Chapter 14: Helga Hufflepuff
As the singing faded away......
"Music!" Albus Dumbledore stood up and concluded the feast, "More glamorous than anything we've done here! ”
"First-year, follow me!" Hufflepuff prefect Gabriel Truman held his hand aloft and motioned for first-year Hufflepuff freshmen to approach him.
From Gryffindor to Slytherin, house after house, students streamed out......
Look at the crowd, and the length of the table. Jon found that Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin all had similar students, but Hufflepuff had almost twice as many students.
They followed Gabriel, through the noisy crowd, out of the dining room, and up the marble staircase.
"Congratulations! and a warm welcome to Hufflepuff House. As he walked, Gabriel introduced to the Hufflepuff freshmen, "Our emblem is the badger, an animal that is often underestimated, because it is calm until it is attacked, but when provoked, it can fight against animals much larger than itself, including wolves." ”
"The Hufflepuff common room is located on the basement level, in the same hallway as the kitchen. Gabriel led the way, passing through a corridor, ignoring the point of the portrait as they passed.
Jon felt like they were in the basement of Hogwarts Castle.
"In front of you is your Potions classroom, and from there to the right, through a stone wall, is the Slytherin common room...... I swear I've never snuck into a Slytherin common room!" Gabriel blinked.
"Maybe you need to get out of the way, Hufflepuff first-yearers!" a cold voice came from behind them.
"Good evening, Miss Farley!" Gabriel motioned for the Hufflepuff freshmen to step aside, and he was left alone at the back of the line, "and...... Slytherin freshmen!"
Slytherin's prefect, Gemma Farley, is taking the Slytherin first-year students to meet them on a narrow path.
"Let's get aside!" suggested Gabriel.
"I agree!" Farley nodded.
Two teams, one on the left and one on the right...... The Slytherin team turned to the right, while the Hufflepuff team continued on.
Astoria Greengrass was right behind Farley, and she almost brushed off with Jon, though neither of them looked up.
"Don't be afraid of Slytherin, badgers will never be afraid of snakes!" Gabriel smiled, "What did I just say!"
"Oh yes, there's the kitchen further on!" Gabriel led them through a corridor again: "The entrance to the lounge is hidden in a pile of vats in the right corner of the kitchen hallway...... This is it!"
"Just like me, tap the bottom lid of the two large barrels in the middle of the second row in a 'Helga-Hufflepuff' rhythm and the lid will automatically rotate open...... We're the only Hogwarts house with a magic repellent for infiltrators, and if you hit the wrong lid or the wrong rhythm, hehe, the trespassers will be doused with vinegar. ”
As he spoke, Gabriel slipped into one of the vats.
Jon and the rest of the Hufflepuff freshmen looked at each other, and then they all got inside.
They made their way down the passageway, through an underground tunnel as round as an oak barrel, and then to a round, low-ceilinged room with a faint earthy scent, and a number of upholstered sofas and chairs.
They arrived at the Hufflepuff common room.
"If it's daytime, it's sunny and you can even see the swaying grass and dandelions through the round windows. Gabriel opened a round arch in the room: "Now, I'll take you to your dormitory!"
The rest of the Hufflepuff first-year students followed Gabriel's pace.
Jon stopped, however, by the burning fireplace...... There is a portrait of a witch on the fireplace.
There is a line of small print under the portrait:
"Helga Hufflepuff (964-1032) is widely regarded as one of the greatest witches in the history of English magic
She was born in the Valles of Wales in 964 AD
In 993, he participated in the creation of Hogwarts and advocated that all children with wizarding potential should attend Hogwarts
He served as the second Headmaster of Hogwarts from 998 to 1032.
Hufflepuff's greatest achievement was the discovery of more than 200 specific uses of herbs
In addition, she has made outstanding contributions to the protection of food charms and house-elves."
The portrait of Helga Hufflepuff is only twenty or thirty years old, beautiful, gentle and kind, standing gracefully in front of the newly built Hogwarts Castle, looking into the distance.
Jon solemnly bent down and bowed deeply to the portrait of the founder of Hufflepuff House and Hogwarts.
With so many new students at Hogwarts every year, Gryffindor picks out brave and fearless students, Slytherin picks out students of good blood and ambition, and Ravenclaw takes out wise and shrewd students......
And what about Hufflepuff, did she just pick up honest and hardworking students?
No, she didn't...... She enrolled all the remaining students who weren't selected by other houses into her house, whether they met Hufflepuff's admissions criteria or not!
Imagine a young wizard who receives a letter from Hogwarts and happily rows a boat here...... The Sorting Hat then told him that he was neither brave nor fearless, nor bloodly ambitious, nor wise, nor upright and industrious, that he had not been chosen by any house, and that the only way that awaited him was to be re-rowed home with the Oblivion Charm.
What a cruel thing that would be!
Helga Hufflepuff stopped him and told him that he could come to her house, even if he couldn't find anything good in him...... But as long as he was a wizard, even the most lame and stupid, as long as he was a wizard, he was qualified to be educated at Hogwarts.
Jon remembered the Hufflepuff students in the cafeteria, who were almost twice as many as the other houses...... If it weren't for Helga, I'm afraid half of them would have been brutally eliminated on the first day of school......
After bowing, Jon looked up...... Then he found Helga Hufflepuff in the portrait and winked at him.
He smiled at the portrait as well, and walked to the round arch that Gabriel had opened.
