Chapter XXVIII

In the next few days, the weather turned cold again.

Everyone is complaining that Evan, who has gone into hibernation mode, has to wait until Virginia slams the door to get out of bed every day, but the energetic Dora and Dorothy are extremely looking forward to a "white Christmas" this year.

Carlson was satisfied with the conditions in the lab and quickly got into the working mood. Evan deliberately spent a day discussing with Carlson the development plan for the lab, which ranged from improving the performance of circuits to developing new materials to optimizing the copying process. To speed things up, Evan asked Carlson to hire more research assistants, and Carlson agreed. Through his previous connections, Carlson quickly recruited people.

Once the lab was on track, Carl shifted his focus to the preparation of Magic7.

The first thing he had to do was to be a headhunter and recruit people. It's not a hard job, but it takes time. It takes a while just to gather information.

Carl also advertised jobs in newspapers, but with little success. It's not that no one submits resumes, but most of them don't qualify.

Such an inefficient way of recruiting people makes Evan, who looks at the paper resume and sees the vomit, very nostalgic for the Internet era.

Evan goes out every day, like an office worker. Linda saw it and tried to go out with him several times, but was blocked by Evan. Linda was curious, but in order not to make Evan angry, she restrained her temper and did not mess around. Just as Virginia needed help with math, Linda, who was already studying math at college on her own, took over Evan's job.

Virginia had given up on the SAT in December, and with her current math scores, she couldn't improve much on it. She is ready to put everything on the one in March next year, and if she doesn't do well in the exam, she will give up, because it means that it will only be a waste of time to continue.

It was humiliating enough to be "taught" by her younger siblings who were two grades lower than herself, and she hadn't been able to improve her grades, and Virginia felt that she was about to lose face to be this sister.

On the 22nd, the day of the winter solstice, Nina fulfilled her promise and took a group of children, large and small, to choose new clothes. Evan tried to slip away, but was shocked back by a look from Nina. As a last resort, Evan had no choice but to follow back to Auckland to the long-lost private clothing store, the Frisman House.

The clothes at the Freesman House are all tailor-made, and the Warrens are regular customers here. Since Earl was a deputy prosecutor here, his formal attire has been mostly made by the tailors here. It wasn't until Earl married Nina, had children, and took up positions elsewhere that this habit didn't change.

In a sense, Oakland is Earl Warren's "Land of Dragons".

In 1920, Earl Warren came to Oakland as a deputy prosecutor, a position he held for five years. During this time, he met Joseph Noland, who greatly admired him. Knowland) and developed his political style – opposing corruption and punishing crime.

Noland was a Republican bigwig at the time and the founder of the Oakland Tribune. With Noland's guidance, Earl Warren rose through the ranks from a district attorney to the chairman of the California Republican Party, then to the California Attorney General, and finally succeeded in defeating then-Governor Olson in the election three years earlier (1942) to be elected the thirtieth governor of California.

Back to the point, the Freesman House has the body data of the Warren family, so the clothes are already ready, and they only need Evan and others to choose one of their favorites, and then try it on the spot to see if there is anything that needs to be changed. After all, children grow up fast and are afraid that the existing data will be distorted.

After Evan finished picking out his clothes as fast as he could, he waited quietly in the rest area on the side. The lounge area is stocked with tea, snacks, fruits and a full selection of newspapers and magazines for your leisure.

Not to mention, the dim sum tastes pretty good.

While sipping black tea, Evan watched his relatives go back and forth between the fitting room and the hanger, and thought, "Isn't it just a choice of clothes, is it necessary to toss and entangle so much?"

"Virginia, forget it, girls, it's natural to love beauty. But Robert, what's the matter with you, do you need a boy to put a bow tie in front of the mirror a dozen times?

"No, if this continues, Robert will have to go astray...... I have to do something. ”

In order to "correct" Robert, Evan decided to give him a little advice.

"Robert, I think this color is good, very masculine ......"

Robert squinted at Evan for a moment, then turned around and nudged Evan lightly while saying in a hoarse voice, "Go away!"

Evan felt disappointed.

"Alas...... I don't have a common language with you, forget it, I'll drink my tea, and you try your clothes. ”

A few hours passed. By the time they set off for Sacramento, it was already two o'clock in the afternoon.

On the way home, Evan is besieged by his family. Nina said that he was not like a brother, that he was patronizing himself, and that he did not help his younger siblings with advice.

Virginia said that Evan ate all of the Friesman House's specialty treats by herself, leaving them with nothing.

Dora and Dorothy chimed in, but they didn't eat it, and they almost didn't cry.

Only Robert didn't say anything, much to Evan's relief.

But Robert said that he didn't open his mouth because he didn't want to speak, brother, don't get me wrong.

When he got home, everyone else felt a little tired, but Evan was in good spirits, not at all like he had been in a car that had traveled more than 160 miles back and forth.

Seeing that there was still time, after promising Nina to come back for dinner, Evan ran out again.

He went to the cram school where Cairol and Audrey were.

Evan arrived at the right time, the cram school had just ended, and Audrey and Cairol were talking and laughing out of the makeshift classroom.

Seeing Evan waving to them across the road, Audrey smiled.

Audrey pulled Kairol to Evan with her.

"Hi Audrey, Kairol!"

"Hi Evan!"

After greeting each other, Evan said, "Audrey, I have something to say to you." ”

Audrey was stunned when she heard this: "What, what is Evan going to say, it won't be ......"

Cairol cried out, "Oh! do you need me to avoid it?"

Evan hurriedly said, "Don't. Well...... It's about Christmas performances. ”

Evan seemed embarrassed and stumbled: "Well, I'm sorry, Audrey, I can't go to your show on Christmas Day, um, it's because of that, um...... That ......"

Evan couldn't say the reason for a long time, and Audrey thoughtfully interrupted: "It's okay, Evan, it's just a show, Christmas, you must be with your family, right?"

"Well, yes, I'm really sorry! Audrey!" Seeing that Audrey didn't mean to be angry, Evan seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, and finally spoke fluently in an instant.

Audrey didn't say anything, Kai Luo was very angry, looked at Evan with an angry face, and snorted: "Go back on your word, don't be trustworthy! I misread you, Evan!"

Evan smiled awkwardly and didn't retort.

"Alright, Kellore, didn't Evan come to apologize in advance!" Audrey, after calming Kelloel, said to Evan, "Is there anything else? ”

"It's okay, I'll get you in the car!"

Audrey nodded, not refusing.

The atmosphere when waiting for the train at the station was a little strange, Kelloll was counting Evan vigorously, but Audrey rarely spoke, obviously very lost in her heart but she didn't want to show it.

When the bus arrived, Audrey was the first to jump on board. Kairol was about to follow, but was grabbed by Evan's arm.

"What! let go. ”

"This is my home phone, I'll call when I get home!" said Evan, stuffing a note he had prepared in advance into Kairol's school bag, and at the same time admonished, "Help me take care of Audrey!"

After saying that, Evan couldn't help but push Cairol into the car.
