Chapter XXIII: The Dueling Club
On Monday morning, news that Colin Creevey had been attacked and was now lying in his hospital room like a dead man spread all over the school. Suddenly, rumors flew in the school, and everyone was suspicious. First-year students are now always huddled together in groups of three or five, as if they are afraid that if they go alone, they will be attacked.
During this time, everyone hid from the teacher and chattered about exchanging amulets, exorcisms, and other toys to protect themselves. The practice quickly took the school by storm, and Neville Longbottom bought a large, stinking onion, a spiky amethyst, and a rotting newt tail.
In the second week of December, Professor Snape, as usual, was impatiently collecting the list of students who had stayed on campus for Christmas. Only a few Slytherins remained, including Phoenix, and the Baldes fled to the south of France.
Somebody then deliberately disrupted in Potions class by throwing a firework into Goyle's cauldron, leaving Snape furious. However, Phoenix noticed Hermione sneaking into Snape's private storage room, and it seemed that they were planning to do something, hoping that it was not some stupid idea.
A week later, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were walking through the foyer when they suddenly saw a small group of people gathered around the bulletin board, reading the words on two freshly nailed parchments.

Interested parties can take a practical assessment at the Duel Club to be held tonight.
"This assessment is really exaggerated, it is simply an Auror training class. A Ravenclaw boy next to him complained. People kept rushing to the auditorium to write petitions, and they collided with people who kept hearing the news, and the entire foyer became crowded.
"Oh, Phoenix told me last summer, but he didn't say it would involve N.E.W.Ts. I'm afraid I don't even need any of the books I read. Get out of the way, I'm going to the library. Hermione shouted.
"What is N.E.W.Ts?" Harry had to shout so he could hear Ron.
"It's the ultimate wizard level, our 7th grade exam. But you have to pass the 5th grade O.W.L. first. Ron replied with difficulty.
"Then we won't be able to reach any of them. ”
"No, reach one. We are students in the fifth grade and below. ”
At eight o'clock in the evening, the long dining table in the auditorium disappeared, and along one wall appeared a gilded stage, illuminated by hundreds of candles floating above. Almost all the students from the school came, everyone with their wands in their hands, their faces full of excitement.
Gilderoy Lockhart walked onto the stage, dressed in a fuchsia robe, shining brightly, and the person beside him was none other than Snape, dressed in his usual black clothes.
Lockhart waved everyone to silence, and then shouted, "That's right, Professor Dumbledore has allowed me to open this little dueling club and train everyone enough in case you need to defend yourself one day, in the same way I have used countless times to protect yourself." For more information on this, see my published work. Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape," said Lockhart, grinning widely, "and he told me that he knew a thing or two about dueling himself, and he graciously agreed to assist me in a little demonstration before class. I said, I don't want you little ones to worry, and when I'm done demonstrating to him, I'll give you back your potions teacher intact, don't be afraid!"
Snape's upper lip curled. Lockhart and Snape turned to face each other and bowed. At least Lockhart bowed, his hands flipping in a lot of patterns, and Snape just shook his head impatiently. Then, they held their respective wands to their chests like arrows.
"As you can see, we hold our wands in a normal duel position," Lockhart said to the silent crowd, "and we'll do the first magic on the count of three." Of course, neither of us will take the other's life. ”
"One, two, three. ”
Both of them jerked their wands over their shoulders at the same time. Snape shouted, "Get rid of your weapons!"
Suddenly, a dazzling red light flashed, and Lockhart was knocked unsteady on his feet. He jerked backwards off the stage, slammed into the wall, and then slid down, curled up on the floor.
The Slytherin students applauded.
"Now let the students, demonstrate," Snape felt that the applause was long enough, and looked at Lockhart, who had already knocked him unconscious, and took the reins of command. "Peverell came up. ”
After taking the stage, Phoenix said: "As the announcement said, applicants who want to take a practical assessment are invited to come up. ”
One of the Hufflepuff students was forcibly pushed up by someone behind him. Cedric Diggory, a fifth-grader. The crowd was talking about it, thinking it was a bit unfair, after all, he was three grades above Phoenix.
Phoenix motioned to Snape to be okay, or he would definitely take Cedric down.
"Cedric Diggory. ”
"Phoenix Peverell. ”
"Bow. Professor Snape said.
The two bowed to each other, their wands raised to their chests. "One, two, three. ”
"Get rid of your weapons!" Cedric shouted.
"Armor!" Phoenix's Iron Charm was so agile that it shook Cedric off balance. A sharp dagger appeared out of thin air and flew quickly towards Cedric, who had just risen.
"The chair flew in. The oncoming chair blocked the attack, and then the chair turned into a bulldog. The overwhelming rhythm of the battle made the students constantly change between exclamation and cheer.
"It's all petrified. "The pit bull only had time to take two steps before he was struck by Phoenix's spell, and the stone statue remained motionless.
"Except for your weapons. Cedric took advantage of the fact that Phoenix had to deal with the dog, and decisively used a disarming charm again, but was bounced off by the Iron Charm again.
"Stars in the eyes. Cedric was caught off guard, and the eye curse caused him to temporarily lose his vision. Then the wand came out. The Slytherin's cheers continued.
"You're so good, Silent Spell. I was convinced. Cedric didn't have the chagrin of the loser, but was a little nervous.
"It's over, your Transfiguration Charm is really good. But my reply to you is very clear, you are too old-" Phoenix whispered.
"Well, I know- but my friends- they don't like you very much-"
None of the subsequent applicants had the strength to satisfy Phoenix, and most of them couldn't survive two moves, so they were disarmed. When Phoenix tried to step down, Snape told him to wait. Even if he didn't have to take the mind to it, he knew it. Snape was going to make Harry suffer.
"I think you should have learned a lot from Peverell's duel. Snape's gaze swept over the auditorium, and finally stopped at Harry, "So, test it." ”
"Potter, come up. Snape watched happily, trying to hide Harry behind Hermione.
Snape approached Phoenix and told him not to disarm Harry.
