Chapter Twenty-Seven: Knocking
In Carl's office, Evan dialed the phone dial and made two phone calls.
I called the official residence, I had to pick up Carlson at night, and I couldn't go home for dinner, so I had to inform Nina, which was my duty as a son.
A call to a gift shop in San Francisco. The shop can customize merchandise, and the music box for the governor and his wife came from here.
The store was technically good, and Evan placed another order and became a repeat customer.
After verbally explaining his request and agreeing on the delivery time, Evan hung up the phone.
Syllable!
Things went so smoothly that Evan snapped his fingers with joy.
Well, this snapping finger is so crisp and skillful, it's almost becoming a habitual action.
Walking out of the office, Evan greeted Carl, who was chatting happily with Jane, "Hey, Carl, let's go!"
"Jane, be careful, Carl loves your bowling!"
Hearing Evan's words, Jane subconsciously clasped her hands to her chest and glanced at Carl vigilantly.
Karl's face darkened, and he hastily ended his conversation with Jane, then gritted his teeth and followed Evan.
"Bang!"
Carl slammed the door shut, and there was a loud bang. Evan was already sitting in the passenger seat, and Carl looked at him expressionlessly, twisting the car keys while complaining, "Hey, Evan, did you mean it?"
"It's going to be bad if you stir up good things. ”
Evan said, "I'm just saving an ignorant woman, pulling someone out of the river of desire." ”
Karl said angrily, "Then should I say thank you?"
Evan waved his hand: "No, this is what I should do." ”
Speechless, Carl decided not to speak and drove silently.
A few minutes later, Model 91 pulled over to the side of the road.
It's the intersection of Eleventh Avenue and I Street (which, by the way, is a 226-foot-tall (less than 70-meter) tower in Sacramento's street naming convention, where numbers run north-south and letters run east-west.
Evan got out of the car first, and Carl followed without saying a word.
Evan stood in front of the building, glanced at Carl beside him, and said quietly: "I forgot to answer just now, Carl, I did it on purpose." ”
"The company prohibits internal employees from falling in love with each other, especially between superiors and subordinates. ”
"I want to add this rule to the company's articles of association. ”
"Do you have an opinion?
Karl stood for a long time, did not ask why, but lowered his head slightly, and said respectfully: "Your will is my opinion." ”
"Good!" Evan smiled with satisfaction, and walked lightly into the building.
After seeing Evan enter the building, Carl reflexively returned to the car.
He had to pick up Carlson's party.
The building, known as the Elks Tower, is the tallest building in Sacramento. It was founded and owned by an organization called the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE). Just by hearing the name, many people will mistake it for an animal protection organization, but in fact it is a well-known fraternity organization in the United States, with millions of members in the United States. The Elk Tower is a meeting place for Elk Brotherhood members, but it is also open to the public and offers a variety of services such as guest rooms, restaurants, swimming pools, bathrooms, meeting rooms, billiards rooms, and more.
The restaurant Carl booked was on the fourteenth floor.
Taking the old-fashioned elevator, Evan is guided by a waiter to the restaurant.
Less than half an hour later, Carlson and his party arrived. Evan took out the posture of the host and received them warmly.
The dinner was very richly prepared, and the atmosphere at the table was very harmonious, and the guests and hosts enjoyed it. It's just that because Evan is not yet an adult, although he is drinking, everyone is just paying for it.
At about eight o'clock, the feast dispersed. Evan asked Carl to drive Carlson and the three back, but he didn't get into the car himself and planned to walk home.
Although he didn't drink much, Evan still didn't want to squeeze into a small space with them to breathe the air that smelled of alcohol.
Moreover, the Elk Tower is indeed very close to the governor's mansion, Evan only needs to turn a corner, walk less than 800 meters, and only a few minutes before and after.
It's just right to eliminate food.
Then, after walking less than a hundred meters, Evan regretted it.
It's still quite cold in Sacramento at night.
Riding the evening breeze, Evan returned to the residence. Entering the house, the warm breath made Evan cry out comfortably.
Opening the door for Evan was Nina, who was wearing pajamas and her hair was wrapped in a towel, as if she had just finished taking a shower.
The first floor was quiet, and Evan didn't hear his younger siblings playing, thinking that they were probably all driven back to their rooms.
This was the case in the era of poor entertainment, where children went to bed early and adults went to bed early. Unlike later, all of them were night owls and didn't sleep until two o'clock in the morning.
Nina poured Evan a cup of hot water and casually asked, "What happened?
Evan's invention sold for half a million dollars and invested in Carlson, and Nina knew about it. It was Evan himself who told her. For this, she was both very proud and distressed. Pride is of course, her own children can be ordinary people, and Nina, as a mother, is naturally proud. As for the distress, it is because Nina always felt that it was too early for Evan to start a company at this age. Nina thought about asking Evan to sell the company and focus less on Alphabet and more on her studies. But was stopped by her husband Earl.
"Evan isn't a kid anymore!"
This is what Earl said when he persuaded Nina.
Nina thought about it for a long time and finally decided to listen to her husband.
Of course, although Nina promised to let Evan do what he liked, some of the demands were not relaxed.
For example, before adulthood, you are not allowed to drink alcohol, you are not allowed to stay at night, you are not allowed to smoke, and you are not allowed to smoke leaves.
This is what Nina always asks of her children.
"Thanks, Nina!!" Evan took the glass and replied, "They drank the wine, but I didn't." Don't you believe you?"
Saying that, Evan was going to put his face in front of Nina.
Nina pushed Evan away with a look of disgust, "Okay, believe you, don't be weird, hurry up and take a shower." ”
"Yes, sir!" said Evan put down his glass of water, saluted Nina in a funny way, and walked up the stairs in three steps.
Nina whispered from behind, "Be careful!"
Evan walked briskly up to the second floor, startled by Linda, who was waiting at the door of Virginia's room early.
"Evan, you're back, you're not here all day, where are you doing?"
"Yo, Linda, you're still there!" Evan greeted first, then said vaguely, "Didn't do anything!"
"It's not early, you go to bed quickly, I'm going upstairs." ”
After saying that, without waiting for Linda to reply, Evan fled and went up to the third floor.
Linda frowned in frustration, stomped her foot and turned back to the house, looking at Virginia, who was trying to "hug her feet" in front of her desk, she asked, "Virginia, can you tell me about Audrey again?"
Virginia was stunned when she heard this, then sighed, turned her head to look at Linda, and said, "Linda, I told you everything I knew. ”
"Linda, promise me, you don't break the agreement between us to trouble Audrey, believe me, if you do this, not only will you not get the love you want, but you will also lose the friendship between us. ”
Linda looked at the serious Virginia, nodded, and said, "I promise I won't!"
"I never thought so, God can testify!"
