Lecture 13: Numerology and Psychology

Lecture 13: Numerology and Psychology

Psychology became a discipline that originated in the third century B.C., and Westerners opened up Western psychology on the basis of the theories of Socrates and Plato, which naturally belongs to the category of philosophy. After Aristotle's "On the Soul" opened the chapter of psychology, after more than a thousand years of slow years, it really developed into a systematic science, but in a short time, the Germans in the nineteenth century completed the whole process of this science, completely separated psychology from Western philosophy, and formed a multidisciplinary and complete science, from then on psychology began to march to the world, into the hall of professors of the World Culture Institute, became a methodology for people to learn and apply, and opened a knowledge project for the benefit of all mankind.

The research direction of psychology is to be people-oriented, from the spiritual level, the depths of the soul to explore human psychological activities, to explore the psychological tendency and spiritual induction of human nature. Due to the many classifications of psychology, I will not go into detail here, in short, psychology is the study for the purpose of studying, describing, explaining, predicting and influencing human behavior.

Numerology was born in the Book of Changes, but numerology did not follow the Confucian culture of Confucius, but a science derived from Huang Lao Taoism, numerology formed a theoretical concept in the middle and late Han Dynasty, mainly to study the nature and regularity of human life processes. Numerology first appeared in the Yellow Emperor's Neijing, a methodology created by TCM practitioners that was originally intended to be used to predict human diseases, and was later abandoned by TCM physicians because it was too abstract.

Numerologists began to focus on the prediction method of predicting human health based on the year, month, day and time stem branch of the Chinese medicine practitioners, and introduced this method into the study of human fate prediction, forming an academic concept around the fifth century AD, and developing to the Ming and Qing dynasties to basically form a science with the theory of human life as the keynote to describe, explain, predict and influence the human mind.

As far as the comparison between psychology and numerology is concerned, it is still a comparison between the worldview and methodology of Western philosophical thinking methods and ancient Chinese rational thinking methods. That is, the fundamental problem of spiritual and material existence. As I have said in the previous chapters, there was a split in ancient Chinese science in the Han Dynasty, with the innate gossip represented by Confucianism developing on the upper structure and forming the metaphysics of the ruling class, while the Taoists, who were based on the acquired gossip, were forced to live among the people, retreat into the mountains and forests, and develop towards the study, description, interpretation, prediction and influence of human behavior, so numerology constituted a theoretical framework similar to Western psychology.

The theoretical framework of eight-character numerology also originates from the "three", which identifies that the world is a society composed of heaven, earth, and man, that there is a god between heaven and earth, that the world is a world composed of "spirit" and "matter", and that spirit determines matter.

Therefore, both numerology and psychology are part of philosophy, anthropology, sociology.

If we talk about the difference, the difference is only that Chinese numerology is a generalized science, with a wide range of research, focusing on the time and space of the entire universe, with a vague direction and a wide range of content. Western psychology, on the other hand, is a narrow science, limited to the study of "spirit" and "matter", with clear goals and clear research directions.

In generalized numerology, Bagua is a universal study that follows Chinese science, not only the study of "people", but also the study of "things". However, eight-character numerology is not a generalized science, but is limited to the study of people's "spirit and matter", and it is a study with clear goals and clear research directions.

In the final analysis, numerology and psychology are both studies of "people", agreeing that there is a god in the world, that the world is a world composed of "spirit" and "matter", and mainly studying the nature and regularity of human life.
