Chapter 66: The Tower
Nearly one hundred and fifty meters in the air, Frost and Yunakin climbed all the way up, the flow of air blowing hollow echoes. Climbing along the steel ropes, they finally reached the first platform, where a ring of artillery was deployed, capable of striking directly at the shoreline.
Frost was so relieved that they were now lying next to the sealed crate, waiting for the robots and the Southern Union soldiers to walk by. He was already dead, and it was impossible for him to escape from here alive.
A Confederate soldier stopped in front of the crate, his expression indicating that he seemed to have noticed something, and approached Unakin. They are covered by optical camouflage, and it should be difficult to spot them. If the enemy is alerted, Frost will have to face the hatred of hundreds of people and a stormy barrage.
I saw that Yunakin suddenly got up and wiped the neck of the Southern Union soldier with a dagger, and the other party softened. Yunakin catches the fallen body and slowly lowers it on the back of the crate to avoid being spotted too quickly.
"I suggest you remove his communications equipment in order to know the enemy's movements in advance. Axia said, and Frost was taken aback.
"What? I thought I was out of touch with the General Command. Yunakin said.
"You're really out of touch," Axia replied, "and now I'm just suggesting to you a subroutine that's backed up in GS91 and synced to the main program once contact is restored." ”
"Well, thank you for the unnecessary explanation. ”
Yunakin removed the communicator from the corpse, listened for a moment, a hint of disdain at the corner of his mouth, and then threw it to Frost. When Frost picked it up and listened to it, he was a little confused, he had no idea what the Antarctic people were talking about.
"Does Antarctica have its own language?"
"I think it's the local language here. Axia said.
"Whatever, since you're an artificial intelligence and you can understand it, then you can instruct us to act. Unakin said to her in a commanding tone.
"I accept your offer. ”
"Then let's get started, the sooner the better. ”
Frost also thinks that the sooner they can finish this, the better, and that the best thing is to destroy everything that needs to be destroyed without anyone noticing, and get out of here safely.
Unakin set off, swaggering over the platform under the cover of optical camouflage, trying not to make a noise under his feet. Their goal is clear, and the nearest artillery is three people, and there is a carrying robot.
As the two passed, Frost was far away, and without saying a word, Unakin stabbed the observer with the telescope to death, then pulled his pistol and pulled the trigger on the gunner, killing him in the control compartment. Frost raised his gun and killed the loader who was loading the cannonball, who let go of the cannonball with both hands, staggered back two steps, and fell off the tower.
There are still enemies nearby, but they won't be able to notice this side for a while. Frost lowered his body and looked at the shells stacked in the box, wondering if he could do anything about it. Neither he nor Yunakin had the weapons to destroy the artillery at once, and a grenade might be able to detonate a cannonball and destroy the artillery, but they wouldn't have enough time to evacuate, and they would only be able to turn off a cannon and not take a tower.
Yunakin also found out about this problem and is distressed. It won't be long before the moving enemy will spot them, and they will have to come up with a countermeasure right away.
"The enemy is starting to get suspicious, is there anything wrong? Axia asked.
"We don't have explosives, so we can't scrap this cannon. ”
"I have a way, I don't know if you'd like to try it. ”
"As long as you can overturn this tower," Yunakin said coldly, "you can make me kill myself." Just tell us how to do it, don't talk nonsense about the rest. ”
"Okay, first we need a handling robot......"
Yunakin threw a look at Frost and waved his head. His meaning was obvious, and Frost stepped forward to catch the robot as it was leaving, and pressed the manual button to stop it. Following Ixia's instructions, he clumsily disassembled a portion of the case, pulled the access device out of the GS91, and plugged it into a port on the robot's assembly.
Two teams of Southlink soldiers arrived at either end of the platform, wires connected to Frost's device and the bulky robot, making it impossible for him to leave. Frost felt like a leashed dog, stupid.
"Damn it......" Yunakin scolded in a low voice, "how long are you going to go?"
"Three points...... No, just give me two minutes. ”
"It's too late. He said, holding the grenade launcher hanging from under the rifle in his left hand, "Frost, turn on the optical camouflage to conceal it, and I'll get their attention." ”
"Go to the top to converge, Master Chief Unakin. Axia said.
Once the plan was arranged, Yunakin stood up from under the gun, raised the muzzle of the gun and fired a grenade to the right. A parabola perfectly reached the middle of the three Southern Union soldiers, blooming in a moment of bloom. The bombed Southern Union soldiers were killed, and one of them also fell off the Sydney Tower, which immediately attracted the attention of the Southern Union squad on the left.
Sparks continued to burst from the artillery, and Yunakin risked being hit and opened fire on the enemy, shouting as he did so. After killing two enemy soldiers, he turned and ran up the stairs around the tower, changing magazines and firing.
The decoy tactic was successful, but the Southern Union soldiers throughout the stronghold were hunting them down. I don't know what Axia did, but after finishing it, Frost climbed the emergency ladder of the outer pillar while the optical camouflage was still in effect.
It was said that the ladder was actually just a handle welded to the surface, and the angle between the place where Frost climbed and the level was less than 90 degrees, and not long after the optical camouflage failed, he was discovered. Bullets whizzed around him, some hitting metal surfaces, sparks and the sound of dangerous collisions that made Frost suffocate.
He felt a pain in his left shoulder, and his arm almost lost strength, but fortunately he endured it. He knew he had been shot, and when GS91 found out that his body was damaged, he first paralyzed the pain to keep him awake before he began to regenerate amazingly. Frost lowered his head to avoid being shot in the head, as long as he didn't fall or get shot, he wouldn't be fine.
Thankfully, the optical camouflage propped him up to the top of the second floor, and the rest of the dangerous road was relatively short, and he finally reached the top floor in a respectable amount of time.
Master Unakin had been cornered to the edge of the platform, the bunker in front of him was riddled with bullet holes, and the assault rifle in his hand was constantly firing bullets. Even if the light from the accelerated rails of the collapsed crystals under the shell could not be brighter, and the barrels between the tracks were reddish and overheated, he still did not stop firing.
Frost's fingers barely let go of the trigger, and he leaned towards the captain by feeling, firing at least as soon as the crosshair was on the master. There were enemies on all sides, and if they were exposed a little, they would have to be shot five or six times, and their own blood and sweat soaked through their uniforms and blended with the filth of the previous battle.
In the heat of battle, Frost noticed that any of the robots he passed by would stop their work and go to retrieve the open ammo boxes. He moved to Yunakin's side, and behind him was the end road, and in front of him were dozens or hundreds of Southern Union soldiers who desperately wanted their lives.
Unfortunately, he ran out of bullets from his rifle and had to return fire with a UAP automatic pistol.
"Behold, my friend!" said Unakin, laughing, "look at their hateful faces, their expressions!
No sooner had Frost hit an enemy than he caught a glimpse of a carrier robot dumping boxes of shells.
The whole tower shuddered and groaned, and the steel plate beneath its feet suddenly fell and began to tilt.
"Don't be afraid, Frost, run down, and jump out!"
Yunakin shouted as he rushed down first. Frost did as he was told, and for him it was just death.
To his surprise, an AAX-08 tactical fighter flew single-handedly from the left, slowly slowing down and hovering in mid-air. They ran to the edge of the collapsed platform, leaped forward, and landed firmly on the plane. After catching them, the fighter jet spewed out a tail flame and moved away from the tower.
"Another beautiful victory, you say? ”
"Yes, sir. It's an honor to fight alongside you. ”
"That's what I'm going to say," Yunakin laughed, "to our hero, Frost!"
