabbed a handful of grass seeds, put them in his mouth and chewed them slowly, and quietly left.
He went down the river. After three months of trekking, Guo Yang finally reached 2,000 miles away from Wujiazhuang.
As Guo Yang traveled eastward, the trees on the mountain began to thicken and the grass increased. In the same way, there are more and more beasts of all kinds.
Guo Yang soon decided that he wanted to find a small village or dock as soon as possible, either find a way to hide his identity and settle down, or flee to the other side of the river.
He didn't want to escape with great difficulty, only to be eaten by some beast for some reason.
After carefully observing for several days, Guo Yang finally decided that he would try his luck in a small fishing village called Qingbaishi to see if he could find a way to cross the river.
There are more than a dozen families in this small fishing village, all fishermen. Moreover, there is also a wonderful thing about this place, that is, it is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the river on one side. If Guo Yang hadn't deliberately looked for such a small fishing village, I'm afraid it would have been difficult to find.
Guo Yang wandered around the nearby mountains and forests for three or four days, observing the movements in the village every day, and found that the people in this fishing village basically had no contact with the outside world except for fishing in the nearby river every day with small wooden boats.
This reassured Guo Yang.
What he fears most now is being discovered.
Guo Yang walked into the small fishing village in the evening.
His clothes were already torn to the point that they could no longer be torn, and after more than half a year of fleeing, the whole person looked black and thin, and covered with black stains.
He's like a beggar, no, he's a beggar, a beggar on the run.
Guo Yang slowly walked into the village, hanging his head, not daring to look at the strange fishermen.
The men, shirtless and barefoot, sat in front of their homes in the shade. The women, who were cooking, occasionally went out and saw Guo Yang, so they leaned against the door and squinted at the little black and thin beggar.
And the seven or eight children stopped running and laughing, staring at Guo Yang intently.
Guo Yang's body began to stiffen a little, and his two legs involuntarily stumbled.
For the first time in my life, I was watched by someone, and it was such a feeling!
Guo Yang walked silently to the village and stood on a narrow bluestone road, not knowing what to do.
