Chapter 80: The Topic of Depth
Since this trip to Europe is called the "Faith Fortnight", it is impossible not to do without the topic of faith and faith in life. So, in between trips. Jiang Qingshan organized a unique dialogue. He asked the tour group members to talk about their understanding and perception of their beliefs and beliefs in life, and then asked several masters from the headquarters to give comments and answers. This is a reciprocal face-to-face conversation between the practitioner and the layman, rather than a teacher's indoctrination of the student. Of course, those who disagree will naturally mind speaking and can also raise objections or even opposing opinions. Only then can we be fair, and only then can we make the case clearer and more thorough.
Don't look at Master Jiang as a tall and thin stubborn old man, his brain is very good. He is not only the first postdoctoral fellow in religious studies at the European Buddhist Studies Headquarters, but also a Ph.D. graduate from Jinling Buddhist College. It's just that he didn't reveal his identity when he studied for a doctorate in Jinling. Not only did he study well in college, but he also published seven or eight highly specialized Buddhist monographs, as well as many large-scale lecture books, and was a master at the headquarters who showed Europeans the profundity of Buddhism and the key to learning. He has a very high status and influence in the headquarters, and he is also a scholar with profound knowledge of beauty.
He admired Dr. Zhang, who was in charge of the publication, but he didn't show much of his heart. He also appreciates Shi Jiaxuan and Luo Tianxing and vigorously supports them. Moreover, each issue of the "Yearbook of Human Buddhism" was finalized by him with the help of Deputy Editor-in-Chief Zhang before it could be printed. Dr. Zhang is also very respectful and admired for him. The age difference between them is seven or eight years, but they are also the same age, and their educational qualifications are similar. Master Jiang became a monk after he got married, and his lover was also passively divorced, and he was also a doctoral supervisor in a Buddhist college. They also have a son, whose son is now studying for a doctorate, also studying religious studies, and is still in Yanjing, in the same city as him. When Dr. Zhang learned about this, he visited his son many times, and the two had a good conversation. When Deputy Editor-in-Chief Zhang saw Master Jiang, he quietly told him, and the master was very happy and asked him to transfer some money. The son also knew the reason for his parents' divorce, but he was also a shrewd child who ignored it. He also accepted the money given by his father, but he never bothered him. Their father and son have a clear heart, and they just know it.
Dr. Zhao was also invited by him this time, and it was also the need to edit the publication. Master Jiang provided Deputy Editor-in-Chief Zhang with an opportunity to learn about the headquarters of puppet Buddhism, in order to let him have a basic understanding of the headquarters, and also for the purpose of allowing him to tell the masters who have been living abroad about some of the situation in the domestic Buddhist circles.
Finally, it was time to have a conversation with the tour group, and Dr. Zhang became the moderator, building bridges and sparking conversations between the headquarters and the tour members. The first topic is, how did you know about Buddhism before, and how has it changed since participating in the competition and participating in this "Double Circle of Faith"?
The first to answer the question was a network engineer who said, "I have read some Buddhist scriptures before, but most of them are not knowledgeable, and I have always been interested in Buddhist stories." Through participating in national competitions, I have read a lot of books and dictionaries that I have never paid attention to, and I have a deeper understanding of the breadth and profundity of Buddhism, and I have also learned a lot of knowledge that I did not know before, which has improved my cognitive ability in a certain sense, and my understanding and knowledge of some things have also made great progress compared with before, and I no longer dwell on some trivial problems and turned to the essence of the problems. The second point is that through a week's travel, visit and study on the European continent, I have improved to a certain extent, and I have more confidence, patience and wisdom for the future transcendence to develop my own career, interpret the world, and participate in the practice of social life. I began my journey to Buddhism when I was amazed that the great physicist Albert Einstein believed in Buddhist thought. But now it seems that it was just a surprise. In the face of so many of your masters, it is simply an incomparable gap. To this end, I will follow all the monks and great monks to continue to study and master the weapon of understanding the world more deeply, serve more people in the world, make unremitting efforts for our great nation with a 5,000-year-old civilization, bravely dedicate myself, and live a clear self, a bright and clear self, a brilliant self, and an excellent and outstanding personality.
The engineer's answer won warm applause and the recognition and praise of several masters in the headquarters. There is also a new understanding of the significance of these two activities.
The second question is, in your mind, what kind of standard can become a belief or a belief that lasts for a long time, and what other questions do you need the teachers to answer?
This time, there were two answers, almost cross-answered, and occasionally debated. Ms. Fang Hanyu, who is about to reach retirement age, replied, "I have read a QQ article about faith, and it seems that the author is also working in your domestic branch now." I remember what he said in that article, faith is the guide to life, the opening light of a new realm of life, and the mirror of happiness. People don't feel much about this when they are young, but when they reach middle age, they encounter more troubles and more entanglements in their hearts, and they begin to think about the topics they had when they were children. At this time, people have reached the point where they have to think about it, and they have to ask him to re-examine the world and life problems. When you are young, you have some faith at most, and faith is difficult. Of course, faith can also be inspiring, but it is still far from faith. The believer, the bottom line that he adheres to and adheres to, and the lofty purpose of being a human being, is also the starting point of climbing, not the ultimate destination. This is a high-level pursuit that requires piety and obedience, and at least it must be the highest truth, which must be defended with reverence and sworn to the death, in order to become the basic connotation of the name. The sense of sublime and sacred is rare nowadays, but this is the highest goal of human beings, and it is also the necessary and necessary place to believe in it. That's how I understand it.
A 20-year-old female college student went on to say, "Auntie spoke very well, and I agreed." However, for our generation, this matter is not so complicated, isn't it a higher pursuit, and believe it, prove it, and get it, continue it, not get it, and wait for it. As for the compulsion of age and experience, it is not necessarily. For example, if you fall out of love, some people have learned a lot of things that you don't usually think about, and this may also be a shortcut or an opportunity, so that you can start to realize and open up, and it is possible to embark on the road of seeking truth as soon as possible. I'm talking about chance, opportunity, which is very important, and it is not only age and insight that can force people to think and think again.
I also agree with this aunt's opinion on the understanding of the difference and gap between the two, whether in terms of magnitude or the essence of things, the two are very different and far away. However, all believers must be based on far-reaching, profound, broad and profound thoughts, and only such a belief can be worthy of this name. My question is how to let us young people embark on the road of climbing the peak of life as soon as possible, so as to reduce the waste of our good years because of the trivial things of life and the entanglements and hesitations in the process of life. I hope that the masters will give practical help.
Dr. Zhang first talked about some surrounding questions, and he said that this female student raised a very realistic and urgent question that needs to be answered. Very good. I'll give you a foreshadowing explanation first, and then you'll have your masters answer and explain.
First of all, fundamentally speaking, human Buddhism is not a rigid dogma that must be believed in as a religion with cumbersome rituals, precepts, and rigid forms, and preaching must be obeyed. It is a way, a way, a way of education. It's not one that you have to obey, and it's not that you have to study Buddhism, there's no such thing. It's a way, a way, believe it or not, that's your own business. This requires the establishment of a mechanism that is more in line with the broad masses of people, so that more people can agree and be convinced of the discourse system, education system and theoretical system, in order to receive better results, and then become a force that everyone is convinced of, to solve problems for sentient beings, to transform sentient beings, and to produce universal values and far-reaching significance. The practice that we see in the temple is not the same thing as the "human Buddhism" that our domestic branch does, which is the humanization of Buddhism, the secularization of Buddhism, not how and how you want to join the Buddhist community. This is important for everyone to understand. Those who specialize in monastic cultivation in the temple do not have certain rules, which is tantamount to fighting their own battles and doing their own thing. So everyone must be clear. What we promote is the promotion of Buddhism under the principle that practice and life and career are incompatible with reality, and do not interfere with the specific life and career of any person.
Secondly, the mission and goal of the domestic division is to serve the people and our country for a service and dedication cause, not to a profit-making organization or enterprise. This will need to be widely publicized when you return. Since it has no commercial purpose, it is to become a caring person for the people and an assistant to solve problems and solve problems, otherwise, there would be no need for this organization to exist, right? Let's just say that it will hold national competitions and outings, and it is said that it also cost 1.5 million yuan, if it is not for the purpose of purifying all sentient beings, why bother? Some people will also say that if you find a lot of publications, don't you also make money. This is true, if the circulation of those publications is really large, it is this one to make money. But at that time, I estimate that the headquarters and the domestic branch have a bigger idea, and the money earned by the publication will still return to the domestic people. This is one of them, and the idea of building a Buddhist martial arts school and a Buddhist academy is waiting for more money. Speaking of the domestic branch projects alone, there are several of them, which all require money.
Finally, people in the world are very strange, some people are born to go straight to the topic, to discuss the fundamental problems of life, and there are many people who encounter problems that cannot be solved, only to think about the ultimate problems of life, and there are more people who only live for a living, busy generation after generation, or just to live and rush and work, never have the time and opportunity to think about themselves, a lifetime is over. This is the difference and difference between people. So how can we take care of our own livelihood problems and solve the ultimate problems at the same time? This requires the wisdom of human self-control, reflection and coping ability to participate in it in order to solve it well.
This is probably one of the tenets of human Buddhism. The combination of real life problems and Buddhist education is a better way to solve this problem.
At this time, Master Jiang told the reporter that Dr. Zhang spoke very well. Next, I would like to invite the masters of the headquarters to discuss and share with you.
An elderly master at the headquarters said, "Today's dialogue is very good, I am very happy with your enthusiastic participation and active speeches, I have not been back for decades, and when I see you young people from the motherland, I am reminded of some things when I first arrived in Europe. For decades, the world is changing, and our motherland is gradually becoming stronger, which is a very good situation, and our Buddhist headquarters recently held a meeting to discuss moving part of the headquarters back to China, which means that we want to do a big job in the East, and we also want our own motherland, that is our fundamental, if you don't make some contributions, you are worthy of being Chinese, right? When I see you, it's like seeing my family, and listening to your conversation and seeing how confident you look makes me feel very cordial. There will be more attention and answers to your questions in the future.
What I want to say is that you are blessed to have been exposed to Buddhism at such a young age. As for us, we want to give the Chinese people a new Civic and excellent teachings from the level of ideology and from the height of the cosmology, so as to serve the people in China to the greatest extent and relieve them of their practical troubles in real life. The question that the girl said just now, I said, is also simple, dedication, meditate, persist for a few minutes every day, it is estimated that it will not be long before you yourself have new ideas, new ways or measures to think about problems. The ascension of the realm is not so complicated, after you go back, carefully read some simple methods in Buddhist publications, many problems that seem difficult to solve, and you will have a good solution in a few days. May you have a pleasant trip, simple, realistic, meditate, think, and be transformed again.
