Chapter XVII. Bequest

"Tools to defeat death?" Silver repeated.

"Yes, Gellert believes that death can be defeated if three Deathly Hallows are found. Bathilda said.

"Deathly Hallows, what is that?" Harry asked.

"I think you're all familiar with The Legend of the Three Brothers, right?"

Harry said, "Not familiar. ”

But both Ron and Silver said, "Familiar. ”

Bathilda nodded, "Well, Potter, I forgot you grew up in a Muggle family, but it's a short story I can tell." ”

Once upon a time, three brothers were on a secluded path in the middle of nowhere, and it was nearly dusk.

As they walked, they came to a river, the water was too deep to wade through, and it was too dangerous to swim through. However, the three brothers are proficient in magic, and with a wave of their wands, a bridge appears on the unpredictable water. As they reached the middle of the bridge, a hooded figure blocked their way.

The Grim Reaper spoke to them. The Grim Reaper was furious, and he lost three new sacrifices - as travelers usually drown in the river. But the Grim Reaper is cunning - he pretends to congratulate the three brothers on their magic, saying that they have escaped Death by being clever and that they can each receive a reward.

The Boss was a warlike man, and he wanted the most powerful wand in the world: a wand that would always help people win in a duel, a wand that a wizard who had conquered Death deserved!

The second is an arrogant man who decides to continue humiliating the Grim Reaper, wanting the ability to resurrect the dead. The Grim Reaper picked up a stone from the shore and gave it to the second child, telling him that the stone had the ability to bring the dead back to life.

Then the Grim Reaper asks the youngest child what he wants. The third is the most humble and intelligent one, and he doesn't believe in death. So he asked for something that would get him out of there without being followed by death. Death reluctantly gave him his cloak of invisibility.

Then the Grim Reaper took sides and let the three brothers continue on their way, and they talked about the wonderful experience they had just had, and appreciated the gift of death, and walked on.

Later, the three brothers broke up and headed towards their respective destinations.

The boss walked for more than a week to a remote mountain village and got into an argument with a wizard. Naturally, he used the "Elder Wand" made of elderwood as a weapon, and he would undoubtedly win the duel. After his opponent fell to the ground and died, he continued on his way, entering a tavern, boasting loudly about the invincibility of the powerful wand he had received from the Grim Reaper.

That night, after the Boss was drunk, another wizard crept up to his bedside and stole his wand and slit his throat.

In this way, the Grim Reaper took the boss's life.

At the same time, the second child returned to the house where he lived alone, took out the stone that could bring the dead back to life, and turned it in his hand three times. To his surprise, the girl he wanted to marry but unfortunately died early immediately appeared in front of him.

But she was sad and cold, and there seemed to be a veil between them. Although she has returned to the world, she does not really belong here, and she is miserable. Eventually, the dick is tormented by a hopeless desire and goes crazy and commits suicide in order to be with her for real.

In this way, the Grim Reaper took the life of the second child.

However, the Grim Reaper has been looking for the third child for many years, but he has never been able to find him. The third child lived until he was very old, and then finally took off the invisibility cloak and handed it to his son, and then greeted death like an old friend, and happily left the world with him as an equal.

"My mother used to tell me this story when I was a child, and I never understood the moral of the story. Ron said.

"Maybe it doesn't mean anything. "The Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility are the legendary Deathly Hallows, and Gellert believes that if you have all three, you can defeat death." ”

"But that's just a legend. Ron said.

"No, it's not just a legend. Bathilda said earnestly, "The Deathly Hallows is real. Gellert revealed his thoughts to me because I knew something about the Deathly Hallows. ”

"What?"

"The existence of the Deathly Hallows is not a secret, and many shamans know that there are three Deathly Hallows that have survived. The Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak should have fallen into the hands of some wizarding families, so their reputation is not obvious. But the Elder Wand is known for his bloody inheritance, and you've studied the history of magic, so you've heard of the fact that the monster Egbert got his wand after he slain the demon Emerik? Have you heard that Godlot died in his cellar after his son Heriward took it? Have you heard that the terrible Lohias killed Barnabas de Vriel and snatched the wand? The bloody trail of the Elder Wand splattered all over the history of magic. ”

"And where is the Elder Wand now?" Silver asked.

"A few decades ago, the German wand maker Grigovich announced that the Elder Wand was in his hand, but this was not confirmed. ”

"But why would Grindelwald think that three Deathly Hallows weapons can defeat death?" said Silver, thoughtfully.

"Well, I think Dumbledore would know a little bit better. Bathilda smiled, "He found me a year ago and deposited something with me, saying he wanted to pass it on to you when you came to me. ”

Bathilda pulled out half of a piece of parchment smeared with strange letters and symbols in the box containing the letters exchanged between Grindelwald and Dumbledore.

Harry's eyes widened, and he couldn't help but clench the deerskin pocket Hagrid had given him. (To be continued......)
