Chapter 29: The Elixir of Life (Ask for Recommendation)

Professor Bathilda Bassat had just finished a passage.

But just as she paused to drink her salivaโ€”

Someone raised their hands.

Professor Bassat rubbed his eyes, as if surprised.

"You are?"

"I'm Granger, Professor!" Hermione Granger said generously, "I'm so presumptuous to interrupt you, but I'm curious, so I'd like to ask you: What is the elixir?"

Professor Bathilda Basshat, referring to Merlin's life experience, mentioned that he had been using elixirs to keep himself alive.

Clearly, Hermione was not alone in wanting to know the answer to that question. As she spoke, a low whisper rang out throughout the huge classroom.

Professor Bassat was a very kind witch, and she was not offended by a student interrupting her lecture.

Instead, he continued to say in a gentle tone: "My course is the history of magic, and what I study is historical events. Of course, if you're interested in the elixirโ€”"

"Yes, Professor. โ€

"We're interested!"

"Let's talk about the elixir......!"

As soon as Professor Basshat's words fell, a burst of impatient, immature voices suddenly sounded from all around.

Wizards from pure-blood families, such as Pansy Parkinson and Daphne Greengrass, were all in high spirits and straightened up.

Agnes Lestrange was probably alone, lying on the table with some interest.

"Okay, okay. Professor Bassat raised his hands and motioned for everyone to be quiet: "Then I will meet everyone's request!"

The whole classroom was quiet again, and everyone was staring intently at the old lady on the podium.

"Regarding the elixir of life, we have to start with the 'Philosopher's Stone'. Professor Bassat said slowly, "There are also wizards who call it the 'Philosopher's Stone'โ€”"

"It is the purest, the most precious, and the most miraculous substance. It is the highest masterpiece of ancient alchemy to date, and on the outside, of course, it is just a man-made, magical, blood-colored stone. โ€

"It can fulfill the most primitive wishes of wizards, including endless wealth (turning any kind of metal into pure gold), eternal youth, and infinite life...... Among them, the infinite life is the elixir that can prolong the life of the drinker by relying on the 'Philosopher's Stone'!"

"Of course, the power of the elixir is not unlimited, and for ordinary wizards, even if they continue to use the elixir, they can only extend their lives to between seven hundred and eight hundred years old at most. โ€

"And Merlin not only has the Philosopher's Stone, but also has half of the 'Dream Demon' bloodline in his body, which made his final lifespan as high as 1,200 years old, and finally died unexpectedly because of the goblin rebellion. โ€

Professor Bassat lowered his head again and took a sip of water.

When she looked up, she noticed a hand waving in mid-air.

"This gentleman?"

"I'm Longbottom, Professor Basshat!" the tall boy quickly stood up and said excitedly, "In other words, after Mr. Merlin's death, his philosopher's stone has also been handed down?"

"No, Mr. Longbottom. Professor Bassat shook his head: "Merlin donated his entire estate to the Merlin Order before he died, but this does not include the Philosopher's Stone. So some people suspect that during his lifetime, he had used up all the philosopher's stones. โ€

"And how do you get a Philosopher's Stone?" another Gryffindor boy snorted, standing up.

It immediately caused a burst of laughter from the whole class.

"You are?"

"I'm Weasley!" the red-haired boy said quickly.

"Okay Mr. Weasley, but I suggest you raise your hand the next time you ask a question. Professor Bassat said, but there was not much reproach in his voice:

"The craft of making the Philosopher's Stone was lost six hundred years ago. Although there have been many reports of the Philosopher's Stone over the centuries, the only remaining Philosopher's Stone isโ€”"

Professor Bassat's voice became mysterious, and she deliberately bought a pass:

"It's at Hogwarts!"

This sentence instantly made the whole classroom boil.

"What?"

"Really?"

"Are you kidding, Professor......?"

"That's true!" Professor Bassart raised his voice a little, "the only remaining Philosopher's Stone, made by the famous 14th-century alchemist Nick Lemay, and after several changes of hands, it now belongs to Gellert Grindelwald, Headmaster of Hogwarts!"

"Isn't that ......," Ronald Weasley said without thinking.

But he quickly realized something and hurriedly raised his hand.

"Good, Mr. Weasley. Professor Bassat gave him an encouraging look.

"Isn't that ...... Headmaster Grindelwald, can you live at least seven to eight hundred years old?" Ronald Weasley quickly stood up again and asked loudly.

"Life is not as simple as you think, young man. Professor Bashat's expression gradually became serious:

"A long life is a lot of the time, and it's torture because it comes at a heavy cost. And in the limited life, do not regret for wasting your time, nor be ashamed of doing nothing, and realize the true value in your heart. That's what a great wizard should do. โ€

"From what I know of Gellert, there's no way he's going to do such a boring thing as using an elixir to prolong his life. โ€

......

About the elixir and the Philosopher's Stone, it's just a small episode in this Potions lesson.

Soon Professor Butterat began to recount the historic duel between Merlin and Morgana on the island of Avalon, which quickly attracted everyone's attention.

However, even after the end of class, there are still people who miss the Philosopher's Stone.

For example, when Matthew passed by Ronald Weasley, he was heard muttering, "If I get the Philosopher's Stone, I'll make a lot of gold out of it, and then buy a house in Diagon Alley......"

Matthew fears that the kind of "tragedy" that happened at breakfast and dinner would happen again.

He didn't stay long, and hurriedly left the history of magic classroom.
