Chapter 197: A New Teacher
After the previous "false alarm", Matthew Wakefield no longer dared to act rashly.
He obediently stayed at Duke Honey's confectionery store as an ordinary temporary clerk......
Every day is extremely regular, and I don't do anything "illegal", just like usual!
He didn't dare to go any closer to the pig's head bar...... There, the "fishing" behavior carried out by those "saints" in order to earn some "extra money" may still continue.
Matthew never told anyone what happened to him at the Hog's Head Bar.
It's even more impossible to try to contact the people of the Order of the Phoenix!
Of course, no one from the Order of the Phoenix took the initiative to contact him...... It's as if this organization has disappeared from the wizarding world.
......
And just like that, before I knew it, a month had passed.
Throughout July, business at Duke Honey's Confectionery has been booming.
It's hard to imagine that so many wizards, young and old, in England, love such sweets...... Not to mention, there are many foreign wizards who come here.
From morning to night, the candy store welcomes countless customers, especially at dusk, when business is at its best.
The owners of the candy shop, Mr. and Mrs. Froome, are tired every day, and so is Matthew, who is their helper.
The business was so hot that it was very difficult for him to take a day off......
Matthew Wakefield does need a day off now, and there's a normal reason for thatβ
July is coming to an end, and it's time for a trip to Diagon Alley to pick up some essentials for the new school year at Hogwarts!
In Year 3, Hogwarts students will have several additional electives, including Ancient Runes Studies, Muggle Studies, Protecting Magical Creatures, Divination, and Arithmetic Divination, from which they will be required to take three electives.
From there, Matthew took the study of ancient runes, the conservation of magical beasts, and divination.
In addition, the new textbooks required for other courses (some because the textbooks have been updated, and some because of the new course teachers)......
So in order to complete the third grade course, he needs to buy the following books:
"The Intermediate Morphing Guide, by Emeric Swich
Standard Spells, Level Three, by Miranda Goshawk
The Book of Potions, by Zygmunt Budge
"Piercing the Fog and Looking to the Future" by Cassandra Vablaski
A Guide to the Protection of Magical Creatures from Many Hazards in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, by Edward Lima
Dictionary of the Devil's Language, by Arafat Horst"
All students who take "Divination" will need to bring their own crystal ball, and all students who take "Protecting Magical Beasts" will need to bring their own dragon skin suit.
Also, with the passage of two years, the black Hogwarts robes (uniform) and pointed hat from before were significantly smaller, and Matthew needed to go to Diagon Alley to buy a new one.
All in all, Matthew is in desperate need of a day off right now.
It took him almost a great deal of effort to convince Mr. Froome (the business was so good that Mr. and Mrs. Froome were obviously too busy to do so), and Mr. Froome reluctantly agreed to take a day off on the last day of July.
......
The last day of July β
Early in the morning, Matthew came to Duke Honey's fireplace.
Lit the fireplace, then grabbed a small handful of Floo powder from a nearby flower pot and threw it in.
As the emerald green flames erupted, Matthew shouted, "Diagon Alley!"
Then he disappeared into the emerald green flames.
It's really not a good feeling to travel with Floo powder, and it's like riding a roller coaster, which makes it even more uncomfortable...... After a whirlwind, Matthew managed to appear in front of another fireplace.
Again, this is a fairly familiar place...... Diagon Alley's "Leaky Cauldron Bar".
Old Tom, who had lost all his teeth, passed by slowly, and was obviously not surprised that a wizard had suddenly appeared in the bar's fireplace.
"Good morning, Mr. Abbott!"
Matthew greeted him, and then went into the patio in the backyard and into Diagon Alley.
......
Diagon Alley, the largest wizarding street in the UK, looks much more deserted than ever.
Many of the shops in the surrounding area are closed, and there are not many pedestrians on the streets.
But it's also possible that it's because it's still early.
Fortunately, several important stores are still open.
Matthew went to the bookstore first to buy the books he needed, not the Blott Bookstore, which had closed a year earlier, and he went to Foyle's Bookstore, just north of Diagon Alley.
He then went to a nearby leather shop and bought a dragon skin suit, and then a magic goods shop and a crystal ball.
Finally, he stopped outside Madame Morkin's robes store.
Lady Morkin was a stocky witch with a smile and a purple dress.
"You're here to buy a new robe, my dear?" she stood at the door of the store, and before Matthew could speak, she took the initiative to introduce, "Can you ask which house you belong to?"
"Slytherin!" replied Matthew honestly.
"Then you can try this!" Lady Morkin took out a silver-green robe from the hanger, "We have a lot of them here, and to be honest, there are a few young men in there to try clothes." β
"Okay, thanks. Matthew nodded.
At the back of the shop, tall boys stood on footstools, and witches pinned their robes with pins...... They were clearly a few years older than Matthew, and the robes in their hands were yellow-black, and they were Hufflepuff House students.
Madame Morkin made Matthew stand on another footstool beside them, put a robe on him, and used a pin to fit his length elsewhere.
At the same time, Matthew also heard the Hufflepuff seniors chattering there:
"Have you heard of Professor Snape?" said a freckled student, somewhat mysteriously, "He is said to have left Hogwarts!"
"What's the matter, I like him a lot!" asked a shorter student on the other side, very surprised.
"His true identity has been revealed...... 'Severus Snape' is nothing more than a pseudonym, his real name is Remus Lupin, a werewolf registered by the Ministry of Magic......" The freckled student continued, "It's gossip, but many people already know it!"
"Werewolf...... We've been living with a werewolf for a year...... It's terrible, isn't it!" A pale, emaciated young man looked a little frightened.
"My dad said that Professor Grindelwald has always been a little irresponsible in choosing teachers......
"And with the dead Professor Slughorn, aren't we going to have two new teachers next year?"
When he heard Horace Slughorn's name, Matthew's eyes suddenly became a little sour.
"Don't be so stiff, child, take it easy!" reminded Lady Morkin.
Matthew nodded hurriedly.
"No, it's three ......," the freckled Hufflepuff student continued, "and we seem to have a new Divination professor!"
