Chapter 9: Diary

Xue Kaimo opened the old diary and found that there were only seven days of content in it:

Last day.

Only now I finally have the opportunity to write down everything that has happened these days. They thought I was dead like everyone else, but they didn't think that I had some undiscovered value as a failed test subject. But I only have twenty-four hours left, and after twenty-four hours I will be a real dead body, with no possibility of resurrection.

Day 1.

We were taken to the multipurpose hall on the seventh floor of Building One, and we had never known there was such a classroom in Building One because everyone had the impression that Building One had only six floors. We were secretly taken out of the dormitory in batches at midnight, a total of twenty-eight people, and according to the school version, we were all infected with the virus in the dish of the five-colored hoof tendon.

In fact, only eight people had eaten that dish, and the remaining twenty people were infected by them, and I was infected by Xu Tong, who slept on my top bunk. Ever since Xu Tong had eaten that five-colored hoof tendon, he had been in the dormitory to describe the specialness of that dish to me, except for the time spent in the cafeteria. When Xu Tong mentioned that dish, his eyebrows fluttered and his hands danced, and I didn't know how much saliva I ate when I listened to him, I would never have thought that I would be forced to this point because of my curiosity about that dish. One day, Xu Tong suddenly told me that he could suddenly see something that no one else could see, such as a dormitory building No. 3 in this school, and there were some students living in that building, who usually went to class, ate, and walked on the sidewalk of the campus with us, but we couldn't see them before. I told Xu Tong that he must have been dazzled, or he had come up with a hallucination about the dish. But Xu Tong had a very serious expression on his face, and he swore that he was not mistaken. After that, Xu Tong mentioned this matter to different people, and unsurprisingly, no one believed his nonsense. But one afternoon, when Xu Tong and I were returning from the cafeteria to the dormitory, he suddenly pointed to the steps in front of the library and told me that there was a girl standing on it. At first I thought he was joking, because there were only a few leaves blown by the wind on the steps, and there was not even a ghost on the other steps. But Xu Tong didn't leave, and he must let me see it clearly. I had no choice but to follow his finger to look again, and strangely enough, that time I did see the shadow of a girl on the steps, and the shadow became clearer and clearer, but I couldn't see her face clearly. That's because your poison isn't deep enough, Xu Tong said to me.

Since then, my feelings for those transparent people have become stronger and stronger, and I can sometimes even hear them talking to themselves incoherently. Before sunset, I could also get a better look at the outline of the No. 3 dormitory building, and only then did I know that I had been infected by the virus on Xu Tong's body.
