101 On Writing (27) "Duplex Suspense (Non-Original

Recently, many friends have been confused, there are many books that are not popular at the starting point, and they don't know what the problem is? Why are tens of thousands of collections on the shelves dismal after they are put on the shelves? Pen | fun | pavilion www. biquge。 info

101 has been studying this aspect of the problem, and my personal experience is that the plot is not exquisite and complex enough, and it is too thin to attract people only by relying on the new ideas of Goldfinger, which can easily cause the embarrassing situation of "the new ideas are exhausted, and the readers are gone".

Therefore, it is recommended that you study the plot setting of Master Jin Yong more, and apply the suspense techniques in it to our current online fast food novels, which will definitely enhance the attractiveness of the work.

How to Set Up Compound Suspense (On the Plot Art of Jin Yong's Novels)

Author: Yan Jiayan

An artistic labyrinth with a strong charm -- not relying on misunderstandings and tricks, not relying on delusional plots -- borrowing a certain model, but not falling into a certain pattern -- being good at setting up suspense, and putting forward suspense through twists and turns -- compound suspense, interlocking -- virtual and real, confusing -- strange peaks and sudden turns, daring to use dangerous strokes -- surprising people, in people's minds -- the inspiration of "Journey to the West" and Kafka's "Metamorphosis".

Reading many of Jin Yong's works, we all have the same experience: we can't put it down when we pick it up, and we always want to read it in one go, sometimes to the point where we forget to sleep and eat, stay up all night, and can't stop. His novels don't have to read the beginning to know the problem of the end. The plot twists and turns, waves, layers of progression, unpredictable, like a spiritual magnet, an artistic labyrinth, with a powerful charm to attract readers. Jin Yong neither repeats others nor himself, and the 15 novels he created have few similarities in terms of plot design. Again, this is very valuable.

What is the secret of the plot of Jin Yong's novel being so fascinating?

Some people believe that Jin Yong's martial arts novels are attractive because the storyline is particularly magical. This perception is not accurate. Of course, there will be many magical plots in martial arts novels, but in martial arts novels, Jin Yong's storyline is far from the most miraculous. Jin Yong's novels have neither the sword fairy fighting techniques and spit white light in the works of the master of Huanzhulou, nor the calling for wind and rain and the exorcism of ghosts in Pingjiang Buxiaosheng's works. Compared with the martial arts novels of the past, the plot of Jin Yong's novels is much more plain, the colors of gods and demons are much less, and the most bizarre ones are only the "Nine Yin and White Bone Claws" practiced by the black wind and the "Star Absorbing Dafa" that absorbs other people's internal qi. Obviously, Jin Yong did not apply his extraordinarily rich artistic imagination to the design of the plot of the delusion. In addition, Jin Yong's novels do not rely on tricks such as misunderstandings to support their plots. Like twins, the two have similar appearances, so it causes misunderstandings, Jin Yong occasionally uses "The Legend of the Heroes of Shooting Peng" to have true and false Qiu Qian, and "Chivalry Walk" has Shi Zhongyu and Shi Potian), but never rely on this method to support the main skeleton of the plot of the work. Jin Yong himself said in the "Afterword" of "The Journey of Heroes": "Because the two people are similar in appearance, which causes all kinds of misunderstandings, this kind of ancient legendary story must not become a solid structure of the novel." Although Shakespeare also repeatedly used the theme of twin brothers and twin sisters, none of those works were his best plays. In the novel "Chivalrous Journey", what I want to write about is mainly the feelings of Shi Qing and his wife who love and pity their son, so Shi Potian and Shi Zhongyu are similar in appearance, which is not the focus of gravity. (1) It can be seen that Jin Yong does not want to take shortcuts in plot conception.

So, what does Jin Yong's novel rely on to attract and capture people? I think it depends on the boldness, richness, and rationality of artistic imagination, and the compact, tortuous, and rigorous organization of the plot. In other words, he relied on art itself.

Jin Yong is indeed a good hand at designing the plot. The plot of his novel has the following strengths and characteristics:

One is out of mode, eclectic

In general, martial arts novels always have a set of patterned things: the characters are divided into two categories, one is the hero of justice, full of righteousness, and the other is the embodiment of evil, insidious and evil; If you read too much of this kind of novel, you will lose your appetite and make people tired. Jin Yong's novel breaks through this kind of box. (In "Snow Mountain Flying Fox" and "Flying Fox Gaiden", the hero Hu Yidao, who is strong in martial arts and righteous and awe-inspiring, just fell for the villain's plot and wrongfully threw his life on the poisoned knife; The evil and vicious Ouyang Feng in "The Legend of the Heroes of Shepeng" was not defeated by Hong Qigong, a nine-fingered beggar who represented justice, but caused Ji to seriously injure Hong Qigong, until the last second Huashan martial arts competition, and with abnormal and strange martial arts, he was unable to deal with Qigong and Huang Yaoshi. Some of the other important bad guys in the book, like Ouyang Ke and Yang Kang, were not eliminated by the forces of justice, but died at the hands of the bad guys themselves - Ouyang Ke died at the hands of Yang Kang, and Yang Kang died at the hands of Ouyang Feng. Guo Jing's masters, the righteous and very decent Jiangnan Seven Monsters, but six of the seven were all killed by the bad guys. This is where the aesthetic concept of the novel is not generalized. The author writes the story in the context of history, and writes that history has a very harsh side - it does not develop according to the good intentions of any good people. Genghis Khan was so aggressive that he often brutally slaughtered people throughout the city, and he forced Guo Jing to attack the Lai Dynasty, forcing Guo Jing's mother to commit suicide on the spot. But such a Genghis Khan, who did not represent justice, won the victory and established a Mongol empire of unprecedented proportions. And civilians like Guo Jing, even if they try their best, they can't save the overall situation. Similarly, Wanyan Honglie is cunning and vicious, but he has been in power for a long time. All these enhance the twists and turns and tragedy of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "The Legend of the Heroes", and give the novel a tragic atmosphere.

Jin Yong pays attention to the plot mode of the novel. But he studies patterns in order to break out of the patterns and bring forth the new. After all, the model is only an external ready-made form, and Jin Yong values the inner life rationality more. He said in the article "Wei Xiaobao, the Little Guy": "According to the analysis of Western drama researchers, there are basically only 36 kinds of plots in dramas and novels. It can also be said that it is difficult to get beyond these 36 variations in the drama of life. However, thousands of plays and novels have been written in the past, and there will continue to be thousands of new plays and novels published in the future. People don't get bored with the repetition of the plot. Because the personalities of the characters in the drama are not the same as in the novel. Of course, the author's way of expression and technique are also different. ”②

Martial arts novels, as a type of popular fiction, have their own narrative mode. The most common are "Revenge Mode" and "Treasure Hunt Mode". The so-called "revenge mode" is that a decent person suddenly encounters a tragedy, and then the orphan studies hard, masters the strong martial arts, and then visits the enemy to realize the desire for revenge. A little twisted, plus the protagonist falls in love with the enemy's children or apprentices in the process of revenge. The so-called "treasure robbery mode", this "treasure" may be wealth, or it may be a very powerful weapon or martial arts classics, or it may be a panacea. In addition, there is the "subduing demons" or "fighting for heroes" mode: an evil force in the martial arts rises, repeatedly kills decent people, and has the potential to dominate the rivers and lakes, and the hero protagonist acts as the leader of the alliance and leads the heroes to win the decisive battle with the evil faction. There is also the "anti-riot mode", that is, upholding justice, resisting tyranny, and opposing the abuse of the weak. In Jin Yong's novels, there are generally these modes. is like "Blue Blood Sword", which is written about Yuan Chengzhi's revenge for his father Yuan Chonghuan, and there is also a subplot of revenge for the Golden Snake Langjun. Like "Liancheng Jue" and "Heaven and Dragon Slayer", it is mainly based on the "treasure grabbing mode". is like "Laughing and Doing Jianghu", which is close to the "subduing mode". For example, the earliest "Book of Swords and Enmity" is based on the background of anti-alien rule, close to the "anti-riot mode". Jin Yong's cleverness lies in borrowing a certain model, but not simply falling into a certain model. He is always changing, trying not to let the patterns tie his hands and feet, often using a combination of different modes of martial arts novels, and even absorbing certain modes of detective novels, mystery novels or romance novels (such as "love change mode") to use in his martial arts novels. Even "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", written in his early years, is a combination of multiple models and different strengths. Like Guo Xiaotian and Yang Tiexin, their families are ruined, and their children Guo Jing and Yang Kang want to take revenge when they grow up, which should be regarded as "revenge mode". However, Guo Jing and Yang Kang were respectively taught martial arts by the Seven Monsters of Jiangnan and Changchun Ziqiu, and agreed to win the competition after 18 years, as the main clue of the story, and also showed the magical kung fu of the martial arts characters of various gangs and factions and the struggle between them for the "Wu Mu Testament" and "Jiuming True Scripture". This breaks through the "revenge mode", and it is like "fighting for power", "riot" and "treasure grabbing". As for the revelation of the mystery of the murder of the six people in the "Seven Monsters of Jiangnan", it is even more like a detective mystery novel. "The Condor Heroes" focuses on the tortuous growth path of Yang Guo, as well as the unswerving love story between him and Xiaolongnu, but it also runs through the plot of competing for martial arts cheats such as the so-called "**" and "Jiuyang True Scripture", and it is also in a variety of modes in the background of anti-Yuan and anti-violence. What the author really pays attention to is not the pattern, but the character of the character. The story thread and plot focus are all set from the perspective of the characters' personalities. Jin Yong once said: "My personal ideal in writing martial arts novels is to create characters. …… When I conceived, I also centered on the main character, first thinking about the personality of the main characters, and the plot also matched the personality of the protagonist, what kind of personality this person has, and what kind of things will happen. (3) Thus, these plots are relatively solid within their own confines and stand up to scrutiny. And the later it goes, the design of the plot of the novel becomes more rigorous and mature. (101 Recently, the new book has also tried this kind of conception technique, it is indeed very useful, much better than the genre of plot shaping character, don't believe that, that pure cheating dad statement!) My street book is the plot that I think about first, and then put the characters in, and the character becomes impulsive and good, grandma's legs, and the reader is gone.) )

The second is called duplex suspense, which is intertwined

Novels, especially martial arts detective novels that are good at stories, must set up and use suspense. However, the level of achievements in the meantime cannot be calculated. Suspense is often used in classical Chinese novels, and it is often used between two episodes or in the middle of the story, which is related to the storyteller's appetite for the audience. Jin Yong's suspense is used by modern novelists: not only in the middle of the story, but also at the beginning of the novel. "Chivalrous Journey" and "Dragon Babu" are all contradictory at the beginning, which is worrying. "Smiling Proud Jianghu" has an extremely tense scene as soon as it comes up: Lin Pingzhi, the young master of the Fuwei Prostitution Bureau, fought with others, and after being forced to kill a Sichuan man surnamed Yu helplessly, that night, people continued to die in the drifting bureau, and one by one the prostitutes were killed, and there was no scar on the body. More than 20 people died in succession. The enemy wrote bloody words on the ground: "Death to those who go ten steps out!" Lin Zhennan, the chief prostitute, dissected the body of the deceased, only to find that the opponent turned out to be a master of the Qingcheng faction, and he used a very powerful "heart-destroying palm": it can shake the heart into many pieces without hurting the appearance of the skin. Lin Zhennan and his wife had to abandon their home and flee in this situation, and were soon arrested by the Qingcheng faction, leaving only the young master Lin Pingzhi to escape after being rescued. In the first chapter of the novel, a lot of suspense is laid out: What is the reason behind the emergence of such a tragic situation of the Lin family's prostitution? What will be the result of Lin Pingzhi's escape? Will he be able to practice martial arts in the future and take revenge on Xue? -- these suspense prompt the reader to read more and understand what is going on. In the process of unfolding the story, the original suspense has not yet been completely solved, and the author of the novel has created and arranged a series of new suspense: Liu Zhengfeng, a famous master of the Hengshan faction, washed his hands of gold and wanted to get rid of right and wrong in the rivers and lakes, but he was resolutely blocked by the Songshan faction and other Wuyue sword factions, and even Liu Zhengfeng's entire family would be killed. In this way, the link is so tightly linked that the reader has to read it nervously. Therefore, being good at setting up suspense is a major feature of Jin Yong's novels in terms of plot. Some works are still in suspense until the end. A reader asked Jin Yong: "Did Hu Fei's knife cut down in "Snow Mountain Flying Fox"?" Jin Yong smiled and said: "Even I don't know." ”

Jin Yong also seems to be particularly good at raising suspense through sudden turns. In "Heaven and Dragon Slayer", Zhang Wuji, Xie Xun and others went through hardships and dangers, and finally returned by ship from overseas, and the situation suddenly changed overnight: the dragon slayer knife and the Yitian sword suddenly disappeared, Zhao Min and the Persian ship were also scattered, and Zhang Wuji and Xie Xun became weak and powerless. This is a sudden and major twist in the plot. Who stole the Dragon Slayer Sword and the Heavenly Sword? What does this matter have to do with Zhao Min or the Persian ship? How did Zhang Wuji and Xie Xun become weak and powerless? From then on, the novel entered the realm of a confusing detective solving the case, which made people want to stop.

The suspense in Jin Yong's works sometimes exists in the form of "enigma". Enigma, in fact, is also suspense, but sometimes it is already clear, sometimes it is not picked out or realized by the reader. The mysteries in Jin Yong's novels are often multiple: there are dark and light, big and small, combined with each other, and they are interconnected. Take "Knight's Journey" as an example, it is a big mystery with a small mystery. The poem "Chivalrous Travel" and the atlas of "Taixuan Sutra" on the stone wall of Xia Ke Island contain a set of supreme martial arts, which no one can decipher, which is a big mystery. This mystery gives rise to a sub-mystery: because the owner of the chivalrous island has to send people to punish the evil and persuade the good every year, once a few years to invite the gang leaders of various gangs to the island to drink wax porridge, the people who go are there to go and never return, so it causes panic in the martial arts gangs, everyone is afraid that the gang leader will lose his life, and the Changle Gang will rob a little beggar to be the gang leader in this case. There is also a mystery below: Why did the Changle Gang rob this little beggar to be the gang leader? It turned out that he looked very similar to Shi Zhongyu, the gang leader who had disappeared before. This Shi Zhongyu was originally a playboy, and after he was praised as a helper, he just got what he wanted, hunting women. He had already caused a lot of trouble before his disappearance, and the consequences of it were borne by a little beggar who looked very much like him, and many embarrassing things were done. And this little beggar has his own mystery of life experience, which slowly leads to the love triangle contradictions of Shi Qing and Min Rou when they were young, the love contradictions of Bai Zizi and Shi Po and his wife, and so on. The plot is so complex, but it is like peeling off bamboo shoots layer by layer, and it is very tightly organized and neat. Until the end, it is a semi-open ending: due to the suicide of the little beggar's adoptive mother Mei Fanggu, the mystery is clear, but the author does not stand up to solve it.

The plot composition of "Dragon Babu" is similar but different. The three protagonists here have three mysteries of their life experiences. They are three rings that form a set of three rings with each other. Duan Yu's father, Duan Zhengchun, showed mercy everywhere, so that Duan Yu met several girls he liked one after another, and later found out that they were all his sisters, which is a big mystery. Among them, there are some small mysteries, such as Duan Zhengchun's wife Dao Baifeng had a relationship with Duan Yanqing in anger in order to take revenge on her husband, which solved the mystery of Duan Yu's life experience. The mystery of Qiao Feng's life experience and the tragic ending brought about by it are the most moving, containing many social contents during the period when the contradictions between Song and Liao were sharp. It is through the marriage between Duan Yu and Qiao Feng, the relationship between Duan Yu's half-sister Ah Zhu, Ah Zi and Qiao Feng, especially through the relationship between Duan Zhengchun and Mrs. Ma Kang Min, and it is connected with the previous big mystery, and it itself contains a number of smaller mysteries such as Ah Zhu and Ah Zi. The third big mystery Xuzhu's life experience is revealed through the gradual unraveling of the mystery of his sworn brother Qiao Feng, the perverted character of Ye Erniang, who is called "doing no evil", and why Xuzhu was born as a monk was only explained at this time; In this way, the structure of the whole book, which seems to be a bit scattered at first, feels that it is quite compact when I look back on it later, and it does reflect a relatively deep and rich ideological connotation, which is really the so-called "all sentient beings are evil, and no one is unjust" (4). A novel can have such a complex plot structure, which may really be an excellent creation that only Jin Yong can achieve, and it is difficult for other martial arts novelists to do.

The three are virtual and real, confusing

This is also a secret in Jin Yong's plot setting, which can receive special psychological effects.

In "Smiling Proud Jianghu", Ling Hu Chong finally achieved a happy marriage with Ren Yingying. As a demon sect, the Sun and Moon God Sect, after Ying Ying became the leader, reconciled with the Hengshan faction, Shaolin faction, and Wudang faction in the orthodox church. Such an ending, of course, is happy for everyone, but if it is told to the reader so plainly, it will be indifferent and will not leave a deep impression on the reader. Jin Yong's writing method is to fully exaggerate the tense atmosphere of "the mountain rain is about to come and the wind is full of buildings": when Ling Hu Chong refused to lead the Hengshan faction to join the Sun and Moon God Sect, Ren Xing announced in front of tens of thousands of sect members at the Huashan Conference that he would kill all the chickens and dogs on Hengshan Mountain within a month. Ling Hu Chong walked down Huashan in a stubborn and desperate mood, he felt that he would never have the opportunity to meet Ying Ying again in this life, and he knew that the time of death had come, he was outnumbered, tens of thousands of people from the Demon Sect went to Heng Mountain, and a total of one or two hundred people of the Heng Mountain Sect would of course be wiped out in an instant, even if he tried his best to kill and injure as many Demon Sect figures as possible, it would be useless. The mood is very bad, and I just sit back and wait. Later, Shaolin, Wudang and other factions took the initiative to support, brought explosives, planted mines, deployed a plan to fight a big battle, set up several lines of defense, prepared to blow up and kill anyone, and also arranged a planned retreat to preserve the path of the living forces. Everything is ready, and the reader is waiting to see how the battle will be played and what the outcome will be. At this time, news suddenly came from the Demon Sect that the preacher came to visit Ling Hu Chong, Master Fang Zheng and Chongxu Dao Chief, and a sedan chair went up to Heng Mountain. The reader wondered in his heart: I don't know what tricks the Demon Sect is playing? Until the precious gift was given, the sect leader and Ling Hu Chong met secretly, and finally sent the sedan chair down the mountain, and the mystery in everyone's hearts was still not solved. It wasn't until the stupid Six Immortals of Peach Valley leaked the conversation between Ying Ying and Ling Hu Chong, who were sitting in the sedan chair, and said that they were dead, and now Ying Ying took over as the sect leader, and the reader found out that he had fallen for Jin Yong. The more the author intensifies the tension in the foreground, the more it actually surprises the arrival of a peaceful ending, and the stronger the psychological effect it arouses among the reader. It's called striking the east and striking the west. Although the reader realizes that he has been deceived, he is also willing, relieved, and extremely happy.

In "Tianlong Babu", Duan Yu was kidnapped by Gu Mozhi and sent to Gusu, saying that he would take him to Murong Bo's grave for incineration the next day. Gu Mozhi has strong martial arts, and he has the reputation of "old friends" with the Murong family, and he has already subdued several counterattacks by Guo Yanzhi, Cui Baiquan and Duan Yu; although Ah Zhu and A Bi secretly sympathize with Duan Yu, they are not the opponent of Gu Mozhi, a strong enemy. The environment is really sinister to Duan Yu. He thought that there was no reason to survive, so he had to enjoy the last moment of his life with sadness: in the "Listening to the Rain House" facing the water on all sides, he asked Abi to play a song for him, "Even if this great monk is burned to ashes tomorrow, it will be worth his life." Unexpectedly, it turned out to be out of sight. Let's see:

Abi Yinyin stood up and said: "As long as the son is not afraid of being ugly, he should be ugly to entertain the guests." As he spoke, he walked behind the screen and came out with a yaoqin. Ah Bi sat on the brocade stool, put the Yaoqin on the table in front of him, beckoned to Duan Yu, and said with a smile: "Duan Gongzi, please come and have a look, you can know what kind of qin I am." ”

Duan Guan walked in front of her, only to see that this piano was a few feet shorter than the ordinary lyre, but it had nine strings, each of which had a different color, and muttered: "This nine-stringed piano is the first time I have seen it in my life." Azhu walked over and stretched out his finger to pluck a string, and when he held it, the sound was very loud, it turned out that this string was made of metal. Duan Yu said: "Sister, this piano ......"

As soon as I said these four words, I suddenly felt that the soles of my feet were empty, my body sank downward, and I couldn't help but scream "Ahh This change of events came very strangely, and it was extremely fast, and he hurriedly sat up, only to see that he was already in a small boat, and the two daughters of Ah Zhu and Ah Bi sat in the bow and stern of the boat, each holding a wooden oar and rowing rapidly. Turning his head, he saw that the heads of Gu Mozhi, Cui Baiquan, and Guo Yanzhi had just poked up from the water. Ah Zhu and Ah Bi only rowed a few times, and the boat was a few feet away from "Listening to the Rain". ⑤

It turned out that there was a mechanism in the "Listening to the Rain House" on the water, and when the flap was opened from the outside, the people inside fell into the water, and the sound of the piano was the signal, and the boat placed under the piano saved Duan Yu's life. The novel brings the reader an unexpected surprise at this moment. The more fully illustrated the danger ahead, the more readers worry about Duan Yu's fate, and the greater the surprise they will get later. Jin Yong's novels are good at using such fictional and real words to write from the opposite side, and receive a strong effect that surprises readers.

Fourth, the peak suddenly turned, and dared to use a dangerous pen

In order to brew and write the climax, martial arts novelists sometimes have to take risks, using some risky pen and ink that ordinary people dare not use. The dangerous pen can promote the arrival of the climax and make the climax obtain a more desirable effect, but the dangerous pen itself has a rebound effect, and if it is not used properly, it may backfire and cause a worse situation. Just like in "The Legend of the Heroes of Shooting Peng", Guo Jing, Huang Rong and the injured Hong Qigong coaxed Ouyang Feng's father and son to eat the half of the roast wild sheep that was urinated on by Hong Qigong on a desert island, if Ouyang Feng is not fooled, then he will have to do it himself.

Jin Yong's novel successfully uses the dangerous pen. Like the wedding scene between the protagonists Zhang Wuji and Zhou Zhiruo in "Heaven and Dragon Slayer", it is a dangerous pen. Zhang Wuji finally married Zhao Min; although Zhou Liruo also had a good impression of Zhang Wuji, the head of the Emei faction exterminator forced her to swear a poisonous oath in advance, and she couldn't really get along with Zhang Wuji, so she could only use his relationship to steal the dragon slayer knife and kill the golden lion king Xie Xun. If the two of them do get married, then the overall plot of the novel will be destroyed, and the story will have to develop in a different way, so this is a trick that is not easy to clean up and a little dangerous. Jin Yong still used it, he dared to arrange for Zhang Wuji and Zhou Zhiruo to hold a wedding. Then the author arranged for Zhao Min to appear, took out a handful of the imprisoned Xie Xun's hair, and finally washed the wedding, without really letting Zhou Zhiruo and Zhang Wuji get married, and readers in the know still sweated for the author. But because the wedding was arranged and the marriage was not married, the plot of the novel took a sharp turn, and the problem was quickly exposed and solved. The novel soon reaches its climax.

In "Smiling Proud Jianghu", it was arranged that the selection master entrusted Ling Hu Chong to be the head of the female nun of the Hengshan faction before his death, and it was an essay. Although this arrangement can show that Ling Hu Chong is a decent person and is unanimously trusted and loved by the Hengshan faction, it will also provoke the discussion of many people in the rivers and lakes and cause all kinds of rights and wrongs and twists and turns. Le Hou, the envoy of the Songshan faction, said: "The Hengshan faction has always been dominated by a monk nun who is in charge of the portal. Ling Hu Chong, as a man, how could he break the rules of the Hengshan Sect for hundreds of years?" (5) However, the development of the storyline must make Ling Hu Chong the head of the Hengshan faction, because if he is not the head of the faction and does not have his participation, then it will be difficult to write about the many entanglements and struggles caused by the merger of the Wuyue factions at the Songshan Conference in the future, at least not so eloquently; 。 The author knows that it is risky to write like this, but he has to write it this way. Fortunately, the author took great pains to make careful arrangements: let Linghu Chong take remedial measures for the aftermath, absorb unsuccessful monks and apprentices and other monks and laymen on Heng Mountain, and live in the "Hengshan Courtyard" where there is no valley, stipulating that they would not be allowed to come up to the Jianxing Peak where the nuns lived, and so on. After this treatment, it is generally reasonable and reasonable.

In addition, like the little dragon girl in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", she was raped by Yin Zhiping before marrying Yang Guo, which is also an essay, which ambushed her and Yang Guo's breakup for more than ten years, pushing a moving innocent story to the extreme.

Of course, the rising tide lifts all boats, and the use of the dangerous pen, in turn, requires the author to write the climax better. "Heaven and Dragon Slayer" is exactly like this. Jin Yong asked Zhang Cuishan of the Wudang Sect and Yin Susu of the Mingjiao (regarded as the Demon Sect) to unite from love, and pulled the two members of the sect who had a grudge together, which was naturally another kind of essay. Sure enough, it brings about an abrupt turn in the development of the plot and forms a climax of the novel. When the couple returned from overseas with their five-year-old child, Zhang Wuji, there was a moment of joy on Wudang Mountain. But soon, once the truth that his wife Yin Susu had injured his third senior brother Yu Daiyan was revealed, Zhang Cuishan was immediately ashamed and in pain, and had to commit suicide on the spot after confessing to his master and fellow brothers. When his wife Yin Susu saw her husband dead, she immediately drew her sword and died in the same vein. The festive atmosphere of reunion instantly became a tragic scene of corpses. This scene is extremely heroic, which not only highlights the friendship between the seven heroes of Wudang, but also shows the deep love between Zhang Yin and the couple. Without risk, the moving effect when the climax arrives is unimaginable.

In short, the use of a bit of a dangerous pen at a critical moment is an important factor in the attraction of the plot of Jin Yong's novel, and it can also be said to be a way to write after death.

Five said that it was unexpected, in people's minds

One of the biggest strengths or fundamental characteristics of Jin Yong's novels in terms of plot is that they are "unexpected" and "in people's minds", which is both bold and novel, but also reasonable. No matter how twisty and bizarre the plot of the novel is, it must conform to its own reason, so that people can be interested and not disgusted by reading. "Journey to the West" writes about the seventy-two changes of Sun Wukong, and his skills are great, but he can only change according to his own reason. He fought with Erlang God, but he couldn't fight, and turned into a temple, so that the tail became a flagpole and was erected behind the temple. This is a very successful stroke of "Journey to the West". We can't blame Wu Chengen: Since the Monkey King you wrote about is so powerful, can't he hide his tail! Because that kind of request is unreasonable. This is also true of some modernist works in the West. The reason why Kafka's novel is so shocking is not that the author imagines that someone wakes up from sleep and becomes a big beetle, but that he writes about the extremely painful, terrible, unimaginable and reasonable experiences that this person encounters after becoming a beetle: he wants to turn over, but he can't, and his parents, relatives, and friends around him are afraid to approach him and abandon him. He has suffering that he can't express, he has nowhere to confide in, to the point of despair. It is Kafka's profound writing about this painful situation that is very shocking. Therefore, the novel is not afraid of the absurd and bizarre plot, but afraid of the lack of reason.

The advantage of Jin Yong's novel is that it not only imagines and conceives many bold, bizarre, and tortuous plots, but also makes these plots more in line with the clean-up and seems to be very well-founded, so that rich imagination and as complete reason as possible can be combined. His plot is both "unexpected" and "in people's minds" when you think about it. In "Tianlong Babu", Duan Yu, who has the least heart of the king, finally became the emperor, the Xuzhu monk who has the most no desire for men and women became the extremely happy Xixia horse, Xiao Feng, who has the most hatred of the nation, "killed himself" in order to quell the Liao Wei war, and Murong Fu, who wanted to be the emperor the most, finally went crazy and could only call a few children lonely in the south. Did we anticipate this in advance? We didn't expect it at all. However, when you think about it, they all make a lot of sense. Taiyue Buqun, the head of the Huashan faction known as the "gentleman's sword" in "Laughing and Doing Jianghu", actually did so many things that hurt heaven and reason, and the hypocrite is more terrible than the real villain, as if it was very unexpected. But looking back, it's really not surprising that he has done many bad things a long time ago, but they are just relatively hidden. He had long coveted the Lin family's "Sword Spectrum to Ward Off Evil Spirits", and almost the Qingcheng faction sent people to Fuzhou at the same time. He took advantage of Ling Hu Chong's serious injury and coma to steal the sword spectrum, and in turn framed Ling Hu Chong and expelled Ling Hu Chong from the Huashan faction. The means are despicable and outrageous. In the matter of merging the Wuyue Sword Sect into one faction, he stood with Zuo Lengchan, the head of the Songshan faction, from the beginning; at first, readers thought that he was just succumbing to the pressure of Zuo Lengshan, but in fact he had greater ambitions than Zuo Lengchan, and even Dingyi Shitai and others, who opposed the merger, were assassinated by him. Therefore, Yue Buqun's true face was finally revealed, which was both shocking and convincing. Moreover, Ouyang Feng in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", in the end, everything was reversed, walking upside down with his hands, his internal qi was reversed, he was delirious, and he was extremely frightened in the face of his own shadow, shouting "Don't chase me, don't chase me!" This ending is very unique, who would have expected it! However, after reminiscing, he will feel that Ouyang Feng has fallen into such a fate, which is very reasonable, because he is too eager to be the king and dominate in the martial arts, and unscrupulously press the upside-down "Nine Yin True Scripture" practiced, and finally went to the fire demon, and soon died. Many of the plots of Jin Yong's novels are so twisty and bizarre, unexpected, and reasonable, and in people's minds.

Of course, this is not to say that Jin Yong has done it perfectly. Some of the plots in the book also show obvious flaws. For example, "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" wrote that Guo Jing went to Zhao Wangfu to steal medicine in order to heal Wang Chuyi's poisonous wounds, grabbed Steward Jian, twisted his right arm, and asked him to find Yan Kang to ask for medicine. I am afraid that the only purpose of writing this way is to give Guo Jing a chance to drink the blood of the poisonous snake that Liang Ziweng has been feeding with ginseng for a long time. Another example is "Blue Blood Sword", which wrote about the third anniversary of Yuan Chonghuan's death, and Li Zicheng sent Liu Fangliang. Tian Jianxiu traveled thousands of miles to Dongguan County, Guangdong Province to contact Yuan Chonghuan's old department. This is also a matter of inconsistency. The third anniversary of Yuan Chonghuan's martyrdom was the sixth year of Chongzhen, when Li Zicheng was still a small figure of Gao Yingxiang's subordinates (he defected to Gao Yingxiang in the fourth year of Chongzhen), how could he send Liu Fangliang and Tian Jianxiu to Guangdong to contact (and Tian and Liu had not yet joined Li Zicheng's men at that time), Li Zicheng was not promoted to be the king of Chuang until the ninth year of Chongfen, after the original king Gao Yingxiang was killed by the official army. Obviously, there are shortcomings in the novel when it comes to this kind of specific plot.

But these are, after all, individual flaws. On the whole, the plot of Jin Yong's novel is tense, lively, twisty, reasonable, open and close, and the stitches are dense, so it is extremely exciting. This is a major achievement of Jin Yong's novels, and it is also difficult for other martial arts novelists to match.
