Thinking that Wang Shujin's death would deprive Nie Shubin's case of the most important clue, Zheng Chengyue, who had worked hard to bring Wang Shujin to justice, began to run around to save his life. He wrote letters to his classmates and friends in the political and legal system, stating the loopholes in the case and asking them for help.

On December 12, 2014, the Supreme People's Court initiated an off-site review of Nie Shubin's case, and the results of the review were postponed four times, and finally a retrial of Nie Shubin's case was initiated on June 6, 2016. This rape and murder case that occurred in the cornfield of Kongzhai in Shijiazhuang 22 years ago has once again aroused great public concern.
