Chapter 500: The longest road in the world is the road of the heart
He is said to have been one of the delegates to the Paris Conference when the mechanisms of the Marshall Plan were established in 1947.
He was Sweden's chief delegate to the 1948 Conference on European Economic Cooperation in Paris. For several years he served as Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Conference on Economic Cooperation in Europe. In 1950 he headed the Swedish delegation to UNISCAN, an organisation established to promote economic cooperation between the United Kingdom and the Nordic countries.
He also served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Economic Research Institute, which was chaired by the Government (1937-1948).
From 1951 to 1952 he was Deputy Head of the Swedish Delegation to the Sixth Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly and from 1952 to 1953 he was Acting Head of the Swedish Delegation to the Seventh Session of the General Assembly.
Although Mr. Hammarskjöld served in the cabinet of the Social Democratic Party, he never joined any political party and regarded himself as a political independent. On 20 December 1954, he was elected a member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
He was elected to succeed his father's previous seat in the Academy of Sciences.
After the resignation of UN Secretary-General Lie in 1953, the UN Security Council decided to nominate Hammarskjöld to succeed him, a decision that came as a surprise to Hammarskjöld.
On 31 March, 11 countries of the Security Council elected Hammarskjöld with 10 votes, and at the UN General Assembly from 7 to 10 April, Hammarskjöld was elected with a majority of 57 votes (out of 60 countries).
He was re-elected in 1957 by unanimous vote.
During his tenure as Secretary-General, Mr. Hammarskjöld served the United Nations in many roles in its efforts to prevent war and to fulfil other purposes of the Charter.
In the Middle East, these responsibilities include: ongoing diplomatic activity, support for the Armistice Agreement between Israel and Arab States, and the promotion of a better and more peaceful situation in the region;
The formation of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) in 1956 and its subsequent management, the clearing of the Suez Canal in 1957 and the contribution to the peaceful settlement of the dispute over the Suez Canal;
In 1958, the United Nations Observer Group in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was formed and administered, and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General was established in Jordan.
Following his visit to Beijing from 30 December 1954 to 13 January 1955, the People's Republic of China released 15 American pilots detained while serving under the United Nations Command in Korea.
Mr. Hammarskjöld has also travelled to many countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America and the Middle East, either on special assignments or to gain a better understanding of the officials of Member States and issues in various fields.
One of those trips, which took place from 18 December 1959 to 31 January 1960, saw the Secretary-General visit 21 countries and territories in Africa — a trip that he later described as "a purely professional trip for the purpose of research and understanding".
During the trip, he said he had "almost once dissected every important political insight in Africa today".
Later in 1960, when the President of the Republic of the Congo, Joseph Kassa-vubu, and the Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, sent a telegram on 12 July requesting the "urgent dispatch" of the United Nations Military Assistance Mission to the Congo, the Secretary-General addressed the Security Council at a night meeting on 13 July, requesting the Council to act "extremely quickly" on this request.
Following the action of the Security Council, the United Nations force in the Congo was established, and the Secretary-General himself travelled to the Congo on several occasions as a result of United Nations operations on the ground.
The first two missions to the Congo were in July and August 1960. Then, in January of the following year, the Secretary-General made another mission to the Federation of South Africa to address the country's ethnic issues, with a stopover in the Congo.
The fourth mission to Congo began on 12 September and was suspended due to martyrdom in a plane crash.
In other areas, Mr. Hammarskjöld was responsible for organizing the First and Second United Nations International Conferences on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, held in Geneva in 1955 and 1958, and for the planning of the United Nations Conference on the Application of Science and Technology for the Lesser Developed Regions, to be held in 1962.
On September 18, 1961, he was killed in a plane crash en route to Katanga.
The Swedish government held a state funeral for him.
For his great contribution to the affairs of the United Nations, the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize one month after his death.
On 6 October 1998, at the United Nations commemoration of the 50th anniversary of peacekeeping operations, the United Nations awarded Hammarskjöld the Order of Hammarskjöld in recognition of the sacrifices made in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Really, a city that can hide a famous church.
And a famous church can hide a famous ...... Uh, the quote – The longest journey is the journey inards......
And a famous quote can lead to the story of a celebrity......
However, the story has to be told to someone with a heart to be interesting, and it is obvious that Ye Chao is such a caring person.
Ye Chao is not an ordinary person, but he also has people he admires, such as the one above, who said the words that resonated deeply in his heart - the longest journey is the inner journey......
There is nothing wrong with that......
However, it's time for Ye Chao to go...... The whole church is magnificent and solemn...... However, Ye Chao's heart is no longer here, and the entire church seems to be the only one sentence left for him......
"The longest road in the world is the road of the heart, and the longest journey in the world is the journey of the heart......
Ye Chao is measuring the world with his feet, and the others are also measuring his heart.
His whereabouts fluctuated, sometimes south, sometimes north, sometimes east, sometimes west...... He doesn't care where he is going if he doesn't have a clear destination. He only cares, he still has ...... to go
"Let your feet go wherever you go, and one spirit will always follow you...... Hehe...... "As he walked, Ye Chao's mind suddenly jumped in time and space, and he thought of another person, and another word......
That sentence was said by Wang Chongyang.
Not long ago, he was still thinking about the words of a certain Swedish celebrity, and now, he is thinking of the words of the ancient Chinese Taoist priest Wang Chongyang......
This should be a sentence about spiritual practice......
Taoist priests generally talk about spiritual practice.
However, the Secretary-General of Sweden is talking about the journey of life, one is born, the other is accessed to the WTO, but well, everyone is human. It's just that their professions are different......
"Sometimes the four are drunk, and ask Qingtian who am I?"
Ye Chao walked, rode in a car, had no fixed goal, and didn't know how many places he had walked, let alone how many rivers and bridges he had passed......
When you want to go, you go, when you want to sleep, you sleep, if you want to ride, you take the car...... He is walking the path of his feet, and he is walking the path of his heart......
