Volume 2 Who Dominates the Ups and Downs Chapter 125 On Good and Evil Again
There are more and more guests who come to Taoyi, some are friends of Lu Tianquan, some are friends of Lu Zhonglian, some are here to congratulate them, some are here to cheer, and some are uninvited; among the guests, there are businessmen and celebrities, heroes of the rivers and lakes, scholars and inkmen, and even people of the three religions and nine streams. Many days later, Lü Buwei's birthday banquet had long passed, but the guests still lingered for a long time, on the contrary, some people rushed to Taoyi to join in the excitement after hearing the rumors, which had long exceeded Lu Zhonglian and Lü Tiltingquan's original expectations.
The so-called people are mixed, three people become tigers, Taoyi is the commercial capital of the Central Plains, the population flow is huge, with all kinds of people gathered in Taoyi, all kinds of news have also spread all over the Central Plains. Some say that the Lu family has a lot of money, and everyone who goes can get a piece of gold cake; some say that Lu Zhong is heroic and righteous, and his martial arts are strong, and he single-handedly takes on the four beasts of Shandong; some say that Wang Xu also picked up the causes and consequences of him and the Lu family.
The name of Guiguzi gradually appeared in front of people, and many people asked Wang Xu to give a lecture. A person named Hou Huan heard that Su Qin was able to become famous all over the world by learning Guiguzi's "Yin Fu", and asked Wang Xu to tell everyone what "Yin Fu" was.
On this day, Wang Xu was explaining Guiguzi's "Seven Techniques of Yin Fu" in the courtyard of Chuntao Residence, and a man who looked like a son in extraordinary clothes came in and moved a chair in the corner and sat down and listened with relish.
After Wang Xu finished speaking, Hou Huan got up and hugged his fists and said: "Ask sir! Ask everyone! People say that Su Qin was poor when he was young, and he stayed at home for the next three years, and devoted himself to studying the "Yin Fu", so he achieved fame! Today, Mr. explained the "Seven Techniques of the Yin Fu of this Sutra", which is just a way of self-cultivation and life, and does not elaborate on the art of war and so on, why do you need to study it intensively for three years?"
If the cart is turned upside down, even if there are thousands of schemes, they cannot be used properly! Seeking knowledge is divided into five levels, the first is clear meaning, the second is comprehension, the third is application, the fourth is flexible, and the fifth is sublimation. Mr. is intelligent and understands when he hears it, but the meaning and level that he can comprehend are still insufficient, even if he thinks he has comprehended, it is not a real comprehension, and he still needs to be used in practice to achieve the realm of true understanding and comprehension!"
"Listening to your words is better than reading a book for ten years!Mr. Today's teachings, Hou Huan will never forget them!" Hou Huan bowed after hearing this.
"Ask the gentleman!" said one of them, standing up and suddenly exclaiming.
Wang Xu saw that it was Xun Qian, and said with a smile:
"Xun situation, please speak!"
"It turns out that it was Mr. who was in the School Palace that day, and I don't want Mr. to remember me!" Xun said.
"You also have a good memory! You are both a master of the Song Dynasty and a concurrently Confucian scholar, so naturally you have some doubts!" Wang Xu said.
"Mr. talks about self-cultivation and concentrating on energy, ostensibly for cultivation, but in fact for strengthening the will, observing the situation, and defeating the opponent, but for this?" Xun said.
"Exactly!" replied Wang Xu.
Although Legalism does not emphasize self-cultivation and self-cultivation, it also requires people to restrain themselves and not to use trickery to seek benefits and defeat opponents! In this way, isn't the "Seven Techniques of Yin Fu" mentioned by Mr. Xun a way to harm others and benefit oneself?
"The 'self-cultivation and self-cultivation' mentioned in the "Seven Techniques of Yin Fu in this Sutra" is actually the way of 'self-cultivation and self-cultivation'! What Confucianism and Legalism talk about is the law of self-restraint, and the superiority of the Tao and the law is self-evident! All things in the world are in harmony with yin and yang, and they are mutually reinforcing and mutually beneficial! What is the reason why Confucianism does not cultivate oneself for the sake of pleasing oneself, but only for the sake of pleasing others? Legalists pay attention to profit and loss, there is an outline, there is a law, and there is a degree, but the terms of the law are all artificial, and since they are man-made, there are deviations!" Wang Xu said this, and many people in the hall nodded yes, Wang Xu paused and continued:
"Speaking of the way of harming others and benefiting oneself, Xun situation, let me ask you, does King Wu of Zhou raise an army to attack the army, is it considered to harm others and benefit himself?
"This kind of harming others and benefiting oneself is not harming others and benefiting oneself as I said! What I mean by harming others and benefiting oneself is harming others and seeking benefits for oneself!" Xun said.
"Then how do you know that I am concentrating and strengthening my will, just to harm others?" Wang Xu said.
"Sir naturally won't hurt others, but after some people learn Mr.'s "Seven Techniques of Yin Fu", they may not be able to harm others!" Xun said.
"That is also the fault of that person, not the fault of the Yin Fu! You must think in your heart that if you teach a person to use stratagem, he will inevitably use stratagem to harm others and benefit himself, and he will only restrain himself and will not hinder others!
"Exactly, please advise me!" Xun said.
"From the moment a man is born, he has to draw the milk of his mother to feed his body, which can be said to be harmful to others and self-interest, and when a person is old, he must support his children without compensation, and he must harm others and benefit himself in order to survive in the world for a few years. If we restrain ourselves according to Confucianism, then the old man cannot drag down his children, the sick wife cannot drag down her husband, and the businessman cannot make a profit.
Everyone in the hall naturally denied it, and Wang Xu continued:
"You may think that I am deliberately attacking Confucianism, so I will tell you about it! A person must absorb his mother's milk from birth, but he will also give milk to the next generation; a person wants his children to provide for him in old age, because he once gave his parents a pension; if a businessman wants to make a profit, he will also use his profits to support his family, this is the way of profit and loss, there are in and out, there are losses and gains, it is in line with the rules of heaven! On the surface, benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom' seem to be self-cultivation and self-restraint, but a person who really achieves such a goal will often release more powerful power to the outside world, because only in this way can he obtain balance, and only in this way can he conform to the rules of heaven! A saint like Confucius, we cannot attack him, but the strength he obtains comes from his self-cultivation and restraint! Whether it is Taoism or Confucianism, their self-cultivation will gain strength, some will gain inner strength, and this power will be transformed into the extension of life, and some will gain strength outward, and this power will become wealth and fame, all in the same way!"
"Mr. explained this, Xun Guo somewhat understood! Mr. believes that 'harming others and benefiting oneself' is inevitable, and the key lies in how to harm others and benefit oneself, but this is the truth?" Xun said.
"Killing people and stealing goods, stealing and committing adultery, is what everyone thinks is harming others and benefiting themselves, making profits in business, attacking cities and plundering pools, and also harming others and benefiting themselves, among which there is naturally a difference, but what is the difference, it depends on how you know!" Wang Xu said.
"Speaking of this, I think of a past! In the past, I was arguing with the princes about what is good and evil in the Jixia School Palace, but after listening to Tian Dan, I realized that Mr. was also present at that time!" Lu Zhong said.
"What Mr. said that day, can there be any changes today?" Wang Xu asked.
"The change has not changed, but today I would like to discuss with Mr. and the great sages what is good and evil in this world?
"Since Lu Lianzi is interested, why don't I discuss it?" said a young Confucian disciple named Le Zhengke.
"I was also there that day, and today I will talk about good and evil, I can't ask for it!" Xun said.
"My teacher was there that day!" said one of the people who seemed to have a very loud voice, causing everyone to look at him. This person's name is Kuang Tan, and he is a disciple of Gongsun Long.
"There are Mr. Gongsun's disciples here, and I have to talk about it even more today! I remember that day I first asked Mr. Gongsun, 'Which is good and which is evil?' and then Mr. Gongsun asked me again, but neither of us could answer! To this day, I can't find the answer to this question. Lu Zhonglian and Gongsun Long, who were young that day, raised the bar, and he naturally remembered it clearly.
As soon as Lu Zhonglian said this, he whispered to the bottom, and some people thought: How can these stones and wood be said to be good and evil? The boy sitting on the chair in the corner also seemed to think that this question was not a problem, and cheered up to listen to Wang Xu's answer.
"I have an answer to this question, but I may not answer it well! Since you are interested in discussing good and evil, and discussing it, I will answer it after you have discussed it!" Wang Xu said.
"If you don't dislike being young and ignorant, how about I start up?" Xun seemed to be full of interest.
"You are both a law and a Confucian, and the original focus of the debate was on the two Confucianism and law, so it is most appropriate for you to start!" Lu Zhong said.
"The topic that Mencius presided over that day was 'human nature is inherently good' or 'human nature is inherently evil'? What did Lu Lianzi ask just now about what is good and evil? If we want to know whether human nature is inherently good or inherently evil, we must first find out what is good and evil, and if it is difficult to distinguish between good and evil, it will be even more difficult to distinguish between human nature and inherently evil. There is no dispute between the former harming others and benefiting oneself and the latter subservient to others. But if the merchant makes a profit, and the two armies fight against each other, it will be difficult to distinguish between good and evil, and it will be difficult to distinguish between good and evil.
"Merchants make profits, and the two armies fight each other, although there are losses and gains, whether they are good or evil, on the basis of facts, how can there be no distinction between good and evil?"
"If you want to talk about things, things in the world, often say that the public is reasonable, mother-in-law says that mother-in-law is reasonable, everyone says their own reason, and always says that they are reasonable, where can they be clear!" Xun said.
"Exactly!" Kuang Tan opened his mouth, his voice was very loud, and everyone frowned and listened to him say:
"So Mr. Gongsun is right, justice is in the hearts of the people! Right and wrong have their own justice, and justice is in the hearts of the people!"
"Justice is in people's hearts, but people's hearts grow in people's stomachs, how can you see it?" Xun said.
Kuang Tan was stunned for a moment, didn't know how to answer, and said loudly in a hurry:
"People's hearts are separated from their belly, don't you see it when you open your belly?"
This shout caused everyone to laugh. Lu Zhong connected and said:
"Right and wrong have their own public opinion, and the question lies in where is this 'public opinion'? What is public opinion? Is there a universal public opinion? In the past, I once said that 'good and evil exist between heaven and earth,' and the standard of good and evil is justice.
"Why should Lu Lianzi be modest? Lu Lianzi's words are public opinion!"
"How dare you!" Lu Zhong hugged his fists and said.
"The winner is king, the loser is the villain, how can there be justice in this world?" one shook his head and sighed.
"What Your Excellency said is exactly what the world is saying!" Lu Zhonglian said to the king after he finished speaking to the man:
"My husband just asked me, 'What I said then, can I change today?' If justice really exists, who can show it in front of everyone and make it public to the world? What does Mr. think of right and wrong, good and evil?
"I share your view that good and evil exist between heaven and earth. As Mr. Gongsun said, good and evil are in people's hearts, and people's hearts are not between heaven and earth? Therefore, whether good and evil lie in people's hearts or exist in some corner of the world, they all exist between heaven and earth!" Wang Xu said.
"In this way, the teacher and Lu Lianzi don't disagree? This is very good! I respect the teacher and admire Lu Lianzi very much!" Kuang Tan lowered his voice. The reason why Kuang Tan lowered his voice was because he was born with a loud voice and was afraid of arguing with others.
Mr. Gongsun and Lu Lianzi naturally have different opinions! Mr. Gongsun believes that good and evil lie in people's hearts and mouths; Lu Lianzi believes that good and evil cannot be measured by people's hearts, still less can they listen to the good and evil that people say, and that there should be a universal standard for good and evil, and that they cannot be judged by their hearts, and that everyone is the same, and this is the difference between them. What I am talking about is the nature of good and evil, and in essence, good and evil exist between heaven and earth!"
"The essence of good and evil that Mr. is talking about refers to good and evil itself, but what does this mean?" Xun said.
"Exactly, it answers the essence of good and evil, which is good and which is evil in stone and wood, and there is an answer!" Wang Xu said.
"The 'essence' that Mr. said is like this cup, is it ceramic or copper, but what does that mean?" Xun Kuang picked up the porcelain cup on the table and asked further.
"Exactly!" said the king.
"I see, sir, that good and evil are a tangible existence, and no matter what you think, it doesn't affect its essence, but what does that mean?"
"Exactly!" said the king.
"This is difficult to understand, can you elaborate on it, sir?" Lu Zhong said.
"Justice is the criterion for judging good and evil, and if good and evil are as clearly visible as this cup, then justice is naturally easy to formulate! Just like this cup, what color is it? What shape is it? Naturally, it is easy to define, and there will be no controversy! If this cup cannot be seen or touched, then it is a matter of opinion, and everyone will be in the same cloud! Tell me, but this is the truth?" Wang Xu said.
Everyone in the hall said yes, and Xun Jing continued:
"The analogy that Mr. made just now is easy to understand, but good and evil cannot be seen or touched, can Mr. see 'good and evil'?"
"Smell cannot be seen or touched, but the nose can smell its existence; sound cannot be seen or touched, but the ear can hear the sound; in the same way, good and evil cannot be seen or touched, but the mind can feel its existence! In order to obtain this kind of tangible feeling, and even to see the face of good and evil, it is natural to have a certain way. Through the exertion of their minds, the enlightened masters can see the images of good and evil, as real as seeing a teacup, so that good and evil are black and white, round and square, long and short, and can be clearly seen! The path is shallow, and although we can see the images of good and evil, we can only see its outline, but we cannot see its true face!" Wang Xu said.
"What the gentleman said is unfathomable!" Xun sighed.
"Lu can understand one or two today! Lu can understand one or two, all because he has had a period of experience with Mr., and Mr. has such remarks, which are ancient and modern, and Lu is impressed!" Lu Zhonglian has had an extraordinary experience with Wang Xu, Tian Dan and others, and knows that things in the world are beyond imagination, so he can understand some.
"As Mr. said, only those who have attained the Tao can see good and evil clearly, but what does that mean?" asked Xun Jing.
"Exactly!" said the king.
"Can the master show good and evil in its original form and make it public?" Xun asked again.
"Of course you can!" said Wang Xu.
"In other words, a master can make ordinary people see the appearance of good and evil, just like seeing a person's appearance?" Xun Jing was surprised.
"Exactly!" said the king.
"Mr.'s words are ancient and unprecedented, and there is still a puzzle about Xun's situation, so I also consult Mr.! People will have good and evil when they have thoughts, and stones and wood have no thoughts, can it be said that there is no distinction between good and evil? Water has no thoughts, why does Lao Tzu say that 'good is like water'?" Xun said.
"The trail can't see the good and evil of stones and wood, but that doesn't mean that they don't have good and evil, why do you say that, it's also based on the inference that 'good is like water'! Lao Tzu Shengjun is a master of the Tao, and the good and evil in the world that the immortal saint can see far exceeds ordinary people, and it is incomparable to the Tao! People often say that 'poor mountains and bad water', so it can be seen that water also has good and evil! Since the immortal saints can see the images of good and evil, then good and evil naturally have shapes and sizes, so the world has great good and big evil, small good and small evil! The reason why the trail can't see the good and evil such as stone and wood, the trail guesses probably because the good and evil of wood and stone are relatively small, and the trail is not deep, and the more subtle good and evil can't be seen!" Wang Xu said.
"Mr. is clear and quiet, this high argument is unheard of, but it is easy to understand, and I am convinced!" Xun Guo said deeply to Wang Xu after listening to it.
"Xun is ridiculously praised! The path is shallow, not only can you not see the good and evil of stone and wood, but even the good and evil of people are very vague!" Wang Xu said.
"Excuse me, sir, according to what Mr. said, does this good and evil have their inherent characteristics like the 'yin and yang' of things?" asked Huang Xie from the Chu State.
"So to speak!" said Wang.
"If this is the case, there must be an answer to the good and evil of human nature, right?" Huang Xie asked.
"The answer is naturally yes, but the trail is not good!" Wang Xu shook his head.
The so-called inherent goodness or evil of human nature refers to the commonality of human nature, not individuality. What Mr. said just now that a superior person can see the image of good and evil, which refers to the personality of good and evil, and Mr. thinks it is not good, is it possible that there is no commonality between good and evil in human nature?"
"The characteristics of good and evil in individuals are not immutable, so Mencius proposed that the characteristics of good and evil at the beginning of human nature are the pursuit of their common characteristics, and you are very right in this point!
"If the teacher doesn't have an accurate answer, the good and evil of human nature are indeed a bit confusing, right?" Huang Xie frowned.
"Sir is a master of the world, how can there be no answer?" Xun said.
"The small way is that human nature should have its commonalities, but whether it is good or evil, there must be people who have attained the Tao to know the answer, and you don't have to be in a hurry, one day everyone in the world will know!" Wang Xu said.
"Under ┄┄ Under the gentleman ┄┄" A man in the corner got up and asked:
"Is there such a great person in the world, and where can I find such a master?"
The person who questioned him was the same son, because he was sitting in the corner and his voice was not loud enough. Wang Xu was about to answer, but he didn't want to talk about Kuang and suddenly shouted loudly:
"Wei Wuji, he is Wei Wuji, the son of Wei!"
As soon as Kuang Tan shouted this, everyone cast surprised glances at Wei Wuji. At this time, Wei Wuji was the son of Wei Wei, the king of Wei, and he came for the name of the king of Yunmeng Mountain. Wei Wuji is not the eldest son of King Wei, and he has no title to inherit the throne, but he is benevolent and generous, a corporal with good manners, and has many diners under his door. Wei Wuji had already heard of the name of Wang Xu, a master of the Ghost Valley, and made a special trip to ask for advice after learning that Wang Xu had come to Taoyi. There is another person who came to Taoyi, that is, Qu Yuan's disciple Huang Xie, many years later, he was as famous as Wei Wuji, and he was also one of the "Four Sons of the Warring States".
Wei Wuji seemed embarrassed when he saw that someone recognized him, and said to Wang Xu deeply:
"In Xia Wei Wuji, Mr. Jiuyang's name, I came to see you!"
Some people say that ordinary hermits are hidden in the mountains, medium hermits are hidden in the market, and great hermits are officials and politicians in the court, but these are not real hermits and masters, and those who have attained the Tao will not exist in the world! Whether it is the mountains, the market, or the court, it can only be the place where the hermit has attained the Tao, not the final dwelling!
"The mountains look up, the scenery stops! I occasionally heard that there are spiritual saints in Kunlun Qionglou, and there are immortals in overseas Yuyu, and when I heard Mr. say this today, I am afraid that this is true!" Wei Wuji said.
If you can meet the gods in this life, you will seek true insight and tell the world!"
"When I see Mr. today, I don't want to meet the gods, I just want to be taught by Mr. for one day, this life is enough!" Wei Wuji said with the intention of apprenticeship.
"Xiaodao lives in Yunmeng Mountain, if the son doesn't dislike the grass and hemp room, he can come often!" Wang Xu said, and the implication was that he had already accepted this disciple.
"Sir is very loving, you can get a one-day teaching, and Wuji is grateful for life!" Wei Wuji said deeply.
"Xun Jing also wants to listen to Mr. Yunmengshan's lectures!" Xun Jing heard it and immediately said.
"I'm going too!" "I'm going too!" shouted someone in the hall.
"Sir!" a man with a long sword suddenly walked up to Wang Xu from the side and bowed:
"Sir, in the next martial arts, I wonder if Mr. can be accepted as an apprentice?"
Although Wei Wuji, Xun Kuang and others had the intention of apprenticeship, they only said that they were listening to Mr. 's teachings or preaching, and they did not directly say that they were apprentices.
"Chivalrous people are righteous, but the world doesn't think so, you may tell a thing or two about it?" asked Wang Xu.
"I can't say it clearly, so I want to worship Mr. as a teacher, please give me advice!"
"A chivalrous man does his own thing, has no discipline and no program, although he has morality, he is still not enough to be called a gentleman!" Before Wang Xu could reply, one of them shouted loudly.
"Chivalrous people are accustomed to violating the prohibition with martial arts, and Confucians often use literature to disrupt the law, neither of which can be called a gentleman!" said another man who stood beside the man just now.
"I know you, you are Shen Buxian's grandson!" The speaker had a mallet stuck in his back, and he looked like a samurai, not a scholar.
"I'm Shen Zhongyang, this is Han Dang's son of South Korea! If we are wrong, please advise you!" Shen Zhongyang's words were later quoted by Han Feigongzi of South Korea in the book "Five Worms".
"It's not a gentleman in Xia, it's also a martial artist in Xia!" the man looked indifferent, as if he didn't want to argue with Shen Zhongyang.
"Sir ┄┄" The man with the long sword hesitated a little:
"Sir, although I don't understand why the world looks at chivalry like this, I have a lifelong wish, that is, to correct the name of martial arts and set an example for a gentleman!"
"Hahahaha┄┄ Justify the name of martial arts? Establish an example for a gentleman, you have such a big breath!" Shen Zhongyang laughed. Han Dang and the others also laughed when they heard it.
"If this comes out of the mouth of Gongzi Wei, it would be a little credible, who are you to be so ashamed?" Shen Zhongyang said.
"In Xia Chu Jingchen, I am not afraid of your shame today!" Chu Jingchen did muster up the courage to say the previous words.
"The hero's words are shocking, I Hou Huan admires!" Hou Huan stood up and said loudly.
"I'm done with this friend!" said the mallet.
"What the hero said is 'making a name for himself' is excellent, if you don't dislike me as a scholar, you can be regarded as a friend of mine!" Xun said.
"If you can come to Yunmeng Mountain, I will be your senior brother, and my senior brother will sweep the dust for you!" Lin Xiangru, who had not spoken all this time, suddenly expressed his opinion.
"Hahaha┄┄" Wang Xu said with a smile after hearing this:
"I'm optimistic about my junior brother, what else can I say, I hope you can live up to today's words!"
After Wang Xu finished speaking, he got up and clasped his fists to everyone in the hall and said:
"Everyone, let's say goodbye today, Wang Xu will retire first!"
Someone in the hall said goodbye, Wang Xu waved his hand and retreated, and followed Lu Tianquan out of the courtyard.
In the early morning of this day, Wang Xu and Lin Xiangru returned to Yunmeng Mountain. Shortly thereafter, Wei Wuji and Chu Jingchen went to Yunmeng Mountain to learn art, and eventually became a generation of influential figures. Many years later, Lu Zhonglian learned that Chu Jingchen was originally a disciple of Ying Tianya, the head of Jimo Tianya Sword, and the man with the mallet was called Zhu Dabang.
