Chapter 11: Arriving at Hogwarts
"Oh...... Oh...... Oh......"
With the scream of the alarm clock, Jon wakes up from his sleep.
It's 7:10 p.m. GMT and it's almost completely dark, Jon quickly pulls out the black Hogwarts robe from his suitcase and passes it to his body.
"The train will arrive at Hogwarts in five minutes, please leave your luggage on the train and we will take you to the school. A voice echoed through the train.
This is good news, I don't need to carry such a heavy salute to school.
The train slowed down and finally stopped.
Jon squeezed to the exit, and the passengers shoved and shoved as they rushed to the door and onto a small, dark platform.
"First-year freshmen! First-year freshmen are coming here!" A loud voice came from ahead.
Jon saw a large man in the crowd. His face was almost entirely obscured by his long, unkempt hair and tangled bushy beard, but his black beetle-like eyes could still be seen, glistening under his hair.
"I'm Hagrid, Rubeus Hagrid, the key keeper of Hogwarts and the caretaker of the hunting grounds!" The bearded man smiled in the sea of people, "Come on, follow me, are there any freshmen in the first year?"
"Watch your feet, all right! First-year students come with me!"
Although most of the first-year students followed Hagrid, they kept a certain distance from him because of his huge body and fierce face.
Jon followed Hagrid without hesitation, knowing full well that Hagrid, despite his fierce appearance, was in fact a good man through and through.
Next to Jon was a very strange girl, with messy, waist-length white hair, very pale eyebrows, and bulging eyes.
"It's been an amazing journey, isn't it?" she said, with a look of intoxication.
"yes!" Jon nodded, though he didn't know what the wonderful point was.
They followed Hagrid, stumbling and stumbling, seemingly descending a steep and narrow path.
"Turn this corner, and you'll soon see Hogwarts for the first time. Hagrid shouted back.
At the end of the narrow path, a black lake suddenly unfolded, which almost everyone couldn't help but exclaim, even Jon, who was mentally prepared.
"There, it's Hogwarts!" Hagrid shouted, pointing to the other side of the lake.
On the high hillside on the other side of the lake rises a majestic castle with spires and windows twinkling under the stars.
"No more than four people per boat!" Hagrid exclaimed, pointing to a group of small boats moored to the shore.
Jon boarded one of the boats, as did the weird girl with white hair, and two strange little boys.
"Are you all on board?" Hagrid shouted, and he was in a boat by himself. "That's good to move forward!" A group of small boats immediately rowed across the mirror-like lake.
This was probably a rite of passage for the new Hogwarts students, and Jon thought to himself as he rowed the oars.
The four founders, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin, arrived at Hogwarts in a small boat, so every new Hogwarts student has to walk this journey all over again.
The boat carried them through the ivy veil that covered the cliffs to the secluded open entrance.
They followed a pitch-black tunnel that seemed to lead to the castle underneath, and finally reached a place that resembled an underground pier, and then climbed up to the ground of gravel and small pebbles.
Illuminated by the light of the Hagrid lantern, everyone climbed a flight of stone steps and gathered in front of a large oak door.
Hagrid held up a worn-out pink umbrella and knocked three times on the castle gate.
......
The door was quickly opened.
"Welcome to Hogwarts!" Hagrid smiled and winked at the small wizards behind him, and then he continued to open the way ahead.
In front of them was a stone wall surrounded by blazing torches, the ceiling so high that it was barely visible, and the façade was a sumptuous marble staircase leading to the upper floor.
"Jon!" a small hand tugged at the robe behind Jon.
"What's the matter?" Jon turned around and said calmly, "Miss Greengrass!"
Under the light of the torch, Astoria Greengrass's face was paler than during the day.
Hearing the blunt salutation, her hands seemed to tremble slightly.
Astoria whispered, "Daphne...... She's really ...... She didn't mean to call you a mudblood, she was just ......"
"Just talking about slipping up?" Jon's voice didn't have the slightest sympathy, "Maybe that's what you call us every day at home, and today you just got angry and accidentally slipped your mouth in front of people?"
"No...... No......"
Astoria still wanted to discern something.
Hagrid interrupted their conversation with a shout from ahead:
"Professor Snape, why are you here?"
A middle-aged man with greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin came from a small room on the slope.
Jon suddenly felt Professor Severus-Snape's gaze, stared at him, and quickly lowered his head.
He had just come through a door close to his position, and might have even heard himself talking to Astoria.
Severus Snape stopped less than a yard away from Jon and said slowly, "I heard from Barrow that an extremely precious beating willow seems to have been injured by something, and is about to go over and take a look!"
"Okay!" Hagrid nodded, "I'm sending my first-year students to the sorting ceremony!"
With that, Hagrid moved on, and Jon hurriedly followed with his head down.
Whether it was a delusion or not, he felt Snape's gaze on the back of his head until he was out of his sight.
Hagrid led them to a small, empty house. The little wizards swarmed in, huddled together side by side, nervously gazing at everything around them.
Professor Minerva McGonagall, dressed in emerald green robes, was waiting for them here.
"First-year freshman, Professor McGonagall!" Hagrid said.
"Thank you, Hagrid. Leave it to me now. ”
