Chapter Seventy-Seven: Borrowing the Scriptures
Shaolin Temple, Tibetan Scripture Pavilion.
A young monk dressed in gray robes walked to a bookshelf with a wooden box, then bent down and took out a sutra book from the wooden box, carefully placed it on the shelf, and when he saw that the pages were stained with dust, he gently wiped it off with his sleeve.
He moved very slowly, and only took one book at a time, as if he was very protective of the scriptures, and there were only dozens of books in the wooden box, but he worked for most of the hour to put all the scriptures in order.
He checked the shelves again, and saw that there was no damage to the newly dried scriptures, so he was finally relieved, and then he turned and walked to another bookshelf, took out the top book from a wooden compartment, turned the pages a little, and began to stand and study.
He didn't start from the front page of the book, he had obviously read it before, and this time he just picked up where he didn't finish it last time.
The young monk read the book more slowly than he put the book, and after seeing his eyes on the page, he would move back for a long time, and there were only more than 100 ink characters on a page, and he read them all for half an hour, and then said to himself: "People are dyed with five desires and six dusts, and the flesh is just a skin and a foreign way, and it is nothing to give up, but this "Ranga Sutra" is very precious, and this senior has written a set of methods to strengthen the body in the cracks of the scriptures, is there any deep meaning?"
He frowned and thought for a while, then said to himself: "Yes, although the skin of the physical body is only the appearance of the body, there is no need to care, but to understand the Buddha's principles and reach the state of clear mind, you need the physical body to cross. In the past, after reading the scriptures, I often felt that my mind was sluggish, but only after practicing this method of strengthening my body for many years, not only did I not feel tired physically and mentally, but on the contrary, Yu Jia was healthy, which was of great help to me in reading the scriptures and reasoning. ”
He seemed to have figured out a problem that had plagued him for many years, and his face unconsciously showed a look of relief, and he was about to turn the page to continue watching, but he heard the sound of a conversation between the two outside the pavilion door.
One person said, "This senior brother, I have come to pick up a few scriptures on the order of the master, I don't know if it is possible?"
Another replied, "I don't know which book you're looking for?" Name me, and I'll check the list to see if it's included." ”
And the man before gave the name of the book.
After a while, another person replied, "These scriptures are in the scripture pavilion, you wait here, I will go and fetch them for you." ”
Immediately, the wooden door was opened, and a long-faced monk walked in and shouted at the door: "Jueyuan!"
The young monk answered, hurriedly put the scripture in his hand back to its place, and then hurriedly walked to the door, Shi Li said, "I don't know what the senior brother called me?"
When the long-faced monk saw him coming, he said, "Go and get the first three volumes of the Lotus Sutra." ”
The young monk turned again to look for the scriptures, and after a while he turned back again, holding the three volumes in his hands, and handed them to the long-faced monk.
The long-faced monk nodded slightly, went out of the door with the scripture book in hand, and said to a gray-clothed monk standing in front of the door: "I have found the scripture you want for you, and they are all here." ”
The gray-clothed monk thanked him, and after taking the scriptures with both hands, he asked again, "Is the name that Senior Brother Fang Cai shouted Jueyuan?"
The long-faced monk nodded and said, "Jueyuan has been serving in the Tibetan Scripture Pavilion for several years, and he is responsible for cleaning and miscellaneous things on weekdays, but you have something to look for him?"
When the gray-clothed monk heard this, his face was slightly surprised, and he said in his heart: "There is really a monk who is far away." He replied: "It's not that I have something to look for him, it's this Yang Shi who is looking for him." ”
The long-faced monk had already noticed the young man behind him, so he asked, "I don't know who this Yang Shizhu is......"
The gray-clothed monk said: "This Yang Shizhu is a descendant of the Zen Master Wuxi, and this time he came to the temple to look for people. ”
The young man stepped forward, and Shi Li said, "Boy Yang Guo, I have seen the master. ”
The long-faced monk hurriedly said: "I don't dare to be called a master, I am not only a junior of the Zen Master of Wuxi, but also a distinguished guest of our temple, I don't know what is the matter of Lord Yang looking for Najueyuan?"
Yang Guo said: "My mother advocates Buddhism, the boy has been nurtured since he was a child, and he is also yearning for Buddhist scriptures. ”
The long-faced monk was puzzled in his heart, and thought: "Jueyuan has always been silent, when did he become so famous? ”
He thought so in his heart, but said in his mouth, "Lord Yang can have this heart, which means that he has a fate with my Buddha, and I should give it convenient." That Jueyuan still has a position in his body, so I will let him interpret the Buddhist scriptures for you in addition to his position, how about it?"
Yang Guo saw that things were going so well, and he was happy in his heart, and he hurriedly thanked him: "So there is Master Lao, I wonder if I can invite Master Jueyuan to come out and see him?"
The long-faced monk returned the salute and said, "This is what you should do, and I will let Jueyuan come out to see you." With that, he turned around and walked into the pavilion again.
While waiting, the gray-clothed monk said to Yang Guo: "I'm really ashamed, as a disciple in the temple, I am not as familiar with the situation in the temple as Yang Shizhu, I don't know how Yang Shizhu learned the name of Jueyuan?"
Yang Guo said: "The kid also heard from others by chance, and he can't be sure that Master Jueyuan is in your temple. ”
When the gray-clothed monk heard this, he said, "If a monk is convenient with others, he is convenient with himself, so why bother to say thank you? Now that I have found someone, I still have something to do, so I will not stay longer." After giving a salute, he turned and left.
At this time, the long-faced monk also turned around, and it was the young monk in the pavilion who walked with him.
Yang Guo set his eyes on the young monk, and said in his heart: "Is this Jueyuan?" He looked carefully, and saw that the young monk had an elegant face, quite bookish, and at the same time secretly praised in his heart, he inevitably felt some emotion, and thought: "Shaolin Temple has thousands of scriptures, if you are not obsessed with scriptures, it will be difficult to see the "Jiuyang Sutra" from the "Ranga Sutra". However, it is precisely because of this Jue Yuan Xi Shu Danwu, but he gave up this great opportunity, and he also incurred his death because of this, this drink and peck, for him, I don't know whether it is a blessing or a curse. ”
When he looked at Jueyuan and thought about it, the long-faced monk had already introduced Yang Guo to Jueyuan, and then said: "This Yang donor's heart is to my Buddha, you should try your best to explain the Buddhist scriptures for him, and you must not have any neglect." ”
After seeing Jueyuan's response, he said to Yang Guo: "You two can talk first, and if you have other questions, you can come to me again." After tithing with his hands together, he departed.
Jue Yuan saw that Yang Guo had been staring at him, so he said: "The little monk has seen Yang Shizhu, but what is wrong with Yang Shizhu seeing Xiao Seng?"
Yang Guo's eyes were blazing, and he asked, "Master has an apprentice named Zhang Junbao, I don't know where he is?"
Jueyuan was stunned for a moment, and said with blank eyes: "I don't know why Yang Shizhu said this? The little monk has never accepted an apprentice for many years, but the little monk has never known about what the donor said. ”
When Yang Guo heard this, he felt a little disappointed in his heart, and thought: "In this way, the generation of strange people who will shine in the future should not be born yet, and my wish to accept the younger brother cannot be fulfilled." ”
He said perfunctorily: "It should be me who made a mistake, and the master doesn't need to pay attention to it." ”
Jueyuan hurriedly said: "Master Yang can call me Jueyuan." ”
Yang Guo ignored it and said, "Master, this scripture pavilion should contain many scriptures from your temple, I wonder if I can enter and take a look?"
Jueyuan's face was embarrassed, and he said, "This ...... The donor is not a disciple of my temple, but this move is against the temple rules. ”
Yang Guoxin said: "It's okay if you can't go inside to watch. Then he said, "I have been looking for a few volumes of scriptures, but I wonder if the master can find these books and let me borrow them for a few days. ”
