Chapter Twenty-Six: To the North

The ice dragon lowered its head and stared thoughtfully at the surface of the lake that had begun to freeze.

It is a flat area close to the summit of Esteros, mostly occupied by small lakes simply known as "glacial lakes". The lake is said to have been shaped like a pit by a giant that fell from the sky during the battle between giants and gods, and melted snow poured into it. The black of the rocks, the white of the snow and ice, and the blue of the lake are the only colors in this inaccessible place where no life exists.

This small lake has a tranquility and solemnity not found in Stanestelle, surrounded by a sea of flowers. The white clouds torn by the wind swept across the lake, revealing a deep and boundless blue sky, and the ripples that constantly rose between the ice floes seemed to have some kind of great attraction, tempting people to plunge into it, through time and space, into another world.

It saw its own huge reflection on the mirror-like water, so familiar and yet strange.

"It's beautiful here, isn't it?" someone asked not far away.

The ice dragon spread its wings a little impatiently. Instinct drove it to slap the obnoxious human out of its sight like a poor little bug, but reason told it that it was not wise to treat a powerful mage like that.

Lydia floated lightly beyond the range of the ice dragon's wings, hanging slightly a foot or so from the ground, not dismissing the elemental elves that looked like a small whirlwind at her feet, the black skirt and long sleeves lifted by the wind flapping against each other, hunting.

"When winter comes, the entire lake is covered in snow and ice. Looking up from underwater, the translucent ice was a pale shade of blue, the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. Lydia whispered, smiling at the ice dragon, "Your mother's lair is at the bottom of the lake...... But it looks like you already know?"

The ice dragon stretched out its front paws and poked into the lake, disturbing the ripples on the water's surface. The icy water of the lake gently sinked into the fine scales of its claws, making it feel very comfortable.

"Your mother, Ankramaaras Bingman, is cautious and low-key. It lived here for many years and was never found. ”

"You found it. The ice dragon said, his voice low and deep, but without any emotion, just simply stating the facts.

But the mage didn't miss its suddenly constricted pupils.

"Human curiosity knows no bounds, and its luck is not so good. If you don't want to end up in the same fate as it, either get out of here or hide underwater. The paladins of the god of water are coming. ”

"I'm not going to hide, I'm not going to run away. "From the very high sky, it could see the stupid knights gathered at the foot of the mountain, their heavy, reflective, easily sinking into the snow in their armor that made it ridiculous.

"You may be strong, but there are many of them. To defeat them, you'll need help. ”

"You?" said the ice dragon sarcastically.

"It's a great honor. Lydia raised an eyebrow, suddenly turning her attention back to the water.

"We've got company. She said with great interest, holding her index finger to her lips at the ice dragon, and disappeared without a trace in an instant.

The entire lake shook slightly, and then quickly tilted to the southwest, where the water collapsed downward, forming a huge whirlpool that swirled with a low roar. Then, as suddenly as it appeared, with a dull popping sound underwater, the whirlpool disappeared, and small waves splashed on the ice dragon's front paws on the surface of the water that had gradually calmed down.

There was a soft splash, and two heads popped out of the water. One of them was cursing loudly.

"Why the hell do I believe you?!" Alan Carvo shook his head and wiped the water from his eyes, "You call this 'safe and fast'?!"

"I'm sorry. Cele Brian grabbed him with one hand and raised his staff with the other, the gray gem at the tip of the staff flickered faintly, emitting a moonlit water-colored glow, enveloping the two men in it, "It was an accident. ”

He looked at the shore and finished his words in a smooth voice: "There will always be surprises. ”

The ice dragon let out an angry roar, flapped its wings and flew into the sky, swooped down again, skimmed lightly across the water, grabbed the man who was slowly rising in the soft light with its hind paws, and flew back to the shore, and threw it roughly on the rocky protrusions.

The bubbles provided as much cushioning as possible before popping, and Alan still felt like his bones were falling apart. Calebryne got up without saying a word and put his hand on Alan's shoulder.

The warrior, who had already had a slight gray temple, shivered, and white moisture came out of his soaked clothes.

"What did you do!" the ice dragon roared as he approached them, "Don't think I won't kill you, Alan Cavo!"

"Trying to save your life?" Alan sat up with a gloomy face, looking at the dragon in front of him, his heart mixed.

"Or the destruction of corpses. The ice dragon squatted on its hind paws and glared at him coldly.

Alan was stunned for a moment - it sounded like he already knew everything, could it be that the ice dragon had already entered the lair?

"That's right, your mother's bones lie underneath. The Half-Elf Priest said coldly, "We really don't want those paladins to find this place and find any clues that could be related to us, and I guess you won't like them dragging the skeleton of the Ice Mang out and placing it in the square of the Collins Temple with your corpse for people to see?"

Alan was taken aback.

"Celebrion!" he exclaimed, it was not a good idea to provoke the ice dragon at this time.

The ice dragon roared, and the rocks that were shaken loose bounced and rolled down on top of them.

"Wait! Is......"

"That's not my name!"

"Well, Son of Ice-" Alan sighed, the dead ice dragon probably hadn't named an egg yet, "before you kill us, you need to know that the knights of the water god are coming up the mountain." Believe it or not, I don't want you to die at their hands...... You need to get out of here. You may be able to defeat them once or twice, but that will only make the recalcitrant knights even more reluctant to give up, and the number of adventurers willing to help them for a variety of reasons is unimaginable. Alan gasped, "You may not believe me anymore, but Scott ......"

"How dare you mention that name again. The ice dragon's vertical pupils contracted dangerously, and there was real murderous intent in his deep voice.

A shiver rose from behind, and Alan quickly changed his words: "Then trust your instincts! No dragon has ever been stupid enough to insist on confronting humans head-on, that is pointless!"

The ice dragon lowered its head, as if in deep thought.

Alan quietly breathed a sigh of relief. Humans don't know much about dragons, but they did some research before killing the ice rays. In the Elven accounts, the Ice Dragon, also known as the Ice Spinosaurus or Spinosaurus because of the thorns on its long tail, was the most cold and lazy of all dragons, often sleeping for hundreds of years, and was not as aggressive as the Fire Dragon, except to plunder treasure or food, or to invade its territory.

The young ice dragon still retains too many human emotions, and perhaps one day he can use those emotions to find his human Is, but now he only hopes that his natural abilities will keep him away from this dangerous place.

"I'll leave. The ice dragon finally spoke, his voice tinged with weariness, "There's nothing worth staying here. Any of you...... Never appear in front of me again. ”

It took a few steps back, turned and spread its wings. Humanity, forever bound to the earth, watched wordlessly as the gigantic creature glided across the blue lake and then slammed into the sky.

Whether as a human or a dragon, it is still homeless after all.

It hovered for the last time at the summit of Estero, flying higher and higher in everyone's eyes, disappearing far north into the horizon.

"Lydia. Calebryne faintly called out the familiar name, ignoring Allen's astonished gaze, "Come out." ”

The invisible mage reappeared a moment later with a sweet smile, they hadn't seen her in more than a decade, but her face hadn't changed in any way.

Lydia looked at her former companion with a smile, "Good job. But it doesn't matter, I didn't intend to kill it. After all, when it was only a little bigger...... "she gestured with her hand, and there was a hint of unseen tenderness in her lowered eyes, "I used to hold it in my arms and try to make it laugh as much as I could." ”

"That didn't stop you from throwing fireballs at him. Alan gritted his teeth, realizing that it was Lydia who was forcing Iss to use dragon instinct to protect himself in the forest: "Wait...... Why can you still throw fireballs? A necromancer......"

"A necromancer shouldn't be able to use elemental magic? Oh, Alan, how much do you know about a necromancer. Lydia smiled lazily.

"You know me, Lydia. I'll know more. "And you'll pay for itβ€”for what you did to Is...... For Laugen and Nia!"

"They're going to die from your stupidity and deception, just like that ice dragon will end up in the same way!" Lydia lost control slightly, but immediately calmed down again, "Besides, I'm not sure you'll have that chance, after all, I can't think of any reason to let you go." There was still a faint smile on her red lips, but her green eyes were becoming gloomy a little.

"It may not be as easy as you think. Cele Brian looked up at her, his silver-gray eyes piercing.

Lydia looked at him silently for a moment.

"You're dying. She said suddenly.

"Not now. The half-elf was unmoved.

"Okay. The mage gestured in resignation, "Actually, I can also find a way to let the paladins know that you decided to adopt it knowing that it was a dragon? I bet they won't make it easy for you." ”

"Then I wouldn't mind telling everyone that Lydia Bell is alive and a necromancer. ”

Lydia shrugged, "Oh, those paladins don't trust you so easily. ”

"But there are still a lot of people who will- those people may not care what has become of you, but are you ready for more people to follow you to find out the whereabouts of the Ice Dragon's treasure?" Alan sneered, "You can't get away with this matter, and they will have absolutely legitimate reasons to do something that is not so legitimate." ”

Lydia's face darkened, but she quickly returned to normal.

"In that case, I'm guessing you'll be in front of those paladins as if I never showed up, though we'll definitely meet again. She said in a cheerful tone.

As she drove the wind elemental under her feet away, she couldn't help but fantasize about what it felt like to fly freely like a dragon. When the wind elves are holding people, they can't get more than five feet off the ground.

Alan let out a long sigh and fell to the ground, the mage's words still ringing in her ears.

"You're dying?" he asked, his heart beating fast and heavy.

"Everybody is going to die. Calebryne replied nonchalantly, "What are you going to do next?"

β€œ...... I have to protect him. Alan replied, "I promised Scott that I would take good care of him......"

"That's a dragon, Alan, and he's far stronger than we are. And he hates us more than anyone else. The half-elf spoke calmly.

"But he's still a child......" Alan muttered, thinking of the baby he had held in his arms, the cold little hand that Scott had placed in his palm, and the faint smile on the overly well-behaved young man's face, and his heart throbbed.

How could he just think of him as a dragon?

What's more, even if he was willing to give up, Narya would never be. She said that if she wanted to find Is, she would definitely do it, even if it would take a lifetime.
