Chapter 10: The First Night
Xu Tong and I started talking to the others about what we saw, but the reaction was the same as my initial reaction, and they thought we were both crazy. Later, Xu Tong and I found the same kind, that is, the two dozen or so people who were also infected by the virus. We often get together to speculate about what we see in Dorm 3 and whether the transparent people really exist, and some people offer to go directly into Building 3 to see it, some people suggest that we can try to talk to the transparent people we meet, but these are just proposals, because no one dares to take that risk.
Eventually, those on campus who were not infected by the virus began to pay attention to our remarks, and more and more people began to have the same suspicions as us. But it was at this point that 28 of us were taken to the multipurpose hall on the seventh floor of Building 1, where we were convinced of everything we had doubted.
I was the third group to be brought into Building 1 (28 of us were taken away in four groups to avoid alarming the others), and Xu Tong walked behind me, and I could hear his breathing getting heavier and heavier, that is, he was as nervous as I was. It soon became clear to me that it was not just the two of us who were nervous, that someone in the group had begun to fall, and that in the not-so-bright night I could only see a black shadow swaying on the ground, and that man's legs and feet must have been as soft as persimmon skin. Walking to Building 1, we can only see a huge black shadow of Building 1, and all the light seems to have disappeared from the world. A girl cried, but was immediately stopped by Director Li, who led the team: "Don't make a sound, otherwise no one will be able to save you from your illness." "To be honest, we never see ourselves as patients, it's just that we can see things that others can't, so should we also be treated in isolation, unless the school is trying to cover up something. Thinking of this, I couldn't help but shudder, and at the same time, I silently hoped in my heart that my guess was wrong.
Walking into Building No. 1, the only light came from the blue-black night light through the hanging windows of the classrooms on both sides of the corridor, and the footsteps of seven or eight people echoed in the empty and narrow corridor, making it easy to think of the condemned prisoners and the execution ground. At the door of the elevator room, everyone stopped, Director Li stretched out his hand into the darkness, and then the elevator door slowly opened, and almost everyone was almost blinded by the lights in the elevator room. In the elevator hall, the button of the multi-purpose hall on the seventh floor appeared on the electronic board, and when Director Li pressed the button, all the people were surprised while searching for memories of this button in their already numb brains, and I think all of them should have the same conclusion as me: that button never appeared.
The door of the elevator room opened again, and we were ushered into an incredibly spacious classroom by Director Li, or we could call it a dormitory, a ward, an insane asylum, in short, this will be our prison for life. There were twenty-eight beds in this room, and the two groups of people in front of them were already making their beds, and when they saw us coming in, they wanted to wave and say hello, but they all lowered their heads and continued to focus on the bedding and sheets in their hands, and we also felt the oppression in this room, the oppression of the lack of oxygen.
"Everybody has their name on their bedside, finds their own bed, and then packs up and goes to bed. "Director Li gave orders to us, the newcomers, and at the same time, I don't know where to walk out of Director Tian. "Leave it to me here, you go and get the next batch. Director Tian said to Director Li.
"Are we going to sleep in the same room as the boys?" asked one girl timidly. Not far from her, another girl holding a pillow immediately gestured to her with a stern look, but Director Tian had already walked up to the girl who was questioning, raised the syringe in his hand and plunged it into the girl's neck. With the girl's scream, everyone saw that a pale cyan liquid in the syringe was being quickly pushed into the girl's body. The girl's face instantly turned a terrifying lilac color, and the expression on her face was hideous and terrifying, like a Halloween mask, and after a few seconds, the girl collapsed to the ground without a sound, unconscious.
"She's not going to die, but she won't be feeling well this night, and I just want to tell you the only rule to follow in this function room: never ask why. Director Tian put his hands behind his back and said to the six newcomers with a blank face.
I've forgotten how I spent that night. I lay in bed and never fell asleep, but I also didn't see and hear the last group of people coming. But actually, I knew it when the last group entered the room, because I had a growing feeling (and perhaps the same feeling I had when the first two groups saw the seven of us walk into the room) that none of us would ever make it out of this room alive.
