Chapter 845: The True Weapon of the State

Lin Qi and Xiao Lei stayed at the lithography machine booth for a moment.

"0.5 micron process lithography machine, a mature mass production model. The CPU chip used in the Pangu 8 generation computer is based on this device......"

"At present, a lithography machine like this, with an export price of 20 million US dollars, is the first to place an order and can be shipped within 3 months, and the later the order, the later the delivery. Of course, we at Linmeng Technology Co., Ltd. will adjust the price of the lithography machine that has not left the factory every 3 months, and the later we receive the goods, we may enjoy more discounts than the price of the signed order. ”

"According to the current mass production line estimate, Linmeng's 0.5 micron lithography machine can produce about 400,000 single-core CPU chips per month. In terms of the quad-core Luban 2nd generation chip, the annual production capacity is 1 million. The price of $200 per chip is $20 million a year. According to this cost measurement, the production line can recover the investment cost within 2~3 years. Subsequently, although the 0.5 micron process will depreciate with the law of Moore's Law, it is possible to obtain higher profits by reducing the ex-factory price of the chip. After all, the cost has been fully recovered before, and after that, the ability to continue to use the equipment creates additional benefits. ”

At the booth of Linmeng Technology Company, the commentator continued to introduce some customers to the equipment on display. Although the number of these customers is relatively small, far less lively than those consumer electronics booths, most of the interested customers are large customers with more purchasing power.

More than 100 customers gathered at the scene, listened carefully to the introduction, and carefully studied the different text versions of the posters. Soon after, there were already some representatives of manufacturers who had the intention to buy.

For example, AMD placed an order for 30 units on the spot, and most of AMD's production lines are older than 0.5 micron lithography machines.

Therefore, it is still necessary to replace the equipment to prevent AMD from falling too far behind the leading manufacturers. Of course, AMD is not exactly placing an order with Linmeng Technology Co., Ltd. to purchase lithography machines, and more advanced lithography machines are still ordering from Japanese and European manufacturers.

However, mainstream models like 0.5 micron lithography machines, Lin Meng Technology Company is more cost-effective.

At the same time, in order to reduce its own production costs, AMD is preparing to put into production chip production lines in China. Even if, Pangu 8 and subsequent models of Pangu Computer Co., Ltd. cannot be supplied.

However, the current Pangu compatible machine camp is actually very hungry for chips. Essentially, it is the insufficient supply of CPU chips that limits the shipment of compatible phones.

Moreover, AMD is more cunning, and through the pressure exerted by the US government, the new start-up department has further loosened the grip on AMD. Previously, the XRM-based chips produced by AMD needed to be sold through the exclusive agent of the new venture electronics group, which was considered a monopoly by the United States.

Later, before the antitrust investigation came, Lin Qi settled with AMD, allowing AMD to sell its XRM-based chips independently, and only need to pay royalties at 2.5% of the market price of each chip.

After being able to sell independently, the profit margin is naturally much higher than working for a new start-up.

This is also the reason why AMD has the motivation to expand chip production capacity on a large scale.

……

It can be said that this is no longer an exhibition of low-end cheap products in the general sense, but with a certain ostentatious nature, telling the domestic and international that we already have quite advanced technology.

For example, in the early 90s, there were still nearly 100 companies with lithography machine R&D and manufacturing capabilities in the world. However, the vast majority of lithography machines that can be supplied by manufacturers are products with a process of less than 1 micron.

Although leading manufacturers in the semiconductor industry like Intel have begun to try the 0.35 micron process, in fact, Intel really mass-produces high-end chips with a 0.5 micron process.

In other words, since the beginning of 93, China's semiconductor industry has used the same level of technology and fair competition with international manufacturers for the first time.

The result is naturally obvious, because the domestic CPU chips are mainly reduced instruction sets, so the same 0.5 micron process is the Pentium of Intel's 0.5 micron process. As a result, Intel is confident in using the same process to achieve the specific performance of the XRM architecture chip, and the 0.5-micron process has just been popularized for more than a year. Intel has already begun to scramble to prepare for the 0.35 micron process. Even, the 0.35 micron process still feels unstable, so more advanced processes such as 0.25, 0.2, 0.15, 0.1 micron will make Intel feel more secure.

To some extent, the world's semiconductor industry is now manufacturing much faster than it has historically been. This is mainly due to the fact that competition has led to more advanced processes being adopted more quickly.

At the same time, because China can produce advanced lithography machines, it has also led to the global lithography machine suppliers, the supply of lithography machine products, lower than the original price.

For a developing country as large as China, economic development is largely due to the ability to learn like cotton. After the Industrial Revolution, a lot of experience and technology were accumulated for China to learn from.

At the same time, like all good industrial countries, after absorbing and digesting overseas experience, it gradually became one of the sources of innovation.

Just like after the industrial revolution in Europe, almost all backward countries in Germany, the United States, and Japan, in the process of development, will inevitably imitate the technology and experience of advanced countries through a large number of copycats, so as to continuously improve their own strength.

As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, Japan had fully accepted the Chinese system, whether it was writing, poetry and songs, history, metal smelting, breeding, farming, textiles, architecture, clothing, etiquette, and so on, they were basically copied. In modern times, with the decline of China, Japan has comprehensively copied the experience of Europe and the United States, military industrial culture, and so on. Copycat imitation to a certain extent, can no longer be easily introduced and imitated to improve, this has gradually begun to become a big country of independent innovation. After the eighties and nineties, Japan should basically be whitewashed, and there are few people who accuse Japan of plagiarism everywhere, but many technologies are improved and innovated by Japan.

China is still in the learning stage, a large number of knowledge and products, need to understand, how overseas advanced enterprises do, on the basis of learning and learning more, absorption, digestion and innovation, is the king.

Blindly emphasizing independent innovation is actually equivalent to making a car behind closed doors. Sometimes, learning and thinking go hand in hand, and after that, the foundation can be more solid. If we only emphasize independent innovation and reject imitation and learning, it is equivalent to thinking but not learning.

To a certain extent, even if China introduces some technologies that are ten or twenty years behind in the world, they may be taken domestically, which can be regarded as accelerating the technological accumulation and development speed of domestic related industries.

However, the situation in the semiconductor industry is different, because the technical threshold for semiconductors is very high, and a few years is a threshold. Five or ten years behind, in the consumer market, it is already the difference between heaven and earth, and the product is simply electronic waste, and it is difficult to sell it for free.

Moreover, the promotion of the semiconductor industry for science and technology and the military is very obvious. Taking the Gulf War as an example, the United States attacked Iraq not because the US military had a stronger firepower advantage, but because of the technological generation gap brought about by the development of semiconductor technology. If the US military's missiles and artillery can be fired more accurately, and that it can use advanced technology weapons and Iraq's communications equipment to lose its unified command, hundreds of thousands of troops will naturally be easily defeated like headless flies.

After the Gulf War, the whole world realized the importance of semiconductor chips, and many key chips were not so easy to import.

Not to mention the lithography machine that can make chips, which has obviously increased in importance even more after the Gulf War. Even a country with a good relationship cannot teach China various technologies in the entire semiconductor industry.

It is precisely for this reason that some manufacturers only intend to export relatively advanced lithography machines to China in 2018, but they open their eyes and say nonsense that they did not sell because China did not buy them, and the ban on sales did not exist. However, the reason why China does not buy it is because the embargo does not allow China to import, and manufacturers with technology are not allowed to export. Well, the manufacturer may be willing to sell, but because of "irresistible factors", they don't sell.

Interpreting that China has not bought it means that there is no ban on sales is because China does not buy it, so it has not been sold. This is almost like a white horse not a horse, it is a quibble.

In the original history, the country was resigned to fate, believing that this kind of high capital threshold and high technology threshold industry, due to the technical blockade, coupled with the need for a market for products to feed related industries, a few years behind is completely electronic waste. Therefore, only a small amount of money is invested, and the advanced technology is followed up in the laboratory, and mass production is not carried out. As long as it can be made and used, at least small batches of products such as satellites and missiles, it is enough to have usable chips.

Civilian electronic products with a larger market space are basically imported.

But this is also a choice in desperation.

Traditional industrial products, which may be produced by the process of twenty or thirty years ago, are actually not significantly different from the current process.

However, for such high-tech products, with a gap of five years, there is basically no comparison.

The existence of the new entrepreneurship department is equivalent to opening a hanging. In addition, many people began to have more self-confidence in domestic advanced technology and technology.

Of course, the lithography machine, which is an important tool of the country, is not so much the machine itself, but the ability of the R&D team to tackle key problems. The machine itself will become obsolete in a few years, but with a continuous R&D team and industrial chain, it is an important weapon of the country that will never go out of style.
