Ancient India Journey Through Time (2) – Follow the Buddha's Dervishes

India is such a good place, why? Because there is a Buddha, so even if I can always have the opportunity to go back there to meet the Buddha, I think maybe I will not only wake up laughing in the middle of the night, but also be happy during the day, haha, the end of the above is written to be continued, so today we continue our trip to ancient India.

Traveling through time and space, I came to an ancient Indian city, the people who came and went in the streets, all seemed to be relatively simple, there were women walking together in traditional Indian clothes, there were also shepherds driving cattle, the land in the city was sandy, a lot of sand would be on the shoes when you stepped on it, the roads in the city were not wide, and there were not many trees in the city, so they could not block the scorching sun. At the foot of the walls of the city lay some poor people in shabby clothes and sick who made their homes everywhere, and in stark contrast to the poor were the nobles who rode in elephant chariots and horse-drawn carriages, all of them brightly dressed, and their hair ornaments were very jeweled, and their expressions showed a condescending feeling. At this time, my intuition told me that this should be the legendary Acropolis, looking at the Acropolis at this time, I thought of the Acropolis that I had visited when I went to India on pilgrimage, and the difference between the Acropolis in ancient India and the modern Acropolis is still quite large, and many buildings in ancient India have long disappeared at this time. However, the sun in ancient India and the current sun are still relatively unified, it is still so hot, the sun is scorching, and the people here are all tanned, and I didn't wear sunscreen before I came, I don't know if it will also be tanned. I was playing with delusions, and suddenly found that I was wearing the wrong clothes today, it was a little boy dressed up, red belly pocket, red shorts, red shoes, silver bracelets, red and red drops of Chinese style and here obviously do not match, no, no, even to enter the countryside to follow the customs, to become a little black brother, otherwise people will treat me as a rare animal to visit, just want to transform, suddenly someone behind me patted me on the shoulder, I turned around and saw a thin black monk wearing a tawny monk's robe, this monk smiled at me very compassionately and said, "Follow me." His smile was too compassionate, I followed him all the way out of the city without resistance, and after walking for a while came to a big house, in fact, it should be a mansion with a private garden, I looked at this layout, I felt that the little one was a little familiar, and I felt that there was a shadow of Gion, I asked the Dharma Protector Pot: "Protector, is this the Gion?" Protector Pot: "Yes, it is Gion, you will meet the Buddha later, remember to be reserved, understand the rules, don't embarrass me." I glanced at the Dharma Protector, and I was very unconvinced, thinking: I underestimate me too much, I'm usually very reserved, I'm not crazy, Xiaoyan I have always been a very calm person when I encounter big scenes. I met a Dharma protector who didn't have confidence in me, 55.

I followed the monk through the gate, the outer wall of the Gion was white, only the gate was already very beautiful and luxurious, and then I followed the monk to a large hall, and then I vaguely heard the voice of the Buddha speaking the Dharma, and suddenly I was excited and nervous, and I unconsciously danced and roared, and sure enough, I was told by the Dharma Protector, and I really began to lose my reserve. Well, it turned out that it wasn't that the Dharma Protector didn't have confidence in me, but that he had already seen that I would not be reserved.

As I walked with the monks and looked around, I saw that there was a corridor around the main hall for people to walk, and between the corridor and the listening place hung a thin veil, and if you walked out of the main hall, there was a garden, a spring pool, a meadow, and various rooms where the monks rested. The layout is very reasonable and practical.

The compassionate monk took me to the corridor and whispered to me, "Wait here first, and then I will call you later." I nodded, thinking of the Dharma Protector's advice, and I stood obediently and quietly and solemnly, even slowing down my breathing. But although I was very nervous, but still did not change my true character as a reporter, I looked around, and kept admiring the big heart of the lonely elder, when I saw the ground in the center of the hall, wow, it was really really golden, the golden glow, this piece turned to the modern day but it was worth a lot, the original legends are true, too amazing. I peeked through the thin veil and secretly looked at the position of the Buddha, who was sitting on a large throne in the center and at the highest point, preaching the Dharma to the monks sitting below, and the throne where the Buddha was sitting was inlaid with jewels and gold, which was really very high-end, atmospheric, and high-grade.

Just as I was looking around with joy, I heard, "Yeon, come here." "Ah, I was shocked, are you calling me? The Buddha was chanting with his heart to call me over, wow, I was so happy, when I was a child, I was afraid of the teacher's roll call, and now I am called by the Buddha, this feeling is the feeling of being so excited that I am about to faint, I quickly came to the Buddha from the corridor, bowed to the Buddha, and then stood in front of the Buddha with my palms folded and bowed. Since my dress today is a little out of line with local customs, the monks below are a little bit at each other's throats, and they are probably guessing where I came from, haha. At this time, the Buddha said to me, "Yan, what do you want to know when you come here today?" I replied cautiously: "I would like to tell the Buddha that my disciple is here today to follow you to experience the most authentic begging for food, and to hope that the Buddha will be merciful and benevolent." After hearing this, the Buddha said, "As far as I know, after my extinction, the tradition of begging for food in the dervishes has gradually declined, and there is no such tradition in the Eastern land. Before begging, I have questions for you, and you answer me truthfully one by one. "When I heard that the Buddha was going to ask me a question, I was shocked and scared, I was a student in a Buddhist kindergarten, how could I answer the Buddha's question, oh, what an anxiety.

Buddha: "After I am extinct, what will I be the teacher of the world?"

Ah, I know this, and I replied without thinking: "Buddha, it is the precept, and the precept is the teacher." ”

The Buddha nodded and said, "I have observed that in your time, it is no longer easy to keep the precepts, and it is difficult for people in the world to keep even the basic five precepts, and many situations are more complicated than at this time.

Again, I replied without hesitation: "You must keep, Buddha, you are the teacher of all human beings, we practice according to your teachings, and we will do what you teach." And you are a great enlightened being, and you already know everything that is to come, so you have made a precept that only keeps the truth and does not change with the times. ”

Then the Buddha asked, "If you beg with me today, do you know the merits and benefits of begging?"

I thought about it for a moment, and I was ashamed to reply, "By breaking away from discrimination and not being greedy for delicious food, the public will benefit greatly from the blessing of offering the Sangha Treasure." I really don't know anything else. ”

The Buddha looked at me with a smile, but my heart went up and down, thinking, Buddha, don't ask me any more questions, I may not be able to answer any more questions, people who don't like to read and study on weekdays, can't afford it, the Buddha may know my thoughts, so he never asks me questions again.

At this time, I saw the Buddha and the crowd get up from their seats, tidy up their clothes, and prepare to set off for the city to beg for food, and I became a little novice dress, haha, this is how to ride, it looks much more comfortable.

I walked next to the Buddha, who was so tall that in front of me, a child, was a big giant, and I felt very relieved to rely on. Suddenly, I remembered that I had seen that in order to avoid killing insects and ants, the saints walked with their feet without touching the ground on weekdays, so I secretly observed the feet of the Buddha to see if the Buddha's feet were really off the ground when he walked. When I satisfied my curiosity and was laughing secretly, the Buddha turned his head and smiled at me, haha, it seems that we really know everything about our every move and mind of the Buddha.

The Buddha led the disciples to the city, and there were already waiting civilians in the city waiting for the arrival of the Buddha and his disciples with food in their hands, all of which was carried out in a very orderly and natural and respectful manner, and people sincerely offered the Buddha and the Sangha treasure to eat, and soon everyone's empty bowl was filled with all kinds of food, and everyone was ready to return to the ashram with a bowl full of food, but the Buddha continued to walk, and everyone continued to follow, but I was very curious, I don't know where the Buddha was going At this time, I saw a thin and swarthy poor old woman come to the Buddha, knelt down and held up her thin hands holding half of a shortbread and said to the Buddha: "Compassion and respect Buddha, please accept my offering, this is my most precious food, I have no money, only this half of the bread is all I have, I finally muster up the courage to come to you today, I ask you to fulfill my wish." Before she could finish speaking, the old woman was already in tears. When the Buddha listened, he bent down and took the half of the bread and said to the old woman, "Old man, I accept your offering, your offering is sincere, this half of the bread is an incomparably precious food for you, and to me it is also something more precious than a treasure, please get up." When the old woman heard the Buddha say this, her nervous and worried emotions suddenly relaxed, she breathed a long sigh of relief, stood up and saluted the Buddha with her hands folded, and watched the Buddha and his party with gratitude, and saw that the old man had plucked up great courage to offer this half of the bread to the Buddha, so when the Buddha accepted it, she would breathe a deep sigh of relief.

The Buddha came to the old man's side and said to the old man, "Old man, I am a monk who is here to give me some food, I wonder if it is okay?" He thought about it, and took out a bag from under his body, this bag contained a small bag of food, and when he opened it, he saw that it was some food similar to beans, and the old man said, "Honorable bhikkhus, please accept my offerings, this is my treasured food, and I am willing to offer it all to you." The old man was unable to get up because of his illness, so he grabbed the Buddha's hand and stuffed a small half bag of beans into the Buddha's hand, and the Buddha accepted the offering of the old man's half a bag of beans and blessed the old man: "Thank you for your sincere and selfless offerings, and may you be cured of your illness as soon as possible." "The old man thanked the Buddha, this scene I was really moved, this blind old man, suffering from illness, did not know that it was the great Buddha himself who came to beg for food, did not treat the Sangha treasure without a little discrimination, and offered his most precious only food to the Sangha treasure, such a spirit is really amazing, really a praise.

With the begging food, the Buddha led everyone back to the ashram, the monks washed their feet, sat down and ate the begging food quietly, everyone did not have any waste, I looked back at the Buddha, only to see that the Buddha was eating the half of the bread offered by the old woman, the Buddha really did not have a trace of discrimination, in the eyes of the Buddha, half a piece of bread and delicious food and drink are no different.

After everyone had finished eating and washing, the Buddha asked me, "Yan, how do you feel about the experience of begging with me today, and come one by one?" ”

I reported to the Buddha: "Buddha, this is the first time I have experienced begging for food, to be honest, in my country and time, there is no such opportunity, and there are very few monasteries and monks to inherit such traditions, only some countries of Southern Buddhism still have such traditions, today I see the public's respect for the Sangha and sincere offerings very, very touched, but also see that you treat the poor and ordinary people equally, and at the same time, you also suffer from diseases People also have the opportunity to make offerings to the Sangha treasure and get immeasurable merit, and your incomparable compassion is fully reflected in this kind of small things, Xiaoyan really felt it this time. ”

Still smiling, the Buddha taught, "Yan, I am begging for food, and you have already answered this before, to break the greed and discrimination, so that everyone has the opportunity to make offerings to the Sangha and accumulate merit." The second is to warn everyone to practice righteousness in order to obtain food and daily necessities, and not to rely on other improper means to obtain them. At the same time, it can also allow everyone to get rid of the arrogance in their hearts, let go of themselves from practice, and get immeasurably free. According to my observation, in your time, even if there was a tradition of dervishes, it was no longer the dervishes of today, but had changed into a form, which is a pity.

After hearing this, I folded my son: "The disciple obeys." ”

It is a very happy thing to follow the Buddha to experience the most authentic dervishes and beggars, and today Xiaoyan has experienced it, and slightly understands that the rituals and precepts formulated by the Buddha have far-reaching intentions, because the Buddha has already known everything in the past, present, and future, and we do not have that ability, so the safest way is to act according to the Buddha's teachings, honestly keep the precepts, and do the duty of the Buddha.

Well, the old rule: this crossing has successfully completed the mission. And then it's still marked with a spoiler mark of "to be continued", hahaha.
