Chapter 17: Luna Lovegood
The next day, the second graders had a Defence Against the Dark Arts class for the first time.
Although Lockhart's lesson yesterday almost became a joke, that didn't stop the girls from continuing to worship him. Hermione, for example, has always stubbornly believed that Lockhart deliberately released the elves in order to increase the opportunity for everyone to practice.
So when Evan arrived at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, he wasn't surprised to see all the girls sitting in the front row of the class.
Once the class was seated, Lockhart walked into the classroom, still looking radiant.
"Hello everyone, I think you all know me!" he blinked, revealing eight white teeth, "Gilderoy Lockhart, 3rd Class Medal of the Order of Merlin, Honorary Member of the Anti-Dark Arts League, five-time winner of the Wizarding Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award, but I never put this on my lips, I don't use a smile to exorcise Wanlun's female ghosts!"
Very corny opening remarks, and Evan was sure he said the same thing yesterday.
"Very good, I see that you have all bought my complete set of books, I thought we would take a quiz today, maybe you already know some information from the senior students, but I have to regret to tell you that today's test questions are completely different from yesterday. He handed out the test papers to everyone, "Give you thirty minutes, start now!"
Evan looked at the test paper in his hand, which included more than fifty questions such as what is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite food, Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest wish, and Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement so far.
Evan covered his forehead weakly, in fact, he didn't know the answer to a single question, he didn't buy Lockhart's books at all.
But it didn't matter, he bit the quill and thought for a while, and began to write on the test paper. He was going to tell Lockhart about Hogwarts Wizardry and Wizardry, and invited him to be the target of the "Persona" column for a long time, but of course Evan was telling the story in the tone of an admirer.
On the test paper in hand, he struggled to describe himself as a crazy admirer of Lockhart.
Although Evan is not, it is very simple, because he has a lot of people around him to use as a reference.
He tried to emulate Hermione's tone, and in his description, Hogwarts Wizardry was a newspaper dedicated to Lockhart himself, through which Evan intended to show Lockhart's fans photos and daily life of teaching at Hogwarts, helping him to further expand his influence.
Evan spent a great deal of time describing the benefits of doing so, and by the time he finished the letter he had written, full of exaggerated compliments, exactly thirty minutes had passed.
Lockhart then put the test paper away and looked through it in front of the class.
"Tsk, I'm disappointed, yes, none of you have written down all my things like Miss Granger in the second grade, and if you read the book "A Year with the Tibetan Yeti" again, you will know what my favorite food is, and I made it clear in Chapter 4 of "Traveling with Ghouls"
Lockhart flipped through the parchment in his hand until he saw Evan's.
"Wait, here's an interesting paper. He watched intently and kept muttering in a low voice, "That's right, that's exactly what I've always wanted to do, to further expand my influence and become the most admired wizard, that's very good!"
In the classroom, all the students looked at him curiously.
Everyone didn't know what Lockhart was muttering, Vicky Robischer, Aven's roommate, a good-looking boy was craning his neck, trying to see the contents of the paper.
"Yes, I do!" Lockhart suddenly flipped the paper over, "Hundred! Where's Mr. Evan Mason?"
Evan hurriedly stood up, and everyone's eyes turned to him.
"Great, Aven, I'm more than willing to share my story with my most loyal fans. Lockhart smiled and said, "Very good, add ten points to Gryffindor!"
When Evan sat down again, Colin next to him whispered, "Evan is incredible, what did you write on it?"
"Nothing, just asking him to give us a few pictures, get your camera ready, Colin. Evan smiled and said, "We started taking pictures after class, we didn't have much time. ”
Aside from the initial episode, the rest of the time is relatively boring.
The Defence Against the Dark Arts class almost turned into a reading class, and Lockhart asked the students to stand up and read his book aloud in turn, and just when everyone was bored, it was time for the end of the lesson. All the students left the classroom as fast as they could, except for Evan, who dragged Colin to the podium, who was still a little dazed.
Lockhart complimented Evan and said he was always available to help if there were any problems with the preparation of the newspaper.
When he knew that the fiction section had not received any manuscripts so far, Lockhart even expressed his willingness to put the manuscript on which he had not been released to the public and serialize.
Next, it was Lockhart who kept posing for Colin to shoot.
Evan was surprised to find that Lockhart could show his eight charming teeth just right from any angle.
This point made Evan very impressed.
Due to time constraints, after taking a dozen more photos, Evan and Colin had to say goodbye, and Loha specially invited the two of them to his office after dinner to continue shooting.
They were five minutes late because of Lockhart's enthusiasm, and his heart sank when Evan learned from Colin that the next class was Transfiguration.
Professor McGonagall was unlike any other professor, she was strict and intelligent, and all freshmen were admonished to try not to provoke her and Professor Snape in school, as it often ended badly.
Now, they dared to be late for the first class, and Evan didn't dare to think about it anymore. When the two of them ran outside the Transfiguration classroom, they saw a strangely dressed Ravenclaw girl standing outside the door.
The girl had unkempt, dirty, waist-length blond hair, very light eyebrows, two eyes protruding outward, which gave her a look of surprise, a pair of turnip-shaped earrings on her ears, and a necklace strung with a butterbeer cork on her chest, which exuded a mad energy.
"What are you doing, it's class time!" Colin asked, uncertain.
"I'm looking for the trail left by the Bubble Snot. The girl said in a trance, her gaze resting on the open space outside the door of the Transfiguration classroom.
"Excuse me, what are you looking for?"
"Bubble Snot. The girl looked up and fixed her eyes on Aven, "You're Evan Mason." ”
"That's right, it's me, who are you?"
"Luna Lovegood. She turned her light gaze to Colin to the side, "I don't know who you are?"
Before Colin could reply, the door to the classroom was opened from the inside, and Professor McGonagall looked at the three of them with a serious expression.
"Mr. Mason, Mr. Creevey, and Miss Lovegood, it's class time, and you're late!" her mouth pursed, "if you're not going to come in, then never come in again." ”
Evan and Colin hurriedly walked into the classroom with their heads bowed, and Luna sat next to them.
"It's unfortunate to have met Luna. Colin whispered, "She's a new Ravenclaw freshman, everyone calls her Mad Girl, and I've heard that she actually believes that Bubble Slug and Scimitar Snorkel exist." ”
"But they do exist. Luna interjected suddenly.
"How is it possible, these are just fictions"
"Be quiet, Colin!" Evan stabbed him, "Also, don't say anything you don't know." ”
"A wise choice. Luna said in a low voice, in a singing tone, "Extraordinary ingenuity is the greatest treasure of mankind." ”
Colin was about to say something, but he saw Professor McGonagall glaring at him, and he hurriedly shut his mouth.
"Transfiguration is the most complex and dangerous spell you'll ever use in Hogwarts class, and if anyone is going to be mischievous in my class, I don't expect to see him in the next class, I warned you. ”
With that, Professor McGonagall turned her lectern into a pig and back again.
The students were intrigued and wanted to start learning right away, but they soon realized that it would take a long time to turn furniture into animals.
After taking down a large number of intricate notes, Professor McGonagall gave each of them a match and began to let them try to turn into a needle.
It was very difficult for young wizards who had just entered the school to do this, and they couldn't even make any changes to the matches. It wasn't until near the end of class that Evan turned the match head into a pinpoint, but he was still the fastest student in the class.
Evan noticed that Professor McGonagall's mouth didn't seem to be as tight as it was.
