Chapter 669: A Life of Chasing Dreams

Dream Chasing Life Zhang Baotong 2018.1.1

There is a phenomenon that may make people feel strange: they are doing a loss-making business, but they still have to enjoy it. For example, I am writing for the Internet, knowing that it will not make much money at all, and that it will be harmful to my body and eyes, but I regard it as the most important job of the day. Otherwise, friends and relatives call me and say, don't be so old-fashioned, and ruin your eyes and body. My wife also often said, I only see you writing every day, but I don't see what you write about and how much money you make. No way, the work I signed up for belongs to the short works of life essays. There are very few people who like to read this kind of work, so the amount of reading is not very large. Many of my friends have seen my works and said that I write well, but I don't make much money, so they persuade me to write some content that young people like to read, such as Xianxia, time-traveling, or mystical works. However, I have never read this kind of work myself, so how can I write such a work? Therefore, I do it as what I like, and it doesn't matter if I make money or not, because I have a salary and don't depend on writing for a living.

In fact, if you look up on the Internet, you can find that there are thousands of people who write articles, but there are not many people who actually sign contracts, and those who can make a lot of money are even fewer, it can be said that there are very few. If it is just to make money, then there are only a few dozen authors left who write works, and in fact, there are at least hundreds of thousands to millions of people who have been writing for various media and platforms. Don't they know that they may not make a lot of money in their lifetime, and they may not even sign a contract. In that case, why do they keep writing?

Everyone has an ideal and a dream. For this kind of ideal and dream, it takes a long time or even a lifetime of hard work and struggle. Becoming a writer is a life purpose that people admire and revere in people's minds, and once you become a famous writer, you will go down in history. That's why so many people flock to it. However, publishing work is a very difficult thing, unlike migrant workers, where you have to pay me dozens of yuan if I carry a bag of cement for you, and you have to pay me a day's wages if I work as a nanny for a day. Writing is different, sometimes, you just write for the rest of your life in vain, and you won't get any income from your labor. I remember when I was teaching in middle school, there was a teacher in the school who devoted his life to writing a 1 million word novel, and went to several publishing houses, but no one wanted it, and finally had to spend 50,000 yuan to publish the book at his own expense. After the book was published, I couldn't sell it, so I gave it to someone and gave me a copy. However, I turned a few pages and gave them to someone else. There is also a friend who works as a reporter at the Railway Newspaper and combines his essays and essays into a collection, which is also published at his own expense. Then, let us, the correspondents of each station, buy twenty copies each with public funds. Although he did not lose money, he made the leaders and correspondents of the entire road bureau station very disgusted with him.

Almost all people who regard writing as an ideal want to be able to make a name for themselves or support their families through writing. I'm one of them. But my original dream was to become a secondary school teacher, but after becoming a secondary school teacher, I felt that there were many unsatisfactory things about middle school teachers, and it was better to be as beautiful and free as being a writer, and I could gain fame and fortune. So, I started thinking about becoming a writer. Although I published a lot of short stories in provincial and municipal newspapers and magazines at that time, among which "Picturesque Scenery" and "Poetic Emotions" were published as the first words in national journals such as "Reader", I was only a little-known author. So I think if you want to be a writer, you have to have big works. So I started writing long stories. However, after writing two or three long articles, the publisher asked me to publish them at my own expense. I think I worked so hard for many years to write these works, and I had to publish them at my own expense, and not only did I not make any money, but I also had to contribute tens of thousands of yuan myself, so what did I do? It wasn't until two years ago that I came across the starting point Chinese website and tried to post some works on it, but soon the editor signed a contract with me, and I began to insist on posting works in online columns.

At this point, I had taken a back seat and had more time. My friend asked me to coach his stadium several times and teach students to play table tennis for three hours a day for 2,400 yuan, but my wife asked me to run cram schools for primary and secondary school students, because I graduated from an English bachelor's degree and taught English to high school, junior high school, elementary school and early childhood English, and I could also teach composition to primary and secondary school students. At that time, I really wanted to run a cram school and earn 100 yuan for students to make up for one hour of class. You can easily earn four or five thousand yuan a month. However, after much consideration, I decided to give up my classes and keep writing. Even though I didn't make much money writing, it was my dream. Although I have almost given up on the dream over the years, it has not been completely extinguished, and if I don't lift it up again, it may be extinguished forever. Everyone has a dream in their heart, and that is the torch that illuminates the hope of life. People need money to live, but if they blindly want to earn money and lose their dreams, then the meaning and value of life will be much less. My talent and works may not make me a famous writer, but I still want to pursue my dreams, and the life of chasing dreams will make me keep pursuing and improving, and I will not be depressed and inferior.

When you think about it, there are a lot of people who are happy to do something like that. Zhu Mincai, a former diplomat at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and his wife Sun Lina, who teaches English in primary schools in Beijing, have been teaching at the Central Village Primary School in Longping Town, Zunyi County, Guizhou Province for nine years. There is also a middle-aged man who loves travel and photography, in order to be able to travel and photograph wherever he wants to go as an adult, he actually quit his well-paid job and lived a hard life by traveling and writing travelogues. and our northwest ball king Liu Haifeng in Xi'an, in order to play table tennis, sold his family's original hotel, divorced his wife, and spent nearly 100,000 yuan to train in Henan for a year. There are also some of us who have a master's degree and a doctorate, but they go to primary and secondary schools to become teachers. And many of us spend a lot of money and time reading those literary works. These seem to be the kind of practices that not only do not make money, but also cost a lot of money. However, there are not a few people who love to do this kind of thing. For example, the Hangzhou girl did not stay at home well, but she was going to go hiking in the uninhabited area of Metuo, Tibet, so that the leeches everywhere were scared away. The Shanghai man named Yu Chunshun gave up his job at home to do nothing, but he had to cross China on foot, leaving his life in Lop Nur. There are also people who would rather stay in Hengdian and starve than return to their hometowns to eat and drink. Because they want to live a life of chasing dreams. Back then, Picasso was hungry and cold, impoverished, and relied on his brother and daughter-in-law to support him, but he still persevered and was ambitious. Because that's what he's been doing all his life.

In this world, there are many things that tempt us, but nothing can surpass our dreams. It may not bring us money and benefits, but it is a light in our hearts, illuminating our hearts, guiding us to live and grow poetically and happily, and making us feel worthwhile, confident and meaningful.
