Volume 2 Plane Rivalry Chapter 232 Reinforcement from Western Buddhism
Jizo Bodhisattva walked up to everyone and said, "All the donors and the immortal family are well, it's polite to meet the poor monk again!"
Yang Zhuochao opened his mouth and asked: I don't know why the Bodhisattva went and returned?
Jizo Bodhisattva said: The immortal family is laughing, don't you ask knowingly! Then he turned sideways to the black and white impermanence and said: I came here to report to the two Yin Missions, and I would like to ask the two messengers to report to the Ten Palaces of the Yama King and the "Emperor of Xudu".
Let's just say that although the "Dark Hell" was infiltrated and attacked by the Demon King Yeqing, I will protect it, so you can rest assured! In addition, I have summoned the "Five Hundred Bhikshus" and "Eighteen Arhats" from the Western World to sit with me in the "Dark Hell".
I think the strength is enough to deal with the current situation!" "The Eternal Night Underworld only needs to concentrate its forces to deal with the Demon King Yeqing, and there is no need to divide the forces to help me." Amitabha!
Jizo Bodhisattva waited until he finished speaking, and did not wait for the black and white impermanence to answer! After bowing to everyone, he walked away on his own. Leave a group of stunned people!
Xie Bi'an shook his head and said with a wry smile: Don't be strange to the immortals, the Bodhisattva is such a mind! On the surface, there is no appearance, no self, no one, no sentient beings, and no longevity. But the heart is compassionate, and there are only sentient beings in one heart!
Yang Zhuochao asked: Just now the Bodhisattva said that there were "five hundred monks" and "eighteen arhats" on his side, but there were only more than five hundred people, could they stop the enemy of the demon king Yeqing's army?
Xie Bi'an said: Don't underestimate these more than 500 people, these are all the new force of Western Buddhism!
These "500 bhikshus" are actually what is often referred to as the "500 arhats"! It generally refers to the 500 bhikshus who participated in the first sutra assembly after the death of Buddha Shakya, with Mahakāya and Ananda as the heads. As for the rest of the 500 bhikshus, there is generally no record of their names except for the well-known ten disciples.
As for the origin of the arhats, in addition to the 500 bhikshus who participated in the first assembly of the Buddhist scriptures, there are also theories that the 500 disciples who followed Shakyamuni to listen to the Dharma and preach.
One said: In ancient times, there was a king who wanted to eat goose meat and ordered hunters to catch geese. There happened to be 500 geese flying by, and the king of geese fell into the net by mistake, and the hunter was overjoyed and ready to kill him, but suddenly he couldn't bear it and let the king of geese go.
When the king heard this, he stopped eating goose meat. The king is the king of Ajata, the king of geese is the Buddha, one wild goose is Ananda, and the rest are the five hundred arhats.
The second said: A hunter caught 500 geese with a net and killed them all. Five hundred geese were reborn for thirty-three days because of the success of hearing the Dharma!
Three said: There are 500 bats living in a large dead tree hole, and a group of merchants stop here to rest. They lit a fire to keep warm, and burned until the dead tree was burned, and it happened that a merchant was holding a Buddhist sutra in his hand and chanting, although the bat was surrounded by fire, because of the love of the music of the law, he endured it and was finally burned to death. These 500 bats were reincarnated as human beings, attaining the Sacred Fruit and becoming 500 Arhats.
In addition, according to the legend of the ancient Huanyu Tianzhu, there were 500 robbers who occupied the mountain as the king in the country of Kansari, and then fought with the officials and soldiers, and all of them were captured. They were gouged out and banished to the mountains. The robbers ran desperately in the forest and shouted!
When the Buddha heard this, he was very compassionate and used miraculous medicine to restore their sight. Since then, the five hundred robbers have abandoned evil and promoted good, converted to Buddhism, and carried out rebirth and transformation, and all of them have achieved positive results in their hearts. Become a 500 Arhat.
In Buddhism, the fruits of Arhats are inferior to those of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, so their status is lower than theirs, so the place where they live can only be called "halls" and not "halls"! Arhats have very good practice, so they have a "golden body", but from the perspective of purifying sentient beings, it is difficult to say!
Therefore, the status of bodhisattvas is much higher than theirs. Bodhisattvas sometimes even sacrifice themselves in order to enter the world and save the world, regardless of personal gains and losses, which cannot be compared with these "Hinayana" arhats. In many Buddhist scriptures, Shakyamuni Buddha often scolded the arhats, saying that they were "scorched seeds" and selfish, and that they should learn from the bodhisattvas.
The 18 Arhats refer to the 18 Arhats who live forever in the world and uphold the Dharma in Buddhist legends, who are from the 16 Arhats and the 2 Venerables! They are all historical figures, and they are all personal disciples of Shakyamuni.
Shakyamuni Buddha instructed the 16 Arhats to live forever in the world so that the Dharma could be passed on to future generations after the Buddha's extinction, so that sentient beings would have the opportunity to hear about the Dharma. After Buddhism spread to the world, it eventually evolved into the Eighteen Arhats.
Luohan, that is, the abbreviation of arhat. There are three levels of explanation in paraphrasing: first, it can help people get rid of all the troubles in life; Second, it is said that it can accept the offerings of heaven and earth; The third is that it can help people no longer suffer from reincarnation.
That is, killing thieves, making offerings, and having no life, which is the highest level of cultivation for the Buddha's enlightened disciples. Arhats are pure in body and mind, and ignorance and afflictions have been broken. He has been freed from life and death, and has entered Nirvana. It can be respected and supported by all people. Before the end of his life, he still lives in the world and has few desires, precepts and purity, and educates the people according to fate.
Legend has it that Arhats were originally the ultimate goal pursued by the Hinayana Buddhism, but under the persuasion and encouragement of the Buddha Shakyamuni, all the Arhats returned to the small to the large, "the past life is not nirvana", to help maintain Mahayana Buddhism, so in Mahayana Buddhism, the Arhats also have their new status and deeds.
Arhats, also known as arhats, refer to saints who can cut off all afflictions, reach the state of nirvana, no longer suffer from the cycle of birth and death, have the virtue of guiding sentient beings to goodness, and are worthy of being supported by the heavens.
These eighteen arhats are: Bindu Ravara Fallen Pavilion Venerable ~ "Sitting on the deer Arhat", sitting on the sacred deer, thoughtful and calm, pure and self-appreciative. His Holiness Bindu Ravara is also known as Venerable Bintou Lu.
The Vara Pavilion is one of the eighteen surnames of ancient Tianzhu, and is the noble Brahmin family, and Binduro is the name. This Arhat was originally the minister of King Tianzhu Youtuoyan, and he had the power to a country, but he suddenly set his heart to become a monk. King Yutoyan personally asked him to turn around as an official, but he was afraid of the king's instigation, so he fled into the mountains to practice.
One day, a deer-riding monk appeared in front of the palace, and the Imperial Forest Army recognized it as the Vara Fallen Pavilion, and hurriedly reported it to King Yutuoyan. The king came out to take him into the palace, said that the state was still vacant, and asked him if he would come back to be an official.
He said that he wanted to guide the king to become a monk, and he used all kinds of metaphors to illustrate the disgusting nature of all kinds of desires, and as a result, the king abdicated the crown prince and became a monk with him..... According to Buddhist scriptures, Venerable Bintou Lu is an arhat who has not yet attained nirvana and is still in the world.
The Venerable Kanoga Dai ~ "Rejoicing Arhat", the demons are eliminated, Yuyu clarifies and raises his hands to celebrate, and his heart is full of joy. The Venerable Kano Gadai is one of the ancient Tianzhu commentators. A commentator is an orator and orator who is good at talking about Buddhism. When asked what joy was, he explained that it was joy that comes from hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch.
Someone asked him, "What is Gaoqing?" He said: "The happiness that is not felt by the ears, eyes, mouth, nose, and hands is Gaoqing." For example, if you are looking at the Buddha and the mind is aware of the Buddha's presence, you will feel happy. He often smiled when he spoke and debated, and he was famous for his festive speeches, hence the name Festive Arhat, or Rejoicing Arhat.
Venerable Noga Varita ~ "Bowl Arhat", Venerable Noga Varita was originally a monk who turned into a relationship. His method of turning his fortune is different, which is to hold up an iron bowl and beg for food, and after becoming enlightened, the world calls him "Arhat who lifts the bowl".
The Venerable Kano Kavali is a compassionate and equal alcheishment. Benefiting the world through almsgiving, planting merit for sentient beings, preaching the Dharma to them, and enlightening sentient beings by example and words.
