There are five emperors in the heavens: the eastern wood, the color of the cang, seventy-two days, the southern fire, the color of the red, seventy-two days, the central earth, the color of the yellow, the seventy-two days, the west gold, the color of the white, seventy-two days, and the northern water, the color of the black, seventy-two days. From this, we know that the five emperors correspond to the five elements, and each emperor governs seventy-two days, a total of three hundred and sixty days.
The number 'thirty-six' is related to the calendar of the October solar calendar.
The October solar calendar divides the year into ten months, each with 36 days, and uses male and female (yin and yang) to distinguish the five elements, dividing the year into five seasons, one season is divided into two months of male and female, and each quarter has a total of 72 days. It can be seen from this that the two basic numbers in the ancient calendar, 'thirty-six' and 'seventy-two'. Just as people today are familiar with the fact that the year has twelve months, fifty-two weeks, and seven days each, the numbers 'thirty-six' and 'seventy-two' were the most commonly used and necessary in ancient times.
In ancient times, when science was not yet developed and calendar knowledge occupied an important place in people's social life, their memory and use were even more important. It was only later that the calendar changed, science developed, and the practicality of 'thirty-six' and 'seventy-two' slowly disappeared.
The reason why Tiangang and Earth Evil appear again in real society is because of the thirty-six Heavenly Gang Stars and seventy-two Earth Evil Stars written in "Water Margin". In fact, Tiangang and Disha are the sayings in Chinese Taoism, and they are all ancient star names.
Tiangang refers to: the handle of the Big Dipper, and the earth shatter refers to: the Big Dipper from the star. Taoism believes that there are 36 Tiangang stars in the Big Dipper Cluster, and each Tiangang Star has a god, collectively called: 36 Tiangang, and there are 72 Earth Evil Stars in the Big Dipper, and there is also a god on each Earth Evil Star, collectively called: 72 Earth Evil.
Tiangang and Earth Evil are the names of Taoist gods, and the gods are divided into: there are '36 Heavenly Soldiers and Fierce Gods of Tiangang' in the sky, and there are 'Seventy-two Earth Soldiers and Evil Demons' on the ground, both of which are called: 'Divine General'.
In the Taoist Dharma, there are also spells that combine the thirty-six heavenly gangs and the seventy-two earthly demons. Thirty-six changes in Tiangang, namely: mediation and creation: it is the first of the thirty-six laws of Tiangang, the highest mana of Taoism, because it is the magic power of creation, mediating heaven and earth, Xuankan creation, with nothing and death, the sage Nuwa Niangniang relied on this creation of the entire human race.
The second law, reversing yin and yang: Taoism's profound mana can make heaven and earth out of order, the sun and the moon out of order, yang but not out, yin forced but not steaming, and all things travel against each other. It is said that the gods are in prison, and it is also the reversal of the world.
Three methods, moving stars and changing buckets: all things in the universe can be transferred to the palace, and gods, people, ghosts, demons, and beasts can be rotated in their positions, and those who choose to rebel can kill their bodies and destroy their yuan. You can also live.

According to legend, Taiyi True Immortal's 'Six Valleys' is a very powerful spell. Liuyu is the art of the Earth Yuan Kun Dao, and the Qi of the Big Dipper changes from the four stars to the sixth. Because the earth is changing all the time, and the change of the heavenly way is based on the six subordinate stars orbiting around the main star, and the four times change. In this way, it evolved into 6636 Tiangang changes. It is the principle of 'Hengshun geography, inheriting the heavens and preaching', which is to say: 'Tiangang'. All things in the heavens can change at will, which is the 'Tao' change of heaven and earth.
And the seventy-two earth changes are the 'magic' changes of the five elements and nine palaces of yin and yang. Therefore, the Dao change of the thirty-six heavenly gang changes and the change of the seventy-two earth demons are the relationship between body and use.
In other words, the thirty-six Heavenly Gang changes are primordial changes, while the seventy-two Earth Demons are only external changes. Therefore, if Zhu Bajie, who has changed in the 36 days of Journey to the West, becomes a stone, it will be a stone from the inside out, and the Monkey King's 72 earth changes are just an outer skin statue, and the inner flesh is still the flesh.
In "Journey to the West", the ninety-nine chapters of the Five Sages come true, it is said: "Today, I will become a Buddha in all directions, and wash away the six or six dusts of the year." What does this "six six dusts" mean? Is it the six dusts that the Buddhists say: color, sound, fragrance, and touch? Then just say six dusts, why is there an extra 'six'? Is it to make up the number of words or rhyme? Of course not.
The 'six six dusts' is a Taoist term, which in Taoist culture refers to the physical body. The first 'six' character represents Kundi in Zhou Yili, which is immovable and yin, and the other 'six' is that Tiangang six congxing (Beidou spoon handle) should change at four times, which is moving and yang.
The thirty-six heavenly gangs and the seventy-two earthly evils are born of the righteous and evil qi of heaven and earth.
