About the setting of the character's personality

The word "chivalrous" comes from "The Biography of Children's Heroes", which refers to having a strong sense of social responsibility, loving the country and the people, and being witty and brave; Helping the poor, punishing evil and promoting good; Be righteous and willing to help others; When the road is uneven, walk for the sky. Everyone's definition of chivalry is different, and we can roughly do the above description, we can call it chivalry.

But it seems to me that there are very few such people, and many people may say that this description of "chivalry" is too general, and that it is even more difficult to do one of them.

Indeed, I believe that in the eyes of most people, this kind of person almost does not exist, at least among the people around me, there is no such person who is dedicated to others.

Yes, this makes "chivalry" seem to be detached from the social crowd, or it may not exist at all, so the "chivalrous" feelings that exist in most martial arts novels can only be seen in the book, and when the book is closed, it is a different scene.

Indeed, chivalry is different from "righteousness", so it seems to be far away from us.

Another point is because of the character setting in martial arts novels - more than one person told me that almost all textbooks will say a sentence: to write a novel character, the character must be distinct and prominent. This is a very real sentence, if the character is not outstanding, the audience can't remember, "Water Margin" writes one hundred and eight heroes, close the book, after a period of time, I can probably say the nicknames and names of more than 30 heroes, and the rest I can't remember clearly, what's more, if I look at his name again, I don't know who this person is and what he did.

However, the characters in the book who are familiar to the public are often remembered deeply and cannot be forgotten for a lifetime, which is the advantage of the characters' distinct personalities. When I was a child, I only distinguished characters by "good guys" or "bad guys", which was, of course, narrow and biased. As they mature and realize that there is no such thing as a perfect good or bad person in the world, people distinguish between good and bad people by what others do or say, for example, a murderer, he must have done a good deed, because the sin of killing is far greater than the good he has done, so he is defined as a bad person, and vice versa.

This confuses me.

Because the definition of the characters in the novel should be prominent, if the protagonist is upright, extremely intelligent, martial arts, punishing good and eliminating evil, often the audience can't tolerate him flawed. is like the familiar Guo Jing, Yang Guo, Ling Hu Chong and other characters. If Guo Jing's personality remains the same, but he is greedy for money and things and has accumulated countless wealth all his life, the audience must not want to watch it, this is a flaw, and it is a fly on the pure screen.

But the human heart is too complicated.

Mr. Jin Yong in the later times, for example, portrayed Zhang Wuji, the character is kind, filial, and extremely high martial arts (when Jin Lao was interviewed, he said that Zhang Wuji is the person with the highest martial arts in all the novels he set), but he is indecisive, everything goes with the flow, and does not fight with the sky, his mother said two sentences before he died, the first sentence made him remember the appearance of these people in front of him, they killed your parents, and you will take revenge one by one when you grow up; the second sentence is to prevent women from cheating, the more good-looking women are, the more they will deceive people.

These words appear as a small climax at the beginning of the story, and the people who watch it are full of blood, but what is the result? Zhang Wuji didn't listen to a word, he didn't think about revenge when he grew up, and he was always deceived by beautiful women in his life.

Even the relationship with the four women was twisted and pinched, and when Jin Lao was revised for the last time, he set Zhang Wuji to have a dream at night, dreaming that the four women were hugged by him left and right, which is equivalent to secretly explaining that Zhang Wuji wants to get the four of them at the same time.

Therefore, most people think that Zhang Wuji is not a chivalrous hero, but he has a bad fate, and he is only blessed with a fortune later.

Jin Lao himself wrote in the afterword: Zhang Wuji's personality is more complex and weak. He is less heroic, and although there are many advantages and disadvantages in his personality, perhaps, he is more similar to us ordinary people.

As for Jin Lao's sealed work "The Legend of Deer and Ding", not to mention, Wei Xiaobao's character is destined to be not a chivalrous man who is "recognized by the vast majority of people". But there are also many people who think that although Wei Xiaobao is full of lies and does not learn and has no skills, he is unwilling to betray his friends, but he can also be called chivalrous.

In my own concept, I will always reduce the word chivalry and realize the imaginary characters.

Personalities are extremely complex, diverse, and ever-changing. Different stages of life have different personality characteristics. Therefore, in terms of character setting, I am not good at defining a person's life with a proper term. For example, "bold", "arrogant", "withdrawn", "free-spirited", "kind", "naughty", etc., if I have to describe them, I would prefer them to be independent and free-willed.

That's why I'm writing more about humanity than anything else.
