Chapter Seventy-Six: Dementors
The Hogwarts Express is heading steadily north.
The scenery outside the window was getting more and more interesting, the sky was getting darker, and the clouds above them were getting thicker and thicker.
Outside the door of their cell, there was a constant movement of people going back and forth, but it had no effect on the inside of the cell.
Astoria is still telling about what she saw in eastern France:
"The weather there was much better than in England, the sun was warm, but I suspect I'm a bit tanned. ”
"And the French food is delicious, and although they don't like fish, their oysters, foie gras and mussels are so good that I don't get used to them for a while when I return home. ”
"I bought this dress when I was passing through Paris......"
Jon listened with a smile as he interjected.
At one o'clock, the food truck came to their cubicle door.
Jon bought a row of cauldrons, and Astoria took only dried fruits and vegetables and pumpkin juice.
"I have to lose some weight!" she said with a worried face, "I gained a few pounds in the summer vacation......"
"I think you're thinking a little too much!" Jon said, shoving a large pot of scones into her hand, "Eat well, or beware of stunted growth......"
In the afternoon, it began to rain, and the outline of the hill outside the window became blurred.
"I hate rainy days like this!" Astoria said with a sleepy expression.
"Nobody likes this kind of weather. Jon agreed.
Touched the wand in his cloak...... If the original plot hadn't changed, the Dementors would have appeared soon.
Astoria took out a three-sided mirror from her suitcase and loosened her newly tied ponytail in front of the mirror.
With her blonde hair hanging down, she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes, muttering:
"Jon, I'm so sleepy......"
Jon didn't respond, for he noticed that the train was getting slower and slower. The sound of the wheels was quieter, and the wind and rain outside the window were louder.
The train shook and stopped...... The sound of ping-pong was heard in the distance, indicating that luggage had fallen from the luggage rack.
Then, all of a sudden, all the lights went out, and they were thrown into complete darkness.
"What's going on?" Astoria stood up in a panic.
"Don't panic!" Jon said as a bright light flickered from his hand and shone on Astoria's panicked face, "Are you alright?"
"It's fine. Astoria nodded, then glanced at the light source in Jon's hand with some curiosity, "What kind of magic is this......? Shouldn't the Glowing Charm be a lesson that we only learn in third-year Charms?"
"Nope. Jon shook his head, "It's just a flashlight. ”
Although a strong flashlight may not be useful when encountering werewolves, it is still possible to illuminate this dark train.
Jon motioned for Astoria to move, then removed the flashlight, opened the door to the cubicle, and surveyed the hallway.
In the various cubicles on the edge of the hallway, someone came out to look.
Then, there was a squeaky, short, shrill sound outside the window.
Jon closed the door to the cubicle and moved the flashlight to the window, Astoria wiped a clean spot from the handkerchief on the window pane, and looked out, "Something was moving outside, it seemed to be drifting towards the train." ”
Jon hurriedly ran over and looked at the blurred dark shadows in the window.
"Don't be nervous!" he pressed Astoria on the shoulder and said calmly, "It's okay." ”
Astoria nodded a little sneeringly, and she crept closer to Jon...... Because she felt a little cold.
......
He held a flashlight in his left hand and drew his wand in his right hand.
Jon could almost feel Astoria shivering around him, and he himself didn't feel anything out of the ordinary.
The door to the cubicle was suddenly opened...... Then a cloaked, ceiling-high monster slowly floated in.
"Jon, I'm so cold......" Astoria hugged him tightly from behind, her body shaking violently.
The monster's face was completely hidden under the turban, and a hand protruded from the cloak, and this hand gave a terrible gray color, very thin and even crusted, like the arm of a dead man, soaked in water for half a month, and rotting.
"Dementors!"
Jon had been prepared, but at this moment, a chill swept through his body.
His mind began to recall the Defence Against the Dark Arts exam a few months ago, when two Albus Dumbledores appeared in front of him.
"Brain occlusion!" he whispered, in the smallest voice he could hear.
The images in his mind disappeared in an instant, and his consciousness returned to the car.
In the space of a second or two, the Dementor had floated to a position of only a few yards from him.
Astoria behind her was already unconscious, and could only feel the sound of her weak breathing.
A flashlight shone on the face beneath the Dementor's cloak: there were no features on it, and there was a terrible, bottomless hole where it should have been......
The hideous face seemed to glance at Jon, then quickly removed its face as if in disgust, and then, the bottomless hole, turned to Astoria behind Jon.
It seemed to start sucking on something, and a trace of white breath began to go to its mouth......
"Expecto Patronum!" Jon shouted without hesitation.
Strands of silver sprang out from the end of the wand, coalescing into a cloud of gas...... Then, a cloudy silvery aura hovered in front of Jon and Astoria.
Jon didn't dare summon his true Patronus, as he couldn't control the panda at all...... In case of another runaway spell, it is estimated that the train will be blown up, and the group will have to walk to Hogwarts.
The silvery aura stood between the two of them and the Dementors.
To Jon's surprise, however, the Dementors didn't leave the chamber because of this.
It was still advancing, albeit slowly, its face fixed on the unconscious Astoria.
Although there is some fear of this "pseudo-patronus", the girl seems to be more delicious......
The cloudy silver aura began to weaken little by little.
The horror of the Dementors was even beyond Jon's expectations......
He took a deep breath and began to recall his truly "happy" memories -
"Death is like the wind, always with me ......"
"Expecto Patronum!" a majestic voice came from outside the compartment.
A true Patronus flew into the chamber, standing between the two and the Dementors......
The Dementor quickly retreated, then drifted farther and farther away.
Dementors all over the train!
