Quanzhen Religion in History
When I wrote these chapters, I deliberately checked the map of the Southern Song Dynasty, and found that not only Shaolin Temple, but even Zhongnan Mountain, where the Quanzhen Sect is located, is actually in the territory of the Jin Kingdom, so I couldn't help but continue to check the history of the Quanzhen Sect, and found that there was a big difference between it and the novel, so I summarized it and shared it with you.
Jin Daxia was a true fan when he shot the Condor, and when he wrote about the Condor, he became all true black. But in fact, the Quanzhen religion and history in these two books are very different.
First of all, Wang Chongyang was indeed a lifelong anti-Jin man, but when the seven sons of Quanzhen were in charge, the rule of the Jin State had been stabilized, and the mountain gate of the Quanzhen Sect was located in the territory of the Jin State, so he had to have a good relationship with the Jin State. In fact, Qiu Chuji also helped Jin Guo quell a rebellion, without bringing soldiers and horses, and purely using diplomacy to get it, which shows his charisma.
After the rise of Mongolia, Qiu Chuji faced the olive branch (edict) handed over by Mongolia, Song and Jin, and chose Mongolia alone. When he met Genghis Khan, he persuaded Genghis Khan with Taoist philosophy, persuading him to "respect heaven and love the people, reduce slaughter, and have a pure heart and few desires", and passed on the reputation of stopping killing. Soon after, the Quanzhen Sect was edicted by Genghis Khan as "the Taoist religion in charge of the world".
There is a scene in the Condor that the Mongols enshrined the Quanzhen Sect, and the Quanzhen Sect was angry that it betrayed the alliance and invaded the Song Dynasty, so it refused to be sealed, which triggered a big war in the mountain gate of the Quanzhen Sect, and also caused the little dragon girl to be seriously injured by the Golden Wheel Dharma King and the five sons of Quanzhen, and Yang Guo saved the United States with one arm, etc.
However, in the real history, the Quanzhen Sect was not only enshrined, but Yin Zhiping, the head of the sect at that time, also rapidly developed and expanded the Quanzhen Sect, and at its peak, there were hundreds of Quanzhen Taoist temples in the country, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of disciples, and countless believers. But being sealed does not mean that there is a moral flaw, or that sentence, the mountain gate is held in the palm of someone's hand, unless you can abandon the ancestral inheritance and the life of the same family, you can only obey. At least after being sealed, the tax-free land around the Taoist temple can be used to relieve many people who have suffered from war. Therefore, Yin Zhiping has a great reputation in Taoist history, and I don't understand why Lao Jin blackmailed him to death.
Such a huge force should have been feared by the Yuan and Meng, so by the time of Li Zhichang, the Quanzhen Sect was attacked by the Yuan and Mongolian officials (Kublai Khan). Kublai Khan himself believed in Buddhism, and at that time, Quanzhen not only converted many temples into Taoist temples, but also published the Laozi Huahu Sutra, which was hostile to Buddhism, so Buddhist monks (among them Shaolin monks) debated with Li Zhichang and other Quanzhen disciples in front of Kublai Khan, and Quanzhen was defeated. So Kublai Khan ordered the Quanzhen Sect to burn all the "Lao Tzu Hua Hu Jing", return the encroached temples, etc., and the power of the Quanzhen Sect went downhill from then on.
